Video: Lucas Ordoñez Drives GT6’s Goodwood Hillclimb

July 14th, 2013 by Jordan G.

As part of their Goodwood Festival of Speed coverage this weekend, The Telegraph has put together a short video showcasing the Gran Turismo 6 demo on display at the Nissan booth.

They also have a chat with original GT Academy champion Lucas Ordoñez, and we get to watch as he has a go at the hillclimb course in the GT-R.

Polyphony Digital has, of course, released their own gameplay footage of GT6‘s newest location. Thanks to Sphinx for the tip!

Lol Lucas was like I got this, then he was like “Jesus grab the wheel!”

  2. Jul. 15, 7:37pm

    bad driver…

  3. Jul. 15, 5:57pm

    I did 46.6 on that day, I beat u Lucas :D

  4. Jul. 15, 3:19pm

The likeness is striking but after playing the gt academy demo it was a let down the car phisics suck clearly not meant to be driven with a controller unfortunately !!!

    • Jul. 19, 2:43pm

Good. If the physics are designed for the racing wheels. Thats how it should be :)

      T500 time!!! :D

  5. Jul. 15, 12:58pm

    New player for videos

    • Jul. 15, 1:39pm

I assume this is just the player that the Telegraph uses… most links here are from YouTube…

  6. Jul. 15, 11:46am

GT Academy was his final “in”, but Lucas (and his brother) was an up and coming driver long before GTA. Same story as sooooo many others, ran out of money to fund them.

As for Pikes Peak: being a public road I find it hard to believe that the GT guys snapped all the pics they need to make a track without someone seeing them and it being out. I would like it in game too. Just sayin

    • Jul. 15, 2:08pm

Wow Great knowledge to share – I didn’t know that!!

  7. Jul. 15, 11:06am

More than Goodwood very short ‘n’ uninteresting track they need to completely recreate Pikes Peak Both the new paved and old gravel / paved hillclimb/downhill.

  8. Jul. 15, 10:39am

They need to put the touge track like the one on best motoring on gt6 that would be loads of fun. how they should set it up is that it should be a room of sixteen or any even number no less than four and have a simple elimination round at the same “performance point” two each round and whoever can get the closest or the further between the two rounds wins then they wait for the other players to have chance to compete with the top seed..if you don’t understand watch some youtube vid’s of best motoring and you’ll see what i’m talking about. pd would sell out if they implement this…fun fun fun !!!!

  9. Jul. 15, 10:31am

some other source says that it is trolling…

I dont know for sure.. anyways… They must create it for PS4… it will be 10 times better even without making new textures.. GT6 on ps3 is downgraded in a way… and improved in others.. on ps4 it could be just perfect with everythig set on MAX/BEST/AMAZING :D, later they can create GT7 made fully for ps4!

  10. Jul. 15, 10:11am

Those of you fretting about the engine sounds, have you been playing the demo? The 350Z (or 370Z, I forget) sounds pretty good to me, especially with the bass and volume up a little (personal preference). Definitely a big improvement, and it’s still effectively a beta.

    • Jul. 15, 10:42am

sure M8 ;) – I can also say that I had a nice drive with my Team M8 yesterday, and i was using the 2014 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY full race modded . Great sound but still, it needs a little more aggression/Rumble/tosterone to get in under your skin, it is still very clean and No chaos, otherwise Love it Love it ..

Maybe we just need to be able to chose which kind of aggression we want in our game :O)

    • Jul. 15, 1:15pm

When the heck did PD let us mod the StingRay?! Awesome! Been waiting to see what the Ray would do besides putter around. Thanks Flagmo! You just made my day!

    • Jul. 15, 1:36pm
      The Stig Farmer

You can’t mod the C7 Stingray.

    • Jul. 15, 2:04pm

Im so Sorry Infamousphil ‘ I got it all wrong :( It was the Zr1 (c6) 09 .. please forgive ;)

    • Jul. 15, 2:47pm

Lol, I knew that. I had you pegged as a hack job and was trolling for an admission of guilt. I don’t partake in that kind of activity. I found myself in a ‘cruising’ room last night and when a race was started, a group of 300+ mph cars left me in a haze of tire smoke at SS7’s starting lime.

