Gameplay Video: Watch Forza 6’s Ferrari FXX K Tackle Monza

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOYRkQRdl7k&feature=youtu.be

Earlier this month, Turn 10 unveiled Forza 6’s seventh DLC selection, the Top Gear Car Pack. Loaded with modern metal, the star of the pack is undoubtedly Ferrari’s exclusive track toy, the self-censoring FXX K. This should be obvious: it’s fast. Not exactly fusion-powered fast (that’s the domain of the Chryslus Rocket 69), the new Ferrari nonetheless occupies the upper echelon of cars in the game.

Without Fiorano, Ferrari’s personal test track, the next-most appropriate circuit in the game to explore the FXX K’s performance envelope is Monza. Alongside a quick poke around the car in Forzavista, that’s precisely what we’ve done in the video up top.

If you want to peak inside the engine bay, sit in the interior, or even just take in all the factory paint options, start from the beginning. If you want to get straight to the on-track action, skip forward to around 1:30.

I wish I had time to check this dlc out but I’m too busy playing the GT Sport beta that came out early 2016 as announcued… Oh wait, maybe I do have time.

Lol, can we just change the site name to Forzaplanet, or Anydrivinggamebutgtplanet?

  2. warpkez

Might be just me, but did the gamer take some of those corners a bit slow? I mean 40mph (64kph) through the first chicane seems a bit slow.

  3. gt6champnk69

IMO that the tyresqueel sound like a dj scratching on the mixer pult, and the engine is nothing like what that Ferrari sounds like in real life. And in real life you don’t hear the tire squeel because of the massive engine sound, you only hear it if you do a massive lock up. The sound guy is really tone deaf. I find Project Cars are much better.

  4. FosterG

Love driving this car, plus the sound is not bad imo, nothing is going to replicate the real car except the real car, the Laferrari only sounds good to me when in chase cam view.

  5. Nielsen

I have the input deadzones set to 0 – 100 and steering is both smooth and totally manageable with the standard controller. I’m not sure I’d find the tapping technique preferable in any way, habit or not. I should add that I use the interior view, making the steering wheel a good visual reference for smooth input.

    1. ImaRobot

I myself have grown into habbit of doing that, although this started since the first time I’ve started playing any sort of Racing game lol. I also use interiors view, but I can tell you, it isn’t slowing me down any.

  6. Mulan

No smoothness when turning and the annoying fake tyresqueel is just so annoying i cant even bother looking at the rest of video. How am i supposed to even buy and drive it?!?!
Engine sounds awfull too… Forza can be nice in still pictures and muted.

    1. Samus

What exactly would real tyre squeal sound like? Also do explain in detail why that engine sound is “awful”.

    2. KiroKai

I do think the sound is pretty bad, it’s neither as beautiful as a LaFerrari nor as powerful or brutal as Ferrari XX cars. The Autovista revs sounded weird in particular, reminded me strongly of how revving a car in Test Drive Unlimited 2 garages used to sound.

I keep noticing the lack of steering input smoothing as well, there seems to be no speed sensitivity or anything to make soft corrections? It almost looks like it’s played with a keyboard.

    3. johnnyman123

I do have to agree, the tire squeal sounds so bad and generic…it sounds like something that would come from a PS2 racing game…its obvious they put zero effort in this sound. I was expecting them to fix this in Forza 6 from Forza 5 but clearly someone at T10 is completely deaf in both ears.

    4. Kyle P.

The lack of smoothness in the steering is on me. The Ferrari has incredibly sensitive steering, so taking small little bites in turns is the easiest way to manage. The sweeper after the chicane in the second lap, for instance, is where I do it the most. Call it a bad habit from when I first started playing racing games!

Slower cars tend to exhibit less of this problem, I find.

    5. ImaRobot

The smoothness is not the game, it’ll rely on player input. Slight taps is a known method within the community for those that are using a pad, it’s nothing new, in any Racing game.

    6. Tenacious D

No, Mulan is right. The engine almost sounds synthesized – kind of like people complain about many cars in GT5 and 6 as I recall. And those tire sounds are just awful. I haven’t touched F6 since October, and I’d forgotten those dreadful “strangled predator” tire noises. And do you guys really like those morse code tire squeaks as cars struggle to get through chicanes? As cars bash each other unmercifully?

