I was about to post my prediction for the January update when I realized I hadn't even reviewed Spec III..
All in all, a solid 1.65 update to me but an underwhelming Spec III. Certainly, we have two new circuits, but this must be put into a context where we haven't seen anything for a year and a half. Same goes for cars after two months without any update. However, the year-end results are positive on this point; 2025 was the most content-rich year in terms of cars since the game's launch.
They really need to rethink the pace at which they release QOLs, it's way too slow. They shouldn't been Spec XXX things every two year, but something they push on a monthly basis.
1 - New cinematic intro :
Good stuff, even for something I will only watch once. I'm always impress how gorgeous their models looks without any config limit, it shows how crazy could be the next Gen title.
2 - New cars :
Sure many player were waiting for the Ferrari 296 GT3. Not that I question its addition, it's a really good car, just that it's not a game changer for me. Its little sister isn't the easiest car to drive.
The Fiat Panda is a funny little thing, too bad it's not the 45hp version though.
I've never been a huge F1 fan so I wasn't in a hurry to get my hands on the brand new F3500-B. Good addition though (especially with the new engine swaps), maybe they will experience a similar approach with open top LMP cars.
Yet another GT-R, sure it's a good addition for what it is, but the more they add Nissan GT-R the less I love them as a whole. Too bad.
The Polestar 5 Isn't an ugly car, but it serve no purpose as long we don't have EV dedicated races and we cannot create custom races with them.
And then we have the Renault Espace F1 and the Mitsubishi FTO. It was interesting to note that simply adding these two cars suddenly made GT7 more like a proper Gran Turismo game. Mitsubishi finally has something else than an armada of Evos. Awesome cars!
3 - New tracks :
It took them a lot of time, lol. I have never had the slightest interest in Yas Marina, but it must be said that its modeling is impeccable; they did a very good job. The same attention to details was given for CGV, I had never realized how narrow that track was before to test it in GT7.
4 - Dunlop tires :
Like... I care ?
5 - Collector level cap raised :
It wasn't much of a deal for me as I already had every cars in the game. This big game design issue had to be addressed at some point whatsoever. I just secretly hoped it would have allowed us to sell parts and engines too... So an half baked QOL feature to me.
6 - New world circuits events :
Only 7 really ? Spec II had 20 of them.
7 - Revamped Weelkly Challenges :
At the end of the day, it only concerns the special event that will switch format from time to time. Underwhelmed by this but not that dire. Anyway, I wasn't launching the game to do that, I'm not a FOMO prey.
8 - Data logger :
I am not the target, it's that simple.
9 - The new Seasonal Menu :
What a joke… There was nothing to get hyped about.
Miscellaneous - Extra Menus / New scapes / New museum and channel entries at Brand central / New sets of conversations in the Café / Engine swaps :
Why not ? Neither good nor bad, just a part of what GT7 is. Where is the Citroën Museum though ? Strange it still isn't here.
