Being an Assetto Corsa player on Xbox One can sometimes be a trial of patience. Watching from afar as the original PC platform began receiving Porsche packs, it may have smarted when the first Volume arrived on PS4, only for the Xbox One version to be delayed an additional week.

Amidst the leaks that have outed all sorts of interesting cars, Forza Horizon 3 has gained another free, new-to-franchise car. The latest barn find was tucked away in the title update that came alongside the Rockstar Car Pack, and reports quickly announced the new car as none other than the 1972 Volvo 1800E.

Earlier this week, we named Project CARS 2 as one of the things set to make 2017 a great year for sim racing. While news remains sparse on the title — unless you’re one of the backers of the project — it sounds like the silence will be broken soon, according to Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell.

Oh dear. After Turn 10 accidentally unloaded a developer version of FH3 on PC players yesterday, the community has been diving deeper into the open-world racer. Yesterday, the first batch of leaks showed a handful of new cars, including some Porsches that have proven quite familiar on the XB1. Today’s discoveries, however, show something new.

Well now this is a surprise. The Rockstar Car Pack released earlier today for Forza Horizon 3, and at the usual 10AM PST time, the accompanying title update became available.

Now that we’re all suitably re-hydrated from New Years celebrations, it’s time to look forward: this year is going to be great. 2016 wasn’t bad by any means — you can read all about it in our Year In Review — but we truly believe 2017 will be looked at as a high-water mark for the sim racing genre.

Forza Horizon 3 is set to kick off the new year with its fourth monthly car pack tomorrow. The BMW i8 was already teased last month, confirming its place as the star of the pack, but a leak on the Windows Store has now outed the other six cars that will be arriving in 24 hours:

When we look back at 2015’s Year In Review, we can’t help but feel — with the required date changes — the opening paragraph is just as appropriate when wrapping up this year.

The end of the year is fast approaching, and that means a whole lot of best-of lists are about to hit. The Game Awards already got their presentation out of the way (awarding Forza Horizon 3 the best sports/racing title), and now Red Bull has announced the winner of its Readers’ Racing Game of the Year poll: Assetto Corsa.

It’s the weekend, which means another set of Forzathon challenges await players in Forza Horizon 3. Fresh of the release of Blizzard Mountain earlier this week, the challenges focus on off-roaders and rally legends:

More news from the Kunos Simulazioni camp. After yesterday’s surprise shake-up of the final Porsche pack, Executive Manager Marco Massarutto took to the official Assetto Corsa blog to detail the plans for the simulator leading into 2017 — specifically, the console versions.

It’s the end of an era. For almost as long as we’ve been a website, it’s been understood that Porsche, that most desirable of German marques, was the (more-or-less) exclusive domain of Electronic Arts. Sure, earlier Forza titles had them — and later ones did too, if you paid the extra asking price for DLC — but outside of that, you pretty much had to play a Need For Speed title to drive a car from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG (to give it its full name).
