Forza Motorsport 6 is, quite comfortably, the biggest current-generation console racing game in terms of cars and tracks. Launching with over 460 cars, that number has swollen by over 100 through a combination of free and paid addition (okay, mostly the latter). Most recently, a Hot Wheels-sponsored pack brought some new toys, while a leak about a potential NASCAR expansion could see the vehicle count crest the 600 mark.
So why are cars being secretly added, then?
April had the Top Gear Car Pack, where eagle-eyed viewers caught the distinctive headlight pattern of the 2008 Ferrari California. Ferrari’s “softer” offering, it has appeared regularly in the franchise since Forza Motorsport 3, but was supplanted in this title by the newer turbocharged model. With the most recent update, the Ford Escort RS1600 has popped up in the list of vehicles players can tag Photomode images with. While a modified version of this car appears in the Fast & Furious DLC, this stock model has never featured in the title (or franchise) before.
The bad news: unlike the 1966 Silvia (which was snuck into the game in December), neither the California nor Escort can be driven by players, at least not currently. GTPlanet member RandomCarGuy17 has shared a method for racing against them, however: a private online match against the AI can be tailored to a single model. Selecting either of these cars forces the field to adopt them, even after the restriction is then removed (as the player can’t own either). That’s how we’ve managed to capture them here.
The question on many players minds: what are Turn 10’s plans with these secret vehicles? If they were meant to be Unicorns, why have they been kept in the dark since the Lamborghini events wrapped up?
Complicating the matter is how inconsistent the situation has been with Forza 6 bonus cars. Free cars accompanied the October and November updates, but things changed in December, with the pert, little, afore-mentioned first-generation Nissan Silvia. Players could only find the car through a particular career route, a route that was patched out the following month, without any official comment from Turn 10.
Perhaps it was a planned Unicorn. January saw the return of these mystical beasts, with the Ferrari 312 P being gifted out to those finishing in the top half of the weekly Leagues. February? An Aston Martin V8 Vantage graced a few hundred players’ garages after T10’s resident hot-shoe RBW Triton set a hard target as Community Bounty Hunter. March’s Huracán Super Trofeo was comparatively simple: if you could manage a clean lap, three times, the car was yours.
Since then, there has been no comment from Turn 10 about the Silvia, California, nor Escort. Similarly, nothing has been said about additional ways for players to obtain the 312 P, V8 Vantage, or Huracán racer. With E3 right around the corner, we hope the mystery of these vehicles is solved soon.
I always hated the unicorn car concept. I only had a few, so I walked away from each Forza iteration with little or no unicorns. Wasn’t real happy, but I won’t play Forza anymore for this and a multitude of other reasons.
Ferrari & Ford Found in Forza ( Quad F )
Just couldn’t hold it on mentioning it X)
Kinda reminds me of tongue twister X)
As Joker would say: All part of the plan!
And you think Kaz or PD are mysteries? Bring on Turn 10. I can’t see these guys being such awesome unicorns, when better models are available, and I’d think only the most hardcore classic car guys would get bothered over the Silvia. And they couldn’t possibly be data leaks from Horizon 3… could they? Viral digital marketing??
So why are these hidden cars lurking in the F6 bit bin? Where are Skuller and Moldy? Not that I care, haven’t touched F6 in ages, but I like to stir the pot of thought occasionally.
I suppose these are quite literally “the Xbox-files” :)
This whole unicorn thing stinks. The method to win them is fun and brings the community together, but I would just rather them do away with them to be honest. They initially mentioned that the certain unicorns will be up for grabs in months to come, but nothing has been mentioned about the first Ferrari, and nothing has popped up since the Lambo Huracan. It’s likely these next two will be an event in the following months, and I wouldn’t mind the Escort, but it’s just not my cup of tea the way these are panning out.
I feel the same way ImaRobot
I wouldn’t have a problem if the cars were just special varients of the cars, or special liveries that indicate you were in the top 100 of an event or something, but locking off cars is a pain in the arse and it upsets me since even if you were in the top 100 which isn’t impossible, it’s only given out to random people, if it was an easier target and everyone that reached that target would get the car I would be fine with it, but oh well.
