GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: The E3 Special

It only happens once a year and it’s often likened to the Super Bowl, as in “the Super Bowl for gamers”. It can likened to any major event that only happens once a year that has massive appeal but at the end of the day all that matters is it’s E3!

Now that I’ve gotten the pseudo-philosophy out of the way I can be myself and simply say the following: so many games. I sat in front of my television on Monday afternoon prepared to take notes, and while I did precisely that, I couldn’t help but wonder whether or not I was in over my head and at the end of the day I most certainly was in over my head. After I quickly filled up two pages of everything that interested me I just sat back and took everything in, and that quickly proved to be the most proficient manner in getting this done.

Where does one begin knowing there’s so much to talk about after everything was said and done over this past week? The obvious answers would be Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo, but I’m not going to go down that path because they’re the stars of the show, they’re the main features of this E3 Special Weekly Rewind. Instead I’m going to work my way down the ladder and gently work my way to the two main events. What a splendid idea, wouldn’t you say?

New PGR Title?

Let’s address this one right away as it was something I was eagerly looking to mark down on my list of notes whilst I was still doing so, and many of you will undoubtedly be familiar with this teaser image and would have instantly thought “Project Gotham Racing 5”. Yet it had no showtime during any of the major press conferences at E3, how could that be? The bad news is it wasn’t featured at E3 because it’s not PGR 5, for all intents and purposes there is no PGR 5. What Lucid Games were teasing is actually 2K Drive, a new mobile racing title that’s available on iOS devices.

Will there ever be a new PGR title? I have no idea, but if it helps Microsoft’s Game Studios does have the rights to the name – they just haven’t used it yet, and I say “yet” very optimistically.

Ryse: Son of Rome

It may not be a new Crysis game (one can only hope) but I’m fairly interested in this for the brutal combat aspect, and it looks like it’ll be a very story-driven title. I’ve had my fair share of QTE-based games over the years and I sincerely hope Ryse is more than that which is why I’ll be keeping an eye on it up to the One’s launch in November.

Avert your eyes if blood and gore isn’t your thing. You’ve been warned:

CryEngine 3 is looking as good as ever but it doesn’t look quite as good as Crysis 3, but I’m merely nit-picking because graphics a good game they do not make — for those of you not familiar with the wise ways of formulating a sentence as if you were Yoda, graphics do not make a good game.

Crytek have their quirks but I trust them to make a good game that’ll also serve as a benchmark, but if there are no aliens or some mutated freaks or even a Crysis Easter egg I am going to be sorely disappointed. That’s both me being serious and joking all at the same time.

Back to the game, I really hope there’s an upgrade system of some sort. Perhaps you’ll find new armor bits and weapons along the way after a spectacular boss encounter, and not to mention things such as the coveted and rather timeless health/life bar – what’s a game in this genre without a health/life bar? Hopefully I’m not setting myself up for disappointment in that regard because I feel it would add a great deal of depth to the game, or maybe I just want to play Oblivion and/or Skyrim right now, I don’t know!

Titanfall

Yet another game I pretty much must have. It has mechs that are called “Titans” for crying out loud, I love anything remotely robotic so my eyes were automatically glued to the set when this was presented on stage by Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella.

It has an interesting premise and what attracts me the most is the Hawken-like element with the Titans. What’s Hawken? Story for another day, but if you’re really interested either PM me or use Google because that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms that can get out of hand pretty quickly should I allow it to. At the end of the day when you look at the Titans and how they function in-game just think to yourself that it’s similar to Hawken.

As I’ve said, it has a really interesting premise but with it being a multiplayer-centric title it kind of kills some of the buzz for me, however, I’ll happily pair up with strangers if necessary to get in on this action. Here’s to hoping the gameplay isn’t linear or too linear.

While it may be competing with the likes of Call of Duty in the shooter space—Respawn Entertainment is, after all, composed of Infinity Ward DNA—it has a couple of unique cards up it’s sleeve, the most notable of which being the dynamism between the pilots and the Titans. To be in the heat of the battle on-foot and to then call in your Titan when things get a little too hairy on the front lines just appeals to me in a way no Call of Duty has since the second release when they were still based around actual wars; World War II in this case, but I digress.

Titanfall is currently exclusive to the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the PC, but a PS4 release is not out of the question.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare

“Absolutely ridiculous” should be the headline of this incredibly fun-looking game. I’ve never partook in a PvZ title before and I’m now wondering why because, again, this one looks incredibly fun. Sadly there isn’t much for me to go on because I’m really unfamiliar with the franchise, so I’ll let the video do all of the talking.

This releases in the spring of next year on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and the PC.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Kiefer. Sutherland. If you don’t know by now, Kiefer is going to be the new voice actor for Big Boss aka Naked Snake, replacing fan favorite David Hayter and while the stir it’s caused is sure to continue throughout it’s release I’m not convinced Hayter won’t have a part in the game. It strikes me a bit suspect that Kojima opted for a new VA that could convey both the facial and vocal aspects of the character while in his late 40’s, yet the Japanese VA’s have maintained their roles; why change one according to a certain criteria, but not the other according to that same criteria?

Welcome to the mind of Hideo Kojima. Now, the video:

An expanse open world environment, real-time weather, various modes of transport, and realistic passage of time are all highlights taken from the above video that will add an unprecedented level of depth and freedom to the game, and while I haven’t laid a hand on the game yet I’m already lost in the possibilities of what’s going to be possible within the game. Quite frankly, it scares me a little bit.

