Well no the wider point i was making is we all assume the AC player base is us lot, its not.
A tiny proportion will be going into data files or nicking nicked body shells or wheels or whatever.
The vast majority won't care about encryption but yet it comes up on a cycle every 20 pages or so on here.

It won't go away, it will stay, i wasted far too much energy ages ago saying about the hypocrisy of much of it and no one agreed with me and many turned on me in defence of Ilija at the time.....

Yet here we are.... no one agreeing with me again.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was just remaking the old point that with great encryption comes great responsibility.
To be honest, when modders lock bad mistakes (or even worse - half-assed carelessness) behind encryption, all they do is make themselves look pompous and incompetent while ensuring that the work they considered good enough to encrypt goes straight in the bin.

I have a problem with disappearing skidmarks at Bathurst (RT). So after the first lap worth of skidmarks have been laid down, the next time I come through that corner and lock up my tires (eg. at dipper) I can see the previous laps skidmarks on the road in front slowly erase.

• Probably more noticeable during a race with other cars (eg Caterham).
• erasing skidmarks does not happen at any other tracks so I don't believe it to be an AC/CSP setting.
• I have 16GB RAM / i7-6700.

Can someone please test for this at Bathurst to see if it is track related?

To anybody that uses the csp traffic mod, is there a way you can select which cars you can use. I wanna drive the Targa Florio but i wanna use like 60-70s cars.

Afraid not. Not easily, anyway. Firstly you need to create special lightweight versions of the cars (normally from lod_b or lod_c or somesuch), and then "register" them in a car-list that the mod uses. All a bit manual at the moment. Good news is that one of Abulzz colleagues is working on just such a set.

Well like everything it is 'bustable' from what I've seen on other forums.
Pretty sure some of EASY's recent reg or rex or whatever mods where encrypted but he has managed to 'fix' them and they aren't now encrypted.

This topic comes up A LOT.
It is what it is, option is there and some take it, nothing will change it.
Same as people that think private mods should never be shown in public, it makes no sense.
Modders can do what they like with their mods at the end of the day.
Vast majority of people playing AC are not fiddling behind the scenes like us lot, they are just getting cars and playing the game, they don't care that they can't get into the data files because i guess 80 percent of AC base don't even know how to access it, it isn't on their radar.
Do i care ever that Raceroom is encrypted when i play it?
Do i care that a tree is not green enough?
No because i can't do anything about it.

We here are in a bubble, nothing wrong with that, but i think its easy to assume this thread is some example of the AC player base and I'd guess its not.
Most want a filter they download one, download a car, download a track, download greener trees, download cameras.

They don't care about encryption or private mods.
Encryption was to stop the 20 percent or whatever who mod stuff.
Basically the same bubble we are all in.
Anyone outside of it won't give a damn and that is the ''market' for want of a better word.
Same as VR users, they think there are millions playing AC in VR because the ones who have it are so vocal about it, but barely anyone is using VR compared to screens, no one is going to cater just to VR unless a modder uses VR right.

ever since my mod has been ACTK'd, I've come to understand people's reasoning on encryption.

I wouldn't care much if not for the fact that he put it behind a sharemods link.

For me personally, bad encrypted mods are binned with more of a 'why did they even bother' shrug rather with a petulant flourish, but I take your point.
There are at least three different types under discussion here:
1. Those who have taken care and attention to provide original and unique high-quality mods, properly tested, with everything (and more) you could reasonably expect from a Kunos car, and who want to stop shysters from profiting from their work.
2. Those who slap any old crap together then freeze-dry it using encryption as a badge of honour.
3. Those who create (and then abandon) almost wonderful work but with one game-breaking fault that would normally be very easy to fix if it wasn't encrypted.

It's number three that's the frustrating one. Encryption doesn't matter with number one because the car is objectively perfect, and it doesn't matter with number two because it's so bad it'd get binned regardless of whether it was encrypted or not.

And objectively bad encrypted cars being 'free' isn't really a legitimate excuse for any apologists out there. The modder is wasting our time and our bandwidth by enticing us to try their crap that undoubtedly comes with some very bold claims and beguiling screenshots.
Anyway, its good that we can discuss this emotive and divisive topic in a level-headed way. I know it bores some people, but so do bad encrypted mods. Luckily, both are relatively easy to ignore.

