I can't wait to see what you can do with the 296 GT3

The 296 GT3 in GT7 is literally a dream come true for me, and is very pleasant early Xmas gift!!
Same, of all the cars from this update it's by far the one I'm looking forward to the most (besides the F1 car):

I likely won't have enough free time to create all the replica designs for the 296 I want but at the very least I'll be going for the AF Corse (both WEC and IMSA), Verstappen Racing and Risi Competizione cars.

Regarding the likely last two cars, I think the road-going 296 would be great! Indeed, I do consider it a relatively great design from the post-Pininfarina era. I'd also say that we could still see the 296 Speciale down the road, too, much like how we have both the F430 and 430 Scuderia. (I'd prefer seeing the 360 or the 599 first, but I digress.)

As for the Fiat Panda, I'm always down for more designs from icons like Giugiaro, even if they're not as flashy or sporty like the De Tomaso Mangusta, or the Maserati Merak. I bet that older Panda could be a great rival to another Giugiaro-designed hatchback - the first-generation Volkswagen Golf!

EDIT: Now, I bet we'll get some all-new events in the update, but I also wonder what sort of pre-existing events could get new rounds?

I think it's highly-implied that Yas Marina will host a new round of both the Ferrari Circuit Challenge and the WTC 800, to start. So I think that's where the 296 GT3 and road-going 296 will be featured.

I also imagine the Polestar 5 will be in a new round of the WTC 600, much like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N - though it could also be in a new round of the European Clubman Cup 600.

The Panda could definitely be in the European Sunday Cup 400, too.

As for the F3500-B and the Espace F1, I think they may be a bit too "unique" to fit into a pre-existing event, though I could see the former getting an event that also permits the F3500-A. (Indeed, I think they're meant to be raced against each other, much like the two SF23 models.)

Oh, and the Mine's Skyline? I think that could go many ways: there was the Nissan GT-R Cup, the WTC 600, and the Japanese 4WD Challenge 600.

Finally, the Mitsubishi FTO seems like an obvious fit for the Japanese FF Challenge 450.

Yes, pretty much all of them can become what could be termed "race cars", but there are some glaring anomalies that still mark them out as 'fake', most obviously the interiors stay the same, as do their fuel tanks.
That's broadly immaterial: every car in GT7 has a 100-litre tank. The difference is fuel consumption and that basically comes down to the engine, or rather whether it's a road engine not intended for constant high-rev duty or a race engine that is.

This is why those cars that have a race car engine swap available are better for high fuel multiplier events than those without, even at the same power/PP levels.

This is broadly correct, but it's a bit condescending to suggest people might not have realised they can build "race cars" from the road cars in the game.
Have you been reading this forum for the last few years? There are people who don't tune at all. They take what they are given and that's it.
Yes, pretty much all of them can become what could be termed "race cars", but there are some glaring anomalies that still mark them out as 'fake', most obviously the interiors stay the same, as do their fuel tanks. I'd personally add the nomenclature; if we were able to add a suffix (say 'RC Ver' or suchlike) to the name we see in the garage, it'd be a step in the right direction. And then there's the hunt for liveries, or the hassle of designing one yourself.
Yes, there's no official designation. That only matters for Sport Mode, and that's fine. There's nothing stopping leagues and such from designating which specific cars can compete. In fact, that's a necessity for a balanced event. Not to mention the custom single player stuff.

As for the "hassle" it's actually elemental gameplay. Ubisoft has an instruction program to teach game design, and one of the elements of game play is "puzzle". Puzzle game play is the "you need to figure it out" part of a game. Tuning, tweaking, etc, is all game play. Sure, it's not for everyone and that's ok.
For these reasons I consider road cars with modded engines/aero and race parts fully fitted exactly that; they are road cars with modded engines/aero and race parts fully fitted. Not race cars, not in my opinion even "race cars". But each to his own. Just saying, we pretty much all know we could 'copy' those real race cars if we wanted, but they'd be fakes.
You quite literally described a race car.