If you’re an MGS fan you should really stop by the Ground Zeroes thread and chat the living daylights out of some Metal Gear Solid!

Sony PlayStation 4

After being teased with nothing more than a controller in February, and the blurred teaser trailer that soon followed the PS4 has finally been revealed in all of it’s next generation glory and I have to say, it looks pretty good with it’s abstract slanted design. It really seems the gloss and matte two-tone finishes are the “in” design study for the eighth gen consoles.

It’s comparatively more compact and smaller than the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the original PS3. Now that I’m writing this my mind isn’t on the games or what’s going to be available down the line, no, my mind is on one thing and one thing only: what’s underneath the hood? I don’t mean the specifications because that’s already known, what I’m referring to is the landscape underneath it’s ABS plastic housing; the internals. I have to see what it looks like now, my inner geek won’t be able to sleep at night until this is rectified.

Let’s get to the nitty-gritty shall we?

  • No mandated DRM policy
  • No used games restrictions
  • No 24-hour “check-in” policy
  • Multiplayer now requires PlayStation Plus

The PS4 will undercut the Xbox One by $100 with a cost of $399 and will release alongside it in November of this year, and in the face of some of the utterly puzzling decisions made with the Xbox One—helped none by Don Mattrick—it will almost undoubtedly drive sales throughout the remainder of the year after it’s release.

Gran Turismo 6

Here we are folks, the reasons many of you are reading this: Gran Turismo 6 and Forza Motorsport 5. You should already know by now that GT6 demo is on it’s way the second of next month and will feature an exclusive roster of Nissan cars since it’s also the host for this year’s GT Academy competition.

Onto the game, some interesting things were shown (and confirmed) in the E3 trailer this past Monday, such things as the Nissan DeltaWing, the BMW Z4 GT3, a new photomode location, and two new track locations as well. You can read more about the E3 reveal here.

With so much on the horizon at this point I’m more glad than ever that GT6 is coming to a console I already have, largely because I’m not made of money. A new physics engine alongside the new tire, suspension and aerodynamic models are going to draw me into the game in ways I can only hope will truly outlast the lasting impression GT5 left on me.

I’m still curious what other changes have been made to the game because it looks absolutely stunning at this stage and there’s undoubtedly more to come as the year progresses.

Being the Formula 1 fanatic that I am, I’m instantly drawn to wondering how differently the F2007, F10, and even the fictional Red Bulls are going to handle with the overhauls presented. Then there are the tracks, while we don’t know much about anything at this point there are too many questions one can ask: has High Speed Ring been given any visual upgrades akin to those featured at Autumn Ring? What about the Nurburgring? It just goes on like that.

At least we can all look forward to experiencing the game next month and will be able to judge all of the nuances with firsthand knowledge, and then the long wait until it’s release begins.

Forza Motorsport 5

http://youtu.be/K-okY2QUhuI

We’re just going to jump into this by saying open-wheel racing has finally come to Forza Motorsport! It will have taken them a little over 8 years to have done it but it’s finally here, and to strengthen the announcement a partnership with four of the top teams in the Izod IndyCar Series were formed, which of course means IndyCars are coming to the game.

That’s not it because it gets even better as there’s also a partnership with the upcoming movie Rush featuring the heated rivalry between Nicki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1976 F1 season, and with that comes the classic Ferrari 312-T2 and the McLaren M23. And there’s still more to come as we progress into the summer months.

The game brings with it a partnership with Calspan which will undoubtedly improve their Pirelli tire model (if they’re still using it, I don’t recall that being specified), and with the inclusion of open-wheeled racing the suspension model should be improved as well.

Top Gear is back in the game as well and this time around all three presenters will have a role to play within the game. What those roles are haven’t been revealed just yet, but there is this little gem:

“I can tell you all three hosts are involved, they’re going to give us some awesome structure in how we present our career to players,”

That comes to us courtesy of Turn 10 design lead Bill Giese. Whether or not they’ll also be involved in Forzavista remains to be seen, but it does seem like a tall order considering every single car in the game—and there are “hundreds” of them—are now available in the mode.

There’s a mess more of information to comb through so let’s just cover some of the bases for now:

  • Never race alone: By learning how you and your friends drive, the power of the cloud delivers real human behavior. Drivatar technology creates an ever-evolving network of opponents who are always ready to race. Real tendencies, real mistakes, real victories.
  • Rivals everywhere: Every corner a new challenge, every event a new chance to win. Compete against your friends’ top times in rotating challenges for in-game credits and bragging rights.
  • Leading simulation: Racing’s leading simulation engine, developed for Xbox One in conjunction with Calspan and the world’s top automotive manufacturers, makes driving easy to learn and rewarding to master.
  • Dynamic damage: High-resolution damage modeling shows every bump and scrape. Roads accumulate tire rubber and debris. Racing has consequences; damage can stop you in your tracks.
  • Living busy worlds: Racing comes alive with fans crowding the walls, helicopters circling overhead and the vibrant hum and spectacle of race day.
  • Laser-scanned tracks: Drive the world’s most legendary race circuits and exotic road courses, captured with millimeter accuracy.
  • “Top Gear” exclusives: The world’s biggest automotive TV show teams up with the most innovative racing game yet. Take on Stig’s Digital Cousin in unique car challenges, turn a Power Lap on the Top Gear Test Track, and hear show hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May share their distinctive automotive insights throughout the game.
Now the bad news, yes, there’s bad news: there will be no dynamic day/night cycle nor will there be any weather, but with the foundations being laid for their inclusion either post-release or by the time Forza Motorsport 6 comes around there’s still plenty to look forward to.

