They should simply stop prioritizing the eyecandy. I know other people have different preferences but personally I don't really care about the graphics anymore. We have reached certain point where the graphics have become meaningless. At least to me.

I'm not saying it's meaningless literally because I can't go back to GP4 and RF1 graphics anymore but I think the turning point in sim racing graphics was around when AC1 and RF2 came... like 10 years ago. They look "good enough".

Prioritizing graphics and creating such resource heavy sims for some minor graphics improvements doesn't seem to be very good strategy to me. I don't think sim racers are so graphics oriented as some old sims like RBR and GP4 still have a huge fanbase. They still play GTR2 and Live For Speed too.

People went crazy when GT7 came and it was (supposedly) SO much better looking that GT Sport. Well yeah, I didn't see much difference and if there was any I didn't even care. But maybe I'm in the minority.

If someone asked me which looks the best AC, ACC, LMU, EVO... I couldn't even answer. They all look good to me.

Edit: Who remembers in the old days when you actually had GRAPHICS SLIDERS where you could decrease the details and have better smoother gameplay in the lower end PC's. Why did they remove that option from most new games? Makes ZERO sense to me.
I do agree with you to a certain extent. If developers had stuck with the visual standards from 10 years ago (Alike vanilla AC?), no one would be craving more eye-candy graphics today. Back then, people were content with what was put available. But nowadays, it’s all about visuals. The flashier, the better or so it seems.

It’s the same with physical appearance in our current society. People feel pressured to look good, even if that means undergoing chemical or surgical “enhancements” (that often end up doing more harm than good...) Still, as long as someone looks “good,” life somehow seems easier or more rewarding.

Of course, we need a certain level of visual quality in racing games like Assetto Corsa for immersion. But when you're flying down the Le Mans straight at 200 mph, you're not exactly admiring every pixel, are you? Let’s not forget the importance of smooth gameplay. That’s what truly makes the experience.

Must admit; I bought a 4K monitor to have AC look good, but I also do edit RAW photograpghs, Photos MUST look good by default (Static picture).

It's funny though, our generations are looking at graphics, what looks amazing, and our PCs suffer for it and gameplay is poor because of it, and we struggle for FPS, unless we have deep pockets.

And there's our kids, playing Minecraft, Terreria and Roblox... They don't give a stuff about graphics, they want gameplay and multiplayer. The world is changing.

Good analogy... why do we need more and more all the time? What has actually improved? Not much.

It's almost like new cars and their constantly increasing HP numbers. when I was a kid it was a huge deal when the new most powerful 911 Turbo, M5 or AMG 63 came. Now nobody cares anymore. An electric KIA can probably out-accelerate many 90's supercars. Top speed and acceleration numbers have lost their appeal.

Ferrari F355 and Porsche 964/993 aren't that fast by today's standards but they're analog, desriable, hand built and look amazing. That's why the cost more than new and will always be desirable and collectible. Original E30 M3 and MB 190 Cosworth are slow by today's standards. But they're amazing cars. Sure a skyscraper elevator is faster than a roller coaster. But which one gives you bigger thrill?

Most new cars are disposabe, soulless garbage. Who wants to have anything to do with a EQS, Taycan or full electric G-Wagon when the warranty is over (not that I could even afford them but generally speaking).

Same with computers. We constantly need more CPU, SDD and new graphics cards. Even 8 Gig GeoForce is nothing... you need 32 Gigs now. Have the games actually improved that much since 2014? I don't think so. There was a huge leap 10 years ago and since then all we have got is probably extra 10% nicer graphics. And the price to pay is ridiculously increased hardware requirements.

My comment is as follows.

I also changed my hardware about two and a half years ago, within my means, but to this day I can't play Assetto Corsa Competizione, EA WRC, or LMU (last year I could only put two categories on the grid) (satisfactorily) without minor crashes).

Today I can put all three from 2024 or both from 2025. Rfactor 2 (is perfect for me), both graphically and in terms of performance, as is Automobilista 2. In Assetto Corsa (only sometimes), depending on certain cars/tracks (number and specific cars/modders...)...minimal lag.

I can also comment on "RaceRoom," which is excellent, when I simulate the "24 Hours of Nürburgring" with over 60 cars (excellent graphics and performance) for my machine's standards (I don't usually set anything to "ultra").

Another observation: on my old hardware, Forza Motorsport 5 or 7 (I don't have this game installed on my current one) was surprisingly smooth (maybe because it's optimized for consoles, I'm not sure), but the game's "fluidity" was unusual for me.

As mentioned earlier, I believe that "graphically"...developers are trying to "recreate" reality in a virtual world and are, to a certain extent, ruining the gameplay.
Speaking for myself, not everyone has the financial capacity ($$$) to own a "NASA" standard computer with advanced RAM, graphics cards, and processor features.

Unfortunately, a lot of things are discarded very quickly.

It took a lot of work to get my GTX 2060 (about 2 and a half years ago)...but for now, that's how I'll have to "make do"...lol

Just curious, since I reached 7000 hours in AC yesterday, how many hours do the other AC maniacs in this thread have clocked so far?
I have more time spent SIM racing in AC that in all my other titles put together.(ACC second with 1654 hours).
I anticipate the balance of 2025 and 2026 to be more or less solely dedicated to AC as in my VR setup it is better in most aspect important to me or at least as good as anything else out there.

It's probably just your graphics card. I also bought a Geoforce about 5 years ago and it was good for gaming with 4 Gigs of GPU back then.

But that's not enough anymore. Not even for AC and SOL. Sure it runs but not well. You need at least 8 GB. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's not that much about the processor anymore (that's what I've been told)... it's all about the graphics card.

wouldn't say no reason. but the internet is the internet. too bad. liked his mods.
Hope he deals with it :)

Guys I’m wondering if anyone having the same issue.
Since a few months (not a specific moment) my game doesn’t run smooth in practise mod. Frames are fine (90/115) but the overall game stutters a lot. Once I change to trackday, race or weekend mode (as long as there’re other cars) the game runs super smooth. Even with a 30+ car grid it’s all fine, frames are 75 to 95 but super smooth.
I have literally no idea what could cause this but it makes single training impossible..

Well he said the AC community is the worst community after the “woke” community in his rant, so… not particular sad for a bigot. He can let the door hit him on the way out.

But the AC community does have some pretty bad apples, but so does all of free, open source modding. It’s not unique to this game.

Garry’s Mod, Skyrim, etc. All have communities with similar levels of theft, Patreon shenanigans etc.

quote from Tom (Tomsim)

"Tom — 17:45
From the last 2 years, I just made everything people wanted, uploaded mods asked, gave help, more than we should, I just asked for one thing : Support. During 2 years, the only thing I could read is : oh, do this, oh do that. We release a mod, « oh can you make another one ? »
This community is worse than any community existing in that world. Trust me the Woke community is more peaceful.
I lost my time explaining and helping anyone who asked. Some private mods, some private tracks…
First time with Max it was only a « let them talk », so we decided to put a little support section. I know 99% of people on ac are stealing every mod possible , but I could not imagine we never received at least 1 ****ing € for helping us. We never asked, we just waited for… and that’s what I was thinking about.

And that’s not the worse. It’s about basterds talking of us on different servers, and then coming and making their lives as if we were blind

I feel painful for my teammates, but I can’t have full working nights to satisfy such a selfish community"

Not nice to hear that.

But I think all the sharing communites are like this. Some of my F1 seasons on Youtube have over 3000 downloads,.videos have over 10K views and the best videos have 100+ likes. Some much more amazing track mod videos on Youtube have way less. People don't even bother to give a thumbs up. That's way too much to ask for. Some even give thumbs down after downloading the freebies. I did every single ad banner for the 2004 tracks. Worked my ass off for weeks, collected all skins together to make a full 2004 grid (finally)... then created the period correct HUDs.... Modded the cars and tested them excessively that they definitely work on every track and pit at the correct times. It didn't get much attention at all. It's not just something people are interested in... they only want 2025 stuff (which, imho is not even possible to emulate on AC that well).

But it doesn't bother me the slightest. The main motivation should always be that YOU yourself enjoy doing it and also enjoy playing it. I wanted that season because I wanted to play it. And I have. But then a few like minded people come and love to play that season too. That's the reward. Creating niche stuff like that will never appeal to the masses. 2004 is so far away. Many people in the sim community are barely born in 2004. Just think about the 70's stuff you made... that even more niche stuff.

And I'm not even a proper modder. I can't build tracks and cars from the scratch. I can only do some simple mods, change banners and actually create a playable season. The really cool thing is that there are like minded people who like classic F1 season simulation. I love to chat and share race results and lap times with them so I'm not complaining... at least they get downloaded and a few people play them too. Just imagine how many hundreds of great mods (bult cars and tracks) went completely unnoticed. Way better stuff that I could ever do. We have too much good stuff on AC. People are spoiled.

