It will all be fun and games until someone gets a DR reset from DR 95000

For those wondering why it's only Porsche vs. Corvette. Back in the late 00's the two makers had an intense rivalry within the GT2 class, and the peak of that was this insane battle at Laguna Seca for the race finish. Unsure why PD went for the Gr.4 cars though as this was Gr.3 equivalent racing.

Yeah the Gr. 3 cars (not just the Porsche and Chevy) feel more closely matched than their Gr. 4 brethren, so I'm also not sure why they went with Gr. 3, especially since the Cayman should dominate at a tight, slow track like this.

Hopefully the lack of braking zones and extra width means fewer negative SR incidents...maybe...
I certainly hope so, because this sounds like a ton of fun.
Hmm ok let's take a look over the Manufacturers races for Stage 3...

Sponsored by the Corvette gang, and any other car that isn't MR, specifically an NSX.

couple of interesting nation combos that I might join.
unless they exclusively improve grip on m6 rear axle (or on all turbo fr gr3 cars)
I might skip all remaining gr3 races because that car is doomed to oblivion.

now after alsace off to rbr against OP ffs for the second time ffs :/

This message brought you by the M6 Gang.

Good thing I ran my manufacturer car for that Nations event... we're ready for this one. In all seriousness fastest track I've ever been on was Spa few weeks back with Gr3, ever since then PD has just been screwing with me. Gr4 Spa, Spa in the rain and Spa Gr2? Now we get Spa in the rain again... wth?

Disconnected sitting in 5th place after 5 laps. Brilliant!!! Can't wait for the DR to be taken from me again. Every time i get near to finally becoming a DR A i get disconnects. I've resigned myself to be a DR B forever. :grumpy:

Haha just like clockwork...Disconnected after qualifying 7th. Its fate! The gods don't want me as an A. Thought i'd finally get it today after 218 days!!

PD would issue a 1 second penalty for that I expect ......

To the corvette :lol::lol: :lol:

About to do the Manu race. Anyone got an idea of the best strategy? I’m thinking going softs for half the race then changing to some more softs, and short shifting to save fuel and not have to top up.

Edit: Door number 1. Great!

Genuinely at a loss as to what just happened.

Started 9th, 7 tenths off pole but 2 tenths off 3rd. Had decided pre-race I was 1-stopping since the GT-R is terrible on fuel and tyres.

First time through the right hander cutting on to the infield section a Mazda up ahead goes deep and nudges the Mercedes on 3rd onto the grass. He skids back across track and the 86 in front of me smacks into him. 86 gets 1 second.

Lap 2 the Megane Trophy in front of me goes wide in the second last corner and I go up to 6th. At the first corner on lap 3 he takes a dive and nudges me off. The Merc who spun on lap 1 bumped into the back of the Renault as he was recovering. During the race I thought a massive revenge punt happened here but I'm not sure watching the replay. He does brake late and he does turn towards the Renault, but I'm not sure. Either way, turn 2 the Renault vanishes into the wall and I follow the Merc for a lap before his penalty gets served.

The next few laps there's a train behind me, including an 86 who went from something like 11th to 3rd by no-stopping. I'm holding everyone up at this point. On lap 6 the Jaguar behind me goes off at turn 2 on his own and I get in some unimpeded running for a few laps. 4th and 5th are tripping over each other and getting track limits penalties. One of them is the Mazda, so I know he'll be falling back eventually. I get slipstream at the start of lap 9, and I'm now not sure about when to pit. I'd planned on lap 10, but if I can get some slip for a few laps and avoid the apparent wreckfest behind me, I'd rather do that.

Fortunately the Mazda pits ahead of me on lap 11, so I follow him in. I change for new softs and fuel, and I see the Mazda switch from medium to hards. I go round two laps and see other cars in the pits with mediums. At this point I'm panicking. I've mis-read or mis-remembered the tyre requirements and I'm going to get a time penalty. While still trying to drive I turn my monitor on, go online and try to navigate Gran Turismo's dreadful website. Nope. Apparently I'm right. I move up more places and end up in 6th by lap 15, with that Megane in front of me and two Spaniards in Mercedes behind me.

I had this Megane in front of me in the second half of qualifying. He was a dick. Weaving all over the place to try and break slipstream, apparently unaware he was ruining his own lap. After he dived me at turn 1 earlier I wasn't expecting much as he was going backwards by lap 17, where I caught up to him. Second last corner I'm on the outside and he doesn't turn in until I have to try and knock me off. One of the Mercs behind me goes through and gets the same treatment on the straight. I go up the inside for turn 1 and then leave the three of them to if behind me. The Renault also pitted for fuel on lap 18, if you can believe that.