Porsche won’t be featured at launch for the second consecutive time in a Forza Motorsport title, and there are currently no plans for their inclusion through DLC either – thanks EA. In light of that bit of bad news there comes more good news, the soundtrack for FM5 has been scored by Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Sound, which you can read more about (and plenty of other things) right here.

To talk about all things Forza Motorsport 5 be sure to stop by the official sub-forum and talk the living daylights out of it!

Closing Thoughts

I literally had no idea what I was going to write or how long anything was going to be until I sat down and began brainstorming – same as every other week. Talk about your spontaneity.

I have nothing else to add, I’ve talked enough for the next week or so. On that bombshell it’s time to end, thanks so much for reading.

Until next week, keep racing!

Pre ordered my PS4 today, along with a copy of GT6. This time if there is a GT6 special addition, I will be on it.
I just may have to dig deep and get a new rig. My F1 seat is getting old fast. And I think I’ll go ahead and pre order Metal Gear Solid because next to GT, MGS series is my fav. Sony RULES. Everything else should just get over it.

No issue with $60.00 per year to go at it on-line. And really love PS3 having GT6. Just think how advanced GT 7 will be on PS4 and more programmatic freedom. Really hope the players who never saw GT1,2 and 3 get the chance to race on Special Stage Route 11. That would be a sweet DLC.

    1. TokoTurismo

+1. I too am happy PS3 is getting GT6 as well, because if GT6 sell really well on PS3, this allows PD to have time to make GT6/7 on PS4 to be a dream come true. I honestly believe that was very smart thinking from Sony and PD imo.

I also the PS4 pre-ordered as well, there are games me and my little bro are looking forward to getting, such as FFXV and MGSV: Phantom Pain. Even though PSN on PS4 we have to pay to play online (not a bad price to pay btw), at least on PS4 we can play games freely offline which I’m very happy about. :)

  2. GT6mebe

You missed so many great games if your doing a proper E3 cover thats the real shame of the article. Its still written very well and informative.

  3. GT6mebe

Wut? Why the hell is Ryse (aka QTE the game) and PGR and Plants vs Zombies there? If your going to cover E3 at least cover the biggest announcements. Kingdom Hearts 3, FFXV, Destiny, maybe some form E3 and Ubi too?

  4. vr6cas

T-12 should of known coming on GTPlanet talking About Xbox Done and Forza was going to start something regardless of what, but hey no hard feelings T-12, we still love ya, keep doing your thing every friday. And hey T-12 when your playing forza and your titanfall just ask yourself this, ever get the feeling your being watched, lol.

@Terronium-12 “Bashing the Xbox for the most ridiculous reasons”

    Are you serious?
Console HAS to be connected online at least every
Kinect2 is ALWAYS ON and SPYING on you (feel comfortable?)
2nd hand games cannot be sold without paying a fee to M$.
Cannot lend or borrow friends games.
    $100 more expensive than PS4.
    Less Powerful than PS4.
The article reads like aa xbox fanboy has written it.

    1. HuskyGT

HAHA! I noticed the flies! I wish GT had more dirt and filth accumulation. Probably not in the level of F5 since it’s a new gen console, but you know. Cars are always too clean in GT5. Gotta make that car wash useful.

  6. infamousphil

Some clarification please. ‘Multiplayer now requires PlayStation Plus’? What exaclty does that mean?

No GT6 split screen racing w/o PSPlus?
No GT6 online racing w/o PSPlus?
If this is so… agios amigos, nice meeting you.

Or is that PSPlus statement for PS4 gaming alone. That wouldn’t bother me much as I won’t be going there prior to GT7 in 2015. Maybe a lottery winner by then. Otherwise, via con Dios, mi amigos.

There is nothing I like more than free stuff, other than stuff l don’t HAVE to pay for.

    1. HuskyGT

That will only be for online multiplayer. However, Sony themselves said it will not depend on them but in companies that decided to charge for their online multiplayer. If that’s true, then Sony games might not be the case. Beware of games from EA. those greedy bastards are sure to charge you just for inserting the disc in your PS4.

Charging you to play split-screen? I don’t’ think that would make sense.

    2. drag lab 101

Husky is telling you everything I’ve heard as well. Sony said its up to the devs on what games will require PLUS for online multiplayer. So it’s not going to apply to all games/features but I’m sure it’ll be for more of them then less requiring PLUS. Ill say again too that’s its not at all a bad deal. Everyone should’ve known it was heading this way with Sony. Plus is a great service in terms of content offered over say the vita, PS3 & PS4 games.
I’ve had both LIVE & PLUS and IMO PLUS is a much better service.

    3. drag lab 101

It adds up to less then 50cents a day… If this is breaking anyone’s bank, perhaps you shouldn’t be purchasing expensive consoles and games.
Also the difference in cost between Xbox One & PS4… If you buy PS4 over the other… Well, the money you’ll save would pay for your 1st 2yrs of PLUS.

    4. Logoncal21

PS4: you do not want to buy an EA game unless paying a bill to enter the game.
why do people even waste their money to that company? it’s not them that’s screwing us, WE are screwing ourselves wasting our money to bad desgined games. or even dlcs(which unlike Gran turismo, they charge you for TEN DOLLARS for a freakin amusement park on Sim city, and not fix the broken game. and worse, gran turismo Dlcs that you have pay costs like 1/4 of it because here on brazil they cost like 5BRL/2$.).