Hi Paulo. What track are you talking about? Most of the time the reason for this problem is a bad fast-lane.ai. Display the line by activating the in-game app AI_line_helper. Then check the fast-lane which is the purple/violett line. This line should be continous without any zick-zack-pattern at start/finish. When the modder does not drive around the track more than once for recording, this strange problem can appear. If it is that problem the only solution is a new fast-lane.

In the drop-down next to the STANDARD showroom launch button, at the bottom of CM when you're viewing a car, there's an option to use CSP. I think all the ext_config and kn5 stuff shows up when using that. Downside is, screencap to make a shot for preview, and the range of showrooms available might not include/match the one you use in CM showroom.

Update. Yes, it does work. Soo...
Here, click options:

And in the next dialog, make sure "Use CSP Showroom" is checked, like this:

And voila! This car, with rim kn5 replaced by ext_config.ini, which shows up like this in CM showroom:

because the ext_config.ini is not evaluated there, as we know, but this is how it shows up in the CSP showroom:

with the wheels correctly replaced, and the fog lights, etc.

Yeah, this can be a big VR ball ache with encrypted cars as it seems that a LOT of modders only play in chase cam and don't give a rat's ass whether the driver is even facing the right way or not.
I just successfully swapped a steer.ksanim and rescaled/repositioned the driver on an encrypted car but it wasn't a pleasant experience, swimming in a sea of little blue triangles. But it is possible.
Encryption should be a statement that "this car is as perfect as it can be", not "aren't I a clever modder, I've encrypted my crap with a whole host of errors lol".

Can the steering wheel positions also be changed using this(or similar) method?

I have quite a few cars with steering wheels that are with too low(most common), too close etc, where it becomes a real problem in VR.

You forgot a fourth one : a quite rare car, nice, well made, visually exactly identical to the stock version except it's a "tuned" one, with too much bhp, but all you wanted was a stock version, and it's the only one you know... You could just go into the data, put the "right" numbers in the power.lut and engine.ini and that's it but nooo, encrypted... If that's not a frustrating one, I tell you

I can assure you that on flats (triples) I have the same problems. I disabled drivers hands, but always set the view that my real steering wheel covers the virtual one, so that I have the right cockpit view. But doing that, I can't even see the road in some cars.

I'd wager no one is encrypting because they think their mod is perfect.
They encrypt for various reasons but main one will be because they don't want other modders taking stuff off it or worst selling it on.

That does bring up the question of "well they took the model from Forza 5 but expect no one should take it off them".

It is fundamentally flawed and in context of this hobby, a pretty crappy thing to do.
Having said that, having now better insight to it all, if i see an encrypted mod i know i can go and get that model from somewhere and make my own one and have fun doing so.
So yes it bothers me less now.
That Bentley GT3 is a good example, i can find a model of that from at least 4 different games available online.
Encrypting it is bonkers I agree.
And at the end of the day he's made yet another sterile GT3 car, not his fault, GT3 is sterile with cars made for fat rich blokes to live out their fantasy of being a racing driver.

This goes right back to rfactor 1 and maybe further, I've come across encrypted rfactor mods.
I also know now how messy it all is, this crud about crediting people constantly for even daring to look at a mod for longer than 10 mins.
Many rfactor mods I've converted all have the whole or bits taken from other games.

The MG rally cross car i converted had come to rfactor via Dirt 3, i then converted it to AC.
I now know i should of just gone straight to gamemodels ru.

So encryption, its there to stop other modders. Its not there for the vast majority of player base.
So any amount of comments negatively about it won't change that.
We are, on this thread the very type of player base they are doing it for, rightly or wrongly.

Now anyone is obviously free to comment about it, but i doubt anyone will read this thread and have a rethink and not encrypt, in fact they will dig in more i'd guess.

In the past i updated ACTK stuff (tracks of course) and then i discovered that he later have sell them.

