GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: The End of the Line

11568608225_b4190a439c_z

This is it ladies and gentlemen, the final Weekly Rewind of 2013! Where has the time gone, it seems like just last week I was telling you all about how much evolution the Rewind would undergo during the 52 weeks that comprise 2013, and now here we are the final Rewind of the year. Time flies when you’re having fun is what they say.

I think I’ve held up my end of the bargain but of course there’s still more to be done, the Rewind will never stop evolving, It’s just the nature of the beast. The more GTPlanet grows, the more the Rewind grows. The more Gran Turismo grows, the more the Rewind grows. It’s a never-ending cycle of highlighting the one aspect of GTPlanet that makes it so, and that’s the community.

This has probably been the most action-packed closing weeks to the year that I can recall; there was the launch of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and soon afterwards there was Gran Turismo 6. A game which I have no doubt many of you found under the tree this past Wednesday, assuming you were able to maintain yourself from breaking that coveted Christmas seal before then.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

11556368545_a7c880ecf0_o

This week’s featured vehicle is seen as revolutionizing the automotive world’s view of Japan and demonstrated that, if need be, Japan could produce a sports car that could rival those made in Europe. This week’s vehicle is none other than the Toyota 2000GT.

First shown to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1965, the 2000GT was built under contract by Yamaha between 1967 and 1970. Powered by a 2.0L Straight-6 based on that found in the top offering Crown sedan, the engine was modified by Yamaha to produce 150 horsepower. Of the 351 produced, only 60 or so made it to America where they were priced higher than contemporary Jaguars and Porsches.

Today, the 2000GT is seen as the first serious collectible and the first “Japanese supercar”. Well-kept examples have gone for as much as 1.2 million dollars at auctions.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

11519370106_c3621c8aea_z

This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by tuning aficionado danbojte and courtesy XDesperado67 of Clueless, over The Hill Outlaws (a merging of Clueless Tunes, Outlaw Motorsports and The Hill) features the 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and comes in two flavors: Soft and Hard Core set at 500 and 600PP, respectively.

With his recent bout of Disco Fever still echoing through his mind the choice of cars was simple. Now the Trans Am was seen by many as the last gasp of the soon to be extinct Muscle Cars. With outrageous amounts of power strait from the factory having been sacrificed on the twin alters of the insurance companies and anti-polution laws the auto makers had fallen back on over the top styling to attract the young buyers.

The Firebird Trans Am was perhaps the most flamboyant example of flashy looks replacing true performance. Its prominant role in many movies and TV shows had it featuring prominently in many of the young Wallbanger’s teen fantasies. Never mind that in reality it was slow, heavy and handled like a cow in quicksand, it looked COOL!

Well now Ol’Harvey finally gets his chance to live out some of those fantasies, add to the already outrageous looks and along the way give that screaming chicken some performance to match its looks. So get out those leasure suits, slip on your gold chains and aviators and indulge in a little “Carnography”.

Ol’Harvey promises it won’t give you hairy palms!

Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after and you want to do so channeling what can only be described as “Bandit Fever”, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself.

Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

pmcheader_003

We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.

In Week 3 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 003, Standard: Power to the People – “I think i’d like to see a contest with people doing creative things including the drivers or the viewers. That should get interesting results! The drivers can be in their cars or out, and the pedestrians can be photographed in any way. The photo just needs to have one of the two involved in the photo as a main factor.”

Week 003, Advanced 2.0: Automotive Architecture – “We have been given some wonderful new places and spaces to explore: new Phototravel locations, new tracks and some refreshed tracks. So take your favourite ride and pose it in front of some intriguing architecture – or take your favourite architecture and photograph it next to/behind an intriguing piece of automotive architecture. Just one thing – no moon!”

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

Closing Thoughts

It has been a little quiet the past two weeks but that was to be expected as everyone is winding down while at the same time preparing for the new year. The Rewind is a little light on content for much of the same reason as you will probably have noticed by now that there’s no new Member of the Week and that’s due to the usual reasoning: this past week was hectic and I couldn’t find enough time to ponder or dig through the previous suggestions. I do apologize for that but it’ll be back first thing in 2014!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and ate lots of delicious foods and played in the snow; the one thing I can’t do at the moment as New York is entirely snow-free. At least it is in the city. If there’s snow elsewhere in the state then consider me envious.

That’s about all for this week, and I cannot wait to see what 2014 has in store. So until next week, keep racing!
