SRT Tomahawk X: First Gran Turismo 6 Gameplay Videos

The over-the-top-crazy SRT Tomahawk concept was revealed as the latest Vision GT car yesterday, and now we’ve got our first look at what it’s like to drive the truly insane 2,590HP “Tomahawk X” version of the car in Gran Turismo 6.

Check out the full announcement for more details on the car, which will be released in the game later this summer. Thanks to Sam and TheTailsDoll for the tips!

With these increasingly spaceship-looking VGT cars, I’m expecting a mission to the moon soon.

    1. Johnnypenso

Stick a ramp on SSRX, reconfigure the aero panels for lift, and this thing might reach escape velocity. If not, at least it’ll make it far enough to land in a new version of Wipeout ;)

  2. Andefir

Tell me the front doesn’t look like a snake! it think it’s pretty cool since the viper logo is a snake.

  3. TheEvstar93

I really don’t care if the VGT cars don’t have interiors. I don’t really play the game with the interior cam anyway. When it comes to the VGT cars, it’s the exterior that swings me, and the SRT Tomahawk doesn’t disappoint. Just look at all those air brakes!!

  4. Donnced

    Woowww,you’r playing the new wipeout???
    Nope…It’s GT6…the “real” driving “simulator”..XD XD

    1. Croatian_STIG

Well… if it works in the game then theoretically it should work in the real world.

…if you can survive the massive G-forces.

    1. infamousphil

      Sorry guys… it’s AWWWe HECK!

Say it wit me yo!… AWWWE HECK!

lol… cain’t wait to run SRT v Peugeot @ la Sarthe, FR

    2. infamousphil

Yup, probably… but what happens when you tune the cars to competetive hp, kg and pp numbers? Add some weather and time… the SRT drivers may find themselves chewing some Peugeot dust! I’ll be waiting at HighPerformanceStreet.

  5. Gunma36

Ok, the thing looks fantastic and unbearably fast…but seriously, how many times will you pick it to have a good drive around a circuit? It looks like a joke. Not what I expect from GT. But, hey, now it’s like that.

    1. xpenguinx123

Bro, i hope you know that there will be three variations of the tomahawk, right? There’s the tomahawk s (s is for street), the gt, then the x version (x for experimental)

  6. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

On the whole lap – I’ve only noticed the front-left tire heating-up X)
On the top of that – this lap was done with assists turned on if you’ve looked on the left side of the RPM gauge X)
Then what will happen if a better driver got the chance to the drive this monster with assists off ? XD

  7. Rich S

Why all the hate for this thing, it looks awesome. The 2X handled so poorly, this thing looks like a genuine red bull X2014 killer. :) Only problem is the lack of premium. All new cars should be premium…

    1. SavageEvil

What do you mean lack of premium? I don’t quite understand that, do you mean it has no interior? Perhaps we should ask Kaz why none of the VGT’s show the interior when you pilot from the cockpit…would love to hear the answer.

    2. infamousphil

Nope, I’m not Kaz. But perhaps the VGT cars have no interiors because CONCEPT DESIGN(s) generally aren’t done with interiors because it’s focus is on stylings (exterior). And PD/Kaz aren’t in the business of doing the manufacturers jobs of doind so?

Sure I’ve seen interiors in concept cars but it was the interior that was the focus. Concepts aren’t even done with engines except when the engine is the focus and then it’s only imaginary. The engines are just an expression of what they want. And don’t even get me started on were PD gets handling, performance and sound for these cars from…

Some people hate and bicker just for the sake of it or don’t know how else to express themselves. Do yourselves a solid… get away from your pc, turn off the lap top and put down your mobile… open a book or magazine

    3. Johnnypenso

I have only driven in cockpit view for almost a year now. Every single lap in every single car. The lack of a cockpit in a car would turn it into a non-car for me so I can understand where Rich S is coming from if indeed that is the point he’s trying to make. It’s a legitimate concern for those of us wanting the maximum immersion possible.

    4. infamousphil

Hats off to you, Johnny. Maybe if could configure my controller to comfortably scan the exterior mirrors and flanks while in the heat of battle (proximity arrows are handy) l’d go inside when driving in a room. I get no joy from ruining anyone else’ race so l reserve the experience for arcade mode.

I get that every cockpit could be detailed. I even think they could do a better job with the black out interior for fender mounted mirrors and rear mounted wings. But creating an interior for a VGT car just for the sake of it may not go over well with the manufacture(s) and blanket ultimatums would probably have larger negative results. Kaz and PD should be and probably are greatful for the support they get for their ‘video game’.

  8. WarriusZero

Is Kaz slowly building up the prequels of Wipeout?
Because that’s what it looks like in so many aspects (including the increasingly ‘for-the-masses’ arcadey approach).
GT is not what it used to be. :(

  9. TomBrady

I knew it wouldn’t be as fast as the Red bull. That also might make it easier to drive though. The red bull is so insanely grippy that it’s hard to even drive the thing.

This car, you actually have to slow down for corners a bit. That’s a good thing

Bad thing is there’s no cockpit view. Fail.

    1. XSRacing111

Ok, I might not be the best X2011 driver in the world but I just took it out to Laguna Seca and was averaging 50 second lap times. When the Tomahawk is released I’ll take it Laguna Seca and compare lap times. But I can already tell from just the small section in the video that the Tomahawk is on par with the x2011 thru that section if not slightly slower.