MS even managed to mess up an install of a game on a console, to the point it won’t even recognize an official Thrustmaster wheel controller is plugged in. While still functioning for the most part, just badly. So now my $900 Forza rig is essentially Fallout scrap, except I can’t recycle it and add some raw materials to turn it into a PS4. Haven’t even installed the free Halo game because I’m so disgusted with MS. If anyone should throw something up on ebay, it’s me.

For you guys enjoying this game, more power to ya, but the thrill is gone for me. Waiting expectantly for Deus Ex, No Man’s Sky, and that dreaded game this place is based around. Meanwhile, killing raiders and supermutants as I aim for that “happy” ending.

    7. Mulan

Samus, i use headphones and its clear the sound lacks alot of detail, depth, rumble. Gearbox sound truly wrong and without warmth or depth.
Hard to explain, but its just false.

Hoped developers wanted sound to be realistic as
      well.

    8. Fat Tyre

@Ten D I know you lack objectivity but anyway I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt…

In regards to the TX problem, Did you update the firmware on a PC before using it on the Xbone? That was the first thing I did with the wheel. In case you haven’t, try doing that. I’m asking because I have one as well (yep, similar whoopty doo $900 rig) and never had a problem with it. I played FM5, FH2, FM6 demo and FM6 and never encountered a single problem with my TX.

In fact, Forza games have been the only ones where I haven’t had to tweek any settings and everything felt great from the start. In pCARS I still haven’t found a good playable setting yet and with Codemaster titles (F1 2015 and Dirt Rally) you can get them to be really good but you do need to fiddle a bit. Any way I’m pointing this out because it seems strange what is happening to you, to the point that I have doubts you are telling the truth but that’s to your post history and GT fanatism. Sorry for being blunt but your post reads like you are just trying to use any excuse to bag Forza even when this problem with this peripheral seems to be the exception (otherwise we would have hundreds or thousands of posts here and in forzamotorsport forum crying about the same issue).

    9. Johnnypenso

I had to listen to a real life video to check out the sounds for myself and I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as some make out, especially in comparison to GT6, it’s main console competitor. While the Forza FXX K does sound synthesized and lacks some depth and complexity, they did get the overall feel of of the sound right IMO relative to the cockpit view I watched in the Imola video I found online.

    10. Tenacious D

@ Fat Tyre, I did as you suggest. The wheel works great on PC racers. I have none other to try on XBone nor do I want to buy any. It may simply be that the demo installed poorly and messed up the XBone equivalent of a registry. The wheel implementation flaw seems to be uncommon, but if you go to the official Forza forums, you’ll see that some of us have indeed suffered with it.

On these games, I’m plenty objective. I just happen to like Gran Turismo, which around here seems to be an uncool position to have. Like I care. Rather, I’d say that there is a lot of fanboyism in GT Planet over Forza, to the point that any criticism causes a minor food fight to erupt. It’s a nice series, which being a clone of Gran Turismo certainly helps. But sorry, I just see it as a clone which does a few things better, a few things worse, and certainly not God’s gift to racing games.

These racers each have their own flavors, which is why they ALL have their fans, you may have noticed. If being a fan of GT is a point of contention, I’d point out my purpose on this world isn’t to agree with you or check with you on what I’m supposed to like or approve of. I prefer GT to Forza, simple as. In fact, I prefer F4 to F6. And I currently prefer RaceRoom to all of them, surprise surprise, a game which to me is about the best offering in sim racing to date. But if Forza is your BFF, yay for the two of you, it’s no paint off my fender if it is. ;D

    11. ImaRobot

Yeah, those 10 active members of the Forza section of the site are just out of control, aren’t they! They certainly are the majority in this case.

      lol.

It’s less the criticism that causes the food fight, its the fact that the forum is plagued with people that chime in just to say “OMGHAWD FORZA SUCKS GT IS SO MUCH BETTER WITH SO AND SO THAN FORZA” Usually with little to no backing on the subject at hand, or those that just outright ignore the proof against whatever they’re mentioning.

Either way, I find it funny that you think that liking GT is the “uncool position” as its quite literally not. The forum has thrice the amount of people that praise it, than those that don’t. What you’re explaining fits the bill for Forza fans though, because as soon as you mention something you like about it, and something you would think would be good to borrow from said series, it becomes a crap-flinging contest. Its almost literally the complete opposite of what you’re trying to make it seem.

    12. Tenacious D

I’m sorry Mr Penso, but you and the others in the peanut gallery are too cute by half. Lol.

