GT6 Online Service Maintenance Set for March 18th

alpine-vision-gt-10-46

Polyphony Digital has posted a maintenance announcement for Wednesday, March 18th, starting at 04:00 GMT/UTC (click here to convert this to your local time zone) and lasting for approximately two hours. This does not guarantee a game update will be published, though these types of maintenance notices do typically precede their release.

Of course, there are two recently announcing Vision GT project cars scheduled for release this month: the Lexus LF-LC GT and Alpine Vision GT concepts, so this would be a good time for them to show up.

We’ll keep an eye out for more details – stay tuned.

Im really disappointed at the fact that in car info in VGT lexus and Alpine no technical info is dissplayed. example engine type, hybrid, tranny locations. or any techno inovations are explained. nissain, inffiniti, subaru, bmw and benz gave alot of technical info. I guess it’s just me but I like knowing what makes the cars performance.

Hope people who are clamoring for paid DLC stop being ridiculous. Paid for DLC will be stated before it’s impending drop, there is absolutely no reason PD would spring paid for DLC after a maintenance period. I am only awaiting course creator and GPS visualizer for one reason alone. Already have my PS4 so expecting some hints toward GT7 this year.
Alpine car let’s get it on, always good to have a car free of charge, hope they sneak in another old course or possibly a new course “Sebring perhaps, hint hint PD and the option to do 2-24 hour races again.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see sebring finally added. I lived in sebring fl for several years. Lived about 2 miles from the track, right off of airport rd. I would go regularly all year, of course went to the 12 hours of sebring every year i lived there. All 3 days of it. Actually ran a few times on on the track. Once in a panoz esprate gtr, the rest in my personal car. Unfoutunetly i havent lived in florida since 2007, and didnt make it to the race this year. But i do plan on going next march, if i dont end up moving back soon.

I know forza has had sebring since forza 2, though i dont have a 360. I have been hoping for sebring in gran turismo since gt5 was announced. If it dont come on gt6 i really hope we get it in gt7!

    1. TeamCZRRacing

They’re both over there next to daan. :) Oh, and by the way, don’t mind the pile of dead trolls over in the corner. That tends to happen sometimes when daan shows up. :)

I hope they fix the broken online. The completely broken online that doesnt work ! Does PD even realise that their game is not working !!!! Its a disgrace .

My 40gb hard drive is now completely full of useless videos advertising motor companies thanks to vision gt program. If I want to play other games I have to delete gt data and download new data. It just so annoying .

Please stop forcing us to download useless vision gt videos and just give us a game that WORKS !!!!!

    I miss GT5 so much !!!

PS The course MAKER would be nice. I bought a game that was supposed to include this over a year ago!!!! Probably wouldnt fit on my hard drive though !!

Sorry for angry explanation marks !!!!!!!!!!

    1. ynot

I’m not sure what you mean “completely broken online that doesnt work”. Problem may be your hard drive is too small, internet connection, or some other issue. Online works for me and all my friends all the time. We race several night a week since GT6 came out.

    2. jackbogus

GT6 works better than GT5 ever did. Online clubs, events, a better lobby, faster loading, more cars. By yourself a decent hard drive mate! GT6 isn’t perfect but GT7 has got a one hell of a springboard!

    3. research

Yeah! Just buy a bigger hard drive so you can more happily accept these force-fed marketing videos which take up your no-longer-valuable space and time!

      Duh!

  4. GGGMotorsport

Please just fix the lobby issues, specifically the “Fixed Host” issue that has been in place since 1.16!

    1. WyldAnimal

Yes, Fixed Host Need to get corrected.
no One else can get in the Room if you set it to Fixed Host..

On-Line recently has been a test of ones patients.
Once it works it is Okay, but getting it to work, so that every driver can see every other driver..

Sometimes we start a race with 8 cars on track, and some drivers only see 3, some see 5, and some see all 8.

  5. GT_Racer22

I just want PD to fix their server problems. Since 1.16, online has been a mess. It is really frustrating. Lag spikes, disconnecting, errors, you name it. It is a must fix.

    1. Ductracer

I have problems after update 1.16, at the open lobby, when the race is ending i will logged from the server. Then i have to go out from the game and starz new. Do have anyone this problem? thank for answers

  6. blackjack

Fingers crossed they have the completion of GT6 sooner than later. Apart from wanting to have some fun with the Course creator with GPS fuctionality it would be nice to think they have all their resources focused on GT7.

  7. moparmanmike

Serious question here. How does PD make thier money? Despite what alot of people on here may think, we get alot of support for gran turismo, alot of free content, alot of maitenence and updates. All for free. Even though they said we would have alot more dlc for 6 then 5, what did we have, like one or two actual paid dlc packs?

The game has a price drop fairly quickly after release, and not too long after that went down to 20 bucks. And how many copies you think they actually sell? Anyone who is gonna buy this game already did long ago. And unlike other studios, as far as i know, this is the only game they make. And its one game every few years, yet they still continue to support it. I know they are a 1st party from sony. But all we get takes time. Takes money.

