Gran Turismo 15th Anniversary Celebration and Presentation: May 15th at 15:00 GMT

The future of the Gran Turismo series is set to be revealed Wednesday, May 15th, at a major media event hosted by Sony at Silverstone Circuit.

A formal presentation will begin at 15:00 GMT (click here to convert this to your local time), where Kazunori Yamauchi – GT’s creator – will be making “exciting announcements” about Polyphony Digital’s latest projects to over 80 international media representatives in attendance (including me!).

The event will last throughout the day, with over nine automotive manufacturers (plus Red Bull) participating, five GT Academy champions providing lots of on-track action, and there will be a few more surprises, as well…

Our Gran Turismo 6 forum is also bustling with more discussion on the day’s events and, as always, keep a close eye on GTPlanet’s home page for all the major announcements as they are revealed!

This sounds more to me like GT 5.9 than GT6. Improved user interface, well yeah! How about a completely changed, different user interface? A compact game engine, for flexibility to expand with DLC… LOL.

  2. BHalpen

Doesn’t really seem like any kind of “new” details! So, 7 new tracks… what are they? 19 new layouts… hmm, how do you figure? Maybe cause Silverstone has so many layouts! OMG, please not all those old standard cars from GT5 again! Anymore F1 cars? How about day/night and weather transitions for all tracks! Will we see Audi R18? What kind of improvements to the course creator? Details…

    1. SavageEvil

F1? Doubt that highly as I think that PD won’t waste money on that License, the two Ferrari’s are enough if you ask me. I would however want to drive the FGT in fully premium outfit complete with working steering wheel data info. Good lord I already saw the S7TT in the video, so I know we are in for a treat. How deep does the tuning go, well the uncovered stuff by sorg may prove useful as to what we may see in GT6. Only courses I know of as definite are Silverstone, Bathurst, Willow Springs and possibly the return of Seattle. I definitely hope they include more Super GT cars from the likes of Lamborghini, BMW, Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren and Porsche(yes they can it’s a separate license I believe, I hope). Might see that GT3 GTR that Jann drove last year, the LMP2 that Lucas drove too. So many things can be added, but 1,200 car count of all premiums is a freaking feat if that is true!

    2. scobra1cz

SavageEvil: I hope for some Porsche, but there is a problem with Porsche – Microsoft have or had semi-exclusive license, like Sony have semi-exklusive license for Ferrari…

  3. KilzoneStrife

    Kaz… If the
    7 tracks
200 race cars/Road cars are what seperates GT5 from GT6….
    I love GT… but, I just cant buy it…
Ive gotten every GT at launch.. but Its starting to be clear… they (If the press release RUMOR is to be true), they have alot more DLC tracks and cars their going to release on GT6..

I’ll just buy a PS4 at launch and wait for GT7.
    DriveClub DOES Not interest me..

I hope the garbage rumors arent true..

    1. oneloops

7 tracks are not enough for 3 years of work, i hope GT6 will have a great step forward in simulation and sensations. It’s not posible to keep the same physics, there’s always a development of that when you work in a simulator.

    2. oneloops

Lucas Ordonez said 1 year ago that GT6 will have a hugh amount of new tracks, so i believe his words as a near contact with Yamauchi.

    3. SavageEvil

If it’s all premium cars then sign me up, with tighter physics and day/night plus new courses added…this is what GT5 should have been if it weren’t for Sony’s meddling. GT6 is a definite buy if it rights all the wrongs of GT5 and throws in 200 more new cars to the mix, question is are they all of the same level of detail(I for one think that 1200 is a bit high but some DLC models of standard to premium cars appeared in GT5 so it’s very possible they have GT5 entire catalogue fully premium which is awesome since there are autos I wanted to drive as premiums). Now if this is GT6 I will preorder this game stat, because I just love me some GT. I hope they sorted that online thing, I’m guessing they have real leaderboards now and with the way PD actually takes care of their game post launch it going to be one sweet ride.
Let’s just wait until after the event has started before we all go nuts.

    4. KilzoneStrife

Lukas Ordenez MAY have seen compleley finishd DLC tracks… that are already made, but would need to be purchased later.
I HOPE im wrong.. I really do.
Everyone does that these days.. I just thought PD was better than that..

