Connection speed can be pretty critical at times.
So much better but so much more challenging! Ive noticed that the players on WaW just aren't that good and just about everyone i run into on COD4 are just veterans at it. Makes for some annoying games sometimes.
Not lately. On Xbox Live, I don't know if we've been just lucky, but I don't see the abundance of good players anymore. I see way more noobs(first round to lower prestiges). On PSN, it was worse, until it got even more worse after the PS3 price drop.

I don't mind though. It gives me an illusion that my game is actually improving. :D

Just when you think you've seen it all!

I was playing HCTDM last night on Downpour. I spawned at the top of the map and headed down towards the grain silos on the right hand side of the map. I threw a 'nade to catch the guy coming through the hole in the wall, but got a hail of bullets in return. So, I hid behind a bush and threw a smoke grenade to mask my movements, and that is when it happened!

I got a random 'smoke' kill! I don't know what the chances of pulling off a blind direct impact with a smoke grenade are, but I'm sure that the odds are very low!

With the imminent arrival of MW2, I just have to say that this game, has been for me, one of the greatest of all-time, seconded only by Gran Turismo. There has not been a game this generation that has held my attention for as long as this game has, and it is testament to the genius of IW that the game has such a large following. Besides that, COD4 Is one of the few games, that I have never found a single fault with, and I'm usually a pretty hard man to please!

What a brilliant game! Bring on the 2!

Ahhh, the smoke 'nade kill, I've had a few in my time. Chances are they were on last stand or on very low health (being HC).

Exactly. Frag grenade probably put him in last stand. Same thing happened to me on Bloc, once. After 1-on-1 firefight, I thought this guy took cover behind a blown up car. I pitched a stun grenade before going in, then "ting!". One of my most memorable kills.

I second the greatness of this game. After a year or two, it officially passed Gran Turismo 3 as my all-time favorite game. Of course, if GT3 had (near)flawless online like CoD4, then who knows. :sly: But seriously, I will miss this game very much. Props to Infinity Ward for sure. 👍

Now if I can only get my k/d up to 1.68 before the midnight launch.......

Anyone still playing this? I decided to have a go tonight since I'm very close to ninth prestige and in only my second game I beat my highest killstreak score, it's now at 27.

The rooms are still filled nearly instantly and the games are as mad as usual, I've found I'm checking my corners more since playing MW2 which is probably why I was scoring very well compared to others, usually topping each match I played.

I've definately missed this game and now it's double points still I think I'm going to have to press on to the gold cross. I closed the points gap from lvl55 to prestige by half in only 1 HQ game, I didn't even complete any challenges.

You know, I think it was a double experience right before MW2 came out, and somebody in that forum was suggesting they should just leave it in place.

I REALLY miss the old maps. I don't feel like buying crappy map packs from Activision ever again, but for maps like Overgrown, Countdown, Crossfire, etc., I'd pay $5 per map without hesitation. Probably much more, just to experience the new weapons, new perks & killstreak rewards on my favorite maps of all-time. 👍

If I remember right they kept double XP forever because I didn't have MW2 right on release day and played some ol' COD4 and most kills came up as +20. (Playing TDM)

I'm in a similar position to you with CoD4, close enough to the gold cross for it to be worthwhile me to keep playing it until i get it.

I'd got to a point where i was happy with my 'game' and was almost always in the top 3 scorers. I felt i'd finally become good at it :dunce:

After the latest MW2 update, i've found games much less frustrating, and can now leave it for a while without feeling like i'll get totally left behind. So i think i might swap discs around and play CoD4 for a bit 👍

Double post, i know

Fancied a spot of CoD4 last night. I Knew i'd just prestiged when i last played so expected to be level 1 with a new badge (red dot). Oddly i wasn't, i was still level 55 with the previous badge (silver propellor). No problem i thought, i'll pop into Barracks and opt for Prestige. Job done. Went into my first game and everything looked fine - new badge, showing level 1 and default weapons. Had a good game, ranked up to level 5 by the end of it. All's good at this stage. Began my second game, everything is jerking, all players are showing 1 single red bar connection, game quits after about a minute of play. I join 2 more games, this time with a good connection but each time the host quits within the first minute. I quit out of the lobby to start afresh and check how i'm doing in the challenges etc. This where the weird starts. I'm still showing level 5, but my prestige badge has reverted to the older propellor one :odd: Not only that, but my challenges are now back at the same stage as they were when i got the option to prestige and my custom weapons slots are all the same too - yet with the titles all 'custom weapon 1' etc, rather than the names i'd given them! :odd: :odd:

It's nice to have all my levelled up and perked weapons available early on, but, i've lost a whole prestige level in the process and have very few challenges available to gain me the XP needed to advance through to the next prestige level :irked:

On the plus side i was playing really well, enjoying how CoD4 generally feels to play compared to MW2. May just stick with it for a while 👍

Excellent Choice Sir!

