GTPlanet’s GT6 Track of the Week 30: King’s Pass

After a considerable break, Track of the Week is back! It’s been two weeks since we explored the high-concept Case Study Raceway no. 8, and for this installment, we’re going royal.

Kings-Pass-MapKing’s Pass comes to us care of JakeKing39, appropriately enough. A short-ish lap at under 2.5 miles long, the Pass packs in 14 turns across the flowing Eifel landscape. With the rumbly Jaguar XKR-S as my companion, laps are completed under the 1:45 mark with ease.

Far from feeling too small for race-focused machinery, King’s Pass works well with high-downforce racers too. The track is wide without feeling like a runway, and there’s plenty of passing opportunities: outside of the main straight, there’s the stretch of track after the bus stop, as well as the long plunge through the T6/T7 complex. I’ll leave long-time community member samoht gtx to describe that section in particular:

“My highlight is the ballsy fast right at the bottom of the hill, where you have to commit before you can see the exit. The corners flow into one another really nicely, giving the lap a great rhythm.”

Say it with me now: suspension compression! The Jag’s stock setup barely copes with T6 at King’s Pass.

That downhill run is the defining feature of King’s Pass. In a heavy road car like the Jag, it requires a serious stab of the brakes before you dive in, while braking for T7 has to start before you’ve even straightened the car. In a race car, the stakes are even higher, with sometimes nothing more than a lift of the throttle needed before the plunge. Nailing this section is the difference between simply good laps, and outright quick ones.

King’s Pass is an impressive, well put together track that feels right at home amongst the numerous tracks already available in Gran Turismo 6. Do yourself a favour and add it to your collection today.

That’s not all on the Track of the Week front. Voting is now open to select TOTW 31, and the submission thread for Week 32 has gone live as well. Head on over to the forum threads below to find out how you can take part:
