These 3 Porsches Are Coming to Assetto Corsa For Free in 2016

Earlier this year, we reported that Assetto Corsa on PC and console would be seeing Porsche enter the car roster through DLC. Although the majority of the 24 vehicles being added will be premium DLC at a cost, three of the German manufacturer’s finest will be playable for free as confirmed by Kunos’ Marco Massarutto on Twitter:

The three cars in question occupy the SUV and sports saloon space and will provide a good bit of variation on the currently performance-heavy roster of Assetto Corsa. Combined with the recent Maserati Levante reveal, it shows an ambition to highlight the title’s physics on cars that haven’t been built to dominate on the race track. For the three Porsches, it will be the 2016 models’ digital debuts.

The release window for the DLC has been called into question recently with the initial September release looking increasingly unlikely and a recent Facebook post from Marco specifying the cars will drop in October instead. Regardless, it seems the expansion is on the horizon — including the three ‘bonus’ vehicles players can download for no cost.

In regard to what should be expected from these cars, the Cayenne is the staple in Porsche’s SUV line-up and has been around for more than a decade. Although the Macan has been cited as being a bit more fun to drive, the Cayenne is still very relevant thanks to its history. The Panamera’s unique styling makes it a ‘love or hate’ model for Porsche and has its detractors alongside its fans. It’ll make a good addition in AC given the lack of super-sedan competition it currently has in the car list.

Curiously, Marco specifically mentioned all three cars were the 2016 editions, while an earlier teaser showed the 2017 model year Panamera. Could two versions of the Porsche limo therefore be joining the lineup? We shall see.

With the recent PS4 console update and the Porsche DLC expansion, Assetto Corsa continues to build on it’s foundations to offer loyal players a reason to keep coming back. We hope that an official announcement is made soon on when racers can expect to get their hands on some German horsepower.

That’s not what i meant. I’m talking about all those non trully sports cars not that good to race with that GT is fertile on.

Question… who the heck wants to race a Cayenne, a Macan or even a Panamera???
Could you please send some freaking 911’s, Cayman GT4 or the 919 Hybrid??? Because these, are RACING CARS.

This is too funny so I had to share, courtesy of Marco:

Imagine you get into a mall to buy a pair of Lee jeans, and when you go for the check out, the guy at desk tells you “I’m glad to tell you that, since you have purchased this product, you will get this t-shirt for free, offered by Lee”.

What do you will answer? Some options:

      – I didn’t ask for it, just give me my jeans
      – I don’t like this t-shirt, I’m not going to wear it
      – What are you trying to do? To fill my closet with useless stuff?!
      – I’ve a t-shirt already, I don’t need this so-called gift
      – Let’s do this: give me the jeans for free and keep the t-shirt for you
      – If I was interested to a t-shirt, I would have purchased it
      – What a waste of time and money, tell Lee to give me a 100$ jacket for free instead
      – I’m here for the jeans and you give me a free t-shirt? Shame on you
      – So, now Lee gives stuff for free to let me have a taste of it? Shame on them

Sounds weird? Not to some simracers. Sad, but true.

      Me.

Additionally (and at the risk of being yelled at by people who love Porsche a bit too much =) I have any number of Lotus Exiges and Evoras to choose from in AC already, so why is it that I would need a Cayman GT4 since I have plenty of small, nimble, mid-engine cars to choose from? If they put the 919 Hybrid in, what would I race it against exactly since there are no other LMP1-H cars available on consoles? And finally, when you say ‘some freaking 911’s’ which ones exactly do you mean? Carrera 2, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S…?

My point is this: It’s exceedingly easy to come up with a reason why you don’t agree with someone else’s choice, I mean I just did it, so I would know. Instead, be grateful and just enjoy the free stuff. People dedicate their livelihoods so that we can play a game/sim, so maybe show some respect.

      @Johnnypenso – Good list there!

And me! I’m very curious about how the Cayenne and the Panamera handle in Nurburgring. Specially the Panamera since the only experience I could have with it was in NFS Hot Pursuit 2010, meh. Any road car with authentic physics are more than welcome to me!

“Curiously, Marco specifically mentioned all three cars were the 2016 editions, while an earlier teaser showed the 2017 model year Panamera. Could two versions of the Porsche limo therefore be joining the lineup? We shall see.”

We’re simply working off the info Marco himself posted.

As I said in another comment, in Europe the new Panamera is referred to as the 2016 Panamera. Model years aren’t always used in Europe and as the new car debuted and will go into production this fall (both 2016), it’s referred to as a 2016.

      See: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche/panamera/90131/new-porsche-panamera-2016-price-pics-and-release-date

As Kunos are based in Europe, it’s pretty clear what car they are referring to when they say “2016 models”. If you hold out hope for the old model, you’ll likely be disappointed.

    1. ALB123

Unusable? Perhaps for console players. As a PC Assetto Corsa player I have such a wide variety of great dirt/rally tracks installed that the SUV’s will be extremely useful. However, you are correct in the sense that many people will be uninterested in vehicles like these three. That’s probably why Kunos decided to give them away for free, so no one felt “ripped off” if they were included in a paid-for DLC pack. There are still 21 other Porsche’s coming in the DLC packs that are strictly street sports cars or race cars.

    2. Johnnypenso

An odd comment considering this entire forum was built around a game that was chock full of these “unusable” vehicles.

  2. SagarisGTB

The new Panamera is often referred to as the 2016 Panamera in Europe, so they’re referring to the new one only. I doubt they are planning to include the old one.

  3. Johnnypenso

The Levante has suprised a lot of people with its excellent handling and fun to drive physics and I expect the Cayenne will be no different. Anyone that is a fan of street cars, and many are with this game, should enjoy the variety on offer, free or paid.

  4. dacc10

They are smart though. The Porsches nobody really cares about, are free, the ones people want, are paid. Good strategy, I’ll give them that.