All these employees are getting paid what i would imagine a decent salary every week. Yet everything they do they give us. For free. And lets face it, gran turismo isnt exactly halo or cod. Theres not this huge following that brings casual and hardcore gamers in all the time. Where people are still buying 40 or 50 dollars worth of map packs and all for older titles. And this aint even getting into what they do with gt academy. Sure they got the nissan partnership, but i still imagine they put out more then they bring in all around.

Im not sayin i WANT to see PD go under, but its just a question that i have wondered for a long time. When all you make is one franchise, and they go years between new titles (i know of tourist trophy and that arcade racer, but those were one off games from over 15 years ago). Like how exactly do they continue to make money and why does sony continue to keep them going when they aint exactly bringing in the money like other developers.

    1. occasionalracer

Well GT6 shares probably 70+% of the coding with GT5/GT5:P which of course released in ’09 with GT:HD already having been worked on prior to that. If count all the millions in sales since then, plus GT5’s DLC I think the team have definitely raked in a profit that is large enought to sustain ongoing development and hand out many of these updates and content for free.

I am actually surprised they haven’t milked the DLC cow one bit in GT6, the actual modelling of the tracks and all the additional cars has definitively taken lots of time, but clearly they’re doing all this for free because it just helps the game and they want as good of rep as possible leading over to PS4’s GT. I think it’s wonderful they’re actively working on GT6 while for sure the biggest part of the studio is programming away for GT7, it shows they’re doing this for more than just the big one off sales grab. So many of those big studios have nowhere close to the same problem of solving physics and mathematics to get to perfection of real life replication. It’s a tremendous task I don’t think any other game besides others working on racing and perhaps flying simulation require.

GT Academy is mostly a Nissan sponsered endevour, so GT is the tool to get there which already exists, for sure they’re making some profit off that as well, most companies don’t work for negative figures. GT ain’t going under bro, they’ll be making a splash again on PS4 and hopefully sell truckloads : )

    2. Pseudopod

Polyphony probably isn’t the biggest team in the world, and they’ve made a lot of money from past games. They’ve probably either got some saved up, or some serious goodwill from their owner Sony, for all the money they’ve made them in the past. They might make a bit of money from in-game advertisements and sponsors as well.

    3. moparmanmike

Some good answers and insight on this. Even though the series is definatley a shadow of what it once was (i still play often, gt5 and 6 i bought the $100 collectors editions, and looking forward to gt7, but lets be real, after gt3 the popularity has definatley slowed), i dont see sony killing PD anytime soon myself. I think sony still sees gran turismo as the console seller it once was. So i cant see the series going anywhere.

That being said, it just amazes me, especially in this day and age with the EAs and Ubisofts and Activisons in the gaming world, that PD puts so much work and effort into their franchise. That they continue to improve and spend money and resources to offer us more and more content for free. Yes i know we still dont have some features that we were told. And theres still some issues. But most developers will grab all the money they can from you, with online passes, day 1 dlc, dlc preorders, “dlc” locked on the disc ect, and still release a crap or broken game, and do nothing about it. They got your $100+ and know they will get it again next year.

But PD seems to be about the game. About the racing community. Even though the community is shrinking in size, they are not just giving up on the game, or shoving dlc crap down our throats. (i speak of the useless and very clear money grab dlc). Yes i know microtransactions came into gt6, and like many i was angry about that and felt they tarnished the brand. But i feel it was done right. Its there but it dont have a pay to win feel. The grind is about the same as its always been.

And for that i feel that they deserve a huge amount of respect. I think PD and Rockstar are the only true honest devlopers out there anymore. They release great games, they do dlc right, and they continue to support their games. Theres no locked content. Theres no day 1 dlc. When you get dlc you actually get something that enhances the game. You get your monies worth. And like gran turismo, we are not on red dead 6, or gta 27. Each one crappier reskins of the previous. They take their time in their games. They take pride in their games. They come out with a game once every few years, make sure its quality, and continue to support it through the years with patches and free content. I think more devlopers and publishers should take note of rockstar especially sucess. Take your time, make a great game, and dont insult your customers by suckin their wallets dry on a sub par game every 6 months to a year.

    4. Sick Cylinder

The GT series are titles which sell consoles – many people won’t get a PS4 until GT7 comes out and didn’t get a PS3 until GT5 launched – I presume that translates into considerable support from Sony. I know the companies are very interlinked with Kazunori being the boss of PD and a Vice President of Sony Corporation.

    5. Johnnypenso

What exactly is “money grab DLC”? You mean where a company that’s in business to make money produces content that we want and then sells it to us? If we don’t want it we don’t buy it? You mean like that? I thought that was called commerce or business.

    6. moparmanmike

No johnnypenso, what i mean by “money grab dlc” is the dlc that no one asked for. The 1.99 skin for this gun and that gun, “dlc” thats actually locked content on the disc that you just paid 60 bucks for, stuff that was suppose to be in the game, and then taken out so it can be reased as dlc. Yet again more “skin packs”, day 1 dlc. You know the dlc that no one actually wants that they hope people will pay 1 or 2 bucks for, or things that we shouldnt have to buy, but in order to actually get the full game we paid for, we are forced to buy.

