New Project CARS Community Events Feature SLS AMG GT3, Renault Clio Cup

Two new Community Events are now available in Project Cars, both tying into Motorsport events running this weekend. The first celebrates the Blancpain GT Series round taking place at Circuit Zolder and features the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.

The second looks to one of the support races for this weekend’s round of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Oulton Park, letting you tackle the crests and corners of Oulton Park in a Renault Clio Cup.

Both circuits are known for challenging corners and rolling elevation changes, and with two very different cars to explore them with, will provide an interesting weekends worth of driving.

At the time of writing the third Community Event expected today is still not open, requiring the ‘Racing Icons Car Pack’ DLC, which has not yet been released. However it does give a clue as to the car involved, with your garage selecting the Bentley Speed 8 when viewing the event, as can been seen in the top right of the screen shot below.

The two community events will be open until June 8th 2015, and you can visit our Project Cars Forum for more discussion.

This game is great.. now we just need a coop where you can have human marshalls ready to kick “drivers” for cutting chicanes, crashing people and generally making a nuisance of themselves.

I can’t tell you how embarassing it was to be on the second spot on the leaderboard at the Brands Hatch event with a time of 28ish seconds from an aborted lap. There for all the world to see what a cheater JohnnyP is, even if there is no way to shortcut Brands GP down to 28ish seconds!

I do hope this gets fixed tout suite, it’s quite an annoying shortcoming.

This much about PCars; It has bugs on both PC & console releases.

By far the worst is lack of steering control due to overly sensitive reaction to steering input and overly sensitive self centering after left/right steering input. You have to numb the steering and FFB to keep most cars on the track. SMS needs to fix that crap YESTERDAY. Because it ruins the game. It makes it damn near impossible to play with a PS or XBOX controller on PC or console.

That said one trip around your favorite track and the feel of the game that the controller bug hasn’t ruined will hook you and make you curse SMS for botched steering control.

You can tell this is an excellent sim/racer. Update 1.4 can’t come fast enough.

If you’re on PS4, send me a PM and I’ll give you some great controller settings. Feels like playing Gran Turismo really. Also, many of the cars control much better once the tires warm up. But knowing how to adjust the psi (bar) is crucial in making cars drivable. Otherwise, you’ll be skating on ice with many of the vehicles.

Any particular reason other than the GTP liveried Ruf CTR3’s, that GTP is giving this game so much coverage? I personally think it’s great, but am only questioning it since Forza, Assetto Corsa, and other sims don’t get their own write-ups, and I think it would be great to hear news about those games too if GTP is taking a “World of Sim-Racing” approach opposed to a “World of Gran Turismo” approach.

Just wondering… What’s the case with that? And can we now look forward to broader coverage of online gaming (even DriveClub comes up occasionally in the Weekly Rewind/Community Spotlight), or is this a one off/exclusive deal?

Famine, answering basically the same question here:
      https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/hello-request-for-project-cars-reaching-gold-status-to-be-put-on-news.326987/

“GTPlanet is, first and foremost, a community site. Full stop. Its roots are certainly embedded in Gran Turismo and will always put that at the forefront for the foreseeable future, but you cannot honestly expect us and more importantly Jordan to turn a blind eye to everything else that’s going on?:

Same thread, regarding the GTP Logo on the Ruf:
And now you’re insinuating we’ve been bought?

it’s a smart tease from SMS
“Let me stop you right there. It was a move by two members from the GTPlanet community for no other reason than it being cool to have an official GTPlanet livery in a racing game.”

    2. Northstar

I’m guessing it’s because PCars is the only one of the non-GT games that has had a large amount of discussion in the forums. Those other games can go days with only a couple posts if any at all.

    3. SZRT Ice

I was thinking, maybe it’s due to PCARS landing on PS4. Meaning GTP is more of a “PlayStation Sim Racing” site than an exclusive “Gran Turismo” site. Just curious as to the criteria… Jordan? T-12? Scaff?

    4. SZRT Ice

Also noteworthy is Assetto Corsa’s console debut’s article, and DriveClub’s DLC absence. Thus = PS4 Sim-Racing only?

    5. Johnnypenso

“GTPlanet is, first and foremost, a community site. Full stop. 6. Johnnypenso

Same thread, regarding the DC DLC, from Scaff:

“DC did have a car pack come out over the last week, unfortunately with a lot going on we were not able to get a story up about it.

Its a situation in which someone who is not aware of the work involved in getting good content to the front page (I myself have only just started helping – I’ve been on the staff for years and I didn’t appreciate how much was involved), nor aware of what may be being planned in regard to news coverage.”

    7. SZRT Ice

And also, if they’re not turning “a blind eye to everything else that’s going on”, there where is “everything else that’s going on”? I only notice bits in the community spotlight… That’s not the same as articles exclusively and entirely about one game that’s not GT. Again… Not complaining about PCARS (as you seem quick to jump to it’s defense everywhere I see…), but I would also like to see articles on the happenings of other games as well, if GTP is going to allow that kind of treatment/attention outside of GT games.

    8. SZRT Ice

Nevermind… Googled your quote and found the answer/s (which you seemingly left out…).

“Famine: I probably should have said this earlier, but I’ll promote pCARS as much as I possibly can. I’ve already annoyed @Jordan with it, I’m sure.”