    • Jul. 15, 4:22pm

      Lmao phil .. Vrummm :o)

  11. Jul. 15, 8:40am

    • Jul. 15, 9:59am

Yes! The problem is to do with the chosen Flash video format, because some of the videos plays fine – and some uses a flash player codec that Android don’t support.. like this one :O)

    • Jul. 15, 1:05pm

This is the first one to say flash player needed (which i have!)

    • Jul. 15, 2:06pm

Yep! I’ve got it it too, But it’s the only explanations i can think of – because it says so when you click on the link ;)

  12. Jul. 15, 7:41am

The real audio from the environment behind, sounds like real Tosterone full blooded Race cars Vrummmm’ (((O_o))) Uhhh 0ww it is :P..

well!! if all of the other great Race games’ that we know of, had the same kind of £’$ support from the Car manufacturers, they could also use the gimmick of saying – we create real race car drivers with our Race game’ Oops I spoiled the fun again’ didn’t I..

It’s nice and very clever with GT Academy and a great great opportunity for young skilled potential Race drivers, to get into the expensive Motorsport and in a faster and cheaper pace then it would be ( I would love to see a female soon ) but lets not fool ourselves, it’s not the game that creates them, it is just giving them the opportunity – I do hope more of the great Race Games would do the same in the future ;)..

    • Jul. 15, 7:58am

Well said, Flagmo. GT Academy is like a video game version of Jeopardy. Where the best prepared have a chance at advancing or improving their social status. I wonder what Turn 10 and FM are up to these days.

    • Jul. 15, 8:00am

      What ‘other great race games’?

    • Jul. 15, 8:01am

    • Jul. 15, 8:03am

Like Forza, Project cars when it comes out: hairystig

  13. Jul. 15, 7:29am

The video wont play on my phone. Is Lucas driving the GTR in the game demo, or driving a real GTR up the hill in real life?

    • Jul. 15, 10:00am

he plays the GT demo :)

  14. Jul. 15, 7:06am

For me is too short. One more track is good, but… And, nice one Lucas, you said “is not like real”.

  15. Jul. 15, 2:52am

something like touge can be done here no?

  16. Jul. 15, 2:04am

Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International! Pikes Peak International…..

C’mon pls let there be Pikes Peak…..

    • Jul. 15, 2:16am

Yes Jayson… let there be Pikes Peak for 6. As fabled as Goodwood is, it’s just too dang short. It’ll probably wind up being one of GT’s most unused courses as well like the Top Gear Test Track.

    • Jul. 15, 3:16am

But TG test track is everywhere online… :/ What are you talking about?

    • Jul. 15, 4:06am

TG Test Track is hardly used in offline races or Seasonals. Quite the shame. But it still holds popular online.

    • Jul. 15, 5:13am

The Goodwood Hillclimb will probably be used in time trials for the Seasonal Events! And don’t forget, there’s a good chance it will come with the circuit and the rally track!

It will be a good 3 years before GT7 (or whatever they’re doing for the PS4), so with monthly DLC there’ll be plenty of time to bring out Pikes Peak!

As for the TGTT, I’m sure PD will have worked out better ways of utilising the track in GT6!!!

    • Jul. 15, 7:23am

Top Gear track is one of my favs. I use it all the time.

    • Jul. 15, 7:50am

When amatuer Modders can create a quite nice looking full Pikes Peak track for Richard Burns rally, and Codemasters which also did a nice visual PP track in Dirt, then surely PD could for GT6/7 in the same quality as the rest –

The big question is will they ? I do think there has to be Money/deals involved’ before they will do it..

  17. Jul. 15, 1:57am

Wait a second, this track is going to be in GT6, and its going to take us 50 seconds to complete? That is weak. If the circuit is included, that’s a bit better.

    • Jul. 15, 9:03am

I can’t imagine the circuit not being included. However, PD has implied that they will have monthly DLC right after launch including tracks, so maybe the circuit will be released as just that, planned DLC.

