I will get FH5 just for the fun of driving in a open map but it is a complete different game. They are complementary not rivals.
Rivals, not rivals, it barely matters. PD doesn't observe what other games are doing and react, ever. In fact the last time I recall even a mention of any other title, it was Spore.

What on earth is the context for that hahahaha, I remember the Bad Piggies mention vividly though, it still keeps me up at night.

Youtube views are very low for such an event with promotion by the organizer. Regular updates videos get more views (and the numbers are not impressive either). So that's an indication that those events do not attract a big crowd.
GTWS livestream viewership stats, using data posted by @Dibs on event threads after it wrapped up post-race:
Funny you mentioned Porsche because there was a Porsche-themed event back in GT Sport:

But now, they seem to move to either iRacing or Raceroom. But I hope in Toyota’s case, the regional versions of the GT Cup could remain in one form or the other.
There was also this in GT7 in the US (the 2023 competition moved to time trial format like HRC eMS before being discontinued altogether):

There's a way to say this without coming across as hostile & confrontational.
I admit that I can be blunt, but exactly how am I coming across as hostile & confrontational?

Well it kinda came across like you were belittling them just for stating something they wrongly believed to be the case.
A simple correction on the fact as Famine did is all that was needed, rather than putting a focus on the mistaken user.
I'd imagine this is the kind of stuff that could cause someone to leave an internet forum altogether.

Holy exaggeration.

Well I don't watch it and neither does anyone else I know, both online and in real life. Nobody cares.

There's a way to not call the folks that do care and did watch, "nobody".

Considering how some folks, who still need to carry a towel with them, to dry behind their ears, don't often concern themselves with insulting others and move on.

So because I put only in all caps two words in an entire sentence (As opposed to a whole post in caps), I was "Hostile and Confrontational". Abit overreactive if that is aggressive to both of you considering what I have seen here on this very forum.

Except I'm not belittling anyone. Said user has repeatedly posted in this fashion (and not just to me either) so it's less "Mistaken" on his part and seemingly intentional. I simply asked for proof on his statement and instead he comes back with that. No numbers or data, just a broadsweeping statement posted as fact based solely on him and everyone he knows not watching.

I do enjoy the world series streams. Think they can be quite fun watching to.

But i would rather have pd focus more on the single player stuff and other areas to improve the experince. But i think gt7 is at its very end soon. So i dont expect anything major until gt8. The updates dosent bring much to the table either. Very few perfomence cars. No good single player content. No tracks.
But sophy ai in custom races was a very welcome suprice.

I am still intrested on what response pd and Sony will have this month given fh5 releases on ps5
I just wish the participant variety would go up a notch or two. It's nearly always the same people.

It does seem like you may be getting your wish, what with several of the biggest names not participating this year. :sly:

I guess we find out soon enough.
Not really, no:

It doesn't matter what any other games are doing, PD does PD.

We do find out when its update time later this month. Unless you have some insider information, that we dont have access to.
Pd might not care what other games are doing. But Sony does. And they are controlling pd pretty much. Just like Microsoft for forza.

Releasing the most popular current racing game on a rival console sure could put more pressure.

Sony care about the 30% they get from each sale of Forza on the PS Store.

Sony will care if they see forza horizon 5 getting more attention than their own flagracer.
1. They would only care if it was still an exclusive to a rival system and people were buying that instead of a Playstation, and spending their money on the Microsoft/Xbox store. Now the games are on Playstation they just count the cash and even promote Microsoft games themselves on the official Playstation social media channels and Youtube.

2. Getting more attention? Have you seen the preorder charts in practically every PS Store on the planet? That horse has well and truly bolted. Horizon is the top dog.

I would prefer to have all racing titles on all plattforms. It would be much better for the competetion. And would force the devs to put in more effort.

Not saying that i dont like gt7 i do. But their is areas that could be much better that sadly has not made any big improvments even after 3 years. Pretty much any modern racing game nowdays have terrible single player career and progression, and it use to be strong point like 15 years ago.

It doesn't matter what any other games are doing, PD does PD.
Of the big names in the non-arcade racing game space, it seems to me like everyone is going in the same direction except Polyphony.
Even its most closely-related rival, Forza Motorsport, has been making a habit of adding racecars. It just added another two in its latest content update from what I can tell.
GT to my knowledge is the only one offering things like the Unimog, Kangoo, C-HR, CX-30, Alphard, HiMedic etc. It's a bit like it's in its own genre within a genre that no one else inhabits.

Some may see this difference as a good thing; GT making its own distinct identity. Others may wish GT was closer to how everything else seems to be; staying relevant to the current racing game landscape.
I'm somewhere in the middle. I think my ideal 3-car structure for each month/update would be:
  • 1 low or medium-end road car
  • 1 medium or high-end road car
  • 1 race or rally car
  • They can be a mix of any era or type/category

How exactly does a title that is pretty much at the end of its own life cycle with this PS5 port the ONLY thing left putting more pressure on PD? Its Horizon 5, Not 6.

