Somehow I think that French gaming site is pulling your leg. However, those release dates seem potentially close to the truth.

Hey guys, I said SONY OFFICIALY ANNOUNCED THIS, THEREFORE IT IS TRUE. In a couple hours, the news will spread on this board and people will be like OO we did not knew. I know it's hard to believe but it's unfortunately true.

See ya :sly:

Thanks. I'm still a little skeptical, though, and you have to understand why. Since I've taken French at school I understand the article. The boarders over there complaining about no online and their release date is damn funny.

I'll try to translate the article as best I can:

It's final that March 9 2005 is the Eurpoean GT4 release date. Sony Europe have (released a notice?) giving the release date, and the exhaustive list of 52 tracks. The categories are as follows: tracks from around the world, Puissance? and speed rings, Driving Park [machine tests], Fantasy tracks, Dirt and Ice Rally and City tracks. Players will be able to ...what??...notably Endurance and B-Spec (?). It will be possible to race specific stat autos or of cource, races with GT restrictions. At last, it will be possible to race these (courses, events?) backwards. It's unknown if this is a good excuse for the lack of online mode, but ???. The Japanese version is to be released December 28th.

Sorry about the bad translation, and correct me please.

Well, even though they claim to be repeating an "official announcement", you'll notice that there's no link. No proof that the announcement ever actually happened. If you watch other news sites (Gamespot, IGN, etc), whenever there's an announcement like this, they also provide a link to the actual announcement from SCEJ/A/E. This one doesn't have that. And, to the best of my knowledge, there is no such announcement anywhere on SCEE's or SCEA's respective websites. Which means there has been no announcement. Which means they're lying to you.

Or, you can think about it like this: If there really had been an official announcement, it would have been news here on GTP within minutes, and we'd all be chatting about it. But, lo and behold, there hasn't been. And one French website isn't going to change that. That site's no different from any other site, with it's own batch of release dates. Don't pay attention to any of them. If you don't see the press release with your own eyes, then it's just a wild guess like all the others.

Lol no, they state "l'absence de mode en ligne" The lack of online mode. And why do you use AV/google/ect translaters? Any can use that crap

Here's the date SCEA is giving: March 2005. What's more official than the word from Sony?

See ya

But the French website says February 22 and not March for the US version, so which one is accurate in your opinion? I wouldn't believe a word they say until it's actually announced somewhere and isn't just listed on some website, even if it's Sony. Not everybody at Sony knows the official date if there is one, and maybe this was put in by some salesman that doesn't have a clue.

Cheers,

I don't trust any one of them, to tell the truth, but at least that one came from the playstation's official web site. That french site was really untrustworthy, and just like Jedi said,
whenever there's an announcement like this, they also provide a link to the actual announcement from SCEJ/A/E. This one doesn't have that.
Always back up your info with a a link to the source.

Is Japan still on for the 28th?

There seems very little news about all the different championships in the game, licence tests etc and I would have thought this info would have slipped out by now if 28th was still on.

Plenty of news about cars/tracks/photo mode etc, but I'd really like to know more about the various championships.

There will be 200 various championships...

Puleeze... While that site may be affilated with SCEA, they're not all-knowing. In the end, they're just like any other site, just making it up as they go along. If that's the official date, how come every time I talk to someone at SCEA, they're totally clueless as to a release date beyond "Q1 2005".

Fact is, playstation.com is not the end-all/be-all of official news. These are the people that said the fishing controller was compatible with GT4.

Until I read a PRESS RELEASE with a confirmed release date, I'm not going to believe ANY website, even if it's on Playstation.com, not even the official GT4 site.

If you're right, it'll be little more than coincidence. If you're wrong, I'll be the first one to point it out to you.

YZF
And why did you thought so?

P.S. I think 200 is more than enough.

Early reports suggesting 500 events in GT4.
Ok I see from the new site that there are over 200 championships in GT Mode alone.
That still leaves the mission events, time trials, arcade mode and licenses (indicated to be around 100 license tests),
Which could easily total 500 events for the whole game.

Sorry for any confusion

I thought I read somewhere a few days ago that it would be 650 events. That'll keep you busy for a while.

Welcome to GT Planet, Rody

Don't trust any web site that gives a release date unless the info is from a Sony Press Release. I'll bet that date that store gave was just a guess.

Thanks for the Welcome, Smoke_U_24/7 (Although I'm registered here since June/July). 👍

Well, I know I shouldn't trust this kind of information, but something tells me that a March release is just... not real. I believe late January/ early February is a reasonable date.

Anyway, hopefully we'll have the answer to this question this week *crosses fingers*.

Here are release date:

France: 20th February.
Canada: 15th March.
UK: 25th February.
US: 15th March.

All dates are from Amazon websites and are 2005.