I also was accused to act like him (even on this forum) by stolen stuff, make money because i'm using sharemods and so on which is totally no true, but i don't care because a lot of people know who and what kind of person i am and this is the only thing that counts for me.

I simply stopped sharing my stuff and keep them for myself unless i work with trusted people (which know who really i am, and why i do my configs) in order to let them release something that looks even better than their original work (i'm not able to make 3D stuff, so i have to trust other person, and these person, like @racinjoe013 trust me about my configs and tv cameras, which are for sure NOT perfect, not the best thing thing in the world, but are enjoyed by hundreds of simracing fan).

I never ever feel the need of encrypting anything (my config template was and still used and "raped" by modders out there which also keep using my name on it even i don't even saw their track before just because my config can be grabbed and edited), but i don't care because who knows me and my work, knows where they can found me and my works.

People like ACTK and others steal works and put their hands on it? Who cares, people should trust the work of the original modder and avoid those raped content, if they don't, who cares, is not your problem. You can'tencrypt the world in order to avoid people to touch stuff. The best thing is to keep doing the best, share in the way you prefer and be trusted by who supports you. If anyone keep downloading raped stuff is not your problem, let them download crap and waste their time.

Who stole make money on your work? Who cares too. Unless you pay for licenses, or make 100% scratch models, you should not care about money, because is not a job but a passion and even if you have a patreon, who pays for your conversion/mods, should know that what you do is better than raped stuff which were ripped because not encrypted...

I hope my point of view is clear, but in any case this is my point of view, all the encrypted mods for me are destinated to fill the recycle bin.

Watching what another person makes is a quality or rather lack of quality usualy reserved for serpents.

To me money isnt a factor, outside of a select few modders there isnt much to be made.

The other reason modders encrypt is to hide stuff.
Just looked at the Bentley GT3 car and it has "copyright of untied racing design" in the tyres ini and i'd guess there is much more that is URD physics that the modder then encrypted.
To hide, rather than claim i'd guess.
90 percent of AC users won't go all detective like a modder can.
Same as when i went into Tommy 78's sierra RS500 mod recently to take some bits for my RS500 PCars conversion.....
Guess what...... Tommy's is PCars RS500.
OK so he did some stuff to it, but he claims scratch made I believe and charges money.

There is a lot of stuff that people like to hide, same way as there is a way around stopping CM analyse tool recognising you took kunos cars physics just by changing a few spellings in the data files.

Data file encryption is so dumb because you just open the data file, copy and paste to another data folder make a totally new car folder and data isn't now encrypted.

If i can be bothered i am going to do a Bentley GT3 car and use the same data as that encrypted one to prove a point.
Not sure i have the energy as its such a run of the mill sim car and i could use my time to do something interesting.

I'm not a fan of encryption too, but lots of scammers takes physics or assets from other guys which maybe have spent times and times on work, trying to make a car better than possible, and then it comes the other guy which it take the asset, put in his car, and sell it in his Patreon or whatever site you have in mind. I have some friends of mine which stopped making mods because of guys stealing cars assets, so now they are all private, and i can understand them.

You are free to do whatever you want, is free world.

Anyway i'm still on my point of view: if your politics is to keep using encrypt stuff, from me you will never ever gain a single cent because if i pay for something, and something is not done properly (like ie for onboards cameras), i want to be able and free to edit them if i'm able to do it and don't to be forced to ask you please do it.

I support modders who do 100% scratch stuff and don't uses encryption even they can, and i support modders which, once i notice a problem are open to improve things, but as happened a lot of times (and this is why i always released my standalone updates instead send them to the modders) i don't have time to wait for a reply or see my config cut or removed because they prefer their work even not complete.

They are free to do whatever they want of course, but if my config is more complete, you should at least improve yours with all the features that are available and not leave them uncomplete because you prefer move forward on another project in order to gain other money or supporter.

Anyway i'm not talkin about you, is a general consideration about all modders who are using patreon or similar stuff and act in this way.

perfect physics pasted on another car means crap results, so you should avoid in any case. Scammers should be avoided, so why wasting time? Just support scratch modders like RSS or VRC and support the modders who maybe copy but edit and try to improve stuff and leave in the bin the scammers... Is not that difficult.