Take the 911 RS CS. Add the widebody and all the racing parts and you get the 911 RSR. The car in the photo below exists in the GT7, but you have to go make it.
1200x630.webp

And the BMW 3.0 CSL? The widebody version was never a road car. We have Miatas and Skylines that are designated as "different" because of a change in year and some other minor details, but the 2 versions of the CSL is only 1 car??

maxresdefault.jpg

Then of course, the F40/F40LM that I mentioned. The XJ220/XJ220LM that I mentioned. They are street version/race versions and two different vehicles IF one cares to go make them.

It's more than a little ridiculous that changing the designation in a UI from "road car" to "race car" is all it takes to make these cars legit race cars for so many. Which brings me back to my original point, that people don't know or, like you, simply don't accept them.

And THAT is why the addition of a "Racing Mod" is a possibility. It's possible, because it's already there. All PD have to do is create a one step shortcut.

So it's Panda.
As typical of early 80s and love for Panda in Japan, i drove one in real life and it was like driving shoebox. tight, thin and you can hear tires bumping over ants. 30 or something carburated horsepower were not something to write home about too.It is classic llok shared by several cars and it is innovative design for a time. Totally true and unlike modern 500 it actually bigger inside than it looks outside. . Not sure what event can be done with it. 4X4 could be one of the aero kits least in looks.
Not sure which events it can participate in. To make it fun it should be something limited and hopefully twisty/low speed.

Agree, but comparatively few do have race engine swaps available, so most can't really compete on fair terms against 'real' racecars in longer races, or even semi-long ones like the LM 30mins. Point taken though; it's the engine (and presumably its fuel management system), not the tank (size).

I play only in cockpit view. You've posted pics of XJ220 and CSL racecars and say they 'exist' in GT7, so show me their racecar interiors, as they exist in the game.

To be fair, if PD's own 'fake' Gr3/4 cars didn't exist, I'd agree we should all build our own 'race cars' using engine and aero upgrades etc, but I cannot currently build a car that replicates PD's own 'fake' Gr3 or Gr4 NSXs, for example, mine will never look like even these fakes from the driver's seat, so it's all just too messy and muddled. Especially because the Gr4 700pp limit overlaps with some road car categories anyway (Am 700 Clubman, Fer Challenge, Schwarzwald).

Four cars have confirmed prices from the LA build:
  • The 296 GT3 is 1.2 million
  • The Mine's is 3 million
  • The Polestar is 120k
  • The F3500-B is 1 million
For the other four, the Panda and FTO will both be cheap (sub-70k) UCD cars. The road 296 will likely be about 600-700k, based on previous modern road Ferrari pricing.

The Espace is the most volatile, but I personally don't expect it to be more than 2 million or so. Generally legend car offerings from more mundane brands get priced pretty reasonably in this game, it's the premium manufacturers where the numbers get silly.
Panda might be no more than $35,000
FTO is no more than $75,000
But I would say less than $50,000

Road 296 is $350,000

Espace is $20,000,000, I would even wager $40,000,000 ;)
I don't want it to be that high for my own sake, but the Espace is not only legendary, but truly mythical.
Only 2 have been created, one tested and show cased, but put away forever

The Escudo was raced, so that why it has that price.
The Espace never raced and was just a rolling concept

It's not something that should be just so easily acquired...
My gut feeling.

35K for a Panda?
Man!

As much as I love the Espace I can't see it being that much. If it is I guess I won't get it for a long time. I understand it is a special car but that's a bit rich for it.
I am thinking anywhere between 1 -3 million credits. Of course I can be wrong. We'll see on Thursday

So you negate the entirety of the car because it has a carpet?

Sorry, I'm not going to be swayed by the carpeting when arguing that these are not the same car.

Not to mention, when you build it, it's one of the best 700pp RACE CARS in the game. (It's important to point out because some don't play Sport Mode, GR3 with BoP on gives you cars around 700pp (RH tires))
To be fair, if PD's own 'fake' Gr3/4 cars didn't exist, I'd agree we should all build our own 'race cars' using engine and aero upgrades etc, but I cannot currently build a car that replicates PD's own 'fake' Gr3 or Gr4 NSXs, for example, mine will never look like even these fakes from the driver's seat
Why would PD give the street NSX the modifications to make it the GR4 or GR 3 cars, given those cars are already in the game? This is such a short sighted argument.

