Finally got my workstation machine up and running (was sold a lemon 5900X and had to go through a month's worth of RMA) - and have downloaded stuff like RTB, Blender and 3DSimED in an attempt to learn the basics by fixing issues with a few tracks.
I'd like to get deeper into track modding, but it's unclear on where to start and which tools are needed to do specific things. For example, I've had someone tell me 3DSimED is required to alter a track's grid.kn5 (i.e. pit lane and timing), but somewhere else I read that there is a way to do it from the kseditor. Unclear which is right, and lord is 3DSimED a clunky, anachronistic piece of software (with a dead support forum - not helpful).
Anyone with expertise on this sort of stuff, shoot me a PM if you have the time. Thanks.
And to follow up on "things that need work that I'd like to work on", tonight I drove DB_1973's Summit Point for the first time:
Summit Point Raceway
Here is the 2.2 version of Summit point main. Please do a clean install!! **Tested and working on CSP1.79 and higher. Should work on vanilla now too. 32 pit boxes grass fx rain fx night lighting AI 4 camera sets **(credits: @racealot &...

With CrisT86's texture update - which, spoilers, can't gloss over the issues.
The track is built by LiDAR data, and you can tell - going by the real-life onboards, the track accuracy itself is really good.
Everything else really is not, though - it really, really needs a 2025 overhaul. The track doesn't shade properly with the "Track Adjustments" CSP parameter active, the visuals are really rough, the textures are poor, the grass and side details look fake, the road surface is unnecessarily grainy and bumpy, the kerbs look and perform like they're from Golf With Your Friends, and on and on.
This is a cool little LiDAR track - can't let that data go to waste - that could really use some love. Just figured I should put it up on the radar for those who may be able.
And, as said in the post I'm replying to, I may be a total beginner, but I'd be open to helping with track stuff for those that need it.
Cheers.
