Local news reports from Andalusia, Spain, have confirmed the Ascari Race Resort circuit will be in Gran Turismo 6 and will host the game’s international launch party.
According to the article from AndaluciaInformacion.es, Kazunori Yamauchi was inspired by his visit to the region in the summer of 2012. Impressed with the facilities at Ascari, Polyphony Digital returned to the circuit in October of last year with a team of 38 people who the scanned the track and took “more than 86,000 photographs”.
The Ascari Race Resort hosts a private racing circuit for its members to enjoy their exotic cars. The track itself is the longest in Spain, featuring more than 5.4km of tarmac with 26 turns. (Note: These videos and photographs are from Ascari’s website – no material has been released which show the circuit in GT6.)
The nearby town of Ronda, Spain, was also likely scanned during this visit. The ancient town was prominently featured in the first screenshots and video trailers for GT6 when the game was formally announced back in May. Ronda has also been confirmed as a Course Maker location in the game.
The local news report quoted Yamauchi: “I know it may sound strange, but it is a special place Japanese love to go. When you see it on the map, it’s as if a giant had punched the earth, with its impressive, rugged terrain and charming architecture. I’ve been several times and think it should be in the game.”
Another scene from Andalusia was also seen in the Acura NSX Concept GT5 trailer released in January of this year, which featured the concept car sitting in a remote place with rugged mountains in the background.
GTPlanet member “nikel” is from the region and quickly identified the location near the small village of Montejaque, a short distance from Ronda and the Ascari Resort.
