Demo Derby can't come soon enough. Most of the playlist races, because I try to race clean, I end up being the pinball, and I can't jus wait it out because I'm only at level 12, nearly everyone else is 20 or higher.

I'm feeling like I'm not enjoying Grid 2 Demo Derby as much as I should be... maybe it's because I never got Race Driver: Grid, but Derby just seems out of place in a game that's marketed as being vaguely serious.

Also would have been nice to have one or two cars from DiRT Showdown, I miss my Lafayette and Holbrook. :(

Cool Wall's done, so let me get into it for a bit....

(later)

OK, while it suffers from GRID 2s physics issues, it's still as much fun as before. Great stress relief (if you can find a room not using other DLC you may not have bought)

Is demo derby available in custom rooms only? I haven't come across it in any of the 4 preset playlists.

On another note, I've finally bought and tuned all the cars in the game :D Got up to level 53 and earned $10 million in the process lol. Some of the weaker Tier 4 cars are surprisingly good once you fully tune them (SLR, One-77, Zenvo). The SLS and R8 GT3 on the other hand are a disappointment. Agera, Veyron and Huayra are still the top dogs obviously, but you can keep up using the weaker cars if you push really hard. Nothing like beating a pack of Veyrons and smashing the fastest lap in an oddball car  For Tier 3 cars I've found swapping out engine upgrades for handling has a much better effect, especially for Z06 and Alfa 8C. Good enough to obliterate the Caterham in wide open tracks.

I wish the upgrade system is in single player. It'd give some much needed replay value. As it is, I think I'll be taking a break from this game until next DLC is released. Might try to get up to level 99, we'll see...

You can access the DLC by going into the Playstation Store in the game.

BTW, is it safe to get the other DLC packs now?

I got the DLC mate, it's just that I haven't come across a derby event in the preset 4 playlists. The DLC implementation in this game is absolutely abysmal. CM should've forced a compulsory update like every other game. I bet it would've avoided the freezing issues as well.

The latest update fixed the freezing for me. A minority still get freezes, but I think it's due to other issues besides DLC. So yes, I'd say it's 90% safe to get the DLC.

The playlists don't have derby events, because not everyone have the derby DLC downloaded.
Just go to custom event, filter demolition derby game mode, and there should be enough lobbies going on for DD. I have played derby alot, it's great fun, you never know what happens.

I'm gonna say this again, Overtake is possibly the biggest, most infuriating piece of crap I have had the misfortune of bearing witness to in MY video game history. Did they design it specifically to send us into madness, or was the incessant swearing from the testers music to their ears?

I found it annoying at times, but faceoff events were the ones I really dreaded. In seson 4 and 5, no matter how fast you drive, the AI will blast past at som point, probably clipping you, forcing you to use a flashback.
Then the last few corners are a matter of blocking like hell.
Come to think of it, I didnt really enjoy many of the point to point events.

Really hate the Overtake events myself. Only ones I actually don't have a headache over are the recent two that took place on a track and ironically enough, both times I was able to do those perfectly with no contact.

I like overtake events. Out of the non-race modes it's the most fun IMO. The trucks can be a bit stupid at times, but just treat them like the zombie AI of GT and you'll be fine  They follow the racing line most of the time so you have to do the opposite of the out-in-out you're used to (in-out-in). It's counterintuitive at times but you need that mindset if you want to succeed. Also, if you're not 100% sure you can make that gap, slow down. It's better to keep the multiplier combo rather than risking a pass and having to build it up again. Slow and steady wins rather than fast and aggressive.

The biggest problem is that the AI swerve at intermittent points that from what I can tell aren't in the programming. There are the times when their steering is basically flickering, which I can deal with, to them lurching around for no particular reason, much more irritating but still workable at least. The key issue is the notion of impacts, in that I have lost combos due to said truck lurching out on a strait(Yas for instance)and I merely brush them, leaving no damage at all, yet have kept combos when I rear-end the damned things. THIS may actually be the worse of the two.

And I think I'm finally done with playing Grid 2 (at least Career mode at the moment). Why? Because it just freezes up everytime I try to load up a race.

Edit: Video up

It can be a bit unpredictable, but the unpredictableness is consistent from lap to lap. So be extra cautious on the 1st lap and take note where they swerve, so you can anticipate it on subsequent laps and modify your line. Once you get a sense of their programming I find them quite predictable (though still annoying).

I feel for you mate. Have you tried playing SP without connecting to PSN? That did the trick when my game froze.

I tried doing it without logging into PSN (which is the video you see) and it did the exact same thing.

Well you're out of luck then. If you're still early in the game I'd suggest deleting your save and starting again. Even if they patched the freezing in a future patch, a shoddy save is likely to freeze again, so you're better off taking the safe route 👍

I'm just gonna stay away from career mode. Part wants to play online but I really do not want to race those morons knowing I not only have no tuned cars (therefore I'm screwed right off the bat) AND I'll get taken out.

Do a couple of races and you'll be able to upgrade Tier 1 since those are pretty cheap. Tier 2 comes pretty quickly too (or you can just upgrade a T1 to T2). Tier 3 & 4 takes a while to build up the levels, but by the time you reach it you'll have plenty of cash saved up to buy the best cars. If you have pre-order DLCs they can come in handy too. Since your level is low, you start near the front so you have a better chance of winning. Just take a wide line in first corner to avoid the pileup and you'll be fine. Within a few races you'll understand how to avoid the rammers ;) Believe me, once you figure out online you'll never go back playing SP.

The latest update (1.04) has added trophies for the next (and probably last) batch of DLCs. There's Spa and Bathurst for tracks. And Zonda Revolucion and Koenigsegg CCGT for cars. Absolutely can't wait :D

LOL. Unless CM has learned from their mistakes, I doubt many people will have the DLC, so you don't have to worry ;)

I have a feeling the Zonda will finally dethrone the Agera as the fastest car. Bathurst will be good practice for GT6.
