GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: For All the World to See

12295753344_30a45baa8e_o

It seems that with every new month—some could even say every new weekwe’re playing the waiting game until the next big thing comes to Gran Turismo 6, and the aspect itself may have inadvertently become a game within a game to some; being on the lookout for the newest feature or improvement that will further the overall enjoyment of the game itself. It’s devilishly clever and often results in a think-tank of untold proportions.

This month may be an exception to that established rule however, because we all know one of the things that’s on the way for this month’s update to the game and its inclusion will undoubtedly reinvigorate those looking for a change of pace, or in this case, scenery.

The question now becomes “When?”.

Test Your Meddle

GTPlanet Quizzes are returning! I was going to close this week’s Rewind with this bit of news but I figured why not start things off with complete amazement. To be brutally honest, they were supposed to return last month but didn’t because, well, I kept forgetting about them.

The idea is simple: every week there will be a new ‘GTPlanet Quiz of the Week’ that will test your knowledge of Gran Turismo and car culture, but don’t worry because the quizzes themselves won’t be too difficult, at least not at first.

Festivities will begin in the next week or two, but to give you a taste of what’s to come feel free to answer this in the official GTPlanet Weekly Rewind thread.

These two cars, one a Fine Red, the other a glossy orange, are speeding toward the borders in this May 2005 issue of EVO Magazine.

GTPlanet Member of the Week

The prized status and stardom that only the Member of the Week can bring has once again arrived and thus, it is once again time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.

We are once again at the mercy of a Junior member and their wondrous ways of impressing right off the bat, so let’s give a very warm welcome to the newest member to find a vacant apartment in the ever-expanding MotW madhouse, Spacegoat!

The interview is now live and provides the usual share of laughter, but more importantly provides the medium of getting to know your fellow GTP members a little bit better, and his knack for all things related to HRT and V8 Supercars. For the whole kit-n-kaboodble be sure to stop by the official Member of the Week thread.

Anyone you’d like to see recognized as the Member of the Week? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Member of the Week” and fill it out with your choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot nominate yourself.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

11262760385_8fa7cdedca_z

This week’s featured vehicle has been the subject of interest for a while now, and as such was recommended to us by several people, and features the mobile test bed for high-speed safety, the 1970 Mazda RX-500.

Shown off at the 17th Tokyo Motor Show in 1970, the RX-500 turned heads with its captivating futuristic styling. Developed by the research and design staff at the Toyo Kogyo Company, the RX-500 weighed in at 1100 lbs and the entire body was constructed from plastic to keep weight as low as possible.

The RX-500 featured multi-colored lights at the back which indicated whether the car was speeding up, braking, or even running at constant speed; the green lights at the top would illuminate when accelerating, and when you were cruising, the yellow lights would come on and the red brake lights came on progressively depending on how hard you braked.

Following the 1970 show, the car was packed away and nearly forgotten until it was found in relatively poor condition in 2008. It has since been fully restored to its former glory.

It had long been believed that three RX-500s were made – one green, one yellow and one silver. However during its restoration, while working on a door, someone spotted three different colored layers of paint, which proved there had only ever been one. It was shown again to the public at the 2008 Tokyo motor show.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

11493524173_7d3ceb4d76_z

This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by tuning aficionado danbojte and courtesy of SolidSnake7735 of TheCardboardBox tuning garage, features the 1991 éfini Mazda RX-7 Type R.

Conquer the mountain pass roads in this lightly modified yet competitively tuned FD. A strong contender on the uphill, you’ll give 4WD a run for their money… provided you caress the throttle and avoid getting sucked in by the walls.

Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after and you want to do so using the Rotary Rocket, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself – and remember, Clueless, over The Hill Outlaws have been featured in the space for the past three weeks now so congratulations guys!

Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

apmcheader_009

We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.

In Week 9 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 009, Standard: Smoke Get in Your Eyes – “A big bug-bear for me and most people from GT5 was the dreaded “jaggies” from the in game particulates such as tyre smoke, dirt and spray…but now in GT6…with a few exceptions.. they are virtually a thing of the past (woo-hoo). So just take any car to any track and let the rubber burn loose, light ’em up. Drifts, burnouts, doughnuts, handbrake turns etc, etc are all acceptable but try to ‘cloud’ those cars up (cloudier the better) and keep it on a Dry track ….lay some “marbles” down on the tarmac and have some fun while doing it”

Week 009, Advanced 2.0: Four Lights! – “It´s simple, only four lights… any car, any object, anything! But the focus must be on these four lights! Why? Because most of the very famous and brilliant cars had four lights either on the front or at the end.

Be creative and have fun!”

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

Closing Thoughts

Well this space was originally reserved for news regarding the return of GTPlanet’s Quizzes, but since that was shifted around I’ve left myself with nary a thing to say, so, I’m going to disappear now.

Until next week, keep racing!
