FITT Race Car Tuner Challenge

Street cars get the most attention among the tuning garages on GT Planet, yet there are a large number of race car leagues within our own online forums. It is time for the great tuning garages here on GTP to trade in the fingerless driving gloves and the Piloti driving shoes for a full on fire resistant racing suit, racing helmet, fire proof shoes and gloves and heck even fire proof underwear if you have it in your closet.

For this challenge we will run two individual groups; 500PP and 625PP. Tuners are allowed to enter both PP levels. We will run only one round of testing and the scores will be weighted mostly to lap time (10 total available points) and driver’s choice bonus (1 total available bonus point).

Tracks: I want to try something different with this tuner challenge. I have posted a poll for track selection. The two highest ranked tracks within a couple of days of starting will be used.

Scoring:
I will score this event on two elements; average lap time and average driver’s choice bonus points. This scoring system is the same that we used in my FITT Rally vs. Street Cars and NEWDRIVER2’s FITT 2000 Challenge.

Fastest lap calculations –A maximum of 10 points can be earned from lap times. The tune with the fastest average lap time across all testers will earn 10 points. All other tunes will earn their score based upon how close their average lap time is to the fastest tune. For example, if the fastest tune earned the average lap time of 1:21.688 and the 2nd fastest tune equates to 1:21.832, the 2nd place tune receives 9.988 points (121.688 divided by 121.832 *10 = 9.988). Another example, if the fastest tune earned the average lap time of 1:21.688 and the slowest tune equates to 1:27.271, the slowest tune receives 9.56 points (121.688 divided by 127.271*10 = 9.56). This method of scoring rewards tunes for being very close to the front and will keep the lap time portion of the competition very close.

Driver’s choice bonus: Each tester will score each tune on the scale listed below. Driver’s choice scores will then be averaged across all testers. The maximum number of DC bonus points that can be earned is one point. These are race cars so lap times should account for most of the total score. Please choose one of these three ratings for each tune:

Outstanding – With this tune I will be spending a considerable amount of time with my team… in the winner’s circle (1 bonus point).
Driveable – With my superior driving talents I should be able to win some/lose some with this tune (1/2 a bonus point).
Holy Crap – If I were forced to race this car I would fear for my life. I could crash and burst into flames at any moment (no bonus).

Car Sharing:
All Tuners are responsible for placing their car on share as written up in their tune, or making arrangements with one of the F.I.T.T. car hosts to place it on share. Friend requests are the responsibility of the tuners.

Testers:
Volunteers - Anyone can volunteer as a test driver. For all volunteer test drivers (non-tuners), you will receive any car under one million credits, five paints and five museum cars.

Test Settings - Offline in A-Spec Free Run, TCS off, Skid Force Recovery off, ASM off, ABS 1, tire wear/fuel consumption off, grip reduction real, mechanical damage none.

Results - Test Drivers results should all be placed in one post here with notifications posted when that results are updated. All Test Drivers must submit the fastest lap time for each car/track combination and a Drivers Choice ranking for all cars in each group they test.

Prizes and Awards:
All volunteer testers to receive any car under one million credits, five paints and five museum cars.
1st Place Tune- Any car worth up to 1,000,000 credits
2nd Place Tune- Any car worth up to 750,000 credits
3rd Place Tune - Any car worth up to 500,000 credits
4th Place Tune – Any car worth up to 250,000 credits
5th Place Tune – Any car worth up to 100,000 credits
Fastest time posted by tester - Any car worth up to 1,000,000 credits

Deadlines:
Track Selection Voting ends Thursday, December 6.

Tuner Entry are open from now until Sunday, December 9th, (Midnight, wherever you live). Tuners who have confirmed entry must post their tune either within this thread or in their own garages with a direct link to the tune posted here before this deadline.

Test Drivers Results must be posted no later than Sunday, December 23, (Midnight, wherever you live).

Note: Extensions or exceptions to the above listed deadlines may be issued at the event sponsors discretion. However, it is up to the participants that they do everything possible to meet the listed deadlines as extensions or exceptions will only be granted under extenuating circumstances. Assigning deadlines at the end of a weekend seems very reasonable.

This is a Federation of International Tuners and Test-Drivers sanctioned event.
F.I.T.T. rules will be used for this event. Any event specific rules and all deadlines are listed above.

