Gran Turismo 6 to Feature at Jalopnik Film Festival

jalopnik-film-festival

Jalopnik is hosting a “film festival” in New York City on September 18th and 19th, and Gran Turismo 6 is the title sponsor for the event.

The festival promises to be “the biggest meeting of film and car culture in modern history,” with the first public screening of Oscar-winning director Ron Howard’s new film, Rush, along with screenings of other popular car movies, new and old.

GT6 will also be prominently featured (and playable) at the event, and Jalopnik’s announcement hints at “great access to the game and its creators”.

Tickets will be available in limited quantities to the public at a later date, so keep an eye out for more announcements if you’d like to attend.

The timing of the festival coincides with the Tokyo Game Show, which should see the release of another large round of information on GT6, so this is likely an event that GTPlanet readers will not want to miss! Stay tuned.

I love Jalopnik because the community are honest car enthusiast; they love Miatas, Austin Healey Sprites, Abarth 500s, any RWD wagon with manual and stuff. I hope with this event PD will listen to Jalopnik community too because they know every great driver’s car that would be great for the game.

Off topic: I really hope most of the tracks that were in the previous iterations of GT eventually return with the enhanced graphics of the PS3 or PS4 (Seattle, Hong Kong, El Capitan, Complex String, SSR11, etc.). I don’t know why that would be so cool to me.

On topic: I am really looking forward to what’s in store for this event and TGS about GT6. Hopefully some sound samples and gameplay news :)

My love for cars is what got me hooked on GT 12yrs ago. This film festival is going to be another calibration of cars. Any GT fan near has to be in attendance. GT-Jalopnik-Ron Howard it doesn’t get much better.

Completely off topic, but does anyone know if the gamestop pre order is automatically upgraded to tue 15th anniv. Edition or am i screwed over to the original pre order from gamestop that has 20 cars with no 15th anniv. Liveries

    1. Pit Crew

A short Quote: More details have been released on the 15th Anniversary Edition of Gran Turismo 6, which is available as an automatic upgrade when you pre-order the game from GameStop.

    2. Mr C5 Z06 Vette

So you are saying that i can just ask for the upgrade by calling the store where i pre prdered the game at?

    3. Pit Crew

To be on the safe side, and for peace of mind I would call them to be sure, but IMO, I think you’re good to go. Relax and enjoy your Holiday weekend bro. :)

    4. Mr C5 Z06 Vette

Ya thanks I’ve been hung up on this for far too long and its driving me absolutely mental. Im gonna be on the safe side and call tomorrow to regain my sanity. Thanks again.

I pre-ordered my copy today from EB Games (the Australian subsidiary of Gamestop) and was told (and shown) that there are only 20 cars but with the 15th Anniversary liveries and enhancements! There is also one million credits, a steel box and a copy of ApexII.

And I’m being seriously ripped off too – $115!

    6. Mr C5 Z06 Vette

Ya i got mine at eb games here in canada but like last month and online it said 20 cars, beyond the apex 2 and i think 1million cr but the cars were different cars than the ones in the new Anniversary bonus. In other words i think i ordered to early and i am missing out on the r18 (i love that car ) and the rest of the special livery cars.

So, Sony is sponsoring movie releases now? We’re going to pay for this, dearly.

Oh well, hope, at least, we get a FULL grid of 70s F1 cars. Some of the most beautiful racing machines ever. PD and Kaz did a marvelous job with Ayrton Senna’s cars in GT3 and 4 and Michael Schumacher’s Ferraris in 5, so it would seem that F1 is going to be a mainstay for the GT series.

Versus is the name of the game in racing, so please be sure, Kaz, that we get some kind of alternative to rival the “featured” car. A FULL grid would be wonderful, preferably in GT guise though ;)

    1. Pit Crew

A short Quote: Throughout the years, SPE has produced, distributed, or co-distributed successful franchises such as Men in Black, Underworld, and Resident Evil[6] Obviously SONY is no stranger to theatrical productions.

