Forza Horizon 3 Up for GOTY Award

turk1993
Like a sunburst, turk1993‘s Audi R8 flashes across the Australian landscape in Forza Horizon 3.

It would not be the end of a calendar year without the proverbial “best of” lists; and, lo and behold, one such list has emerged with a contender from the racing genre in the mix.

TrustedReviews.com ─ a website which seeks and critiques all things tech ─ has announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Overwatch, and Forza Horizon 3 have made the shortlist for its 2016 ‘Game of the Year’ award. Compiled by reader votes, the disparate trio will now be scored and a winner chosen by the TrustedReviews staff.

This is not the first time a Forza title has found itself in the running for a TrustedReviews accolade. In 2014, Forza Horizon 2 was up against the likes of Dark Souls 2, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and others in the same ‘Game of the Year’ category. Playground Games’ Xbox One debut withstood its sword-wielding competition and rode home with the honors.

On Nov. 17, TrustedReviews will announce the winners of all 26 categories, along with Readers’ Choice selections.

So, do we at GTPlanet agree with the TrustedReviews audience that Forza Horizon 3 is award-worthy material? In terms of the overall gaming landscape we can’t say — there’s so many titles out there, but our own Kyle Patrick’s review found that “Playground Games is offering up the most towering, tastiest burger in town.” Yum.

Earlier this year, however, it wasn’t a Forza racer receiving the recognition.

In August, we reported that TIME had named Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec one of its ’50 Best Video Games of All Time.’ Applauded for its “endless championship events framed by thrillingly realistic physics and painstakingly replicated visuals,” Polyphony Digital’s 2001 release landed at spot 45 on a list that isn’t likely to be tweaked anytime soon.

What do you think of the TrustedReviews reader picks? Will Forza Horizon 3 win it all? Provide your thoughts by leaving a comment below.

It is a very good game indeed, but GOTY? No. It didnt wow me like Horizon 2 did back in the day. It is really well made but at the end of the day its just more of the same. Best racing game 2016? Propably, yes. But for the first time since the first Horizon i have no urge to get the dlc packs. Seems im bored by arcade racers and all into sim racing today. Good thing Kunos is taking such good care of Assetto Corsa on console. Oh, wait…

My opinion is certainly not the popular one – I can’t stand the Horizon series and have no affinity for that type of racing game. But to each their own

The Horizon series take me back to the days when NFS was still a thing, a casual racing game with good content and that’s how I play it :P for Sim racing I go back to Pc with PCars and Assetto but as you say, each to their own.

And I thought that TIME was out of their mind for that choice… Of all of the racing games that has ever been made they chose GT3??? Even if Gran Turismo deserved to be on that list (and I agree the series as a whole absolutely does… So does Forza for that matter…) they should have chose GT4 or GT6 for the honor… GT3 like GT5 was seemingly incomplete as a title. And just like GT6, it was GT4 that capped the PS2 generations Racing title with the best of that consoles history. For them to choose GT3 to hold the banner of best of the series (which they basically were doing) it would seem to discredit the list entirely. Anyone who would make that decision doesn’t know the genre and is therefore not fit to be making those decisions. And after-all…. This is simply MY opinion. :)