  4. SnakeOfBacon

Only a few more hours now! Too bad it’ll be 1AM in Australia when the show starts, guess I’ll grab the latest news tomorrow morning

  5. karma996

    Sorry… submit link… the news:
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced Gran Turismo 6, the latest version of PlayStation’s best-selling franchise, will be released in the holiday season, 2013. The news was revealed today by Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at an event held to celebrate 15 years of the top-selling series.

“GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface,” a press statement read.

“A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content.”

The game is also set for connectivity with devices such as smartphones and tablets for social and community functions.

All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 will be retained in GT6. But notable additions to the line-up of historic cars, road cars and the latest race cars, brings the total car list to 1200 at launch, with new cars set to be continually added online.

Several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels will be available for almost all cars, and players can personalise their own custom cars in-game as well.

The UK’s Silverstone Circuit will be one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them being new.

New tracks are also set to be made available online, while the course maker has also seen improvements.

The press statement confirmed that the GT Academy series, which sees Nissan and Sony team up to find real racing drivers, will be returning.

Other notable partnerships in the development of GT6 have been with tyre manufacturer Yokohama Rubber and suspension company KW Automotive.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” explained Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit.

“Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.

    1. gtone339

Total no. of cars 1200 at launch? Is Standard cars from GT5 carried over to GT6? Not all premium models??

    2. BaconDrift

Hopefully they release this on PS3 as I will be pre-ordering it the moment it is available fro pre-order!

    3. TokoTurismo

I’m not believing that until I see the event itself first. Those morons from that site, so annoying…

    4. KilzoneStrife

Karma, its 2PM GMT now. The event starts at 3pm. Are you BS’Ing?
Jordan, dude, is all this true?

    5. scobra1cz

oneloops: I hope they have invested rest of the time to remake standard cars to premium… Otherwise i am not going to buy this game.

  6. Tenacious D

This kind of stuff is what has made May worth suffering through.

Thank you Kazunori-sensei for fifteen wonderful years of Gran Turismo. And thank you Jordan for the site, the hard work to make it what it is, and the on the spot reporting. You lucky dog! ;D

    1. WilliamsRCN92

Now THAT is what I would call, “unexpected.”
Something that PD has been pretty good at lately.

  7. UrieHusky

With all this hype I’m actually sort of hoping they reveal nothing about GT6 just to watch the fallout

    1. eran0004

That would make GTPlanet implode and collapse into its own core, forming a singularity which would crunch the solar system and be the end of the world.

In case that would happen, we only got 4 and a half hours to do all the things we need to do before the end. Suddently, the waiting got a lot less dull!

  8. KilzoneStrife

Will Jordan be tweeting stuff before the event?… Like… maybe spotting a PS4 dev kit set up with a GT sticker slapped on the side of it? :P

    1. eran0004

Maybe PD brought all their secret plans and keeps them fully exposed on a badly guarded table? If this was World of Warcraft they would…

    2. Jordan

Yeah, I’ll be tweeting random stuff on @GTPlanetNews. I’m still not sure if I’ll be able to do a live-blog, but if so, it will be available here in another post.

  9. Tvensky

I love that feeling… the feeling of a little kid waiting for a present…. never gets old!!!!!

  10. mr_pepps

    My selfish wants for GT6:
    All previous tracks with time/weather
    Premium RuF and more supercars

    That

    is

    all

    :-D

Five and a half hours to go….

  11. Kratos_Q8

    today in GT6 trailer :

    -event creator
    -A spec rally
    – supra RZ premium
    – realistic AI
    – realistic cars sound

  12. WangansGodHand

Vegeta! What does the scouter say about the amount of automotive manufacturers attending this event?

  13. Hentis

I’ll just have to read bits of it during my tea break as well as when I get in from work 3 hours after it starts.

  14. hairystig

I have a horrid feeling this whole event is just going to be the announcement for gt academy 2013 and make no mention of GT6 :-\

  15. DarkMagicPerson

Awww yuss. All of this excitement is reminding me of all the other times I was hyped for a new GT game. I’m ready for GT6!

  16. vr6cas

@moparmanmike whats up man I see you from around my way, I run my GTI VR6 at cecil too. im about 30min away across the bridge in aberdeen, Harford County, send me a friend request on psn_vr6cas.

  17. HuskyGT

You know what would be funny? That they announce that they will announce the next GT during the E3, and during the E3 they just release a 30 second trailer with no gameplay or any hint about GT6 saying that they will give news soon. Two years after, GT6 gets a possible release date XD That or just some GT Academy thing…

Still, I’m not sleeping tonight. Can’t wait.

