Ordonez Hints at More Gran Turismo Development

As we’re entering what seems to be a slightly fallow period in GT6’s life cycle, a Tweet from Lucas Ordoñez – GT Academy’s first winner – has stirred up a bit of interest again, with speculation on what it holds for the summer.

The Tweet in question from Friday 10th April reads:

Another long and productive day at Polyphony studio with more testing and development for something really big!

Lucas is spending a lot of time in Japan at the moment of course, as he’s stepped up a class in Super GT to drive the GT500 Nissan GT-R of Kondo Racing, so the fact that he’s keeping a schedule at Polyphony Digital’s studio too isn’t that much of a surprise. The implications of his Tweet are myriad though and have fuelled a gentle dose of community speculation.

Gran Turismo 6 is still absent of its Course Maker feature but this is unlikely to necessitate the attentions of a racing driver. Instead it seems more likely that Lucas’s Tweet is connected either to this season’s GT Academy event which is due to be announced shortly (indeed Australian and Japanese events are already announced) or the likely inclusion of the Nissan GT-R LM prototype that Lucas will be driving at Le Mans this year.

For those of us with particularly active imaginations, that might not fulfil the requirements of “something really big” – leading some to posit a potential 7th entry in the Gran Turismo series breaking cover in the next few months.

Whatever your interpretation or what eventually turns out to be the true meaning, it’s good to know that the PD crew and the GT Academy driver family are still hard at work on the GT series!

What I’m guessing is the FIA Championship for they told would be here for Spring 2015. Anything more and I’d be impressed.

    ……………………What. I’m saying my opinion.

    1. Tenacious D

Something like that is entirely possible. The only “big” content released for GT6 so far has been the Ayrton Senna tribute stuff, and the massive Sierra track. There are only a few things possible that classify as big:

      – The FIA Championships
      – A greatly beefed up online structure, which would also suit the functioning of the FIA Championship
      – Course Maker II
      – Event Maker, useful off- or online
      – Race Mod for a bunch of cars and Livery Editor

Not sure what else would classify as big news. Well, GT7, yeah, hoping to hear about that this E3 ;D

Spec 2.0? Would make sense. GT7 just around the corner and GT6 with no 2.0. Plus course maker, plus online championship, plus new racing cars and possibly new track(s). On top of that GT7 announcement at E3. My version of really big. ;)

    1. Tenacious D

Spec 2 would be HUGE if it included some of the stuff in my list above. People still want a lot more community features, and a hefty online update, maybe with the Event Maker and Course Maker would make a whole ton of fans happy. I’d sure like to see as much as possible, maybe as hors d’oeurves of the goodies upcoming in GT7.

Something big? It’s so obvious – they will implement lorries to GT6! Can’t wait – Volvo VNL Truck on Autumn Ring… :D

    1. Rubencho

it was about time. I’m wondering which model of vacuum cleaner will be used to record the engine noise of the lorries

    2. Johnnypenso

Why innovate? The Dyson 2010 Turbo Velociraptor is quite popular as a sample already. Copy/paste/done…lol.

  4. Psychopulse

Something REALLY big? Personally, I don’t think the GT-R LMP would be called really big. I mean, I get it… It’d make sense if he would just say big, because it’s kind of a big deal (who wouldn’t want to drive it?), but really big… I think it must only mean GT7 is cominnnnnnggggggg!!!! Besides, E3 is in a few months!! Can’t waittttt!!! :D

    1. Johnnypenso

Well I wouldn’t take Lucas’ words literally. Really big could mean anything from GT7 to GTA or to a couple of surprise new cars and tracks. I have a feeling it’s the FIA thing though. Remember it was promised for “spring 2015”

I predict there will be a an announcement similar to. “GT7 is in development! It will be on the PS4 platform. It will feature cars. It will look better than GT6. It will have online features and will contain some tracks from previous Gran Turismo games.”

  6. GT5 Level 41

It’s pretty sad that a game show contestant communicates better with us then the actual company we spend money with. Screw PD and their broken and late promises.

  7. FS7

Maybe he’s talking about GT6 on PS4, didn’t Kaz say he would release GT6 on PS4 1 year or so after the PS3 version?

  8. go6

Is their a section for comments that I can post what things would be nice to see inside the future of gran turismo? I have lots of ideas, many new, and some old, but if their is a place where I can jot down all of this random information in my head, please let me know which part of this forum I can post those new ideas. Now that Polyphony digital has found a new home to work from I believe GT7 will be a big hit on PS4.

It’s the 2015 GT Academy Seasonal event at a course maker track using the Nissan GT-R LM Prototype! :D

    1. BrunetPaquet

hopefully it’d be better than the newer hydro thunder. Goodness, that game’s AI and championships were just so pointlessly hard and nearly impossible.

  10. fowlkore

hopefully they plan on moving the GT Academy finals to another track. Silverstone is a great race track but now we are going into the 6th season and Silverstone is starting to get boring.

Love how the picture is in black & White, as if Ordonez is some double agent with information that everyone wants.

I never doubt that PD are hard at work, I just wonder how much progress they make. It really seems sometimes their time is wasted on superficial stuff instead of working what’s important, like new AI, the course maker, GT7, and better sounds.

When will they listen to the community and realize how sick of rolling starts for all the seasonals and GT mode events? This chase the rabbit crap has gone on too long. I usually never complain about GT, it’s still the best option on any console but the rolling starts is one thing I’ve lost patience with.

    1. FS7

Making pretty much every offline race catch-up style was a huge mistake imo. PD should at least give us the option to enable either standing starts or normal rolling starts in arcade mode, as well as the option to enable mechanical damage, fuel/tire wear, and corner cutting/collision penalties in arcade mode. Having the option to have one-make races or choose cars for up to 15 AI opponents in arcade mode would be great too. All of that stuff should be easy to implement through an update.
If there’s issues with graphics and/or premium cars I wouldn’t mind being restricted to 720p in arcade mode, or being able to choose only standard cars for AI opponents in arcade mode, as long as I’m able to setup proper races offline.
What’s the point of having cars and tracks if I can’t setup proper races offline? I don’t see the point in having FIA certification when PD doesn’t allow players to play offline using realistic race settings.

    2. go6

YES BRING BACK QUALIFICATION! how come we can’t qualify for races OFFLINE, but online we are able to qualify???????

    3. infamousphil

I remember lots of stuff PD has introduced to console and sim racing… That’s what scares, scars and disappoints me about GT. So much of what PD and/or Kaz has pioneered has been tossed aside, ignored and/or oh yeah forgotten. On a possitive note… this tendancy or culture has fortified any and all resistance to hype train riding.

      WEMF!

    1. Lambob

there have been several train simulators released on steam since last GT6 cringeworthy news I could remember.

I’ll be patient, I am enjoying Cities Skylines while being on a GT hiatus. Not sure if pCars will sway me back on the wheel either, though time will tell.

    2. Johnnypenso

I watched a few tutorials on Cities Skyline and I’m as psyched about starting that game as I am about Project Cars!!! I haven’t played any city builders for about 15 years and just found Banished a few weeks ago and started playing that. Good stuff, all it’s needs is some cars to drive and you’re good to go…lol.