As mentioned, the only thing Sony will care about is how much that they are about to get from a Forza title (Something I didn't think I'd even be talking about, but here we are).

This is interesting to watch play out, it feels like the culmination of the issue we've often talked about where PD try to spin both the classic content plate and the Sport Mode plate and end up kind of ineffectual at both.

If I were PD, I think I'd see the writing on the wall, pivot away from Sport Mode, and re-tool GT8's online offerings to be more based around the whole car roster at the expense of the GTWS. But I could also see them desperately trying to hold on to streamers and top-tier players who they worry won't play non-race car content.
It’s crazy because Kaz admitted data showed older players play “offline” for hours and younger players play Sport mode for a couple races and turn the system off.

August 27, 2021
Let’s read what Kaz says about GTS(gtp news article from Option):

Interestingly, Yamauchi acknowledges that fans may not always follow how Gran Turismo games change from generation to generation. That particularly applies to Gran Turismo Sport, and its shift into esport. “It may have seemed quite outlandish for some people!” he remarked, and notes that support for the game grew in a different way to previous titles, gaining more momentum later in its life.

Sport Mode then, as we’ve seen in the Gran Turismo 7 trailer last July, still has a major role to play, but GT7 will be nostalgic for those who played the previous games. “While inheriting elements such as the [FIA] championship realized in Sport, Gran Turismo 7 will return to the royal purpose of full volumes like [Gran Turismo] 1-4, and provide the best Gran Turismo experience at present,” says Yamauchi.

Of course we’ve previously heard that GT7 would be a combination of the “past, present, and future” of Gran Turismo, so this reinforcement comes as music to the ears of those fans of classic GT games.

I have to requote this one from Kaz via gtplanet:
“When you look at the distribution of the age groups playing Gran Turismo,” he explains, “it becomes apparent that those in the higher age groups prefer playing offline and the younger generation actually like playing online against others”.

That’s not the whole story either, as not only does player preference differ by generation, player behavior does too.

“The traditional Gran Turismo players, they play offline and they spend hours and hours in the game,” says Yamauchi. “The new generation of users will log in online, play maybe one or two races, and then log off. So the playing style is quite different between the two”.
For GT7 some of us higher age groups indeed have to play for hours to afford all the daggone multiples of cars and parts to customise each of them.

If Sport Mode was set up like World Circuit Mode(offline), where Sport Mode combined the Lobby & Paddock, Daily Races, TT events, Manufacturer & Nations events, plus rotation of Weekly races from offline, PD might see younger players spending more time online.
Treat both modes like the old discs. Separately. Make the title screen ask World Circuit Mode or Sport Mode.

Make the Sport Mode Map have all the circuit maps on screen, rather than looking like a resort. Simplify it for PS4 and make it more detailed for PS5/PS5P.

Pretty much any modern racing game nowdays have terrible single player career and progression, and it use to be strong point like 15 years ago.
My hot take on this is 15+ years ago, the online racing community (we're talking 2010) was nowhere near as robust as it is today. Those were the days of GT5 Prologue in 2007 and GT5 in 2010. Gran Turismo 5 was the first major release since Gran Turismo 4, and the first major/numbered entry to have a native online race option.

As a direct result, single player was still the primary focus of the game. While PD believed online would work, it was still (comparatively) in its infancy.

Also on the comment about older GT7 folks . . . I'm very much in that category. I will spend hours offline just cruising in VR. I'll make liveries (again, offline) that will take me days to complete and do custom races.

But I certainly do spend a good chunk of time online as well. I log in and do a couple-few (tm) races and/or time trial daily. I practice for the GTWS.

However, when I'm downstairs in the early hours of the weekend on the phone w/ a truck driving friend of mine? I'm driving offline while we talk.

Who says that there's even an update this month?

Nonetheless, every time someone says "Hey, [event] is happening; PD's going to respond with [wishlist]", and every time no part of that happens. Then there's some post hoc rationalisation and/or complaining, and the cycle repeats.

PD doesn't care what's happening in any other games. A launch of some title or other may be on your radar but it's not on theirs. PD does its own thing.

By all means set yourself up for disappointment though. Just don't drag anyone else down with you.

Unless you have some insider information, that we dont have access to.
You should always assume that we do. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't, but you should assume it either way.

That's... not how anything works, but you go off.

No, but it just grinds you down more and more over time you know? It gets close to a point of apathy at times, but then something comes along at random and ends up reigniting the spark for a while.
Lately that's been the addition of Sophy A.I. to Custom Race mode. Running multi-class races against them with Boost set to Weak has been fun. It's terrifying how efficient they are at lapping traffic. Went 4-wide at one point.
Highly recommend trying it out for those with a PS5 :D
