GT6 Online Service Maintenance Scheduled for September 30th

gt6_update_20150930

Gran Turismo 6 has been relatively untouched recently, but Polyphony Digital has announced a short maintenance period for this week.

This time it’s just a two hour intermission, scheduled for September 30th. This will start around 0400 UTC (convert to your time zone here) and end at around 0600 UTC, though the time at which you’re able to log back in again may vary.

With maintenance periods often associated to game updates, this brief spell of server tinkering may lead to speculation about a new version of GT6. However the last three maintenance periods – totalling 19 hours between them – came without any update.

Wow got this game for £50. played it a lot for more than 2 years…and apparently theirs a lot more content to come and their still developing it and maintaining it and it’s not costing me any extra money…. Do we get this much value out of any othere game….sounds like more of a long term business plan to me….rather than the quik Buck quik turnaround games we have become use to ….

    1. Kovu

I agree. And I must say I actually like to have long term support on simulation software.

The only thing that annoys me is that there’s no course maker yet. I mean – GT6 has been released in 2013 with the promise of the editor, and sometime in autumn 2014 it was in its beta phase… and still… no course maker yet.

However – the Bugatti VGT ist something to look forward to.

    2. Rallywagon

Not sure about you, but the game I got was far from complete. Modes that were originally launch day got dropped just before release. They were said to be “right around the corner” I believe was tobwording Kaz used. Well, online lobbies came what, 4 months later, bspec a year later and not even half as good as in gt5 and we are still waiting on the track creator. As for the rest of the post. PC, AC, and I think we can soon include DiRT Rally all are constantly updating content and the alike, all the while, not promising the sun a delivering an 20w incandescent light bulb, unlike PD.

  2. Gunma36

We will probably witness the introduction of the new VGTs Hyunday and Bugatti and…that will be it. Some fun with the new cars and then back on the shelf :D

    1. Jayson619

I understand but I still believe in hope that the cars I’m after will eventually come to GT6. Namely the Lamborghini Vision Gran Turismo.

And there’s a good chance this coming update is for the Bugatti and Hyundai VGT cars.

  3. Rallywagon

Just too late even if there is an update and it does come with the track creator. It’s one thing for a small, independent firm on steam to sell uncompleted “early release” titles. They make it clear this is the case, and most (not all though damn you RSI!) Usually have a fairly well planned and set time line. But a company like PD, with the backing of SCEI, its just unacceptable. This is the 6th main title GT game, not to mention the handful of other games PD has made. They are experienced enough to know better than to make claims they can’t deliver on. There should be no issues with running into limitations on the machine, they know them already. It was an excuse for a number of issues on GT5, so the PS3 benchmarks were already known. To many other racing titles of quality exsit now for PD to pull this kind of tactic and survive. Fool me once PD. Remember that saying as you go into GT7. If you release another GT6, I doubt there will be an 8.

The only thing i’ve been waiting for is a fix for the invisible online players glitch, i’m not even caring about VGTs or the course creator anymore.

    1. Rallywagon

Well, maybe it is a part of a “work around.” But clearing cache is not a fix, nor is it guaranteed to work. Typically the best way to get that issue fixed is to have all effected drives (those that cant see and those not seen) completely leave the room and rejoin. if the issue persists then it may be necessary to close the room and have a new host take over.
Head over to SNAIL’s main thread in the SNAIL section (under clubs and leagues). We have had a lot of experience in dealing with that, and all of the other online bugs. It has to be said, very slowly, the online environment has actually been getting more stable. In our experience at SNAIL, especially after the last round of server maintenance, is that most issues now are dependent on a particular person hosting, rather than the network infrastructure as a whole. A great example is people with Cisco equipment. For some reason, perhaps the way it handles packets, but people utilizing their modems or routers often have issues even getting into a lobby, let alone hosting a stable lobby. Same is true (though not the rule) of older PS3.
Ultimately, there is no real one step fix. I’ve barely ever cleared my cache, have an old PS3 and I’ve rarely ever had issues online. Others clear it habitually before our Sunday races on their new PS3’s and still have tons of issues. Without more examples to study and extrapolate data from it is hard to come up with more that an educated guess as to the issue, but I have a feeling it has to do more with someones network equipment, packet loss and some finicky coding while loading the racing environment causing the issue more than full cache or PD server issues.

Two VGTs. I’d be impressed if we got anything more but I’m not saying it’s impossible.

Not gonna start expecting too much so in the end if things don’t turn bad, the disappointment will be minimal.

    …well what, I got syndromes.

  6. Jimmy_Pop

If they fixed a lot of the problems like the glitchy physics, horrible screen tears, screen stuttering and what not, I’d be tempted to turn my PS3 on for more than a blu-ray player for movies.

    1. ginsunh

In the past, I would have accused you of just trying to troll, but I’m in the same boat. F6, while not perfect, has put my GT6 on the shelf.

