GT Academy 2012 Exceeds 1 Million Players

GT Academy 2012 seems to have captured the interest of PS3 gamers as the number of unique players participating passed the magic 1,000,000 mark earlier this week.

In a series of Tweets on June 19th, Kazunori Yamauchi shared with us a number of statistics about the download’s impact. Current numbers include:

  • Over 1,000,000 unique PSN IDs playing
  • Over 10,000,000 gold trophies attained
  • More than 174,000,000 player retries
  • 111,240,000 miles/178,980,000 km driven – enough to drive from the Earth to the Sun and almost a fifth of the distance back again!

There are still four days to go until this first phase of GT Academy closes on June 25th and qualifying, registered players from eligible countries will be selected for their regional finals based on their Round 8-5 times – and for the rest of us to secure the gold trophies needed to get bonus gifts in Gran Turismo 5.

While there’s time left, keep checking our GT Academy 2012 forum for hints, tips, and discussions with other players – and we wish good luck to all GTPlanet members!

Well then wait for July 4th! The release date for the GTA prizes has been known for some time now…

Does anyone know if any of the top 16 players as it stands have been to bootcamp before? Seems at least 5 of the top 16 were in the finals last year. obviously Jann M was one who else was in? maybe 17th would be enough if this is the case.

Is this available to everyone to download and play?
I’m in South Africa and can’t find it on PSN

    1. HuskyGT

Yes. I’m in El Salvador (don’t try to look for it in a map, you won’t find it) and I got it. If you have a US PSN just type it in the search bar.

You will be able to play for te prize cars even if your country is not eligable. However, you won’t be able to compete for the GT Academy thing.

There’s a guy on the #22 position in the round 8-5 leader board with an American flag designation – by the name of:

    “Let_Canada_In”.

    THAT should grab PD’s attention…

We know. But this isn’t what this article is about, is it? It’d be easier to wait for it if we weren’t constantly reminded of it in LITERALLY every news story.

Please don’t forget to mention that we are also waiting for GT6 and i’m sure some are also waiting for a PS4.

Good luck to those that make it too the next round, even if i was quick enough i doubt i would pass the physical.

Another fact; we’ve nearly traveled 10 light-minutes as of now – about 9.92 as of this writing.
Also, about 96.5 million nautical miles.
    I’m such a nerd! XD

And keep up the good work, France, you’re about ready to join the 1,000,000 club for gold medals!

Does anyone feel the need to know how many inches we’ve traveled…?

    XD

^ Do you want it in scientific notation, or standard notation?

Ok, I’ll do it in both!

As of now, we’re at about 181,950,000 KM

      in MM:

      Scientific Notation:

      1.8195e + 14

      Standard Notation:

      181,950,000,000,000

      I’m such a nerd… XD

    Nice number.

Even expected more retries, only 1 retry after 1 km and a bit.

Congrats to all front rows fillers

    Congrats to the 1%

    Last post!

That’s a lot of driving. Good luck to all, and especially to the 32 per region who go on to the next round.

      @Progress823

I think it’s time for PD to put their development and their focus on GT6. I’m guessing PD would fix bugs through updates for GT5. GT5 is a year and a half old already. We may hear info about GT6 after GT academy is over.

    2. Progress823

That’s the thing – if they rush GT6 to market it will be another GT5 – incomplete and unpolished. By PD giving good content/updates to GT5, thought it maybe a year and a half old, it would remain viable for a time to come. I am in no means saying that PD should not be working on GT6, but I am saying that they need to finish what was started and give us a complete GT5.