I think COD4 is so much more relaxed than MW2, each game I play isn't necessarily easier than MW2 but they are so much more fun in the process. I suppose it's because I've played COD4 so much I know how people move around the maps and how they change styles depending on game modes, I find I can score very high in matches without trying much.

I have found that people don't have a camp party in HC compared to MW2:indiff:

You've hit the nail on the head there. Apart from the frustration of losing a whole prestige level due to some odd glitch, i just felt really relaxed playing CoD4. Knowing where players were likely to be, with the knowledge of where they are unlikely to be too, means it gives you a bit of breathing space to plan your next moves without the fear that you are seconds away from being knifed in the back.

It's not as if the guys playing CoD4 are a bunch of noobs either, i'm getting at least 2 or 3 gold cross 55's in every game, so i'm still getting owned plenty, but at the same time my k/d is positive in every game and i'm mostly in the top 3 or 4 overall score-wise by the end of a game.

I have found that people don't have a camp party in HC compared to MW2:indiff:

Hopefully that will change in MW2 the more people are getting familiar with it. Although i do feel that the style of the maps and the increase in airbourne killstreak rewards do favour a camping style of play more than they did on CoD4. :indiff:

I love this game so much!

I find it so funny how predicatable opponents are. I managed a 56-8 while laughing through most of the game. Loving the AK-47, M4, MP5 and AK-47u at the moment, everyone seems to drop as soon as I hit them, easy kills.

MP5 and the M4 were on my good list, but I hated the AK. I used the AKU on my "ninja" class. Silencer and all perks set up for silence, worked well. It and the MP5 worked well.

I find the AK-47 is great if you hunt down groups of people, the amount of times I've been in a 3 vs.1 situation and gunned them all down within a second is unreal. The recoil is so in time with the rate of fire as well, I realised before I kept over-correcting the recoil and dying but now I just aim for the chest and go.

I was a big M16A4 feller, that gun with stopping power equaled you going down with one trigger pull.

I'm getting more enjoyment every time I play this game. I had two very nice domination matches one after the other. The first was on Countdown and I joined about 50 points in, ended up scoring 65-9, called in 4 choppers and had another ready when the match ended.
The second game took place on downpour and I started near A, a quick 5 kill streak and I bombed the entire opposing team at C. Using the helicopter trick I waited until I died to call in my chopper. Ended the game on a 54-4 with 3 choppers called, would of been more if I didn't have a teammate using similar tactics, unfortunately for him though he died too often which limited his kills to just over 30.

Well the PS3 version doesn't show how many people are online at any given time, which the XBOX360 version does but every room I enter in any game mode is filled up as quick as ever, which is nearly instantly.

Wow, thats strange it doesn't show how many players. I guess since the 360 is more like a pc its on that version, who knows. At the lowest I seen around 200K online at once.

Got upto level 45 over the weekend. Really struggling to get XP now. Leveled up all the guns, except headshots on some, and have completed most of the challenges with the exception of the ones that rely on luck more than skill.

I can either try and get the headshot XP using weapons that only work on certain maps - and probably score much lower on kills in the process. Or i can just duke it out trying to get as many kills (and therefore points) as possible using my old faithful, M16A with ACOC.

Haha.. MW2 has already been released in Japan too, but I'm still playing MW because I was disappointed with its translation. :(
It's all in Japanese so it has spoiled the mood, and also it's a little wrong. In the mission that the terrorists kill civilians in the airport.

I think I did read about the mistranslation in the Japanese version of MW2. It might've been from the wikipedia.

Japanese/English translation can be laughable sometimes. Especially in films.

Yes, it's featured on Wikipedia, at the page of "Controversies surrounding Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2". I've seen it. And this topic seems to have been picked up by several other sites that introduce about games...

And yeah. I think It's decided by how the game staffs make it. It will be quite good if they make it so nicely. :p

Revival!

At 19:35 on Tuesday 30th March 2010 I entered 10th Prestige. YEAHH!!!

Had an epic game to get me the points too, 4 choppers and 6 airstrikes.

I still maintain that this is a better game than Modern Warfare 2. It's more direct and less geared towards campers, for starters.

👍 Got there too last night (although by rights after having to do level 8 Prestige twice, i should be 11th Prestige now).

Feels good to finally have the little gold cross. I'm quite looking forward to completing all the challenges this time round.

Yeah it does! I started playing with the shotguns as soon as possible as I figure they are probably one of the easiest to get the Gold Camo for, then I'll do the LMG's and the assults, probably won't bother with SMG or Sniper as I hate the guns you unlock gold for.

The shotguns are always something i've never bothered with before. With them generally being poor at anything other than short range. But i have recently started experimented with a 'rushing' class, usually an SMG, and quite enjoyed the change of playing style. I ran out of ammo the other day so picked up the first dropped weapon i came across, which happened to be a W1200. The one shot kills you can get with that really compliment a rushing style of play 👍
