Bertone Vision GT Concept Revealed in New Renderings

bertone-vision-gt-2

The first images of Bertone’s Vision GT car have apparently been leaked, hitting the web thanks to a car design Facebook page. The renderings show what would be the most radical, over-the-top Vision GT projects to date, giving GM’s Chaparral 2X a run for its money.

Many were concerned about Bertone’s future in the Vision GT program after the company declared bankruptcy last year, but the name of the famous Italian design studio was transferred to a new company, “Bertone Design”, and Polyphony Digital never removed the company’s logo from the Vision GT lineup (unlike Alfa Romeo, who dropped out of the project).

bertone-vision-gt-3Of course, because these sketches did not come from an official source, we can’t be sure that these are entirely authentic.

However, the design is similar to the white concept originally teased by Bertone, and all of the images carry a recent copyright and the name of Giulio Partisani – an established, professional automotive designer employed by Bertone.

Thanks to diegorborges for digging these up!

There’s just no way this thing is going to pass modern pedestrian safety requirements, sorry Bertone. Would be like getting run over by high-speed reversing farm machinery

    1. TeamCZRRacing

That’s not the point. The purpose of VGT is to allow designers to go crazy and do whatever they want, without any restrictions.

  2. Vegas17

This concept car business has to stop. GT was as great racing game, it wasn’t Gundam figther wings meets Ridge Racer.

We haven’t seen a single “real” new car hit this games in feels like years. Instead we’re being bombarded with B spec uselessness, transformers and un-promises.

There’s soooo many fantastic cars that are on the market now that this game hasn’t even taken a sniff at. This Bertone mess to me is another nail in the coffin for GT. It boggles my mind that they would even allow this comic book car into the game. I’ve been a huge GT fanboy since GT1, this one really hurts. There’s gotta be something better out there now.

    1. mikronimo

Real world cars requires a lot of work and money, Vision GT cars, almost none (done, in this case, from Bertone); GT6 is only a money maker waiting for GT7…

    2. Chameleon9000

I think people are taking this stuff waaaaayyy to seriously. Calm down, its not the end of the world. if you want a proper racing sim, go play AC or something. PD wont mind; they obviously aren’t in it for the money as much as some think.

    3. mikronimo

@Chamaleon I’m not mad about that, but simply i find really stupid that “a real drive simulator”, with a really good physic engine and such a huge potential, keeps going on with these “non real cars and race system”; i like so much to drive cars in GT, but do not like the unreal race system, and not so much this fake/cartoon cars…

    4. LeastResistance

Thanks. I realise now my mistake. I thought this was a genuine design application for the next road going Bertone-penned Fiat front wheel drive ‘sportscar’. I was like ‘it’s going to be a ‘mare in Tesco’s carpark’…

  3. Tuppence870

A lot of people are dismissing this one because its looks too crazy to be real, but these people need to realise that the craziness may be only skin-deep. Underneath those messy body panels and neon strips there may be a perfectly normal and functional powertrain.

You’ve also got to respect how important this concept is to Bertone (not just Gran Turismo). These are the guys who designed the Miura and the Stratos, but last year Bertone was bankrupt, likely to never design another car. This vehicle represents the rebirth of a new Bertone and its success or failure may determine whether this revival will survive.

  4. SVPSkins

As much i like the classic styling from Bertone more, this thing looks bonkers and look forward to trying it out at some point.

  5. Dr Fourtrack

So, it has three wheels at the back and one or two at the front. (I’m not sure if there is a groove in the front wheel or it is two side-by-side)
And it looks like the drivers-eye-view is very limited.
But i still can’t wait to see what it drives like.

  6. ccaranna

First impression is ‘weird’. Reminds me of an insect, too. The colors resemble a fly. Nevertheless, it’ll be fun trying out.

  7. Blood*Specter

Overall it looks like an insect. From some of the close up views I see one of those battery powered things used to shave the lint off your clothes.

Way too futuristic for me. I’m sure it totally electronic and therefore boring.
But I do share the desire with some of us to drive it…………..ONCE.