    2. Rallywagon

For me, it was a combination of school starting, and DiRT Rally. Man that game is good. The clutch works, the sounds are great, every car is fully detailed. I can once again do something GT lost, rally race! Those Sierra time trials just didn’t cut it.

    3. SkylineObsession

It’s hard for me to say that, as i’m a die hard GT fan. But yeah, just finding that GT6 isn’t really that much fun to play anymore.

  7. vrossi

HEY! You can’t talk smack about PD. They’re the only dev that have turned couch potato’s into real race car drivers. Lets see ya do that Turn10.

    1. Johnnypenso

Doubt it. A lot of people think that proves GT is a great game. What they don’t realize is that most of these guys play a wide range of sims, most of which are far more accurate than GT.

    2. TomBrady

@JP what, Project CARS? Your fanboyism has gotten way out of hand. And I love pCars but you’ve gone nuts. Cry all you want about the tuning issues GT6 has, doesn’t change the fact that it’s one of the best pure driving sims there is. Very few sims nail the feeling of driving a real car like GT6 does. It has its issues but what sim doesn’t?

Matter of fact, why are you even here if you hate GT so much now? You can’t tell me that this is the best place for pCars discussion. Go to their actual forum for that. Maybe then you wouldn’t waste so much time talking trash about GT on a GT fansite. As if that makes any sense.

Plus, if you actually watched the GT Academy reality show you’d know most of them don’t play PC sims. Some do but most of them still played GT the most and grew up playing them. So in trying to discredit GT you’ve stretched the truth to fit your belief. How convenient.

Polyphony would do well to take a leaf out of just about every game with a good online fanbase/community and actually announce what is in the next release.

Times have changed from the hype of what might to learned community discussions on what actually is being released (thinking Project Cars, Forza etc).

It’s simple expectation management, all that can really happen now is a bunch of folks either being right, or disappointed.

  9. montecarlo87

I am just hoping for a 2.0 disk release since my playstation does not work with internet anylonger. That or just wait to hopefully GT7 release for the end of next year.

    1. MoLiEG

Yeah me too. I have internet @ home but it’s so slow it will take an eternity to update the game up to this point. (Haven’t bought it yet, and probably never will if that doesn’t happen)

  10. StevenKatz

Yay Bugatti VGT now if only the the update brought in bugatti grandsport, supersport, and some other cars that should be in game
” COUGH COUGH porsche COUGH COUGH “

  11. RedTailBoa

whatever it may be, there will be people complaining about it. the majority here have a sense of entitlement. and every time things dont go their way they cry some more

    1. biftizmo

And the awsom knowledge of how raceing games are made and the way companies should do their busness is outstanding….and the way they need to be vocal about there disappointment…

  12. F1Racer68

“With maintenance periods often associated to game updates, this brief spell of server tinkering may lead to speculation about a new version of GT6. However the last three maintenance periods – totalling 19 hours between them – came without any update.”

One important note on those maintenance periods is that they were SONY maintenance periods, not PD.

Having said that, I still wouldn’t expect much more than the 2 VGT cars.

  13. celtiscorpion73

Nice to finally see some news related to GT6. This seems to be rather reminiscent of when GT5 was starting to become almost obsolete and GT6 was becoming more of a priority for PD. Think I may have to trade up for a PS4 in the near future if this continues and wait for GT7.

  14. FS7

Unless PD includes proper races offline I don’t see any reason to get excited over maintenance, I gave up on catch-up races long time ago.

  15. wraith of horus

False alarm :D, one of the the employees at PD accidentally hit the Hype Train Anti Missile Defence launch control sequence when nodding off at his desk. Anti Missile Deactivated.

  16. TeamCZRRacing

Guys, come on. Enough of the hype train ****. You know as well as I do that the hype train is absolutely terrible for this community. Whenever PD doesn’t deliver an update, it results in even more arguing and other negative stuff.

    Seriously. Stop it.

  17. Groottemens

Could it be that “… the last three maintenance periods – totalling 19 hours between them – came without any update…” were to set up things so now we are about to enjoy the Track Maker..?!!? Really hope so! Fingers crossed!

    1. another_jakhole

I don’t think they’ve ever done that. There was this one time when the maintenance was done two days in succession. I think we were expecting the track maker after the second day, but nothing came. I’m not 100% sure an update DIDN’T come out of that though.

    2. Griffith500

There were two hefty periods of maintenance over a month before Spec II came for GT5, which itself saw little to no disruption to services at the moment it arrived.

But if the two large maintenance windows affected other games, then either this is totally unrelated, or the course maker delay is Sony’s fault! :B

  18. Toysuprahot

“ver the last three maintenance periods – totalling 19 hours between them – came without any update.”
Haha, this had to be mentioned, everybody’s gonna remember xD.

    1. sailworksman

Seriously, haven’t you heard? GT6 has been canceled. There is so much more going on with other games like FM6. With the new G29 out, P – Cars and DC have been reborn. PC sims are pulling away from GT6, leaving it in the dust. It’s ok to say GT was so yesterday. Come on, you can say it. Let it go!