I have said plenty of things that I want improved – let me emphasize this so you won’t miss it – IMPROOOOOVED about Gran Turismo. This usually implies things I have criticized or found lacking, because, maybe I’m wrong about this, but you don’t improve something that’s pretty darn perfect.

I have said a number of times that there are a lot of things I really dig about Forza. In particular, that F4 had some physics elements that I don’t feel implemented in some very good PC sims. In particular, I find the dangerous feel of a sports car like a Golf GTI taken to the edge at high speed quite authentic and exhilarating, while in Gran Turismo things are much more placid in contrast. But yes, I have also said that overall, the issues in Forza eventually get my goat and I drop it, sometimes for years. The steering issues in F6 are intolerable, so it lasted maybe a month. Haven’t touched it since.

I have remarked quite a few times that if the physics and tire model of Gran Turismo and Forza could be comfortably and properly merged, you’d have car behavior that was up with some of the best sims on the market.

But God forbid that someone who dares like te Standard cars (and tracks) in Gran Turismo say anything critical of God’s gift to racing, Forza or PCARS, because that simply means you have objectivity not, amirite? I mean, who was it who made a PCARS Whinging and Crying thread? And who was it who made a GT Whinging and Crying thread? Wasn’t me.

Like amar212, I find little reason to attend to the silly board politics around here all that much because it’s just a mess. Getting along and having anything resembling a discussion or exchange of ideas is kind of hard, especially with certain members who have to play minimods around here, and mods taking weird sides. I think Lawndart said it best, a guy who races in the SCCA in his Miata. And imagine this, LIKES Gran Turismo. And I quote:

“Geez… The bulk of the GT planet community reminds me of fight club… People get hyped, take a stance on something, hold it dear and personal, then someone steps in a booby trap and POW… The match begins…

“Such a divided group, like a microcosm of modern day America…

“I’m no peace maker, and in fact I promote argument as I work in a creative field, but the lack of any of it being constructive is exhausting.”

It’s no wonder that amar212 left for Neo pastures…

    13. ImaRobot

While I don’t mind most of what you say Ten, you seem to have a problem with people discussing your opinion. If you’re going to introduce yourself into a situation, why are you going to get so bothered that people are going to have differing opinions? It’s a discussion, it happens, but you go around and damn the whole board because you have people(most likely the same group all the time, not a bunch of randoms, so it’s odd that you’d damn everyone) that don’t fall in line with what you think. Ironically enough though, the quote about the GTP community you posted fits you just as well as anyone else.

It’s like you expect everyone to just be you, and have your liking, and as soon as you find someone that disagrees with you, you turn and have a fit. The discussions I’ve seen you in have been pretty well backed up with facts, and the times you have been a bit off, it was corrected, but you seem to take it the wrong way. You make some absolutely absurd statements, like this one

“his is human nature in the new millennium. Be offended at everything. Be jealous of everyone who has a dollar more than you. Demand free lunch or the world is unfair and Jesus hates you. Look who’s running away with recent contests on the democrat side of our presidential primaries. As if the other three are much better…”

and then wonder why people approach you in the way you do. You are the cause of your own undoing. Ironically enough, the reasons you posted for Amar leaving, and what he described the community as, fits you just as well as anyone else.

    14. Johnnypenso

Like I said, TenD likes to play the martyr card…lol. He makes the same posts over and over, setting himself up as the “Great White Hope” for GT fans, much abused, much maligned simply for liking Gran Turismo. Of course nothing could be further from the truth. It’s not his GT fandom that draws consistent criticism it’s the falsehoods and inaccuracies he spews about both GT and other games and his consistent refusal to acknowledge his inaccuracies in spite of them being point out to him over and over and over. The fact that he thinks the physics and tire model of GT have any place in a very realistic sim tells you all you need to know about his knowledge of racing game physics and his impartiality…lol.

Also, I did a search for that “quote” by Lawndart on GTP and, surprise, surprise, the only hit I get is this thread and your quote. Since you “quoted” it, you must have a link to the actual response, can you post it please. For reference, here’s the link to my search. I took out the word “Geez” in the off chance that you added that for dramatic effect but the search results were the same either way of course.

I’d also like clarification on this:
“It may simply be that the demo installed poorly and messed up the XBone equivalent of a registry. ”

Are you saying you are playing the F6 demo or are you saying that installing the demo somehow messed up your wheel and you are actually playing the full game? Either way, if you think the demo messed up the wheel on Forza, why don’t you just uninstall the demo and the game and start over? Or you can’t be bothered pressing those handful of buttons?