Imagine if PD added the BMW CSL to GR3 for Sport Mode. The uproar would be DEAFENING! So, they stick it in the street cars, where those who care to use the features (like me) can use them. Same goes for the 911 RS CS/911 RSR, F40LM, etc, etc.
, so it's all just too messy and muddled. Especially because the Gr4 700pp limit overlaps with some road car categories anyway (Am 700 Clubman, Fer Challenge, Schwarzwald).
It's not "messy and muddled". It's emergent gameplay for those who car to partake. For those who want to jump into a car with no effort, they give you that. For those that want to go deeper, they give you that to.

They throw the carpeting in for free.

That would be a good, reasonable assumption. Since so many of the cars can be built into full on race cars already, it wouldn't take all that much to have the game automatically do it for you.

Ya, exactly. The cover cars definitely have new items, so they are either new cars (which is not part of the announcement) or there is a new aspect to GT Auto with a few cars getting extra goodie to highlight it. As you rightly point out, the higher collector level must do SOMETHING.

We can built the F40LM, The Porsches, that Supra at the top of the image (although I use the JGTC version), the Corvettes, and we can build the XJ220...given the comments about "race cars" I wonder how many people still don't know that all these cars exist in the game? They only know of the stock version, since the RM is not listed as a separate car.

View attachment 1495440

What the game NEEDS, and what I hope they add, is race car levels of downforce so that the cars are equal to the GR3/GR4 cars once converted. At the moment, the downforce is all over the map, making balance a pain.
I think exactly like you, it would be wonderful to be able to change or modify the interiors, such as the steering wheel or part of the cockpit.

Carpets? Is that really the level of your argument on this? The car in your top photo does not exist in game. The car at bottom does, it's just an imitation of the other. A modded road car with a pretty nice homemade livery.
Carpets? Show me its steering wheel, its seats.

Do you think I haven't built, raced as many of these cars as you? Difference is likely ou keep yours; I've sold almost all mine after deciding they can't maintain the illusion with roadcar interiors (yeah, ncluding carpets) and non-racing engine fuel economy (and yes, I'm guessing your lower pick car might have the XJR swap, but most of your 'racing cars' won't have race engine swaps, and even if the do most will be wrong (70s CSLs didn't have engines from 2010s Z4 GT3s, but I'm sure you know that, you might be happy pretending it's the real thing however, I wouldn't be.)

Let's agree to disagree. But the XJ220LM doesn't 'exist' in the game as you claimed; your version of it might, but ultimately it's just a roadcar-based replica. Sorry.

Why would PD give the street NSX the modifications to make it the GR4 or GR 3 cars, given those cars are already in the game?

Answer your own question, if you dare. By your logic a roadcar NSX modified with racing parts and with a pretty replica livery applied is as much a valid racecar as PDs own versions, right? How do their interiors compare? Their carpets? (Seats, dash, steering wheels?) And how do they compare on fuel economy in races?
(And remember, I don't even think those fake PD Gr cars should be in the game, or at least i don't think they're necessary for the game; they don't exist in real life after all.)

It's an "imitation"? ...it's a video game. These are digital files. They're all imitations.

You are quite literally ignoring 99.9% of the car because you don't like the steering wheel. Would it be a nice detail for them to update the interior graphics as well? Sure. Does it change the fact that the car is indeed modelled after the JX220C? No.
Do you think I haven't built, raced as many of these cars as you?
Yes that's exactly what I think
Difference is likely ou keep yours; I've sold almost all mine after deciding they can't maintain the illusion with roadcar interiors (yeah, ncluding carpets)
Again, you are admitting that the issue is you. If they changed the interior, you'd be fine with it.

It's pedantic. You sweat over which steering wheel it has?
and non-racing engine fuel economy (and yes, I'm guessing your lower pick car might have the XJR swap
You'd be wrong, because the swap gives it excessive fuel range. The GR3 car in my races (The F1 GTR, Supra, NSX, and NISMO) require a 10pp boost to keep up and their extra mileage is only an advantage if I create a race in such a way that it becomes an advantage. You'd know that if you used the cars, which reinforces my point from a few lines up.
but most of your 'racing cars' won't have race engine swaps, and even if the do most will be wrong (70s CSLs didn't have engines from 2010s Z4 GT3s, but I'm sure you know that, you might be happy pretending it's the real thing however, I wouldn't be.)
Yep, I'm super happy with those swaps.

