Subaru VIZIV GT Vision Gran Turismo Teased

VisionGT_Subaru_001It may seem like a while since we last got a new Vision GT car in Gran Turismo 6, but the project rumbles on. The latest manufacturer to join the ranks is Japanese industrial concern Subaru, which has today joined Polyphony Digital in the release of a teaser video and some in-game images of the impending Subaru VIZIV GT Vision Gran Turismo.

VisionGT_Subaru_003It’s probable that you’ve already seen images of the real car after its debut showing at the Geneva Motor Show in March, however it seems to have evolved somewhat from the diesel hybrid sports SUV model shown earlier in the year to a distinctly more aggressive and sporting model in the mould of earlier VGT cars like the Volkswagen Golf.

Most details are a little bit sketchy at the moment as we’re a little way out from an official unveiling in either GT6 or the real world, however the Subaru joins a Vision GT stable of particularly high performance road cars and it seems likely that it will tout something slightly more potent than the VIZIV’s 2.0 boxer diesel and continuously variable transmission pairing. As a Subaru it’s also relatively reasonable to guess it’ll put whatever power it has down to the deck through an all-wheel drive system. However, all we can say for sure right now is that it’ll be another plug-in hybrid model.

Vision GT cars in the past have not had a particularly long lead time from reveal to being drivable in Gran Turismo, so expect this car to come along shortly as part of a light content bundle as GT6 approaches its first birthday!

Cool. Give me a plug in WRX to replace my ’11 WRX. I’m all about that. But make it a 5 door, please. I don’t think I can fit my dogs in that concept… or the current sedan… PLEASE make a hatch Subaru!

Another VGT around 615-625pp – seems probable as the BMW, Mitsubishi and VW all fell around those lines. Hopefully we can tune it…

The car looks ok I guess. Not terribly exciting. The lack of interiors just makes these cars feel a lot less interesting. I loved the VW car because it felt like a complete package with the interior completely modeled.

Well, we did have some glimpses of a few models in the very first Vision GT video, which had a lot of similar lines among the cars.

Frankly, I’d hope the manufacturers would begin to use these clean, sharper lines in their future models, rather than to see how rounded and teardrop shaped they could make them. As cool as the FT-86 and BRZ are, the original concept from Toyota looked much nicer. I just hope we can convince the automakers that sheer aerodynamics aren’t mortally essential, especially to trump snazzy exterior lines.

It looks great… just hope that we can drive it on the rally courses Colin McRae style :) It’s a Subaru After all :D

I’m glad Subaru went this way. I’d prefer a Hybrid over a (single) internal combustion engine concept any day.

I’m not sold at all on the electric car. The expense of the batteries and electrical systems add $12,000 and up for all this wonderful Earthsaving technology, for a tiny contribution to the end of CO2.

Oh, but wait. Those super-expensive batteries need to be charged with electricity which mostly comes from coal burning plants, thus negating any benefits, if not making them worse. Hurray, well meaning environmentalism. ;D

@0:35 appears to be some sort of interior.

I gotta say from the fort concept image I wasn’t really looking forward to this one, but seeing the teaser without the big obnoxious rear wing I actually think this could be real cool, despite the fact that’s its a hybrid… But I think it may challenge BMW for best styling, though I still am most interested in the Alfa and the Alpine, but more so the Alfa judging by the Alpine teaser shots.

Personally Im a wing guy. I dont like the look of a wingless car whether it has a performance purpose or not. It just makes a car look boring with no wing. JMO Im guessing this will have a wing as it will probobly need the downforce since it seems most vgt cars have insane power, just my thought.

    2. Amac500

For me wings depend on the car. I just think the wagon like styling with a sports car prototype wing didnt fit, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get the wing on or off option, I think that’ll probably happen.

    3. wudy201

I agree with that wings on a wagon dont look good. Im talking more like a wingless trunk lid or hatch I like seeing a wing on there. I do think there are some exceptions mostly big 4 door luxury type cars, wagons and hatchs that resemble a vw gti/golf i guess Im thinkink mostly of cars that have some sort of trunk lid like Integras and last model cougars.

I believe he’s mocking those who use every comment to make feature requests or air their grievances, usually unrelated to the topic. Happens on Facebook all the time.

    2. Amac500

Yeah I’ve seen the Facebook comments. My favorite was the people call mad when the GT5 servers go down and somebody straight up thought PD should abandoned GT6 and keeping adding content to GT5. *rolls eyes*

Love the unintentional pun in the article. Anyhow, about time we got something. This next update is looking more and more interesting.

    1. Tenacious D

Probably. Who’s going to want to pay an extra $15-30,000 for this lovely Earthsaving technology? Priced those batteries lately?