    • Jul. 15, 9:08am
      e30 freek

Take a fiat 500 to the track then

  18. Jul. 15, 1:25am

I think it’s kinda cool to see Lucas in the seat…. Wondering back to his first time using a wheel playing with freinds on psn….

  19. Jul. 14, 11:25pm

my opinion…. that video kinda sucked cause I didn’t c the video very good and couldn’t really here it that great! the guy talked to much so he kept on crashing to much

  20. Jul. 14, 10:59pm

It’s the same sound sample it has in GT5. I noticed PD has made an effort to replicate the V6 sound that this car has in real life, but it’s just a strange mix of a V8 sample at low revs, and that “flat” engine sound that GT has always had since GT1.

I’m sure they’ll get it right in the release versions, or through patches.

    • Jul. 14, 11:16pm

I actually just watched this video in my tv with the sound system on, and although it is still the same sample they have indeed adjusted it a bit. It does not sound perfect, but definitely much better than in GT5.

    • Jul. 15, 1:32am

How can it have the same sound sample when the GT-R GT3 2013 doesn’t exist in GT5?

  21. Jul. 14, 8:44pm

BRING BACK the damn FULL Clubman course from GT1 !!

Pardon me, I don’t recall that track making a return

  22. Jul. 14, 8:32pm

I really believe to this day in these kind of events like gt academy the really fast guys in a real car that played gt academy in all these years and have not made or gone to the semis and lost would be faster then some of the gt academy winners but that’s life it’s about chance more then how good you actually are in a car

    • Jul. 15, 9:38am

Well the better race driver knows better at adapting different cars and that includes video game to real too. If that dude fast guys in a real car you mention can’t make it to the final then he sucks no excuses. Being a good race car driver requires so many years of driving. Barely there’s anyone who spend so much time on a race track to really make them a fast guy in a real car, that is only the rich dude though. Sorry but your comment lacks common sense.

  23. Jul. 14, 8:16pm

Did Ordonez just say he started his career with GT Academy in 2008??

    • Jul. 15, 8:19am

Haven’t watched this myself, but that IS the year he was in it, so yes, he probably did. :)

  24. Jul. 14, 7:42pm

The engine sounds are greatly improved (aside from the Tuned Cars driving by).

  25. Jul. 14, 6:48pm

    ** Runs in the room**

Car sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

    ** Legs it out again**

    • Jul. 14, 8:19pm

Don’t know if you noticed, but this was recorded with a handheld camera. That’s likely why the car sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

    • Jul. 14, 9:54pm

Also it was a placeholder sound. If u don’t know that after it being said in god knows how many articles then stop putting stupid vacuum cleaner jokes.

    • Jul. 14, 9:55pm

    • Jul. 15, 5:26am

Stop with the place holder sound crap already.

Gran Turismo games have always sounded this way.
The developers have always said with every new game, sounds are improved, but they still sound ridiculous for a game in 2013. There are no excuses.

Polyphony lie to their fans all the time to avoid disappointing them, and it bites them back hard when the fans experience it for themselves. Just wait till the game comes out and it will be no different.
Quigz, you are hyping yourself up to be brought down hard.

Sounds are horrible, vaccum cleaner jokes are still valid.
Dare I say Forza has had awesome sounds since number 1, light years ahead of any GT game.

I will still buy this like every other GT game, because I enjoy racing games.

Now .. don’t get me started on probably a far worse sound issue that GT has .. tyre noise .. oh. my .god make it stop already.

    • Jul. 15, 12:10pm

@marto – Vacuum jokes are old and, IMO, no longer valid, let alone tolerated!!

It’s always the same idiots with the same vacuum crap – ALL THE BLOODY TIME! Whenever a new topic is posted bang, in comes some fool with a vacuum cleaner quip! A new topic means a new discussion, so why come in and say the same thing again and again? If these “people” can’t contribute intelligently to a discussion they can go get stuffed!