I'm pretty game for this. But:

Eligible 500PP Cars:
Mazda RX-8 Concept LM Race Car
Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car
Nissan FALKEN☆GT-R Race Car '04
Nissan OPTION Stream Z ’04
Subaru Impreza Super Touring Car

625PP Racing Class
Choose one race car from the list below and tune to 650PP

Eligible 625PP Cars:
Gillet Vertigo Race Car '04
Panos Esperante GTR-1 '98

a) was that bit with 625/650 a typo?

b) aren't the cars listed a little too high level for the PP? And there's a couple that'll be a bit low level, too.

Yes. 625PP is the final setting.

Yes. 625PP is the final setting.

And what about point b? I agree that some of the placements seem a bit odd, like the FTO STC and Falken GT-R, since they're definitely more towards the 600PP side rather than 500PP.

Also, just for the sake of clarity, was the reason for leaving the Honda NSX-R LM Race Car out just because you forgot about it? :P

And by the way, I'm up for this as well.

Hi Hami 👍
I want to sign up as a tuner and I want to reserve place for this car 500PP

Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car ;)

Thank you Sir

And by the way, I'm up for this as well.

I did not want any 4wd cars in the 625PP group, so I bumped the two mentioned cars down.

I saw the Honda NSX-R more like a JGTC car, but I could add it if I was mistaken.

Ah, I see.

Uhh, well, to be honest, I've not driven my one in a while, so I'm not sure if it was like the JGTC car or not.

Well, for now, put me down for the Ford GT LM Race car. Spec I.

I'm in for both classes as tuner and test driver. Are we going to need to reserve a car from the list or everyone gets to pick from all of them. Also the track choice poll is brilliant.

All cars are open for everyone. I am open to adding cars that I missed, removing cars that we all feel will be too dominant a d moving cars between groups if people feel that they fit better.

@krenkme The Honda Fit cant quite make it to 500pp

Does it matter that much in 625PP level though? Not like I think they can get that high anyway.

But I should be entering both classes, and I'm planning on taking the Opera S2000 for 500PP and the GT by Citroen Race Car for 625PP. The Opera is one of my favourites in the game so I'm willing to tune it. I have a tune for the Citroen that is literally at 631PP (and very well acclaimed from what I've seen) so I can just downtune the power on that a bit and I'm gold with that.

Just wanted to keep the top class clean with rear drive cars.

My car choices are picked purely on looks.

No Zonda R?
No Amuse R1?
No SGT race cars?
No NASCAR's?

And at least some missing good tuner cars, which I thought were all coming to the party? :(

I'm in like Flynn for the 500PP Group, car has already been decided and pretty much built. Wasn't the car I thought end up with, has no right being as fast as it is, but hey. 625PP scares me a little, if I can keep one pointing in a straight line, I might have a go. If you don't hear from me in a while, I'll be stuck in the armco...

Amuse R1 doesn't have any numbers on the side. It is a tuner car, not a race car. Zonda R, same issue. Not a race car. The Zonda LM Race Car is on the list. Someone mentioned a tuner car challenge coming up so I dropped them from this. Race cars only.

SGT? Super GT? Were these used in the JGTC FITT Challenge? If so, I didn't want to duplicate them here. If now, let me know which ones should be in.

NASCAR - I think I want a challenge using real race cars. :)

I will not test every cars before choosing one, i know it will be a lap time shootout and that the performance will be really important, but there are 2 cars i wanted to tune.

500PP Racing Class: Clio Renault Sport Trophy Race Car

625PP Racing Class: Lamborghini Diablo GT-1 '00

Hi!

Fill me as tuner:

625pp - M3 GTR Race Car

500pp - waiting for a low milage car appears on UCD because i can't be bothered to break one premium.

Entering
Acura NSX RM '91 - Lower Class
ZR1 (RM) - Higher Class

Gotta say..Very tempting to enter the nearly 1000HP Lemon Car (Vertigo)

The Zonda R is nothing. Not a street car, or a tuner car, concept, or race car.
But it's a cool car that fits the shootout perfectly right?

And actually, race tracks (those that allow it) are in fact the only legal place to drive them, sans private testing grounds.

SGT? Super GT? Were these used in the JGTC FITT Challenge? If so, I didn't want to duplicate them here. If now, let me know which ones should be in.
To see how they compare to the rest of the race cars?
You know, like an "all racing cars" shootout.

NASCAR - I think I want a challenge using real race cars. :)
You know, like an "all racing cars" shootout. :P

I couldn't possibly enter all 3, it just seems like they fit the bill, and could be interesting to see how they stack up if someone uses one.
