As you may know, Polyphony Digital publishes the sales figures of each Gran Turismo game on their website, and they just updated the numbers for Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.  In the last four months (going by the numbers from May), the game has sold approximately 700,000 copies, bringing the total to nearly 4,000,000.  No doubt, the Greatest Hits price drop helped drive retail sales, despite the fact that prices  on eBay.  Regardless, this is an impressive milestone for a “small” game – and one which will, no doubt, pour fuel on the the fire of the endless GT / Forza debate…

  3. Alan Says:

Still waiting for a GT5 release date, tick tock tick tock tick tock

  4. GTMad Says:

Amazing! I remember so many people calling this a ‘demo’ and somewhat average release, how wrong they were. Great achievement for PD and Sony, the sales for GT5 are going to be incredible.

  5. James Says:

Sweet, GT5P, a “demo” in the eyes of many fanboys and GT haters, is now the best-selling PS3 title.

Can’t wait for the full game.

  6. Mustangmiha Says:

Yeah, really amazing for a demo game.

  7. GranT Says:

I cant wait to play the full version

  8. tel151 Says:

lol i paid £300 to play GT5 Prologue but, god dam it was worth every penny

one of the reasons i brought a ps3 was to play gtp & gt5 (some day) this year :-)

second reason was the g25 wheel being compatible otherwise i would still own my 360 and be playing forza on the pad,

  9. Canadian STIG Says:

A demo which outsells its full version competitors. Remarkable, absolutely incredible.

  10. zoffdino Says:

This is amazing number for a “demo,” as many people will put it. Metal Gear Solid 4, undoubtedly one of the best games for PlayStation 3, only sold 4.75M copies since release (Wikipedia).

  11. Tenacious D Says:

Wow… can’t say it any better than Canadian STIG.

I spent more than $800 just to play Foza 2, and I can’t say that was money well spent, especially when everything broke in two months, and I intended to get the PS3 first! GT5 however… worth whatever it costs.

  12. RazDaz Says:

Why does it feel like GT5 will never come out?

  13. ICANT55 Says:

I hope pd isnt bullsh*tn this time Game stop has a release date for FEB 2 2010 !!!! PD STICK TO IT THIS TIME WE WANNA PLAY THE FULL VERSION!!! DROWNING IN DROOL HERE!!!

  15. nick Says:

    i want updates

  16. yeti Says:

Does this include copies of the game that came with PS3’s?

This is how I got mine – but I would’ve bought it otherwise – it was a bonus!

  20. marf Says:

have nearly 4m copies been sold, or have nearly 4m copies been shipped by Sony?

  21. nicky-b Says:

Sony won’t give the release date of gran turismo 5 at the Gamescom :-(((((((((

  22. Jack_uk Says:

^^ what makes you say that? ^^

  23. rand al thor Says:

    hahahaha

a so called demo outsold forza 2. shit. i think they better jump out the building when Gt 5 launches. hehehe

  24. the_stig Says:

And what if GT5 doesn’t come out to be as good as everybody expected ? I mean, we have all the circumstances we need to make it suck.
1st, it will SUCK if it only has damage on the rally cars.
2nd, it will SUCK, if it will have dropped frame rate to enhance the real-time graphics.
3rd, it is now delayed because of the psp, which will inevitably screw up the quality.
4th, it will SUCK, if it will only have an upgrading system for the cars and more cars in general, it WILL SUCK.

  25. FM Says:

    You suck to

  26. GAminh Says:

Gt5 dont suck but you suck cars

  27. Aido Says:

If GT can sell 4 million copies with just the Prologue version of the game, and considering all the new features being added to the final game and some yet to be, imagine how many copies will PD sell with GT5! Can’t wait to get my hands on the full game, hope not too long now…

  28. SIM-GT Says:

ps3 has power to create realistic sim imagine ps4 what they can do photo realistic sim

hopefully gt5 ps3 power will have all the features with a good 60fps 1080p

Good shadows textures , weather day night races, damage, 60fps , 1080p, and the same quality of gt5p or beter , THEN THIS WILL BE THE BEST RACE DRIVING SIMULATION GAME EVER

  29. snicker3s Says:

    @the_stig

If those are the reasons why gt5 would suck I think we are pretty safe

1)Gt never needed damage to be great, so if its present (even only partly) that is a bonus
2)If there is one thing that has never been an issue with PD it is framerate, Gt1 up to Gt5p all smooth as silk:)
3)So what you are saying is that PD releases games too fast and does not take enough time to ensure quality??? Ehrm,… that is so not true.
4)I did not understand that sentence so it can not be a reason for sucking

    Pretty safe indeed.

  30. John Says:

I am fine with PD taking time to get this out because this will pretty much force me to buy a PS3 to play and the longer I wait the more chance a better deal on a PS3 comes along :)

  31. JDigital Says:

    @John

A deal on the ps3 is coming a lot sooner than you think. retailers are drying up… this usually happens before a new sku or a new product. Rumor is Slim ps3… now I know thats a rumor but it is a hard FACT that retailers aren’t getting more shipments of ps3s (at least in the USA)… you tell me why Sony would not want more ps3’s sitting on retail shelves…

Something is about to happen very soon… I’m talking a week or two.

  32. Freddro Says:

If they don’t release the date for GT5 at Gamescom August 18th, I pretty much lost all hope for a release this year.

  33. TMag Says:

    WE NEED MORE GT5 UPDATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. John Says:

Jdigital I hope something new and big comes along… PS3 slim could be cool but I would be worried about whats left out of it…

I would love a price drop too but I would think it’s a new hot sku at the same price is more likely.

I usually think an aritificial stock shortage is prep for holiday sales but it’s a bit early for that…

  35. yeahyeah Says:

I can’t wait for full version of gt5.
I’m 30, play video games for 20 years and it’s propably my most anticipated game ever.

Gran Turismo games are like religion for me. Finished 100% all of them.

  36. RAugie Says:

This just goes to show you how well the guys at polyphony have thought this whole thing out

Prologue is only a “demo” and it sells 4 mil. big revenue source and creates a whole lot of hype for the real game

PSP version will be great, they were smart to release the date fairly early for it. But, they were careful as to not release the date for GT5 as to not steal the fire from the release of PSP version

once the hype goes down from the psp version they release the date for GT5

-it all in the name of maximizing profit…..

  37. yeahyeah Says:

Yeah. It’s crazy. I buying PSP only for Gran Turismo.

  38. xanavi Says:

@snicker3s The last one was, just engine tuning, and no body modifications. Like no spoiler,s and carrossorie changes.

  39. snicker3s Says:

    @ xanavi
    Thanks for the clarification :)

We’ll probably get spoilers I think(like in gt4, any info on this??)

As for non-performance tuning: I just don’t feel the need to hang dice on the rear view mirror of my Ferrari F40:).

  40. GT-for-ever Says:

pd need time to compleet the game in detail Q1 2010 in mean time whe can play gt mobile dirt 2 i hope there is some new info or videos at gamescone or tgs