    5. infamousphil

Thanks for the heads up Husky and Drag. I will be purchasing GT6. But, I just can’t justify paying to connect with others online. Still hoping that it won’t happen with GT6. I love cars, but we can, as a community, experience its splendor without the expense. It’s a shame that any company belives it’s necessary to go in that direction and unfortunate that society is willing to pay, what is essentially, a corporate tax to share it online.

  7. sinbad

I quite like the idea of this, but unfortunately it’s not very well written, and clearly not proof-read at all, which is unwise. The first paragraph is just awful.

Tone down the borderline pretentious style, get a few people to read and re-read, and this will be massively better.

    1. Jared93

Oh I’m sorry; is this quick review not up to your English degree standards? Not only are you unable to detect your own screaming hypocracy; but you completely missed the point of this review to begin with. Go back and re-read what the word “pretentious” means d*****

  8. HuskyGT

I have to admit Forza 5 doesn’t look half bad. Sounds good, looks decent (still a bit artificial and arcady), although physics look terrible in my opinion. Must be fun to play for a few months, but it will never be as good as GT6.

I would’ve considered getting it, but too bad the Xbox One will suck so bad. All those restrictions are deterrent enough not to even consider getting it second-hand. Oh right! You probably can’t even do that.

    PS4 #1

    GT6 #1

    1. sangdude82

Yeah, is Microsoft trying to spy on its gamers or what :(
I was quite shocked that FM5 won’t have day/night cycle since Forza Horizon had it.

    2. HuskyGT

Yeah, I mean, it’s kinda lame that Sony will now charge for multiplayer, but at least they made an effort to keep things as they are regarding used games, online services and what not. We still have to see if the camera thing in the PS4 is also mandatory.

I rarely play multiplayer online anyway. Although with The Elder Scrolls Online coming for the PS4, I might have to get a PSN Plus.

    3. MuoNiuLa

And one more thing, Forza 5 is not even at the final stages yet in regards to physics, so maybe wait until the full game is out before passing judgement and automatically saying GT6 is better.

    4. HuskyGT

I highly doubt Forza 5 will be better than GT6 in terms of physics. Anyone believing that must have their expectations set to high.

I’m not saying Forza is a bad game. As a matter of fact I always wanted Forza 4, but buying a console for just one game is a bit of an overkill. I would love to have Forza 5, but then there is that console in which the game is exclusive for. Forza feels much better than (at least Forza 3 that I once played) any other racing game besides GT. Everything else feels broken.

But Forza 5 better in physics than GT6? Even if we haven’t tested both games yet, it’s a definitive no. We all know it’s never going to happen.

    5. Terronium-12

Do you have any idea how foolish you sound?

It’s a definitive no even if we haven’t tested both games yet? Never before have I seen a statement so devoid of logic that it’s actually borderline paranoia.

    6. Azuremen

Well, considering Forza 4’s physics are arguably better than any GT game to date, I really don’t think it will be a dramatic disparity between the two games.

But I mean, we all enjoy GT5: The Real Understeer Simulator.

    7. HuskyGT

What the hell’s wrong with you? I never said I was against any of both games or that I was “paranoid” about one game being better than the other.

Are you mad bro? Sounds like you’re a bit sour because people are bashing on your little article. Better take a break and chill.

    8. vr6cas

LOL@HuskyGT and T-12, I mean I can’t blame T-12 for talking about forza because we don’t have much to talk about GT. Wow two new cars to talk about gets old quick, and T-12 to be a moderator you do seem a little butthurt, because as a moderator calling people names is a little funny. But hey your entitled to your opinion too… The game The crew and The division looking good to me, as well as the next gen EA sports game, Madden, NBA live and UFC. Playstation 4 FTW!!!

    9. HuskyGT

Yeah, I mean, Come on T-12. I was just stating my opinion on how both games would compare in terms of physics and you call me a fool? I can understand you like Forza 5 and the XBox One more, and it’s fine. Just don’t let these people get into your bad side just because they don’t like what you wrote. It’s just a bad case of herd mentality. One started it then the rest are following with no apparent purpose.

    10. MuoNiuLa

The problem is, you’re basing your opinion on nothing. And somehow you’re able to predict the future, and say FM5 will have worse physics than GT6 when you have NO IDEA what both games are like in their complete forms. Your bias for GT is astounding.

    11. HuskyGT

I don’t want to sound like a fanboy, but I think it’s pretty clear and logical that GT6 will feel much better than Forza 5. Who knows? There might be surprises, but even though Forza 5’s final physics might be great, it’s highly unlikely that they will surpass GT6’s. And even if they eventually do; who cares?

Eitherway, what’s to be mad or defensive about? If you like GT better, then play GT. If you prefer Forza, then go ahead and enjoy it! Hell, if I had enough money I would get both. Both are great games in their own unique way. The only reason I never bought Forza 4 was because it would be a bit unwise to spend in a console just for one game. I really wanted it despite most people saying it was rubbish. It didn’t look like rubbish to me. NFS titles, especially the Shift series… now that’s rubbish.

Now relax you guys. There is nothing to prove here.

    12. Terronium-12

So, let me get this straight:

First it was “GT6’s physics are going to better than Forza 5, that’s just a logical (that word doesn’t mean what you think it means, by the way) conclusion”. Now it’s “Even if Forza 5 does have better physics, who cares?”

Apparently you care, otherwise you wouldn’t have made the far-fetched assumption based on absolutely nothing in the first place.

      Everything else, again, absolute foolishness.

