New Cars, Bikes, and Drift Mode Tweaks Coming This Month to Driveclub

March has already been a busy month for numerous racing titles. Unwilling to simply idle along, the folks at Evolution have loosened the taps on the drip-feed of information for this month’s Driveclub update.

The big news is a complete leaderboard wipe for the game’s Drift mode. Evo has found the current mode exploitable, which makes this pill slightly easier to swallow. In addition, the scoring mechanics will be changing for those that like to dabble in the art of opposite lock. Finally, tweaked implementation of the penalty system should ideally level the playing field for all drivers moving forward.

Game Director Paul Rustchynsky took to Twitter to respond to numerous players’ comments about the update, confirming the leaderboard wipe only applies to Drift Mode. “Rushy” also let slip that players will have a whole heap of new levels to achieve, with 35 being added to the Club Level total, and 25 each for Driver and Elite.

Lastly, after teasing that “something” will be free in the next update, Rustchynsky hinted that one of the four-wheeled additions certainly won’t hang around:

Could it be the accidentally-leaked Regera? We won’t have long to wait…

Head on over to our Driveclub forum to join in the excitement!

I can’t wait for the XJ220. Such an awesome car and it’s rare seeing it in racing games. The Regera seems hella lame. isn’t it an electric car? I HATE electric cars. Not only do they sound like trash but no gears makes it frustrating as well. Wish electric cars would just die. The sound of an engine, and shifting gears are such a key part of automotive passion. I don’t get how anyone can like electric cars

Thank you for that pointless sarcastic reply Kyle. There’s a reason I put a question mark about it being an electric car but I guess you must’ve missed that.

It does have one gear and electric propulsion.

Tom, are you trolling or did you just wake up from being in a coma for 20 years? Regera is a hybrid electric with a V8 that produces about 1000. It doesn’t have “gears”, it’s all one gear. As for electric cars going away, google global warming, limited fossil fuels, and alternative energy, you might learn something.

Evo did a wonderful job with the Regera. I expected it to be brutal, but it’s a comfortable and pleasant car to drive. Once you surpass 100 MPH, that’s when this car truly shows it’s might. You need to experience this car for yourself.

Drift Mode changes found: Going too slow or hitting a wall will penalize you.

I swear, this game itches to give a penalty to players all the time.

    1. MeanElf

And hitting a wall is normal? The penalties are there to stop misuse of the drift ‘methods’ in use previously.

Not entirely sure what you are saying there – there again, I’m not actually bothered. At least I know I can play the game cleanly fella.

      @MeanElf

I would also like to know what it means to be labeled as a ‘sheep’. Sheeps (yes, this should be a word) produce wool and lamb is delicious, but that’s about all I know.

The new car DLC according to Evolution would be called “Finish Line” and the Koenigsegg Regera is confirmed for it (meaning that the sounds were recorded for Driveclub although GT Sport or GT7 could have the Regera somehow, although it’s unconfirmed and not yet sure) and the Jaguar XJ220. Just recently saw it on their Facebook page.

Update just downloaded, so let’s see what we can see. One of the forum members has found that the Regara is already playable in a Dowforce tour event.

Is the AI still a bunch of drunk derby drivers in this game? Or did they improve?

Also, what are they gonna do with the penalties? Are they going to ramp ’em up into more severity?

I can’t stand being full-force slammed by AI and being the one who pays for it.

I’m ready to try this game again, I guess.

    1. TomBrady

You must be playing a different game. The AI never hits me and they’re some of the best to race with in any racing game.