    2. XSRacing111

EDIT: I wasn’t able to see the above video on my phone. So yes, the RB X2011 and the SRT Tomahawk are running similar lap times at Laguna Seca. It just appears that the SRT is harder to drive.

    3. Johnnypenso

Since the Redbull is a fan car with suction to hold it to the track, how is the SRT able to achieve similar levels of grip without the ground effects?

    4. wejhvabewjty

I think that all that spoilers that come up in the corners create an effect similar to the one is created in the Red Bull and in the Chaparral 2J with the fans.

  10. RodolphoPNeto

I want to drive these cars so much that i almost don’t want to watch that, feels like a spoiler lol

  11. SavageEvil

Hey PD you finally going to give us that alternate Route X with the full cylinder parts? Come on PD do it, I want to drive on the ceiling.

    1. RodolphoPNeto

Also, lots of dirty lap times there heh? Having problems handling that beast are ya? :)

  12. YukinoSuzuka

Well, an online race would be a crazy race to watch I guess. Something like a field full of peacocks prancing & dancing into every corner.. :D

    1. SavageEvil

Would be even more amazing to see a full set of great drivers all tearing around the course not crashing or spinning out from start to finish. Now that would be amazing!

    1. Lambob

polar vortex still in full swing, we may not have a summer this year, so yeah, probably not happening.

  13. Lambob

does it have a button for “driverless” mode ? what’s the blatant use of all that stellar technology if it still has to waste countless sensor CPU technology for human input to mess everything up!

I’ll buy one for my dad, if SRT can build it for real as driverless option.

    1. SavageEvil

That is being blocked by humans fearing that self driving cars will cause accidents when it’s proven that so far AI tends to run better than 98% of the human race at any given time. In fact Google self driving car was involved in a few accidents all we because of human, not because of the car losing control itself. in fact self driving cars are safer can drive in close proximity to other self driving cars at much higher speeds, but you know people are full of themselves and swear they have faster judgement and reaction than an AI driven vehicle. People always full of pride for no good reason. You should see Audi self driving car tackle Hockenheim Ring without a human in sight and it drove at nearly 180mph top speed, it was amazing to watch. You think it will be easy to get US legislation to pass self driving AI, nope but it’s ok to let human who can’t even park a car get a license or those who forget that turn signals aren’t optional when making left and right maneuvers. Human do not want to cede control to an AI. For joy of driving I would say you can turn off the AI but for day to day grind, give me a self driving car any day, I’ll take it.

    2. TomBrady

But Savage, the problem is the rare times something does go wrong with a AI driven car, the company that makes it will be liable and get sued to hell.

Also, people would rather be responsible for accidents themselves, rather than have something that’s supposed to be safe falter and get them into an accident. Even if the percentage is much lower, people would still be against it. It’s just like if a limo driver crashed with you in it, but it was your car. Most people would be furious about that but if they do it themselves, it’s a whole other story.

  14. jimantonic

Anybody else think it kind of resembles a sea creature making itself big to scare off predators when the air brakes pop up?
Maybe it’s just time for my medication…

    1. Both Barrels

In that sense, it reminds me of the dinosaurs that ate Wayne Knight in Jurassic Park haha.

    1. RoyalKINGz

jus imagine how this car would be in more critically acclaimed pc sim racers, the damage would be crazy

    2. TomBrady

what part of experimental technology don’t you get?

Dude, Assetto Corsa, AKA the most realistic sim on the market has a Blue Falcon mod. Does that mean it’s not a sim anymore?

    3. Johnnypenso

Apples and cumquats. AC has open modding so literally anything you can think of is possible in the game from an individual modder. Not the same thing as an official car put out by the developer themselves.

  15. GT5 Level 41

Who else is impressed that it was driven from the rear cam? I can’t drive from that view.

  16. TeamCZRRacing

I might as well get the anesthetic ready because this thing is probably going to tear my arms off.

    1. TheFlyingScot

Haha most likely. Hopefully when running its stock setup it doesn’t shudder your wheel to pieces like the GT-R LM Nismo did in GTA Round 4…

  17. TheFlyingScot

Get ready for all the kids in lobbies getting this out whenever you set a good lap in an “average” car…

    1. SavageEvil

What about this car is average? It’s HP rating alone would put it in a class by itself, RedBulls have -1000 less hp, so this would be in a class of of it’s own. Average car…pfft, sometimes people say things just to create an argument, when honestly no one has unlimited rooms there are always rules and limitations, but I digress.

    2. TeamCZRRacing

He’s saying that this is going to be perfect for those little 8-year-old idiots who can’t take being beaten fair and square so they whip out the fastest car in the game whenever someone beats their laptime fairly, pretty much crushing the chances of anyone else topping the leaderboard.

    3. TheFlyingScot

I wasn’t referring to the Tomahawk as being “average”. I mean cars such as LMP cars which are fast but when compared to this could be classed as “average”. Obviously this car is way beyond anything currently in GT6. Read the post properly next time before making a fuss about it.

    1. GTRacer22

Yea, this won’t ever see Fun Runs. Unless we make the bad drivers sit out. And we use SSRX.

    1. RoyalKINGz

i wnna c this in other pc sims and see everyone drive it then hahahahahahahahahahahahahhaa

    2. ZoidFile

What’s the matter? I’ve seen seen much worse on other sims, heck I build worse stuff myself in gtr2.^^ With a pool of over 1000 cars, why not have some fun with the engine once in a wile?
