GTPlanet’s GT6 Track of the Week: Whitetail Raceway

Here we go! It’s the start of a new approach for Track of the Week here at GTPlanet. We saw 16 entries last week by our community, which then went to a vote a few days ago. As decided by his peers, WRS regular Whitetail has secured the title this week, with his eponymously-named Whitetail Raceway.

A seemingly-simple map belies a bevy of challenges for the driver that finds himself in a race here. Turn 3 is a tight uphill right, with a blind apex before tumbling back down towards the next turn. Here, you’re presented with a long, long left hander that begins ascending again. At the right time of day, a deceptive mass of sand behind the barrier up ahead could mislead you into prematurely straightening the car, but follow the rumble strips further left for a clean run through the uphill double-esses.

That wriggle culminates in a short straight at the peak of the track, with the tightest turn of the lap (a left-hander) signifying the dash down towards the finish line. Turn 9 wraps up the lap with a late-apex, slight-downhill left where exit speed is of the utmost importance as you’re deposited on the main straightaway.

I really only like the esses, rest is a bit redundant, in my opinion. If the overall length was shorter, especially the straights, I think I would enjoy it more.

Perhaps you would enjoy the shorter Cup layout then? You go straight at turn 1 and rejoin at turn 4 before doing down the hill.

Holy crap, that’s the best track I’ve seen for ages.
Turn 3/4 is a work of mad genius.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if PD were checking these out and made a ‘proper’ version of 1 great community created track for the next GT game (whatever that might be!)

The blind corner is turn 4, not turn 3. Thanks to the GTPlanet community for voting my track to be GTPlanet Track of the Week. It’s an honor to be featured on the front page of GTPlanet and being voted here feels really good.

There are multiple layouts to this track. You have the 2.7 mile full course featured here but if you cut through turn 1 straight to turn 4 you’ll get the Cup course, great for touring car and small car races. There’s also a generic 1-mile paperclip oval to round out the “Whitetail Raceway Park” complex.

Thanks to all voters and happy racing!
