I have never been a "pushy" or "reminding" or so kinda guy in forums but I do think it is kinda worth mentioning today that the car has been DL 125 times - but still no reaction about my suggestion for making a foxtail. Dunno what people might think of that fact though. Bit disappointing and or at least remarkable some may say...👍

It seems that DPWerkz had someone in 2021 that could bring a foxtail to the Manta but till this day it isn’t
but I guess you have seen those postings when searching for the Manta

Till today it seems that only rFactor had the Manta with the foxtail, sadly I don’t know how to bring it (the foxtail) in AC
can provide the files if needed

Lacks the foxtail and lumirank stuff that it has irl. But the car is around. Don't remember who made it though.

Well, it has been no surprise how broken the CSP Previews seem to be on the latest preview. Recently it seems it only throws an error when a car has a certain amount of skins.

It seems to work out great when a car has fewer skins, fails 100% of the time when a car has a lot of them. If I were to go one by one, I'd wager I could do it with no errors. I didn't work out a "limit" of skins, but it sure seems to be that way.

Does this information help in any way to think of a possible workaround?

I don't have this problem with the newest 0.3.0p302. It has occured on earlier preview versions, though.

How many skins are you talking about? 100? For me, 28 skins on a VRC touring car yields no problems.

think most of us haven´t tried the newest 0.3.0-preview302 yet.........Everyone was cautious before updating.
 
Of course I'm aware that is "just a foxtail" - and maybe just eyecandy but(t) isn't it excactly the so iconic thing on that famous car!? And when I see that even good ol" RF had it, even a wobbling one (wow!) - for me being just an amateur it should actually be a piece de gateau for real pro's to make that!? Well - maybe this is a new "boost" for thus subject. Meese at least would be very happy about it. Hopefully for many.

Can be added trough extensions folder and the wobbling can be also done trough config stuff. So just need someone to provide with an foxtail .kn5 and it can be easily done.

FSR - First Studio Racing I think.... although ACTK got his hands on it also......

Base mod is actually from Kronos, However their model is based on the Forza & Dirt Rally models. FSR just remove some of the rally parts in the interior and added the wing.
 
Is anyone else still experiencing really terrible quality track shadows with the latest CSP?
It seems like Smart Shadows has been broken for quite some time.
No matter what settings I change, track shadows (eg cast along the track surface or on vertical walls from an overhead grandstand roof) go noticeably jagged, low-res and blurry a short distance in front of the car. And even when I'm not moving, shadows are constantly rippling and floating down the track as if they're on a moving conveyor belt.
Ilja says he can't replicate it, but for me it's been like this for months, and the latest build is no different.
Adjusting time progression in the Drive screen and in Pure planner makes no difference, so it's not related to accelerated time.
Is anyone managing to get sharply-defined track shadows, and if so, can you please share your smart shadow settings (and any tips you might have)?
As things stand they're a huge ugly distraction.

Hi Masscot, shadows have always been a nightmare for me. After many weeks of experimentation and trial and error, I've found the right compromise. Below are my settings.
P.S. One thing that helped me improve them was changing the anti-aliasing in the Nvidia Profile Inspector to Spars Grid Supersampling, even though it takes up a lot of resources.

I don't know if it's the same problem you're experiencing, but sometimes I see something similar, even on interior surfaces of some cars, like the interior door panels; it's as if in vertical surfaces appear diagonal narrow stripes. I suspect the direction of the sunlight has something to do with it, but i don't know for sure...

For me (I suppose my tolerance level for these little AC "things" is high) they aren't excessively bothersome, although sometimes they are quite noticeable.

Something like this on the rear wing of the car? This is not present with 0.2.xx previews. With latest preview shadows are racing on the mid distance elements, you close in and they are not visible, look at the rear wing.

Yeah shadows still crap - This is what I have for settings (2048x2048 shadow rez in AC Video):

(Some options unhidden from config file but dont think they make a difference)

Gives sharp cockpit shadows, and blurrier outside with still some flicker but pushes distance pop-in much further away.

They should probably be wider, but i'm happy to have gotten this far. The new kerb meshes I made don't exactly look good, but they are a close match to the new style from what I can tell in videos. The closest one turned out ok, but the one farther away where the car is looks weird for some reason when you see it in real time and up close. I tried everything to fix it, but can't seem to figure it out. So it will have to stay as is for the time being.

Hey folks, I've been looking everywhere, but i could not find the Drivecenter Arena track near Skelleftea, Sweden anywhere, only a drift track but not the one that is used for Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. Any ideas where i might find one? Or any takers?

I've come to the conclusion that Smart Shadows is either completely broken in 0.3.X builds of CSP, or that some tickbox or setting elsewhere is in conflict with them.

I'm really grateful for what CSP has brought to AC, but I'm also rapidly losing patience with its haphazard and unintelligible nature, especially the way it's pretty much guaranteed that fundamental elements that worked perfectly for years will randomly break between builds, often because of some new feature that nobody ever asked for anyway.
Hopefully AC Evo will free us from this cycle of dependancy on something that has undoubtedly improved AC but always carried the frustration of never really working as intended, and with the ever-dangled carrot that the next build might.. just.. be.. the.. one.. that.. fixes.. everything... when we know deep down it won't. It's hard to maintain enthusiasm for AC when this perpetual loop slowly wears you down.

Actually it is just what the shadows in AC are. CSP just tries to add something or set the cascades automatic, but there is no change of the internal shadow engine.

And the AC system is kind of a self balancing thing. If you gain quality and reolution on one cascade, you reduce it for the others.
And so there are always magic split sets and something but it will never fit for all cases. But it is just what the AC shadows are, a very effective way to create well shadows somehow.

The original shadows even have a limitation in the distance, so you had a per se moving shadow in the distance.

You said everything now. I can't say for the others, but my AC1 hasn't evolved. These days I was reviewing a video of mine from years ago (below) with a race against AI where everything was better.



My graphs today are inferior to this, I have more stutter, more tearing, the AI is practically useless, I can't finish a race without an anomalous behavior. Complicated.

But it would be really interesting where the stutter and tearing comes from. You can just switch off CSP and do the same race again and see if its equal to your video. Such things can have a lot of reasons...

But CSP Smart Shadows has helped with shadows in the past. Splits could be set so that shadows remained sharp at reasonable viewing distances, only losing definition when they were far enough away to be practically invisible anyway. And they never used to ripple and migrate like they do now, even when the vehicle is stopped and time progression is set to zero. Sometimes it's like driving through a shallow stream.
My original point was, shadows were improved at some point in the past, but have now reverted to the current ugly mess. That's not progress. It's regression. And it's sadly how CSP seems to be compiled these days, with some new fixes or new features but at the expense of other things getting broken again, almost as if old code from several broken builds ago is getting recycled. It is frustrating, but keeps us hooked I guess.

I find the shadows "calmer" when I disable "custom shadow matrices". Still some jagged shadows, but they tend to stay more still and not creep all over the place.
