GT Academy 2013 Racer X Competition Details, Public GT6 Demo in Los Angeles, June 11th & 12th

The schedule for the U.S. GT Academy 2013’s “Racer X” wildcard competition has just been released, and it’s going to be bigger and more competitive than ever.

Becoming “Racer X” offers one lucky member of the public a direct ticket to the U.S. GT Academy 2013 National Finals, where they’ll compete to be one of the top 16 finalists who travel to Race Camp and have the chance to become a professional race car driver for Nissan.

Anyone eligible can become “Racer X” – all you have to do is show up in front of the main entrance of the Los Angeles Convention Center, look for the GT Academy outdoor booth, and set a hot lap in a virtual time trial. The booth will be open during the following hours:

  • Tuesday, June 11, 2013
    • 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Pacific Time)
  • Wednesday, June 12, 2013:
    • 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Pacific Time)

Special prizes (tickets to E3!) will be awarded to five of the fastest contestants each day, and the overall top four fastest players will compete in a special time trial race on Thursday, June 13, inside E3 at Sony’s booth. The fastest driver will then become “Racer X”.

It is important to note a demo version of Gran Turismo 6 will be used throughout the competition. This will be the first time members of the public get to experience the new game, and offers a special opportunity for any Gran Turismo fan in the Los Angeles, California area that can’t be missed.

Read over the official contest rules for more details and information, and join the discussion with other potential competitors here in our GT Academy forum.

NOTICE: To clarify, there is no limit to the number of laps which can be completed by a contestant. Each participant will simply need to return to the back of the line after each of their turns. Please ask the attendants at the event for more details.

Good luck to all GTPlanet members and readers competing – see you at E3!

No, it’ll be playable only in situ at the LA Conference Centre, well, the booth outside the centre.

I should imagine it won’t be too long before the demo will be available for download – meant to be in July sometime.

Looks like you guys won’t have to line up for too long.

Check out the official contest rules. It says this:

“Contestant cannot post new times to event leaderboard as only one race is permitted.”

Good! That’s what they need to do for GTacadamy, half the reason I don’t care for GTA is because it’s like the powerball, there can only be one winner, and more than likely it will not be me because I refuse to sit hours and hours, trying to get the best time, when you got people out there that will do such and have the time to do such. they should give you an hour of practice, then three trys till you put your best lap in, not unlimited trys until the deadline, then it will be based on skill not who has the most time to qualify.

I think it’s because this is a different set up they’re able to do it this way. The GT Academy event itself will be just like before, as there are people from all different timezones going at it. Having said that, it would be fairer if the event only allowed you the hour practice and a few laps before shutting off.

It won’t happen this time though, as it’s also acting as a demo which folks will want to run again and again.

Once I was there I was expecting this rule to be enforced but the guys in charge were actually encouraging us to get another form and go back into the line. In the end I was able to officially set a time of 1:03.1 and another guy got a 1:02.9. Before leaving I took advantage of my free E3 pass and went to the GT6 booth to get more practice, getting a 1:02.8 before calling it quits at 4pm. I’ll be heading back tomorrow. >:)

Nice! :D But unfortunately, I can’t make it to Racer X, even though I live in Vegas and LA is close (around 1,000+ miles).

    But I don’t have a car right now… *Sigh*

But good luck to everyone going and if any one from Vegas is going, win the event like you hit the jackpot!! ;)

    1. smskeeter23

I think you mean 100 miles right? Otherwise your definition of “close” is VERY different than mine lol!

    2. VspecZR1GT2RS89

Yeah it’s around 100 miles, I was out today and the heat melted my brain lol.

Even if LA is close, I also want some time to hang out and go the beach at Santa Monica. Next time.

Downloadable demo including GT ACADEMY? I guess we will drive the 370Z on Silverstone’s variations doing time trials.

    1. 05XR8

Ahhh. That’s cool. It shouldn’t be too much to download. It’s basically like DLC. can’t wait!

GT6 demo has 10 that I’ve seen in a video that was posted nearly two weeks ago, but, like GT5 Prologue, it may have more!

    1. MeanElf

It has been announced that Sony will be showing GT6 at E3.

      I’m guessing that you’re joking jtj…? if not, Google E3 2013.

    1. Logoncal21

I’m brazilian. FROM RIO GRANDE DO SUL! what’s the problem? IT’S WAY MORE FARTHER THAN LA
it’s probaly like 3 or 5 thousand miles away.

    2. Quigz125

Ugh another reason why New York State sucks… I hate it here :/ at least I know I’m not the only one sad about not being able to go.

    1. 1gt6freak

I’m Canadian and we can’t participate, and we are neighbors with the Americans. But I’ll be playing the demo anyway.

    2. ScotteDawg

Europe, Canada – at least, if not this year, GTAcademy gets to your areas!

I’m in Australia – GTAcademy will NEVER come down here coz we’re too far away!

Well, either we’re too far away or they know we’re just too good…

    3. Louie_Schumii

ScotteDawg – stay positive, keep your fingers crossed but don’t hold your breath. If what Nissan’s been doing here in New Zealand and over there in Australia is anything to go by they’ve definitely considered bringing GT Academy back.

    4. ScotteDawg

Actually, I’m way too old and “big” to be a race driver, but…

I can see where you’re coming from though – the Nissan Altima in the V8 Supercars! This is the second piece of the puzzle leading to Bathurst being in GT6!! I also hope the Wellington circuit makes it in too!

(I was trying to come up with a sheep joke, but nothing would fit the tone of this conversation!) BAAAA!
