GTPlanet Community Spotlight: Ready for the Next Generation

Gran Turismo 6

The 2015 Formula 1 season begins next week! I’ll dive into that a bit later on, but needless to say I’m plenty excited and am looking forward to what awaits at each and every corner.

Whether it be talking about the latest revealed concept car, posting pictures in any of the various gallery threads, talking about the upcoming Gran Turismo movie, or preparing for the 2015 GT Academy, the GTPlanet community is always active and is what makes the Community Spotlight such an enjoyable piece to write up every week. In fact I’m almost obliged to ask that some of you slow down because I am not a robot, I do have my limits.

Who’s ready for the spotlight?

This takes the concept of the “Picture of the Week” and takes it one step further by celebrating an entire user gallery.

This week’s featured gallery comes to us from Russia with love featuring ShaolinMasta. Opened on the 16th of December in 2013, SM’s gallery approaches GTPhotography with an artistic touch you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. You can find ShaolinMasta’s gallery in all of its glory right here, with the latest update being on the 16th of last month.

GTPlanet Thread of the Week – Cars in GT6 That Are PS4-Ready

image

We’re all waiting for Gran Turismo 7, there’s no denying that, but in the meantime I’m sure many of us are undoubtedly wondering how many of the newer models in Gran Turismo 6 are, in some way, future-proofed?

This week’s featured thread created by our very own syntex123 is on the lookout for those extremely detailed models that may very well be “PS4-ready”, due to the use of tessellation, a rendering technique that basically allows detail to be added or subtracted from the 3D mesh on-the-fly.

Make your way to the thread and share your thoughts (and pictures!) on the cars you think are PS4-ready.

GTPlanet Member of the Week

The time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community is upon us; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.

This week’s inductee can be a little “fooly” and you can seemingly find him anywhere on the forum which makes this all the more fitting, wouldn’t you say? Let’s give a most warm welcome to the newest member to find vacancy in the ever-growing Member of the Week madhouse, Custom878!

You’ll be able to read the full interview as soon as it’s available in the official thread right here.

B-Spec Smiles

We all have our opinions on B-Spec: some of us love it, some of us don’t quite understand its intended user base, and there are those of us that could just do without it altogether. However, there comes a point where looking past one’s own use for a feature and realizing it can be of great, nay, outstanding benefit to those of us for any number of reasons.

While the thread in question was recommended to us by breyzipp, the focal point of this is a post made by vasiliflame in regards to his son.

There are many people divided about B-spec i am hopefully going to explain why this is the best update for GT6 released to date.

This option opens up racing to disabled people and I am grateful it finally made it into GT6 only one year and 4 months late. I was going to skip GT6 this time until my son caught wind of it via YouTube (GT6 was the first Christmas present he made it clear he wanted. He cannot talk, he uses a Makaton for communication). From November to December it was on our TV constantly anything’s better than peppa pig.

Last night I spent 2 hours convincing him to try Gran Turismo again (even my 7yr old is disillusioned with GT6), he didn’t want to play. I explained finally B-spec has been released like on GT4 and GT5 and he should try to do the races again.

Now my son has never won a race on his own even though he’s been playing GT since he was 2 years old. But last night he won 5 races back to back and got himself some stars, you should have seen his face. This game has finally put a smile on my son’s face. A bit late for me as I wanted to see that 2 Christmas’s ago but at least he may have a bit of use out of it.

So all in all I am glad B-Spec is back and hope they don’t change it again.

If you want to share you opinions on B-Spec or display the jealousy you’ll inevitably feel knowing vasiliflame’s kid has seen a Lister Storm in person and you haven’t (I know I haven’t, and I’m extremely jealous as a result) you’re more than welcomed to stop by the thread right here!

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

Gran Turismo 6

We’ve been here before and I’m going to tell you that is now a permanent staple of this particular segment in the Community Spotlight. What am I referring to you ask? Last month we did things a little bit differently by showcasing the community’s efforts to tame/tune the Car of the Month, and we’re here to do it again!

A little different flavor this month as we tackle the “Raging Bull”! In GT5 this car was flat out awesome, but the new physics leave it a bit harder to get it just right. Still, when you get it where you want it, you should be more than happy with the result. My 550pp tune was only a tenth slower than my Saleen S7 at Ascari. What can you do with it? 550pp, 600pp, more…..??? Let the tuning and fun begin!

