The rule with "pitlanes" is the game needs somewhere not on the track itself that it can auto-drive a full field out of in lobbies/qualifying. This does not necessarily need to be a pitlane - Catalunya Rallycross's starting area counts, for instance. But it does need to exist, which is why we didn't get Red Bull Ring Club or the Catalunya layout that's just the bit you don't drive in the National layout, and it does need to be able to hold a full grid, which is why Suzuka West is never coming back.

Yas Marina's southern pitlane more than meets that requirement, so I don't think the South layout is out of the question, and obviously the North layout is just your standard shorter layout that uses the same pitlane.
Can you please explain this a bit more? I think I missed the point, but it looks very interesting

If we're being picky, the BHP is still 200.
And that's depressing, if that's how the PP calculation method works. That's why the Super Formula and Group 1 and 2 cars look like cheats in Group 3 races.
Actually, 200 is the car's ps rating, not bhp. They are not equivalent.

Okay, so:

Every track layout in the game that is playable in multiplayer* has an area where the game starts all the cars in Qualifying when in lobby races or GTWS. This area has to be able to hold the maximum number of cars that track layout allows**. This area is a pitlane for every track layout in the game except for Catalunya Rallycross, where it is the starting area; but it must not be on the circuit itself.

This is not a problem for fictional circuits, as PD can put pitlanes wherever they want (Maggiore has 3, for instance). But it means that layouts of real world tracks that do not have such an area, like Red Bull Ring Club or Nürburgring Müllenbach, or ones where the facilities are not up to par for the number of cars they'd need to hold, like Suzuka West, should not be expected to ever come to the game.

In the case of Yas Marina, it has two pitlanes that are viable, so the North and Corkscrew layouts that use the main pits and the South layout that uses the secondary one after the chicane are all possible additions (though Corkscrew seems a bit of a pointless one to me, it cuts out like one turn).

*Nürburgring Nordschleife Tourist is not playable in any mode that starts you in the pits, so I have no idea what the behaviour is there.
**16 for all Lake Louise layouts and Catalunya Rallycross; 20 for all other track layouts.

I suspect the Nurburgring Tourist layout has its own custom pit-style area due to its unique layout. Find it bizarre that despite seemingly modeling a fair bit of the parking lot that PD don't use more of it to fit cars.

And for that matter, "bhp" isn't even a unit while "PS" (even though I hate it) is. The unit for "bhp" is "hp"; "bhp" is the unit and how the unit is measured.
So much hate. ;) Why? HP & PS ratings are both derivative values, one imperial, the other metric, and both only relevant to give the marketing wonks something to play with.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but why are some of you saying this will be 1.64 and there will be no updates until Spec III.
I assume the Xiaomi will be coming before then and is not one of the four unknown cars.

During the Spec III trailer it referred to it as v1.64 in the small print at the bottom of the screen.

PS is derived from an imperial unit, expressed in metric units and then "urgh that doesn’t feel nice"d to an integer - and not even rounded properly.

SI units are supposed to be one of unit A x/÷ by one of unit B, like the actual metric W unit is. SI is for reason, imperial is for feelings, and PS is one masquerading as the other and ending up as neither. It's the bastard hellspawn of both and should have been drowned in a puddle of 0W30 at birth.

Thank you for this very explicative answer. Makes you (a generic you, not you Nakano of course, since I well remember your randomizer, so you are clearly versed in GT7) wonder how much is going on behind the scenes in the game that we never get to notice (like tyre temps and dirtiness for example). A thought that came to my mind the other day while seeing the background video in Scapes, which made me realize that all (?) Scapes are effectively short track sections, since in the background mode it generates videos of cars driving over there

If you use SimHub you can see some of this data.

I can’t remember the game (may not even have been GT) but the tyres used to start blue, go green and be red when they were over heating. Was a great addition to the game

That was PS1 and PS2-era tire wear notation. Blue indicated cold tires, green indicates a warmed tires that's not yet worn out, which turns red as it wears.

I swear there was a message from someone in the know how 1.64 in the video seems to be a mistake and they have different information about the matter. Can't find it now though so maybe it was deleted because their information turned out to be wrong. Personally wouldn't be surprised if at least Xiaomi gets a separate update before that to highlight the car.

The tyre temp changing is on the normal HUD in this game, they've just made it very hard to see for some reason. It's even mentioned in the online manual.

Yeah I’ve seen that - but it was the whole tyre before not just the outline and was visible with a glance. It would be really cool - especially in wet races

They did not need to show an update number. Its clear that there won’t be anything until Spec 3

They’ve changed update numbers a couple of times before. They actually start branches as names then give them a number on release

It was a comment by Famine in this post (and not deleted).

@Scuderia Paul and @RACECAR

Thanks!

I was all excited about the announcement that I never even saw the video! :banghead:

Hopefully (but not likely) there will be a 1.632 and 1.637 or whatever before 1.64 OR it was supposed to be 1.64 but they pushed it to December and it will be 1.66.

Well, I didn't say it was a mistake really. I just opined that I'll hold any conclusions in reserve for now as we've previously seen not-accurate information delivered in this manner:
At the moment I'm reserving some conclusions on that one as I'd been told something slightly different (without specifics) and we've seen errors on subtitles/disclaimers before...

... like "PlayStation 5 Exclusive"
I am minded to think that naming a version number is a bit too specific to be accidental, but I'll just keep a little bit of hopium until October 23rd/30th pass.