    13. HuskyGT

Aren’t you doing the same thing Terronium-12? You’re being very careful with your choice of words, but you don’t fool me; you’re just trying to prove your point based on nothing as well. If my argument was truly “foolish” it wouldn’t be worth your time and you wouldn’t even bother to respond, but it obviously bothers you for reasons beyond me “being a fool.” Admit you’re defending Forza 5 also based on none-existing evidence.

I’m trying to be neutral and not get into a meaningless aggressive discussion here, but it seems continuing this is a waste of time. If having a the last word makes you feel accomplished or better, then go ahead. I’m done with this article.

Anyway, I keep my theory that GT6 will have better physics than Forza 5. And that’s no foolish assumption; that is almost a fact.

  9. tpark103

First time comment on the weekly review because I really enjoyed the read. It’s a great segment.

  10. DiVz

Hope there’s more to GT6 than meets the eye if the want to keep their throne. There’s only a few people out there who buy racing games for the physics and realism in terms of handling, etc. They need to adapt and cater for a wider market like forza did, but definitely not at the expense of their wicked physics =)

  11. MLRSparco

Very disappointed at GT6 at E3,I was expecting someone to come out and give details on customization, tuning, and cars, but instead they go on an on about GT Academy and show a trailer of things we already knew.Way to go guys, way to go.

    1. vr6cas

+1 MLRSparco Same here but I’m not that upset because I expected it. Some people was so excited over two new cars they showed on another trailer. I’m like really pd really. Like how many times are you gonna show the same stuff over and over. I guess we will have to wait until two days before release to find out whats really new in the game.

    2. Ferrari Alonso

Won’t they talk about that on TGS/GC like they did with GT5?
I never expected anything from GT6 in E3 other than a trailer.

  12. SavageEvil

Hey just a thought but can we get an article or something speaking about the big elephant in the room at E3. Seriously I was prepared to see new games but while some games looked nice, they haven’t really done anything really different from before. Some games drew my attention but they also gave me zero actual gameplay to go on, Quantum Break I’m looking at you. We have the usual shooter based games, actually there was a hell of a lot of them all trying to take slightly different angles but all ending up in the same place, guy with gun, blast from point A to point B, rinse and repeat. Some games focused so heavily on multiplayer that you can’t play it any other way because that is all there is to it, The Crew and TitanFall.
Where I found some interesting things was some of that indie stuff, there was this strange little 360 degree shooter and Transistor really opened my eyes looking like older generation games. For some reason I want to give them a chance before settling into the usual new coat of paint same old story games. Don’t get me wrong the new games like TitanFall, Killzone:Shadow Fall and a few others look absolutely stunning in visual appeal and Destiny looked incredible but are they going to give us something unique aside from prettier ways to blow things up and shoot? Games have a right to exist and people can enjoy what they like but how long can we go on with games dearth of depth aside from pretty visuals and oh and ahh moments.
Now on to the elephant in the room that people are ignoring. This who digital push which is being championed by Microsoft and a few others, what does it mean for us as gamers as a whole? I had a chance to read what MS license affords me with the purchase of an Xbox One later this year…I can tell you that I felt as thought they were insulting my intelligence. I have the link to it if anyone wants to read it, I did a few times and I am convinced that Microsoft thinks that gamers are idiots who are basically addicted to gaming. That we will accept any stupid rules they set forth because we desire this game only they have so much we’d sell our own rights down the drain for it.
I love gaming and I want to see gaming community move forward but if it moves in the direction MS is selling us…you will be nothing more than a renter. First question is why on earth is internet a requirement for my game console to work…that’s it..to work you must have internet! I am perplexed people shrug it off and retort I always have internet, doesn’t mean the entire world has internet nor does everyone have stable enough income or connections to support this model. MS answer is get a 360 or stick with a 360…incredible what disdain for the very people that got you to your lofty position. I’ll give anyone the link to MS license, just pm me.
So how about GTP, are we going to go into depth on the pros and cons of the alarming trends looking to set forth upon our beloved hobby?

    1. kekke2000

There are many questions that are so easy to do right but still it’s done wrong…

Why is SRF Forced On in Seasonal Events?
Why didn’t the Online Mode from GT5 Prologue make it to GT5?
Why are there so many Single Races and so little Tournaments?
Why are there no Offline Mode for the new Xbox Console?

      Why oh why…

  13. scoobyonline200

Is it safe to say that it is good to be a gamer right now?… ignore the silly fanboys fighting over which console is better and embrace the awesomeness that is coming soon. Both the Xbox One and PS4 look amazing in what they offer… I’ve been on Sony’s Side since the PS1… especially since GT1 came out. But right now there is greatness on all fronts right now. GT5 and Forza are two of the best racing games out there.. Times are going to get good on all fronts this holiday! :D

  14. AlexDug

    Hey Terronium, nice article!

I just feel like pointing out (just a little remark): I’ve seen that you’ve writtent “it’s” instead of “its” a couple times throughout the article. I won’t teach you a grammar lesson since I’m 100% sure your English is really good by the looks of it.

Anyway, will you be getting both consoles?

    1. Terronium-12

Thanks for pointing that out. It’s easy to make a couple of mistakes that I’ll look over even after I’ve proofread it.

And, yes, I’ll have all three consoles by the end of next year.

  15. Halcyon925

Leading Simulation? Good one, Turn 10.
These are things I see that say why Forza 5 won’t have “simulation”.

-That McLaren turns at high speeds perfectly fine.
    – The driver goes move his arms/hands to change gears.
    – Can’t even see the suspension movement.
    – Car doesn’t lean forward when braking.