Can you drive the bull into submission or will you get the horns? If you think you have what it takes you’ll definitely want to stop by the thread and post your work!

The Last Lap

This time next week I’ll be stocking up on snacks, ready to watch the 2015 F1 season unfold. Early bets? Nico Rosberg. Why? It’s simple, last season him and Hamilton engaged in a fierce psychological battle which, in my opinion, Rosberg excelled at. So much so that it seemed he had a side to him not many people would have expected, but it would all fall on Hamilton in the very end and I’m of the opinion that Rosberg will want to keep on that path and make sure history doesn’t repeat itself.

Speaking of F1, does anyone know what has happened to The F1 Slate? It hasn’t been updated since, what, 2013? For those not familiar with what I’m talking about, prepare yourself for laughter.

That’s about all out of me for this week’s installment. Until next week, keep racing!

I still am thoroughly unaware of how the lack of content for GT6 is being so easily overlooked. Aside from the coursemaker (of which the arrival is approximately at urban-legend status at this point) there has very little “new” content over GT5. Most of the tracks are still the same. Rehashing old tracks doesn’t cut it. Filling dealers with 20 identical versions of cars isn’t a valid offering. Why aren’t there any new real-world cars? Why do we only keep getting this VGT garbage that can’t be used in competitions and therefore useless? The whole idea seems to have missed the mark (aside from VW and the FT-1 racer that still appear to be rooted in reality). It’s a real shame that the creator of the series has become more engrossed with his own ego than the fans that gave him the fame and money that he has now. And very few people out there seem to give a crap.

Wellcome on the, crowded, train of gripes; as you sure quite know, they are years that a lot of us (GT fans, who bought all versions, despite everything), are saying the same things you said… all completely worthless! You’re right, when you say that Kaz it is no longer interested in a development of the game that make sense; i think that nobody really knows what is in Kaz mind; the PD team simply has reinvented the usual things, with a different “face”, giving us the game as “the new big deal”, and thats it; we can only hope that at a certain time, PD will give us a 1.0 “real race/drive simulator”; maybe “that time” will be GT7? I’m not sure…

I tried the b-spec: like i was intended to demonstrate, it is completely useless and not interesting as well; i tried with a kart race (the 8 laps race in the “international A” license, if i am not wrong), that at the time i tried for the first time revealed quite difficult; with the b-spec it’s completely impossible win the race; it’s almost impossible make a single overtake, indeed; now, with my driving experience very grown up, i won at first attempt…

  2. jdiaz092009

@lambob The b-spec races are located in the career mode. You can choose a race from one of the licenses and it will give you an option whether to do A-spec or B-spec.

T-12 wrote a story about @vasiliflame and his son , but he’s not allowed to post on the news section … that must be a bummer.

    1. Terronium-12

I wasn’t aware of that. It doesn’t change too much of anything though, we can all still share our comments in the thread.

    2. JoaoSilva

yeah , i wasn’t saying it’s wrong , i was just talking to him about it and he says it’s ok. It’s a public forum anyway.

  4. Efiv12

So T12, you think the Merc’s will retain their dominance again this year? I am full of anticipation for the forth coming season. Just love the Pacific rim races, there’s something about getting up at 2a.m. to watch wickedly fast acceleration and cornering.

    1. Terronium-12

I do. While nothing is impossible, I don’t find it likely they’ll fall off the cliff this soon. Especially considering their chassis has always been competitive and just came into its own last season.

And by “own” of course I mean own class. lol

  5. Samsonknight

I’ve always appreciated B-Spec in terms of adding another dynamic to racing but, at the same time, it’s never been one of my favorite features. Though, after reading the section of this post about vasiliflame’s son being able to play GT6, it makes me appreciate B-Spec much more.

    1. Lambob

in all seriousness, I fired up GT6 last night for the 2nd time since 1.16 update, (loving Midfield, learned it pretty nice in less than 5 straight laps), loving the new sense of speed, and improved immersion at the T500 Wheel,

and what I’m about to say is not at all trolling, and you can AMA on this,

where is B-Spec located? I went to all sorts of menu’s and couldn’t figure out how to launch a B-Spec event. couldn’t find it. not kidding.

    2. SVPSkins

@Lambob start a race say for example in super licence races as you would normally and b-spec is an option
