A year is a long time on the internet. In the 12 months since our last GTPlanet Awards, we’ve seen dozens of game titles announced and released, the motor industry has moved on apace (but we still don’t have a new Toyota Supra), and GTPlanet has seen hundreds of thousands of forum posts fly by.
January 3 is the day that Michael Schumacher turns 50. To mark the record-holding Ferrari world champion driver’s birthday, Ferrari has opened a new special exhibition dedicated to his life and achievements with the brand.
Bruce McLaren took his maiden win for his own team in June 1968. Driving an M7A, McLaren became only the third ever driver to win an F1 race in their own car. That race, at Spa-Francorchamps, was the first step for a team that would go on to win 20 F1 driver and constructor titles to date.
GTPlanet’s editorial team recently spent a week in Monaco and, although most of our time was taken up by the FIA-Certified GT Sport World Finals, there was a little downtime too. After all, who wants to work on a Sunday morning, with all that Mediterranean sunshine beaming down?
GT Sport is one of the most visually detailed racing games in history. Polyphony Digital goes to great lengths to ensure that each and every car is representative of the real thing, whether it constructs the model in-house or outsources to other modelling teams.
When GT Sport launched in October 2017, one major criticism was the relative lack of content. Just 168 cars and 39 tracks (at 17 locations) made the game the least content-rich since Gran Turismo 3.
If you’re as bad at planning gifts as us, you’ll face the same story every year. Even if you’ve picked up the presents you wanted, you won’t have wrapped them by the time NORAD says Santa’s at your chimney — and then you can’t find anything to wrap them with anyway.
If there’s a better way to get into the festive spirit than to attach a Christmas tree to a $140,000 sports car and take it drifting, we don’t know what it is. Fortunately Lotus agrees, and threw in a whistle-stop tour of its headquarters near Norwich too.
If you’re active on social media, you might have seen a new project from Sony doing the rounds. “My PS4 Life” is a community feature that shows off individual players’ gaming skills in the PS4’s five years on sale.
It’s been looking bad for the Bloodhound team recently. A project to send a car to 1,000mph was never going to be easy, but with some big-name sponsors on board, all the pieces were nearly in place. After a decade of work, the track was ready, the car had performed well in its shakedown and Bloodhound had marked its calendar.
You might recall a little while back that we covered a survey on the greatest movie cars ever. The cars on the list were… unusual to say the least, and GTPlanet’s forum members were quick with alternative suggestions.