PD what in the hell is wrong with providing some real world cars? Is GT7 that close that you cant create any more racing and production cars for GT6? How about re-working one of the RUF’s and making it premium? Wait a minute….how about making ALL the RUF’s premium.
And updating the model offerings? What are you people doing?

  8. LR-MR-Cole

Thats it im done with GT6. Untill they start giving us real cars and not cars that are mistaken for the next batmobile. Guess I will wait till GT7 for new cars and ok engine sounds.

  9. Scheer

OK, so it looks like Batman has a new ride. I’m just glad that Bertone is still a thing, having owned a couple of their creations based on the wacky Autobianchi Runabout concept (Fiat X1/9, why u no in GT?). Nobody who looked at the initial sketches of the Deltawing ever thought it would turn a wheel but it made it to Le Mans. You could be driving something like this in a few years.

  10. JKgo

…………This is the first time I’m having a negative reaction to a VGT, uhm, car.
    I’ve felt love, indifference and everything in between, but man, this is butt-ugly. Batman wouldn’t be seen dead in one of these, what with day-glo (neon?) strips, multiple phallic extensions, and those decals…..{shudder….}

  11. DYLAN777-is-not

Oh my god. This is beyond beyond awesome!!! Now THIS is concept! This is original looking! All those box design cars are so unoriginal(still awesome and good) but this is sheer car enthusiasm! It’s up there with the Chaparel and X1 in oringality and imagination! Can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait!

  12. pokemonfan58

This comment section is going to be full of comments about Batman. Remember people, you’re all not Batman. XD

  13. colj00

much better than some AWD 700 hp boring sedan or hatch thing that ill only drive once, to unlock it…

at least this thing will have longevity in the online community, just from its wackiness.

    thumbs up from me

  14. Croatian_STIG

OH MY GOD I remember having a toy Hot Wheels car that had the same wheel layout as this thing! lol

    1. Obelisk

I have that HotWheels car. The red one with the paper thin front wheel and the three thick rear wheels?

    2. Obelisk

I think I still have that thing! Time to pull out the Matchbox 48 car cases to look.

Update: Not in the four boxes.

Update update: Found my Whatta Drag car, but not the car you mentioned…I think it went into storage.

Update update update: After rage searching the Wiki, I’ve identified the car. It was a 2006 model called the QuadRod.

  15. mister dog

What the hell is that thing, Batman wouldn’t be seen alive in it (unlike the other vision GT’s which come straight out the batcave). Looks like a cockroach with wheels.

  16. thegt500

What in the hell !!!! Waaay too sci-fi for a serious racing sim, let alone ‘the real driving simulator’
What’s it powered by ? The tears of a unicorn…….. Oh, wait, I know. Someone’s been watching the movie Monsters Inc and instead or using the screams of scared kids for power, it’ll use the anger and frustration of GT fans who are waiting for the broken online and quick match modes to be fixed, plus the missing Course Creator to arrive to power it !!!!
PD should be focussing on what really matters in regard to finally finishing GT6 rather than handing out fantasy trinkets and baubles that, let’s be honest, will never see the light of day in real life any time soon….

    1. MeanElf

Do you feel better after that?

I would have thought that such a hardened GT fan would know that PD do not make these, or are responsible for them, indeed, the amount of work they put into transferring the concepts to the game is in proportion, negligible.

    2. thegt500

If it takes little time and effort to render a manufacturers fantasy car, why is it the VGT release schedule is behind ? I’m no coder, but I’d think it’s not a just a simple matter of taking a design and manipulating a bunch of pixels and polygons to make what we see and drive around a track.
I know it’s not PD who design the VGT, but surely they should have some say as to whether allowing such pie-in-the-sky fantasy vehicles into the game. Take the Chaparral 2X for example, a vehicle powered by firing a laser at what equates to a pointy wok for motive power ! This kind of stuff should be left to the WipEout genre and not be included into what is supposed to be a ‘serious’ driving / racing sim.
Another thing is the driving physics of most VGT’s is terrible. It’s as if there’s no thought put into how they should ‘feel’ Most of them cannot have the suspension tuned to an individuals liking, leading me to think PD spends more time making the ‘not available in the shops’ car look good, rather than making it something you’d want to drive more than the one time you do to win it in the seasonal event.