I ended up 5th. When I crossed the line I was still disbelieving that I wasn't going to get a penalty, so this result was nothing short of miraculous, honestly.

Ooooh I feel your pain. Just waiting for my 1,300k DR hit to register! Waste of time practicing for this.

edit: ok make that more than 1,300k and also a hit on SR as I obviously disconnected in a dirty manner

I understand the formula but this one caught me off guard. I also beat guys who had higher DR than me (and the listed B there is a glitch in the site: he’s at almost 40k). The lobby seemed to range from just under 40k to 32k, with me at just over 34k and 18th. It’s a weird one and doesn’t seem to pass the smell test of the formula. I suppose it could be validated but it’s the oddest result I’ve ever had. Do you get a hit if you miss the 60 sec cutoff behind the leader? I didn’t think so.

You know this wouldn't be an issue if you succumbed to the dark side (that the side where all of us DR1 driver's race). 12th is a good finish - especially in that race. I have never seen so many A/S in my life. They do exist - they do exist . . . but not on the dark side. Good race.

Second attempt wasn't much better, held up in qualifying, to many random track limits penalties and a pair of clowns at the end to finish 14th. Leaving it there, seems to be a combo where I'm lacking pace.

Edit: looking forward to Saturdays combinations especially the nation's in the 80's F1 car, now to decide on a livery to choose.

Well that wasn’t terrible I suppose. I got door number 1 which is the last thing you want to see, and qualified 15th! I had a terrible session and couldn’t do a good lap, and when I did I was blocked by a slow driver.

I had a decent race all things considered. I started on softs and pit on lap 11 to change for another set and a splash of fuel. Predictably I collected about 4 track limits penalties, but managed to climb my way up to 8th. I got 109 points, which is better than yesterday, but still not great. I felt like the Merc wasn’t great at this track and it felt really heavy around the high speed corners. At least I didn’t crash!

Still, I got 400 DR points and kept my SR at 99 despite the penalties. I expected a lot worse after my disaster of a qualifying session. I might have another go later after the Everton game.

had a second attempt (with no audis), finished 3rd after pitting from 2nd place
1st and 2nd didnt go to pit stops and I had to overtake people...

That's exactly what I fear. I hope whatever iteration of the penalty system is in the game on the 28th doesn't have BS penalties for bumpdrafting, or it will ruin a race that has potential to be very fun.

Y'all could always reset your account, lol. PD seems to be harsh as heck after level 40-50+ slightest tap gets a penalty. Go back to lower levels and PD let's you get away with some bumps.

I like it when there are races at Laguna Seca, it gives me an extra day to have a run at whatever the other race is!

I was kind of looking forward to this, though I got put in the lowest lobby I've seen for months with 248pts for the winner and plenty of 'A' ranked drivers (I'm only low A+ but not seen an A rank in an FIA lobby for ages).

Qualifying was always going to be important but with the lack of long straights and short track a slipstream seemed far less so. And after putting in a few very clean laps I managed to whittle my initial time down by a few hundredths to a 51.499 which was good enough for 5th on the grid, with the top two places taken by a Brit in a Scirocco and a Spaniard in a Peugeot.

Started off and almost immediately gained a place as the BMW in 4th had an untidy T1 and I pulled alongside, taking the inside into T2. The race started to settle a little and with most saving their fuel there was no flying around (near the front anyway). The Scirocco on pole had started to make a break and the RCZ that started in 2nd was coming under pressure from a Lexus that eventually got past. I play the long game here fully expecting the FF cars to either pit or get much slower as the race progresses and leave me in a battle with the Lexus. The Lexus pitted on L10 though! That was unexpected. I immediately closed up on the RCZ and was beginning to plan my attack when he picked up a penalty for cutting T3/T4 so I didn't take any silly risks and stayed close waiting for the gift of the penalty the following lap - which he decided to serve on the racing line despite me being right behind him, bit annoying but it was still a comfortable pass and with my superior tyre condition he quickly fell back to the edge of the slipstream range and into the clutches of a charging Corvette.

The Scirocco ahead had opened up a 5s gap at this point and was clearly no stopping so my attention turned to keeping the Corvette behind. A couple of slightly scrappy laps allowed him to close in going into the final lap but I'd saved enough fuel to be able to rev out. He was a little close out of T1, I half defended on the way into T2 but he went up the inside (I take a very wide line around T2), we were side by side going into T3 but with the inside line and full revs I was able to pull ahead to take the proper line through T4 then held on around the final two turns to come home 2nd in a total time of 18:37 for 237 points and finally a decent result in Manufacturers. (And I just realised I didn't move the BB to the rear so slightly happier with the run now!)