I doubt anything like AC will ever come again. EVO won't be like this... those companies are way too greedy and there's no way to make money from this kind of platform. It has just created this Patreon "subculture" for "better mods" which doesn't help Kunos at all. Think it this way: The 70's stuff you have created is simulation racing history in many ways. Just like Caesars Palace 1982 and Dallas 1984 tracks... or Dijon 1979.... those would never, ever come to any commercial sim because only a fraction of people are interested (or even know they exist). But to me (as a F1 history nutcase) they're amazing... although the tracks themselves aren't that polished. But we can drive those circuits which is WILD. They will never be noticed even by AC community that much... but they matter to ME and I really, genuinely enjoy driving them... and "reliving" that amazing era of racing.

I'd say don't do any work for other people. Don't even think how many likes or compliments you get. Do the mods only because YOU want them. That's what I do. I want to play the stuff I create... and actually drive them too... so I never get disappointed even if the reception isn't that great. :)

Sorry if I go off topic but I think that sometimes it is also right to reflect on what surrounds us to open the mind a little and really think about what really matters, I would also like to discuss it with this beautiful forum but I don't think it's the right section, however... I have seen and played the whole world of video games from Arkanoid until today, I come from an iconic Italian region where around me a few kilometers away there were the factories of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, so for a boy from my area the passion for engines was almost natural, from here putting the two things together I have always played everything that had 2 or 4 wheels, but believe me, the amazement in seeing Grand Prix 2 by Jeoff Crammond or the first Gran Turismo, or the fun with the first iconic games that could be modded, I have not felt it anymore and it is not a question of age because the passion is always the same, it is just that now we complain about everything losing sight of what should ultimately be the purpose of these, let's call them, "simulations", I always hear fierce criticism even if maybe To people who put in the time and effort to create something.
Mods that should be a source of pride and sharing have become a source of profit, and I'm not talking about the ones who truly deserve to be rewarded, which are very few, but about everything that's stolen, done without love, in the pursuit of easy money, "likes," and fame.
I'm an incurable old romantic, or maybe times have just changed and it's normal now, but I can't get over it.

I'd like to know how you see this world these days, even the younger ones who just started out.

Sorry for the off-topic 🙏

Bit of a shoutout to the creators of the VIR mod track - Darren Blythe, Rigel, LilSki and Arthur666.

I was working on a 99% accurate-to-life TV camera set for VIR in August.

And when you get the camera angles 99% right, it's usually indeed almost perfection - for laser-scanned tracks at least, because all the elevations and cambers look exactly like real-life, because, well, the track mesh itself is centimeter/millimeter-accurate, right?

Well, with non-laser-scanned / non-LiDAR tracks, there's usually something or other amiss (hell, even a poor(er) LiDAR track can reveal their inaccuracies when set against a dead accurate camera.)

HOWEVER, this VIR mod track - NON-laser-scanned, as much as I know - showed the same levels of accuracy when set against the IRL cameras, as the laser-scanned Nordschleife, Spa and Road America did in my earlier works!

It's just further proof of how astonishingly good job these guys have done on this track!

(Plug for the trailer - it's Patreon, but the trailer is for all members and followers, and you are able to check the similarity of the track yourself against the real-life race. N.B. some of the cameras are from other years, and can be placed a few meters away.)

Did anyone come up with a cure for cars crashing in pit lane and continually trying get back to their pit, only to crash again, continually doing donuts in the pits or stuck against pit wall?
I had 42 opponents at Road America and the one car during qualifying was crashing in the pits the entire time. Never turned a lap.
Then the race grid line up has him on pole, where he then proceeds to side swipe the pit wall all the way to first turn. Restarted the session a couple of times, with no difference.
It seems like every race or session at least one car will continually "get stuck and return to the pits."

Nice near-miss for the Rexy there! xD

Many people have reported this but there is no sensible solution. Some people say it's the new CSP versions but it's not. It also happens on 0.1.79 and it never happened before. For me it happened on ACU Interlagos and MTS Fuji. Tracks that worked for YEARS without any issues whatsoever.

But when you restart many times enough it doesn't happen again. Twilight Zone stuff for sure.

But to put him on pole is really wacked!

There's a possibility that there's some setting that was accidentally (or automatically) checked that wasn't before? I know I had some similar issue last year and the solution was a CSP > General Patch Settings thing that I know I hadn't enabled but it became enabled somehow. After disabling it things went back to normal. It was either a 'Physics Experiments' or 'Optimizations' setting.

To be clear it was not this specific issue, but it was something similar with AI doing dumb things.

Answering several in this post.