See, I realize that it's a game, and it's not really an engine. It's a file. I swapped the original file, for the file from a different car, and now the file called "BMW 3.0 CSL" works so much better. As a bonus, it races well.

There's a secret that I think you should know. People swap engines in real life too, especially for classic racing where the parts for the original engine are too hard to find.
Let's agree to disagree. But the XJ220LM doesn't 'exist' in the game as you claimed; your version of it might, but ultimately it's just a roadcar-based replica. Sorry.
Well, I posted a photo of this non-existent car and compared it to it's real life counter part, which I assume is also non-existent since it was also a stripped down street car.

Oh, wait, yes, they did change the steering wheel

Answer your own question, if you dare.
The GR3 and GR4 NSX were made for GT Sport and existed before the widebody feature existed. Also, there's two, so if you changed the NSX into a widebody, which of those two cars should it become?

Or, hey, let's not mess with the system and give the NSX a different kit...Look at me daring :p
By your logic a roadcar NSX modified with racing parts and with a pretty replica livery applied is as much a valid racecar as PDs own versions, right?
Yes - next question.
How do their interiors compare? Their carpets? (Seats, dash, steering wheels?)
Again with the steering wheel. You got a real hang up on steering wheels.
And how do they compare on fuel economy in races?
Fine? Not sure what you're trying to say here. I put it into races with cars that pair well with it.
(And remember, I don't even think those fake PD Gr cars should be in the game, or at least i don't think they're necessary for the game; they don't exist in real life after all.)
Rotiform built the GR3 Beetle - So is that ok for you now? Now that it exists in real life and all.

2,000,000 back the was before most people even know what it is and could be... Now it's even more crazy...

But if Hagerty were to appraise it for auction, and with potential buyers, it's value would be super hi, higher than the Escudo or the Mazda RX500

I wouldn't be surprised if it is at least $15*000,000

Hope we also get Christmas music on Thursday.

I’ve taken the day off - can’t wait for all of this.

First thing I’ll do is take the new GT3 around Gilles Villeneuve.

🤣 You're getting insulting now. If that's the best you've got I'll leave you to it. But the XJ220LM and all those others you've mentioned do not 'exist' in GT7. Just so you know. They're (v nice) replicas based on roadcars. Glad you can keep the illusion.

You're assuming the 2m Cr price from GT2 had any bearing on reality and makes for a good starting reference, as well as ignoring that cars of this nature don't necessarily inflate as much as other cars might. It being rare also doesn't by itself mean anything. I'd be shocked if it were more than 5m Cr, and I expect it will be less than 4m Cr.

Ok, what's the first car and first track to drive it on?
This is a great question I hoped nobody would ask, because I'm really torn about it.
I would usually take my beloved Carrera GT or 'party spec' 959 around a new track first. But the GV Montreux race track is SO AWESOME I really don't know how to Christen it! 🤯

One more week, the only thing I am more excited about regarding GT7 is the official trailer and reveal .. anytime now
Yes, I'm sure PD will put all the content inside the Youtube video up by the latest Tuesday or Wednesday. However it will spoil the reveal for those that want it to be a surprise.

If SOPHY can perform at CGV, I’ll do a Gr.4 Custom Race in the Gr.4 Mustang. If no SOPHY I’ll run my Trans-Am spec Boss 429 around a few times and afterwards, listen to that V8 in the replay.

One thing I don't think is taken into account from the "built road cars" argument going on is this.

Yes you can build many race cars, but you can not use them in sport mode as the game doesn't class them as "race cars" among the existing, VERY restrictive classification system.

For most people who only play single player, especially with custom races, this is a non-issue. BUT if you are a diehard sport mode guy, the fact that you can build a custom Nissan Z GT4 is completely irrelevant to they way they play the game.

Of course, this is an issue where both sides are right, from a certain point of view, and depending on how a player intersects with the game. It's unfortunately a natural clash that inevitably happens when a game tries to be everything for everyone: inevitably somebody's gonna be left upset.

I personally don't care for online play myself, BUT I can see why the people who want proper race cars are so vocal, as 90% of sport mode races are GR.3 or GR.4 events outside of the one-make Race A, and it's rare that the games current competitive online structure actually allows for use of tuned road cars.