The most 'exciting' part of my race though was without doubt when my wheel decided to press a few buttons (as it has done for a couple of weeks). At least it didn't send me back to the PS home screen but this is never the best thing to happen!!

On to Nurburgring (tempted to steal a tune and try the F1500 though!)

I think you mean improve grip on M6 front axle (or on everything else) :)

Removing the stupid SR deductions for bump-drafting was the only good change to the penalty system that PD has made in the last year.

no, not the front.
rear, it doesnt have grip up to 150kmh
specially on hard compound, its undriveable (its like drift car)

I participated in some practice lobbies for RBR Short and the majority of the people
managed to run on one set of Softs and no refuel for the whole race!

The M4 starts with fuel for 18 laps in FM1 settings... I tried everything from short shifting to coasting and there is no way I can take that car without refueling... am I missing something here?

Thanks... I'm not complaining and I was proud enough of that completely clean race, without so much as a gravel stone to pick out of the wheel wells or a scratch on the Porsche. It was a solid lobby and anything top-10 was my target, along with positive DR. I thought I was on track in 12th, having completed my pit stops at the halfway mark, but when I noticed no one stopped to throw H's on for the last lap, I realized I was stuck defending that 12th position for one more lap and settling for that. But like you said... in a lobby with all A/S (and S/S) drivers, to hold my own and avoid problems, successful enough! I do wonder if I cost myself a position or two by sticking with the 919... but I love how it drives and it's so confidence-inspiring, that I stuck with it for that race after it served me well at Spa earlier.

I blame @Mistah_MCA for his strategy video showing it to be the best option ... I think people would otherwise have defaulted to a pit stop and splash and go! So now we all have to make it work! But he convinced me it's the way to go, even if my lap times were off the mark compared to his... hoping for a decent result in the Cayman GT4 tonight.

----

I'm really bummed I will miss the F-1500 race at St Croix this weekend though! I would love to race that one, and enjoy those cars in a solid A-ranked lobby. I have a question: can you run a 'qualifying' setup and then change it before the race, to a more comfortable one? I assume so... but just wondering. And I suppose throwing it out there: if so, that would be the only way to go, because I'd want a solid race car to put up next to people in traffic, but that setup probably would have you starting in the back for sure. (note: was prompted to think about this in listening to Stefan Johansson on F1 Beyond the Grid podcast... as he described the typical setup of early/mid-80's F1 cars and how they relied strongly on race setups because it was typical to overtake a lot in that era). 💡

Track limits can go 🤬 themselves. I dragged the Slophy to 12th on the grid (0.3s ahead of the other Slophy, and 0.6s off pole) only to get punted around at the start of lap 3, and my choice of Mediums at the start was just the crappy cherry on top. I tried fuel-saving, but there was no point trying to strategise my way to the top because Slophy gonna Slophy and RBR track limits gonna...you get the gist. I crawled home 18th and lost all of my DR gains from last night's win. :banghead:

Corvette vs. Porsche at Laguna? As much as I love the Corvette, I just don't see why anyone wouldn't choose the Porsche for this track.

I'm really looking forward to Yamagiwa in the Manufacturer's Series. Literally my favorite road course, with nice, sticky tires.

Being an oval racing fan, N800 at Route X sounds fun as well. It'll be like NASCAR restrictor plate racing, only way faster. Practice your bump-drafting now, folks!

Gr. B should be a good race for me as well, since I surprisingly got my first road course win in FIA with those cars.

Also, we finally get to race one of the higher Redbull cars!

The rest of the schedule is "meh" and I'm disappointed there's no more Gr. 1, so I guess I won't be actually scoring any points in that category...
I'm picking the Vette, because I prefer the V8 sound over the Cayman Flat-6. I like the shape of the C7 too. Sits real nice in replays.

Besides, my last LS race worked out well. Fun times.

I was really confused for a moment, when I saw that... I thought: "didn't we JUST race at Spa in the rain in Gr3?! But then I realized, it was in the Nations Cup, and while I chose my Manufacturer's Series Porsche, it was open to other cars. I wonder how this race will unfold with only 2x tire wear, a shorter race, and same fuel burn multiplier, compared to that race? (and people confined to their chosen manufacturers' cars instead of the preferred NSX's) It will be a sprint, I guess, with no pit stops.

And whether the time/rain conditions will be the same? I can't recall if there is a 'more wet' scenario at Spa, than the 'changing' conditions at daybreak that served as the scene for the Nations race.