      “NUNOpt said:
why would gtplanet put pcars on the news but not all the other games represented in gtplanet?”

      “Famine: https://www.gtplanet.net/ruf-ctr3-to-feature-gtplanet-livery-in-project-cars/

“Here’s the thing with that, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SCE asking GTPlanet, a site with ties to Sony”

“Jordan: It takes a lot of work to stay on top of the news, decide what and when to post it, and then actually put together an article worthy for GTPlanet’s home page. It’s plenty of a burden just to stay on top of Gran Turismo news; providing detailed coverage of even one more game requires a massive, long-term commitment in time, resources, and money. You can’t just add more writers, either – finding, training, and organizing all of them is another project on its own, and with ad-blocking software depriving the site of more revenue than ever before, the economics of hiring professionals gets even more daunting.

Sure, I’d love to be able to cover every racing game with the ferocious attention to detail that we do for the GT series, and we may get there some day, but real people spend real time to make GTPlanet happen – it doesn’t run on magic.”

And last, but not least and most humbly… “Scaff: “DC did have a car pack come out over the last week, unfortunately with a lot going on we were not able to get a story up about it.

Its a situation in which someone who is not aware of the work involved in getting good content to the front page (I myself have only just started helping – I’ve been on the staff for years and I didn’t appreciate how much was involved), nor aware of what may be being planned in regard to news coverage.

Safe to say that we are doing all we can to expand the coverage, but a story still has to be worth the time and effort to get it to the front page, and not everything will. @Jordan has a very unenviable task in that regard and unfortunately we will never please all of the people all of the time.”

      Thanks anyways.

    9. Johnnypenso

What defense of PCars? You know there isn’t a boogeyman in every closet right? I quoted you what the mods said and it answered your question directly. Was I supposed to cross out the PCars reference to make you happy?…lol.

Just a comment about controller vs wheel.

I use a controller on Xbox one and its fine after the 1.3 patch. Its very controlable the twiching is gone after patch 1.3.

Also most of the top 10 times on Xbox are set with controller. That might be because not many people have a wheeel for Xbox, but it just shows its not a big advantage to use a wheel.

I am not saying using a wheel is bad at all, its a lot more fun and realistic. But its not like the game is unplayable with a controller.

For many people the wheel is quite espensive especially when they are not compatible with diferent consoles / PC’s, and also if you dont have room for it, or dont want to bother setting up a wheel eveytime you play. Then playing with a controller is still a lot of fun.

  5. GT5 Level 41

I am 99.9% ready to get this game. I need one more person to tell me it’s good enough to get. One question, will I be missing out on content by not being an early development supporter or a preorderer?

    1. liv4hardstyle

You only do things when people tell you to? Well if you finally do get it all your judgment will be based off others, you’re setting yourself up to fail. It’s a little thing called hype. Having said all of that the game is brilliant.. In my opinion

    2. GT5 Level 41

Uh, no. I think asking people’s opinions about an unknow is a logical thing to do. I’ve read enough to decide to get it. I just want an opinion from someone who has actually played it. I preordered modnation racers because it was supposed to be Mario 2.0. It sucked as much as anything could suck. I don’t preorder racing games anymore.

    3. liv4hardstyle

      @ GT5 Level 41
ah ok, different story. if you are familiar with racing games project cars is quite refreshing when it comes to consoles. it’s immersive, challenging and the learning curve to drive fast ,without crashing, with all assists off is mind boggling compared to any racer i’ve played. (again console only). once you get it right its very rewarding. don’t recommend playing on a controller as it is super twitchy and unforgiving. the level of customizing your experience is vast and detailed, but don’t expect to slap wings and body kits on your cars, the focus is on racing and challenging racing at that. only noticed minor bugs like any game, which doesn’t take away from the experience. its excellent man. get it.

    4. GT5 Level 41

All that aside its the tracks that peak my interest. Imola, Road Americe, Dubai, and the open roads. I’ve watched a few reviews and I understand how to tune the setting for a pad now. My DFGT just collects dust as I hate the pedals and I’m not buying another wheel until 7 comes out and I know what will be compatible. Thanks for your comment.

  6. Johnnypenso

I love the tie-in with real world events, current and historical. Really ups the immersion for me and helps blur the line between sim and real world. Well done SMS once again.

  7. Chunk88

I want that damn car pack. Or at least some official info like exactly what it’ll contain and the cost.

    1. JASON_ROCKS1998

I believe it will contain the BMW V12 LMR, McLaren F1 GTR Longtail, Bentley Speed 8 and Audi R8 LMP900 and perhaps some other stuff too…

    2. Samsonknight

Those cars sound great and all but, I wish PCars would focus more on American and Japanese cars. I tend to connect more with those makes instead of European.

    3. Johnnypenso

Just not in the budget this time around. The game was developed with just 7.5% of the budget of GT5 and if you put it in that perspective, it’s amazing we got all the content that we did. I expect the DLC will flow quite consistently and we’ll be over 100 by year’s end but that’s just a guess. Expect PCars2 to really expand the car list and get more into the Japanese and American cars although I don’t think you’ll see a game with the depth and breadth of GT’s content any time soon.