Sorry, Turn 10, but Forza 5’s “leading simulation”, is not even looking on par with Gran Turismo 2.

    1. Moglet

I’m fairly sure that trolling is against the AUP.

If you’re not trolling, watch the video again; every single thing you mentioned in your list is countered by simply watching it.

  16. jimbo0

I gotta say I love the look and ideas behind Forza (except the Drivatar. Don’t believe I just typed the word Drivatar, I did it again!!!) i love it because I’m a massive GT fan. I’ve never played forza. I don’t intend to buy a xboxone. But I want my most treasured game (GT? to be kept on its toes and that’s where Forza comes in (amongst others on PC). So thank you Forza, thank you for being a worthy rival and long may it continue for all our sakes.

  17. DSUjoeDirte9

i know this is Gran turismo & forza forums mainly but OMG at the new MGS. Totally getting at midnight realease without a dought.

  18. marktyper

I’m just hoping that Drive Club and The Crew will handle good with steering wheels of Logitech. I’m not expecting that it will feel like GT5 or GT6 but atleast tolerable enough like F1 2012. NOT the handling of MCLA nor TDU2

  19. hobanator24

I’m surprised you didn’t say anything about the new NFS game or the new came from Ubisoft called ‘The Crew.’ I really hope that The Crew finally knocks EA & NFS of it’s high horse with it’s cross county landscape & variety of cars & customization options. Still, a great article nonetheless

    1. Terronium-12

The Crew was on my list of things to talk about (and I’ve forgotten things that I’m just now remembering) but then Ubisoft ruined it with the multiplayer-only requirement.

Remembering NFS: Rivals now, I may include that later on. Thanks for reminding me!

  20. TopGearFTW

    Please, please, please.

It’s = “It is”, or “it has”
    Its = Belonging to it

I know it’s only a minor thing but stuff like that really irks me.

I’m rather pumped for the PS4 and GT6 now, definitely seems like Sony has the jump on Microsoft this time around. As for the other games mentioned here, meh, the only one I’ve seen anything of is RYSE and my historical accuracy side has been crying since then. I’ll pass.

    1. vr6cas

LOL@TopGearFTW Well you know what irks alot of people, its when you try correcting people like its kindergarden, its called go be a teacher, its that simple, grow up dude, everybody is not going to be perfect with grammer, even I make mistakes typing on this small phone, its called life. notice how many times I said “its”. lol.

    2. Conquerer

@vr6cas The moderators here as well as many users love to do that already, so why not have a double standard?

    3. TopGearFTW

      @vr6cas

Using “its” rather than “it’s” is fine(ish), especially as you say you’re typing on a phone, and can be put down to skipping out the apostrophe to save time, using “it’s” rather than “its” is literally just wrong though.

Don’t get me wrong, I normally don’t like people who nitpick people’s grammar, just I was under the impression this site’s AUP demanded good grammar from all users, not to mention staff.

I digress anyway, this article is about E3.

    4. Jordan

Guys, I know it’s fun to draw attention to errors in blog posts in the public comments, but please report them using the link that’s provided immediately above the comment form. We’ll be able to get them fixed a lot faster.

  21. ICEMAN_ZIDANE

Sony did a Perfect Job . Like every Time a New Console comes Out Sony again gave a high importance the Technology. But now say sell it for a Low Price .

All of my Xbox player Friends are saying that the x1 has failed.
Or lets say Microsoft has failed …

Less powerful + higher Price + MS politics….

    1. sailworksman

Funny how some judge “the book by its cover”. None of us will no the capability of either console, until you experience it.

    2. Pit Crew

Sailorworksman The OP makes a good point about how MS failed its fanbase though he doesn’t go in to details. XBox 1 is looking like a very restrictive console when you consider the OnlineOnly/24Hour offline limt aspect.

    3. sailworksman

That’s the point, not providing details, so we really don’t know. None of us really don’t know what to expect until the launch of both consoles. I just have a problem sometimes, what it looks like someone is favoring one against the other. But on launch day I guess we will all know.

  22. VBR

Forza 5 has “laser scanned tracks” & “high-resolution damage modelling”. Never thought I’d say this, but I’m seriously tempted to cross over to the dark side now! And those reflections on the inside of the windscreen of the dash etc look simply awesome.

    1. sailworksman

VBR, I have been supporting both FMS and GT series from the get go. You will not be dissapointed. True gearheads embrace change, and the unknown. Welcome to FMS!

    2. HuskyGT

As I said, it’s very tempting for car enthusiast of all kind, but the console kills it for me. I’ll pass.

  23. QuikSlvr223

Where’s the new Battlefront? I literally had tears of joy when it was announced. Some of the best games I have ever played, and I have played LOTS of games.

  24. Whodoyouthink

Would hate for only Forza to get the Pagani Huayra and Mclaren P1. Those are the cars I REALLY WANT! You can give me 1,200 cars but if none of them are the Pagani, Mclaren, or LaFerrari, I’ll be utterly disappointed. Yes, there will be other cars I like, but those are the cars I care about the most.

  25. georgetigra

You must be premium member for The social features of ps4…
You can play multiplayer for Free..
This is The Last new’s.. Please search it!

    1. HuskyGT

Online multiplayer will be PSN Plus only. Not a big deal if you don’t play online that often. Other than that, the PS4 is free from all restrictions that the MS thing has.

  26. maxpontiac

I can’t say I am shocked when I see the author… But with the exception of the PS4 and Gran Turismo 6, this E3 coverage looked like a XBone conference.