1- Yes, my Nvidia graphics card (6GB) and my RAM (16GB)Certainly before changing my processor, intending to upgrade (video card + RAM) first.
2- Regarding your comment about mods, I feel almost the same way. I make small adaptations or small conversions to cars, initially for my own fun (to recreate as much as possible), races or various historical championships (from the last century...).

I also like modern cars (both formulas, GT3, prototypes)...but sometimes it's a "flood" of nearly identical models from "various modders".....
I believe there's still room (for those more experienced in creations/modifications) for classic car models still waiting to be created.Regarding tracks (I don't even risk it, as I don't have enough capacity).

Regarding your simulations/championships/HUDs...they're excellent.

I haven't even had time to download or enjoy many of them yet...I'm still recovering from the loss of some of my Assetto content.

Only after almost 5 months (I managed to redo and restart) my "Mille Miglie 1955" simulation.

Finally, regarding the question of commenting (words of encouragement or thanks), speaking for myself, I always try to be as grateful as possible to everyone who contributes in some way here on the forum or in other private groups (what I download regularly).I still have a small debt: I made a short tutorial (conversion, car adaptation in 3dsimed...) with the little I learned (trial and error), but I'm always learning new things.

I believe that's how the community works.

but about everything that's stolen, done without love, in the pursuit of easy money, "likes," and fame.
I'm an incurable old romantic, or maybe times have just changed and it's normal now, but I can't get over it.

I'd like to know how you see this world these days, even the younger ones who just started out.

Sorry for the off-topic 🙏
Well we see it with eyes full of disgust, but there's a fine line between being a victim of it and doing something about it. And thankfully there are still a lot of people who are doing something about it.

If we check the F1 side, we have

2015->2018 ACFL doing mods but the 3d model comes from roblox

2019->2020 ACFL vs ACF1 the battle between pay mod vs free mod
In between simdream came in and saw this battle, and thought "what If I do ACF1 job of converting cars using whatever physics i find but put a price tag like ACFL"
So they spammed mods from all eras of F1 like that

2021->2022 Simdream reached for the sun and got burned. Stopped doing conversions. We need a successor. Modding becomes more accessible after people realized that modding wasn't an "elite" thing seeing what simdream made.

What has come out of it?

The same thing. Free vs Pay.

Spmod decided to be the spiritual successor of simdream with his Patreon, taking physics left and sound engine right without asking anyone's permission. While Deploy stayed on the free side for the love of the game and produce a better modern formula mods that can look RSS formula hybrid 2025 in the eyes.

It'll be a perpetual "Pay vs Free" where people come and go but there will always be people that comes for the love of $ and people irritated by it who will start doing mods for the love of the game.

As for Tom leaving and his arguments, i do understand him a lot. Thankfully I avoided that hassle of thinking that way especially in a community like Assetto Corsa. For example, I helped a lot of people with modding going as far as to write a simple modding guide to cover obscure knowledge that was hard for newbies to find. This allowed the rise of many part time discord modders, like bubba who did a 2014 season, forbys who did a 2009 season and other classic cars, deploy also uses some knowledge from that guide. But I don't bother expecting anything in return. I don't really care they do afterwards and if things get the respect it deserve, the thing I'm getting in return are F1 mods, which is my goal ultimately since I'm a lazy person I don't want to do every car I want to drive there's too many. Better offload that to other people to do the work for you, just need to give them a little push.

I also don't get a penny from the mods I'm doing. I tried putting a donation link for my 2008 mod in gtplanet despite 20k download no one gave me a penny. So I had to tell my wife and kids that we would drink water and eat ice cubes for the month. Shame on you gtplanet !

I did the same experiment on overtake.gg with the mak corp mod, to my surprise someone actually gave a donation (overtake.gg >>>>>> gtplanet) the bad news is that I never expected someone to send money so the throw away PayPal account was locked after seeing money for the first time in 5 years and asked for my identity if I want to reclaim those 5$, i don't do money laundering, but trading my privacy for 5$ isn't worth it (well the truth lies in the fact that i don't want to pay taxes, so I don't want to have the IRS spying on me) so those 5$ are staying where they are.

We are now homeless, and eating water to survive because none of you wanted to give me a penny, but my wife always tell me that it's okay, because all the money in the world doesn't make happiness, having its name next to mak corp name does. Well she's right, i might not have a Bugatti to catch girls on the street, but playing it off like a random arch Linux user and telling every girl i meet "btw did you know I made an F1 mod with mak corp name in it" makes them all go sign a mariage certificate on the double. That's how I got my wife.