    3. Aussie_HSV

I won’t try to be a smart-arse here because I don’t have a full run-down of what exactly can be adjusted.
But for future reference, only 4 of the 13 available VGTs cannot have suspension adjusted.
Namely the Nissan, Toyota, Chappy, and Infiniti.
As I say, whether there is more involved than just ride height I’m not in a position to state.
But I have a ‘Yes’ against suspension adjustability for all other cars.

  17. infamousphil

    Nope… no thanks

No hating here. Just rather drive a new Viper racer.

I get it. It only costs PD time to render VGT cars. Great PR campaign. Must remember, its only business, nothing personal.

Still no course creator, livery stickers… and bspec leaves me wanting more usefulness. Midway is a nice addition… took them long enough.

I guess PD digs free stuff as much as I do. Never been as bored with GT as I am now. Still manage to turn it on to grind out credits for expensive stuff. Next up Chaparell 2D ’67 and Ford GT40 ’69.

Have fun with your new car, playa(s). I’ll probably see y’all at RouteX wringing them out ;)

  18. BrunetPaquet

That car… me and dad’re gonna have one helluva blast driving it.

Most insanely awesome looking VGT yet.

Oh no… I praised Gran Turismo, I’ve got two stars of notoriety with the GT hater force for saying that… oh no, now I’ve got 4 stars… They’re sending ROFLcopter who shoots hate rockets…

*puts on hater blocker shades, notoriety goes back to zero.*

Yep. Works everytime. **** the haters.

I’m rarely eager for a VGT and I’m gonna enjoy this one.

  19. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

    Helicopter Apache on 4 wheels.
A new kind of a mass of destruction weapon which that ( the corners ) are about to run away from it’s shape LOL
It’s like a demon machine out of a nightmare XD
Kinda reminds me also of a hand hair-dryer XD

  20. dddsprayshop

Alien meets GT6, I almost see the alien metal retractable mouth coming out of the front, looking at the first picture.
I did not drive the delta wing ever, i have it, but now i’m forced to drive this type of car-thing when it’s released.
Those two little wingies, just waiting to lift of and go to a galaxy far far away.
Big Scifi theme here team bertone.
I like it but also think that it is really out of place in this game.No wait, GT6 has the moon special event, sooooo it kind of fits there.
Oh Oh, Hotlap at the moon?

  21. SF Monza

It’s a futuristic Deltawing, probably powered by fusion or the simply powers on the confusion of GT fans. Completely bizarre but interesting at least

  22. DSUjoeDirte9

This is so crazy looking I actually kinda want it. Which is wierd to say because I hate on mostly every VGT car.

  23. OpticZero

Keep ’em coming, PD. Don’t let the haters dictate what new cars you release. If it were up to many of them, all there would be are muscle cars from the 70’s with no promise for the future. Keep looking forward and let the haters only look into the past.

  24. CSLACR

So Driveclub releases a Lamborghini DLC pack, Gran Turismo delivers a free trike. Not a real trike, a fictional trike. Nice.

  25. Kurei

Assetto Corsa: Giving the people what they asked for.
Gran Turismo: Going further & further away from reality & realism.

You had a good run PD, but you should stop while your (barely) ahead of yourself.

  26. Swagger897

Never will I ever want to see a Lamborghini, Alfa, or brought back to life Lancia look anything like this…

    1. Aussie_HSV

‘Soon’ isn’t exactly a PD exclusive.
It’s about as common as Nitrogen.

Time to drop this silly school-boy dig isn’t it?

  27. Makkan786

I hate vgt with a passion but this omfg it looks amazing i hope it has rockets so i can shoot noobs out of my way!!!!