    1. Terronium-12

I’m sorry the Rewind wasn’t chock full of Sony-related news, or me bashing the Xbox One for the most ridiculous reasons possible.

Perhaps you’d like to rewrite this entire article with your own agenda attached and then post it? I said last week, and even a couple of times leading up to this, that it was going to be about everything that interested me, and unfortunately Sony didn’t have much that interested me.

If you don’t like it, that’s too bad.

    2. XxDARKRAIX

But the Xbone will be a waste of money Though. The games might be good (only forza) but its $100 more and no used game and u can’t play offline. And ps4 doesn’t require plastation plus, u can still play online you just can’t do Ps home, get free games and some social features.

    3. AbLoEnXd

Jack trettin has confirmed that you need a psplus account to play online games, but publishers are in charge of whether you will have to pay a subscription fee or not for free to play games. I’m not sure if that means we won’t need a psplus account if its free to play.

    4. maxpontiac

      T12 –

I never stated I wanted this review “full of Sony-related news” and I also never indicated that I desired to write the article either. I simply pointed out that this article favored Microsoft and in an obvious way.

As I said in another post, I usually avoid your Rewinds due to the fact it’s heavily influenced by your own personal tastes. Nothing personal, just not my style.

      Have a nice day.

    5. Moglet

XxDARKRAIX, try reading up on your facts before commenting here. You’re making yourself look a little bit silly sometimes.

    6. Terronium-12

“Heavy influenced by your own personal tastes.”

If that were true I wouldn’t be focusing on things that other people are doing throughout the community here, I wouldn’t have bothered to start the “Member of the Week” segment, or for that matter, any of the weekly segments that place other people (read: not me) in the spotlight.

Anything else you want to add that’s factually inaccurate?

    7. maxpontiac

Yes T12… personal tastes. You like Forza alot, I don’t. With that said, I don’t want to read about it on the News Section at GTPlanet. I posted nothing factually inaccurate as I simply pointed out that I didn’t like your MS centered E3 coverage. No worries T12, I wont read your material any longer.

    8. Terronium-12

I couldn’t care less what you want to read or like, doubly so about you reading my articles any longer.

That’s just less idiotic comments for me to deal with, thank you.

  27. FiftyBelowZero

FM5’s ‘vista trailer looks overwhelmingly amazing. Oh, and I’m glad GT6 is on the PS3. If it was on the PS4, we’d have to pay for multiplayer, like Forza.

  28. Rynogtr23

@Jordan There is a great video of the GT6 GT Academy demo that’s supposed to come out in july. It shows the 370z tuned car version at Silverstone. Would be a good idea to feature it here on GTPlanet. Search mundogt.es gt6 gt academy on youtube.

  29. Trux

Bad enough this guy added Forza but now he’s added other gaming news and vids as well.
Dude take your preaching elswhere. This site is called GTPlanet. E3 or not, this isn’t IGN.

    Let the game fanboys roll…………………….

    1. MuoNiuLa

The article is titiled “The E3 Special” and you’re complaining? Don’t read it if it doesn’t interest you. It’s that simple.

    2. maxpontiac

I usually don’t read the Rewinds because I don’t care for Forza related news, but being how this was an E3 special, I expected more complete E3 coverage and less of a Microsoft conference review.

    3. Terronium-12

Let me make something painfully clear: there’s only one person I run things by relative to what can and can’t be included in the Rewind.

Guess what? That person isn’t you.

  30. CodeName

I prefer, at the moment, forza’s original tracks. They are wayy better and beautiful. Just look at matterhorn, it’s so a bad track!

    1. the_racer100

I don’t think that way… Of course, Forza’s tracks have way more details, but, are they as immersive as GT’s? For an example, compare Maple Valley with Autumn Ring (quite similar)… Which one provides a better driving experience? While I get mad at AR’s twists and turns, the only challenging part at Maple is the ess close to the end, and trying not to hit the pit lane. And the Matterhorn showed at the E3 was just the tip of the iceberg, you can be sure of that… Even though it’s a bit amorphous, and I prefer, honestly, Eiger, it looks very good for a beta version…

    2. TokoTurismo

At least Matterhorn looks like it can be a good track for sports cars or slow cars like the Suzuki Swift, even for classic rally.

  31. Fogerty_Jr

If forza 5 were running on a 360 it would be astonishing. Since it runs on next gen, it seems pretty much disappointing, but it could be because it’s a screen caption…dunno.

  32. KYD302

Well Since this article is about all things E3 related Here is what i’m most excited for. Beyond: Two Souls, Infamous Second Son, DRIVECLUB!!!!!!, BF4(i miss the BFBC series tho), AC4, Watchdogs, GTA5, MAD MAX, The Crew(looks like a refreshing break from Sim Racing an of Course GT6!!! But i was kind of disappointed as how i was expecting to hear something about the game Project Cars an The Next Rainbow SIX game RS seems to be dead in the water they haven’t said anything for awhile which is odd because the game is slated to release this year. E3 was good this year all in all but I have to wait 2 weeks to touch GT6 i don’t know if i can wait that long not to mention i’ll be on Vacation at that time Fishing an spending my Xb1 money on beer since i won’t be purchasing the SpyBox1 anymore. An if PD starts work on GT7 before TT2 I’m going to go Postal! We should have had it on PS3 but if they where to add bikes to GT i’d be fine with that.

    1. Terronium-12

How could I forget about Watchdogs and InFamous: Second Son?