*Jalopnik is hosting a “film festival” in New York City on September 18th and 19th, and Gran Turismo 6 is the title sponsor for the event.*

Sennas cars only appeared in GT3.

    2. infamousphil

My bad guys… the gray matter is failing.

      GT3 – Senna’s cars,
      GT4 – Damon Hill’s cars and
      GT5 – Felipe/Kimi and ???

      LOL… what was I sayin? ;)

    3. DYLAN777-is-not

Were going to pay for it and pay for it dearly. Bwahhhhhhhh hahahaha. Youre one of those people where its either a flat out sunny clear day or a full on huricane, there is no light clouds with soft rain its either a huricane or a summer sunny day. Overdone or underdone, hopefully you dont cook..

I heard that Ben Affleck is going to make some announcement about the GT Movie. When did Kaz get him involved?

    1. Swagger897

I have a feeling that this quantum leap thing is to get out of the gran turismo shell and go to the actual manufacturers and say: “we want your products in our game for this price” (it might not sound how im thinking of it when said like that…) but the point is with all this new stuff that isnt JDM and imports and all, they are expanding the horizons to see what else is there by listening to the consumers..

    1. Swagger897

Haa.. thats like a joke.. thats no different to saying need for speed is better than iRacing with its physics.. (not crash physics)

  6. GTguy88

I’ve never been to E3 or Gamescom or TGS or anything like it…and I live in NYC…so I would really love to go to this.

  7. vr6cas

Youtube Touriclips. Some of the best sights and sounds of the nurburgring videos ive seen. And what make them so great is that there is no music to cover up those sounds. Take note kaz!

    1. ScotteDawg

And why should Kaz take note? He was not the one who put together the videos we saw a couple of posts ago of the cars at Willow Springs! Polyphony Digital had nothing to do with them at all except that they made the game that was recorded on someone’s phone!

    2. ScotteDawg

Unless you’re talking about the Acura concept clip that was released with that Nero dubstep song. That was a promo clip for one car and it was all done the way promo clips are done!

    3. vr6cas

Think about it ScotteDogg, he needs to show a trailer without some of the music in the background to showoff some of the car sounds, while I was watching some of those videos on you tube, I was thinking how messed up it would be if there was music playing in the background. All you hear is tires, exhaust, front fenders scraping, and anything from four bangers to v12s!

    4. Swagger897

um.. if you watch the spec 2.0 trailer before the gt mode starts up, the do this.. it not new

at the nurb with a merc sls amg and the ford GT.. nascar at daytona, rome with the thing that i forgot..
its not new so dont get your panties wet yet.. plus, im quite sure a bunch of paid employees can do the same thing that steve mcqueen did 40 years ago..

  8. RACECAR

Gran Turismo 6 AND a premier screening of Rush, there’s almost no excuse to go to this event for a Racing fan.

    1. RACECAR

      Desregard, meant to say:

“Gran Turismo 6 AND a premier screening of Rush, there’s almost no excuse not to go to this event for a Racing fan”

  9. Gunma36

I would just beg PD to feature classic F1…Forza5 will feature ’76 Lauda’s Ferrari 312T4 and Hunt’s McLaren M23…Legend cars. But anyways, can’t wait for december 6th!

  10. Johnnypenso

I’m old enough to remember seeing James Hunt live at the 77 Canadian GP and getting into a dustup with an official after a shunt with a team mate…lol. He walked back to the pits inside the barriers and got fined. Hunt vs. Lauda was one of the great motorsport rivalries but all too brief. Really looking forward to Rush!!

    1. JohnScoonsBeard

I am looking forward to the film but from what I understand the film pits them not as friends which in fact they were, even sharing a flat at one point. I guess that’s the Hollywood tinsel for you.

    1. ScotteDawg

There is the possibility that the New York track might make a comeback as DLC, as well as Seoul and Hong Kong and the other tracks from the older games in the GT series!
      So, +1…

    2. SZRT Ice

If they’re going to do a (new) NY track, it should definitely include either the West Side Highway, FDR Drive, George Washington Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, or a combination of a few with multiple layouts. Google/YouTube them and you’ll likely agree.
