Euro Gamer report on PD Backstage at E3

I'm finding it hard to believe that PD would model cockpits for those cars...I mean the Ford Model T? The Ford XR8 Race Car, Nike One, Jay Leno's Tank Car, Isuzu 177 Coupe, the Cizeta Moroder?? Hmmm...as much as I hope that there will be cockpits for every car, I just can't see PD getting these cars to model them. Take a look at the GT4 car list...

I want final clarification ASAP as well although this issue seems strangely unanswerable although it seems to be quite easy to confirm and explain either way if you'd asked me ( apart form "translation" factors, which are also inexusable in this day and age IMO ).
But it is what it is right now and I guess we'll know much more soon with a GTP representative at E3 knowing which questions we'd like to see answered or confirmed ( and can hopefully provide, wish him all the luck finding the answers ).

As for modelling those rare cars for interiors, I would guess PD already took all the data they could get ( including interiors for future releases ) whilst working on GT4 on those rare occassions these cars became available for them to model.
Thinking ahead is something not lost on a clever company like PD, this is the least of my worries anyway.
The only problem might be the time needed to put all that data into game models which I really hope they've achieved in all those years.
Someone else mentioned a few days ago those interiors were already present in all the cars in GT4 ( although disabled to function as cockpit view due to the limitations of the PS2 ).
Let's just hope all cars will have at least the Prologue viewpoints and the Premium ones something extra.:)

Really?

Looks pretty detailed to me, they even modeled parts you can't see in the cockpit view.

The question is whether or not that counts as a "premium" model, and if it does, what do the "standard" models look like.

Hopefully we'll get this cleared up soon.

classic=standard (the standard ones are cars from older GT's so it confirms cockpit view for 950+ cars :))

EDIT: Why would a Suzuki Cappucino be premium :P

That is precisely the argument I defend the most. Let's take a moment to think about this.

You are going to have 1000 cars in your game. However due to time constraints you cannot achieve the same level of detail for all of them. So you do a compromise, you select 200 out of those 1000 to make more detailed and extra special.

Now which cars would you choose to make part of this elite group of 200? Obviously the most desired, most popular, most high-performing cars in your list.

We know that, according to the EuroGamer article (likely mistranslated), premium cars are the only ones that will have cockpit view. We know for a quite a while that all cars from GT5 Prologue will be included in GT5, and we also know that all cars in GT5P have cockpit view. So going by this logic, we can say that all cars in GT5P are premium models. This means, of course, that all cars in GT5P must be among the most desired, most popular and most powerful cars in the world, right?

Here is where we have our problem, because in that list are cars like the Suzuki Cervo SR and the Daihatsu Copen. Now I'm not exactly a car expert in the technical department but I do believe those cars are not exactly the type of "top of the line, exotic, fast" sports car you drool over in a dealership.

Anyway, my point is that, I can perfectly understand why you would want to make a Pagani Zonda F, a Ferrari Enzo or a Bugatti Veyron premium, but why on Earth would you want to pick the grey, slow, lumbering box that is the Cervo to join those other cars when you have hundreds of better choices to fill the limited quota of 200 models? Putting the Suzuki or the Daihatsu in such a unique group would be a waste of space :yuck:.

It doesn't matter, when you think about it, suppose that was a car that wasn't a premium model, what would you see inside the car? They would have to black out the windows.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that all cars will have cockpit views, don't forget, all 70 odd cars in Prologue look like this in the replays.

The Eurogamer article answered the interior question very clearly! There is no interior view on the standard cars. The article states " standard cars won't have interiors, which is a bit sad, but there are, like, 800 of them"....the only question left is why do so many people on this forum refuse to believe the facts?

Yes, it has taken over half a decade to make this game and I can see why you would expect PD to provide interiors on all cars but it isn't going to happen for 1000 cars. Only 200. All the signals have pointed to this from the beginning--particularly the stated amount of time it takes to model each car.

GT5 will be a great game. But it is not the be all and end all of racing/driving games. It has its clear strengths and some clear weaknesses too. The 200 interiors will look much better than Forza's 400+ but there will be fewer of them. Only NFS Shift running on a high end PC has interiors that equal or better GT5s and Shift has less than 100 cars.

While it is nice for the supercars to have interior models. A broad spectrum covering all classes should be used.

Not everyone likes to drive the supercars all the time.

I'm not sure I completely believe everything in here, in one part it mentions crashing your Porsche which I'm pretty sure isn't in GT5

Yeah who cares really, the best cars are going to have interior, I possibly wont use interior much, and they delivered on everything else at e3.