An example of PD doing it would be if you bought gt6 on release date, installed it, and found out that only nissan and may one or two other manufactors were available. And that you had to pay say .99 cents to “unlock” each manufacturer. Or you could pay 19.99 to unlock a whole region. You would be p!ssed no? Or say the course maker is announced. It was supposed to be on release. It wasnt as we all know. But now its coming as dlc! For 5.99. Alot of people wouldnt be happy would they?

Look at the crap EA does with need for speed, or evern what forza does. I have need for speed most wanted. Half the cars that are already in the game, that i see, i cant drive because i didnt pay for the “dlc”. I paid full price for half a game.

And as i said, rockstar and PD do dlc right. You actually pay for actual new content that was made well after the game was released. Thats what dlc origanally was suppose to be. Rockstar give you all knew game modes for your money. Undead nightmare, ballad of gay tony, ect. And i still dont believe there has been any paid dlc out for gta 5 yet. Not that i know of.

    1. BrunetPaquet

If they’d include an offline version of the 2015 FIA Championship I’d be happy to try it out. I know there’s already one, but… y’know, one set apart right below where the redbull challenge is right now. I’d run it over and over… )|:-3

    1. BrunetPaquet

They said these two VGTs would arrive in March, so I’m keepingvmy hopes up. Not crazily high but y’know, i’m optimistic about it.

    1. BrunetPaquet

We can only hope it’s not just 2 VGTs and nothing else, which I kinda fear will be happening. I hope I’m wrong but… let’s be optimistic.

  8. JKgo

………Ohh yes, finally – forget the Bertone KnifeKar, this Alpine IS the one I’ve been waiting for. If I get the Lexus too, I’ll be pleased but not over the moon….
    Let’s a go, Maintenance Period!!

  9. PsuPepperoni

I don’t think they would surprise us with the course maker out of nowhere. I think we’ll probably get some kind of notice before hand when(if) it’s finally ready.

    1. machine1121

I agree for the GPS-based course maker, but I could see the initial (non-GPS / GT5-based) course maker being included without notice. The GPS-based course maker has been one of the most anticipated features, and it warrants an official announcement on the GT website, a Pit Stop blog entry, and a teaser video before it comes in an update.

I really only expect the Alpine VGT in this update (maybe the Lexus). Anything else will just be a nice surprise. I’m far less likely to be disappointed if I keep my expectations at a reasonable level.

  10. thegt500

Choo Choo, the train now arriving is the new hype express !!
Seriously though, I think we’re hoping for Course Creator but I don’t think it’ll be released this time. As I see it, CC will be held back till nearer the release date of ProjectCARS just to throw a spanner in the works (old cynic that I am LOL).
It would be nice if Quick Match is sorted out as lately I’ve not been able to get a connection since the last update. I’d like to see online mode made more stable, but seeing as there’s been problems since GT5, I won’t hold my breath.
New VGT’s would be nice for those who are excited by them, but I’m not particularly fussed by them. I’d rather see newer model road and race cars released rather than the flights of fancy VGT’s that mostly only get driven in the seasonal event to win them.

  11. KasperFOX

I’d rather wanna see some of the SEMA Award cars in the game.
I remember he Ferrari, which was nominated long time ago.
Its not even in the game yet..

  12. DCybertron

The Bertone VGT suddenly made me forget that there was a Lexus and Alpine. They seem kinda tame and boring in comparison now…

Also, wasn’t the Nissan LMP1 set to release sometime in March as well?

  13. breyzipp

A few things I’m personally hoping for:
    1) Being able to use B-spec for seasonal events as well.
    2) New VGTs from Alpine and Lexus added.
    3) Something unexpected to spice up the cake.

  14. PEAGLEZ7

Is anyone else having the game freezing issue ever since the update? I would do an offline race and then try an online race and can’t because I “Cannot connect to server” message comes up.

    1. Halcyon925

That is happening to me, too. I have only tried getting on a Quick Match race, which it won’t let me find a room on.

    2. Mike_grpA

I’ve had my game freeze so badly I can’t exit the game, and the button doesn’t turn off the ps3, so all I can do is unplug it to turn it off. It started right after 1.16 update, and it’s happened at least once every day that I’ve played gt6. It worries me to have the system freeze up that badly so often. I feel like gt6 is slowly killing my ps3 now. If it does, I won’t buy another gt game again.

  15. GT_Racer22

Hmmmmmm, Jordan says they’re both scheduled for release this month, even though the only known date for the Lexus was ‘Spring 2015.’ Does Jordan know something we don’t?

    1. GT_Racer22

I know, but if the maintenance is the 18th, and spring starts the 21st…. It just doesn’t add up.

  16. gamermaniac55

Sweet! I honestly cannot wait for the 2 cars! But has anyone noticed the lexus VGT car looks like the toyota one?

    1. Obelisk

Lexus IS a subsidary of Toyota. On paper, the Lexus VGT is just a racer of a Lexus model, which probably has a Toyota counterpart.

    2. Tunerguy21

I wouldn’t be surprised if they based it on the same platform (for game purposes). If they handle similar, then we’ll know.