    1. GTP_sahkojanis

Probably not. If GT6 is indeed a PS3 title, it’s likely due to its having been in development for a while now. As it’s probably based on the GT5 engine, it’ll heavily rely on optimizations made for the PS3 architecture. Converting those optimizations to the x86 architecture in the PS4 would take a non-trivial amount of time, so that’s probably not an option. Hopefully we won’t have to speculate after 1500GMT.

  18. Synapticgap

We had GT on Playstation, GT2 on Playstation, GT3: A-Spec came out for PS2, which is why I bought a PS2, followed by GT4…

Kept thinking from release to release why PD keeps changing the track lists…

But to have only ONE GT title released before Sony makes another Playstation is simply unheard of, this absolutely needs to be addressed

    1. Tallgeese69

PS3 has had Gran Turismo Prologue (the bastard child LOL) and GT5 don’t forget so if you think about it GT6 may not but this is just my opinion.

  19. Quakebass

Now, this is MY personal opinion. I understand others have differing views.

I want GT6 on PS4 – my ps3 is dead and dying. I can fix the thing, but it’s an annoying, multi-hour process to do so, and every time I do, it’s lifespan shortens, making me have to repair it more and more frequently. I can come by a new motherboard for about 75-100$ and not have to deal with this, but I’d still have to crack it open, and it would SUCK if I accidentally came by the wrong motherboard – and there’s a lot of different models to mix up. Then, once I do, I’d be out of hard drive space. I only have a couple hundred MB left, and there isn’t much I want to delete – just music, really. Getting a bigger hard drive would be a pain, as I’d have transfer data somehow. It isn’t that I want the save files, it’s my PSN info I can’t transfer if I just simply get a 160 GB backwards compatible model – I’ve gotten a bunch of DLC I wouldn’t be able to use.

I’m planning on getting a PS4 ANYWAYS – so GT6 on PS4 would just be a drive to get it earlier. It’s just much more worth my time to get a PS4 to play my favorite game rather than maintaining a piece of junk to do so. There’s all sorts of stuff that’s exciting me on the PS4, and GT6 on PS3 would just hold me back.

And if GT6 is on PS3? I’ll take it as-is. Either I’ll look into fixing up my ps3, or just get a new one and deal with the lack of PSN download transfer. Or, I’ll come by a PS4 and just stream GT6 – as that’s what the PS4 is supposed to be capable of. I’d just rather have a hard copy. It would seem PD would have more freedom for updates and DLC (and I’m not talking day one DLC or online pass BS that CM and EA use – content that could’ve just been in the game on day one. I mean DLC that’s actually ALL NEW content, like in FM4) on the PS4… But I could be wrong.

It’ll only be a small disappointment for me if its on PS3… But that’s probably because I’m lazy and I don’t want to put in the effort of fixing up my PS3 anymore… XD

    1. BkS

THERE IS SOMEONE WHO EXISTS, WHO HAS THE SAME PREDICAMENT AS ME!!!!

Welcome to my world. My PS3 has been collecting dust for months now, I miss GT5 but I can’t be bothered to fix it.

    2. GUMP07

Sony will fix your ps3 for $99.00 usd. At least I had them fix one last year for that price. I paid online at sony’s website and they sent me a box and a shipping label.

    3. faraga

I had my PS3 die on me one and a half year ago, kept it going by cooking it in the oven a couple of times. At some point I just gave up and bought a slim. Then, I revived my old PS3 one more time and use the option to transfer everything from one PS3 to the other by connecting them with a LAN cable. No data was lost that day and my gaming experience is exactly like before, only with an uglier console with a noise disc drive.

    1. HuskyGT

      – 1 liter coffee mug. Check

      – Extra strong espresso coffee beans. Check

      – Pizza Hot Pockets. Check

      – The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Check

This better be worth it, PD!

    2. infamousphil

I just cain’t help grinning while reading these excited posts. I used to be like you guys. Sweet dreams yall. I’m off to bed ;)

    3. HuskyGT

      @ infamousphil

I know what you mean. I try my best to keep up the excitement on GT, thought it’s hard. I’m in my 30’s and it’s hard to feel the way I did back in the GT1 or GT2 times. But you gotta keep the excitement up to keep the game alive I guess XD

    4. infamousphil

This game will always thrill me, l’m sure. I already expect a whole enchilada then everyone else puts in their two cents. It becomes a bit much. When was the last time anyone produced more than 20% of hype in it’s final release?