Roll on November

You have a point here, making me feel somewhat better, but I still won't feel 100% until there is confirmation

Prologue had to have interior on all cars. It also had to have some not-so-exciting cars, the Suzuki Cappucino for example. So the Cappucino happens to have the interior in GT5 too. This is not the case with the other not-so-exciting cars, that weren't in Prologue.

I care, and what the hell are "the best cars"?
I rather drive a Silvia S13 than a Zonda in Gran Turismo.

I would assume the interior means things like the engine bay and you can open the bonnet (hood), ie completely modeled cars.

I would be disappointed if only 200 cars have cockpit view and the rest are merely shells upscaled from GT4/PSP. That leaves a lot of cars that I've been looking forward to not being up to GT5P/GT5 standard after all this time.

Care to explain why it HAD to have them? And why GT5 doesn't?

I agree with G.T.Ace, I won't be driving supercars all the time, most of the time I'll be driving normal affordable cars and my beloved FC RX-7 and would love to see the old school cockpits.

In my opinion, that Eurogamer report was pretty poor. It’s obvious that the writer isn’t very familiar with the GT series, and ended up writing a bunch of misleading comments.

I cannot believe this interior view debate is still going on.
All cars will have cockpit view, aside from cars like the GT-R Prototype.

I found that article a but wrong. As if someone who had never heard of GT was writing it. They made a few mistakes. Such as referring to a Porsche when trying to screw up your opponent online, even though we know GT5 won't have Porsche. They also said GT5 will have 9 NASCAR drivers. However, we've all seen 11 NASCAR drivers, with many more to come as new teams have signed on. They also said 800 cars won't have cockpit views, which I find very hard to believe. I think a translation issue may have led them to that conclusion, and the real answer was, "200 cars will have cockpit damage", which would make a lot more sense.

And not every desirable car is a "super" car.

I'm really looking forward to using the American Muscle cars, it would be a shame to not have the cockpit though.

Premium are the cars built from the ground up for GT5, that's why they sport so much detail. The other 800 or so cars were basically hold overs from the other GT games and the information taking during the making of those games was used to create the half a million plus polygon models, just don't have full interiors. They should have at least the forward facing and passenger compartment modeled for the older cars modeled as I prefer to drive from the cockpit, but can't get everything you want. Won't stop me from tearing into you guys online, prepare to eat my dust.

In prologue 5 the cars had full interiors including the rear seat(if the car had one) and when you hit the rear view you were treated to an over the shoulder view of your car from the interior looking out(sweet). FM3 doesn't even have that much with any of it's 400 cars.

Seriously I hope that all cars have interiors, and just 200 will have interior damage as said last year by PD. I want to see from inside the car, only a few motors have severly cramped interiors, like the Ford GT, but still it just looks ace and feel immersive.

Care to explain why it HAD to have them? And why GT5 doesn't?

That's a silly question. Of course Prologue had to have interior on all cars. It was made to promote GT5 as well as it ever could. And not having interior on all cars would've been just utterly stupid and half-assed. However, GT5, as much as I would like it to, doesn't have to have and basically can't have interior on all cars. There are just too many of them.

I think it is and always has been clear- cars that were modeled for GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 will not have interiors. PD did not anticiapte modeling inetriors at the time and it would be silly to go back to each and every one of those exact cars that were modeled for exterior to now get interior modeling.

Everything modeled for and after GT5P will have interiors. That means every '08, '09, '10 model will have interiors. Premium doesn't mean that the car is an exotic or badass car, it just means that it was modeled in more detail after PD knew the direction they would be heading towards as far as damage, rollovers, interior view, etc. End of story.

Why wouldn't the Prototype have a cockpit view? if all other 999 cars have cockpit view and that doesn't wouldn't it be weird, how would the replays look?? This is what's confusing me about all this.

And to the last poster, sorry I didn't mean every car is a super car but you know what I meant, I'd also love to see the cockpit view in a classic muscle car!

This. It's insane

All cars will have cockpit view. What they mean by "only 200 will have interiors" is NOT interior as in cockpit, it's interior as in chassis, engine, panels, all that stuff. I know it's confusing, but things have been lost in translation in the past.

Also, why is everyone treating this article like they are? "Look - it says it in this random article, not affiliated in any way with PD. That means it WILL happen! Whatever this article says is pure fact!"

I'll believe it only when I hear it from PD themselves.

I don't want to see a black outline for 800 cars:grumpy:

Highly doubt it, i think they mean under the panels interior, not cockpit interior.

Think of Prologue, all cars had cockpit view and full interiors, and we have seen screens of the Fiat 500 cockpit.