Seems I’ll be adding a bit more content after all…

    2. drag lab 101

KYD302.. I too was interested in all of those titles except AC4. I too was disappointed with no mention of Project Cars. Been a while since I’d heard any rumors/news on it. Last tid bits I’d heard was that it changed devs & was for Wii U & Xbox1 & PS4. I was also very interested in Tom Clancy: The Division.
Watchdogs looks great and has for quite a while now… I really wish they would have shown a bit more things with the game play that we hadn’t already seen. I love love the idea of Mad Max but was bummed to here late 2014 release date through IGN. Right now I’m leaning to the PS4 1st, already have a Wii U along with 19 older consoles dating back through time. Xbox 1 ill eventually get but off the bat I was only interested in Killer Instinct and the Drivatar feature from Forza 5. The Crew looks fun but I don’t expect it to be mind blowing kinda awesome… Just depends on how the whole always multiplayer online function plays out too.

    3. KYD302

T12~ it’s been along week an if your like me you’ve been watching e3 constantly i’ve been taking notes all week an living on RedBull, Heineken, Jack Links Jerky and Smoked fish. I also forgot stuff in my post haha.

Drag Lab 101~ Yeah i Forgot the division but with The Crew I’m not expecting anything more then a nice break from GT6 with some nice cars to go rob some armored vehicles an run from the police in the Raptor. It’s a vanity game imo so kinda like the MX vs ATV games it’ll be fun in short bursts. With Project cars i heard they hit there $3.5m donation for the game an last i heard they where talking about needing more. As for Forza it’s going to find it’s way to PC eventually an i would be surprised if the amount of fans leaving XBox doesn’t push turn 10 towards PS gamers in the future. I’m still upset with Sony for shutting down Zipper last year i was hoping to see a MAG2 for PS4 but unless sony does anything with it i feel it’s more than dead which is a shame because for a First game with 256 players in a room it ran rather well sure it had a couple bugs that they did try to fix in updates but for a first game like that on console it was rather amazing.

    4. drag lab 101

I hear ya.. That’s pretty much how I was feeling about The Crew as well. But I wondered since GTA5 is going to have a lot of similar style game play car features… I began to wonder should I really be interested in The Crew?
I mean it looks good, not great- graphics wise for next gen its not mind blowing. I liked the idea of the entire USA as an open world. The interviews I’ve seen with devs of it are kinda confusing in the message of an online multiplayer game that feels single player like— as they say. I’m curious for more but as days have passed I’ve been a lil on the fence.

  33. infamousphil

No new GT6 news and FM5 looking to be an unimproved 4. PGR5, the only other XBOX exclusive racer l had a passion for, is “not?“ Anyone else feel emptiness?

  34. CaddyKOP

My main question is, will GT6 even HAVE the Top Gear Test Track anymore? It seems that Turn 10 has milked the hell out of this joint venture with them, something I kinda wish PD would do as well, or at least get one of the three to do some nice commentary in certain bits.

I just hope the rights to the Top Gear Track haven’t been stolen, like EA has pretty much stolen Porsche.

    1. Syl035

Of course it will! Why ? Because they said that every track and every car from GT5 will be on GT6 so no worries about that ;)

  35. phil_75

Will GT6 have the extremely simple option of having a standing start for a Top Gear lap time or actually a standing start full stop?
Will we be able to swap cars in practice mode without having to go through about 10 button presses and ages of loading screens just for that?
Has the resolution been dropped to 720p to accommodate the extra effects or are we going to get a slide show?
    Have sounds improved?

They are the most important questions

    1. sangdude82

Kaz said that PD has improved user interface & loading times so we have to wait and see. Sounds appear to be improved a tiny bit…

  36. MOV Games

Wow, so even Forza has fully lost Porsche. Guess we wont see them in anything except those god awful NFS games for at least the next 10 years or so.

Im also Surprised (and secretly pleased) that FM5 has no Day/Night or Weather. Nice to see GT still has that big advantage left (one of few at this point).

    1. sangdude82

That’s such a shame for FM5 not to have day/night cycle & weather considering Forza Horizon had (at least) day/night cycle. I will be looking forward to see the list of cars & tracks but not sure if I will get the Xbox One because of MS’s restrictive policy.

  37. BLADErunner80

From many photos of GT6 it seems day/night cycle has spread to more tracks, hopefully all of them and with weather change too.

Really surprised that Forza 5 on a much more powerful next gen console wont have any time change at all.
I know it says they’ll be no weather change, but do they at least have wet track surface like Tksuba in GT4?

    1. BLADErunner80

Lost them to who? Xbox require you to do the same and charge more.

Unless you expect people to stop playing games because of it.

    2. Progress823

Everyone should have know that paid membership was eventually coming to Sony. $4.17 a month in USD? Cheaper than your Starbucks coffee, an extra value lard-a** meal at McDonalds, and nearly on par with a gallon of premium gasoline in most areas.

    3. drag lab 101

@ Ford.. I have both and PLUS is by miles a better deal because of content offered across several platforms. Also as Sony said in an article on IGN its going to be left up to the devs on what games will require PLUS to play multiplayer online, hinting it will not apply to all multiplayer games/ content.

  38. WTFnews

forza 5 looks good, but i wont buy a Xbox one anyway haha, more exited for GT6 too so suck it forza :P

  39. Lambofanghini

Maybe it’s from overexposure, or that we just had to back away and ponder what we’ve just seen, but I will go ahead and comment first. All I can say is thanks Jordan and GTPlanet for all the information you guys have provided on GT6. I am very excited for for what lies ahead.