  20. vr6cas

The car under the tarp I believe is the new ferrari F12, the 599 replacement. Look at the shape, its pretty close.

  21. vr6cas

Im not going to jump aboard the hype train just yet, im going to wait til I hear something from the man himself, Mr. KY. Til then il just be waiting at the station. lol, but In all honesty I do hope we get some news on our beloved GT, lets just hope that for the past year all the silence was just the calm before the storm. Lets hope for hurricanes, tornadoes and blizzards but like I said im waiting at the station so I wont get mad if its a little wind and rain. Best believe if we do get some good news Im all aboard for the ride to GT6!

    1. moparmanmike

Would be pretty fitting wouldn’t it? And pretty surprising judging from the comment section since that screenshot has been released.

    2. moparmanmike

I would be happy with more american muscle and classics, true 1/4 mile races with real dragstrips, more tuning options with licensed performance parts, and the Sebring track and the new Baltimore road course. And if they do do 1/4 mile the cecil county dragway! Though I may be biased being from just outside of Baltimore, lived a mile from sebring international raceway in sebring florida and live a mile from and grew up on cecil dragway. Plus I’ve ran at sebring and used to run at cecil weekly.

    3. HKSBro92

Dude, that’s a TERRIBLE guess. I’m looking at pics of the car. The shape doesnt match at all.

    4. tpark103

Nah its Def the 599 the only body line I can’t figure out is the front quarter panel. I’m struggling with the car in the video @ 0:20. I’m racking my brain checking my tweets. Ugh

  22. QuikSlvr223

Okay, someone needs to figure out the car under the blue wrap of the event poster before the actual event. It’s a bit hard to identify. The nose looks like it’s from the new Acura NSX that PD has been making us drool over for the past millennia (or so it feels), but the rest of the car looks like a Toyobaru, except for the hood, which is longer than it is on the actual Suyota. I just want to have this figured out before the event.

    1. Quakebass

That, and also the white car at 0:20 – 0:21 of the teaser video… I have NO CLUE what it is, and I’m usually good with modern super cars!

  23. oneloops

Off-line hardcore championships would be great, with hard qualifying, and very hard IA (i don’t want to put sport or confort tyres to my racingcars anymoreeee !! :)

    1. infamousphil

Returning to competing WITH our Bspec drivers would be appreciated. Also, it would be nice if we could setup rooms to INCLUDE our Bspec drivers, to help fill in the field.

    2. sibbystiggy

Couldn’t agree more, it’s the only thing that would improve the gt experience for me, better Ai and being able to use Bspec or Ais in online, I’m more concerned about this then body kits or graphical improvements etc.

  24. churto

They will release the Bathurst track because the track is awesome nobody in Australia plays GT enough to warrant a party down under

    1. gtone339

Starts at 4pm bst [UK], over here in NZ it begins at 3am!! lol Just going to sleep until tomorrow morning.

  25. infamousphil

I expect nothing less than than a return of all cars from the GT series, revisiting all locales, Porsche, livery and six bolt wheels for the Vipers ;)

    1. Ferrari Alonso

Wat about the Enzo from Gemballa, the Maverick or something like that i think they called it.
      It looked nice.

    2. HuskyGT

Six bolt wheels for the Viper!!! YES, PLEASE! Although I don’t think it will happen :P

But anyway… Screw EA and his Porsche license. Let’s have some old Premium Rufs and new models as well.

    3. Ferrari Alonso

PD just give me a Singer Porsche and I’ll pay you in full before GT6 comes out.

Ps: give me more Ferraris too :3

    1. oneloops

A gt6 trailer will be out in youtube after 30 min or 1 hour after the event begins for sure.

    2. Pit Crew

Jordan promised to keep us updated. Hes got a busy day planned including, according to him, hands on time with a new game, and a possible interview with Kaz. Its on like buttered PopCorn. Arghhh did I just say that? “Pit Crew ducks to avoid thrown tomatoes”

  26. diegorborges

GTPlanet is already on fire! Put more fuel! Let’s gooooo the HYPE TRAIN will get maximum speed soon!!! =D

Damn, I miss these times! GTP is the best place in the world near a new GT release!