As for the tyre noise, I will agree with you on that! From memory it wasn’t this bad in GT4… What they need is an individual volume controller for EVERY piece of ambient sound – tyres, engine, crowd, birds, etc.

  26. Jul. 14, 6:24pm

I’m really jealous about Lucas and other winners that they get to this point where you doing what you love but I’m happy as well that someone made it to live with dreams. Thank you Kazunori. That’s what suppose to be ” less talking more actions”

  27. Jul. 14, 6:16pm

That was rubbish! I had 2 goes and banged in a 49.5.
My friend had several and won today at Goodwood with a 45 second run!

    • Jul. 14, 7:17pm

It was’nt supposed to be a good time, it was just fun and games…

  28. Jul. 14, 5:38pm
    Lord Protector

omg! ordonez seems like such a noob.

    • Jul. 14, 6:26pm

If you’ll be on his place I bet you’ll be the same or worse!!! Leave him alone. He done something with his life, take a example from it

    • Jul. 14, 7:07pm

    • Jul. 14, 8:13pm

@Neilson248 Well, now he’s a professional racing driver, for one thing.

    • Jul. 14, 9:56pm

      Successful professional racing driver

    • Jul. 14, 11:14pm

Noob? I was actually expecting him to act like a douche after I read this comment but he actually seems alike a very nice and down-to-earth guy.

    • Jul. 15, 4:09am

Neilson248how?? Doors are still open, give you best shoot on silverstone.
I know that Lucas had an easy task coz at that time part in gt academy take only 25k people, now is couple of Milion out there. But you never know what future bring:))

    • Jul. 15, 8:14am

He was in the finals with Arnaud Lacombe (Ti-tech85), so it wasn’t exactly an “easy task”. :P

    • Jul. 15, 8:03pm

Didn’t know that and honestly don’t know who is titech85, but you’ve got my point? I play in gt from beggins (1998) but Gt with Internet and online races, gt academy etc from 2011 so I’ve lost lots of facts and infos.

  29. Jul. 14, 5:36pm

It’s interesting that both Lucas and Chris were unable to put down clean laps – I don’t know about Lucas but if Chris has driven the track in reality it’s rather concerning that he simply couldn’t keep it together.

If I’m not mistaken, Kaz was boasting that there shouldn’t be a difficult transition from reality to virtual if the simulation is good enough (Which is certainly true) and yet both of those laps were very messy.

So really, I have to wonder – is it just Goodwood having this problem due to this new surface that they’re struggling to simulate or a problem with the game its self.

    • Jul. 14, 6:05pm

Seems to me they were both just trying too hard. Chris has driven the track but I doubt never at the limit.

    • Jul. 15, 5:22am

So, in your world, doing an interview while driving would not lead to a crash, right!? Hmm, interesting…..

  30. Jul. 14, 5:36pm

Oh wow, the sounds are WAY different……Kaz kept his word?

0:50 and up actually sounds like the real car.

    • Jul. 14, 11:20pm

…That was a real car in the background.

  31. Jul. 14, 4:48pm

Goodwood race circuit with some of those old race cars would be epic.

But a very nice DLC would be the rally stage at the top of the Goodwood hill with a Colin McRae rally pack with a selection of his old cars.

  32. Jul. 14, 4:33pm

can we have goodwood circuit instead. that would be more usefull.

    • Jul. 14, 4:52pm

Too late! The Hillclimb is already in the game!
However, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the circuit AND the rally track make it in as well…!

    • Jul. 14, 7:23pm

I’m sure PD will trash this track to put in what you want,

  33. Jul. 14, 4:29pm

The sounds are improved from what I hear.

    • Jul. 14, 5:06pm

They apparently are, considering what Kaz said about the sounds from the demo, which were just fillers.

  34. Jul. 14, 3:40pm

Now we’ll be seeing everyone trying to beat his time hehe

    • Jul. 14, 3:43pm

It wont be very hard lol, he went off track and didn’t drive that well

  35. Jul. 14, 3:39pm

cool :) also saw some coverage on tv today the gt academy trainer guy did well in the skyline
