Can confirm. An AI opponent using a Nissan Z modified to GT4 specs in a field full of Gr.4 class cars will get left in the dust, even when I start it at the front of the field. If I am personally driving the car, the racing is good. But only because the Z being a 'road car' puts it at enough of a disadvantage that I don't need to nerf it to make the racing close.
Depends on the car and depends on the tune. I haven't tried the Z vs the GR4 cars, so I can't speak to that specific case. But I just had a good time matching the two RSR's in the game ;)

One is the Porsche RSR GR3, the other is the 911 RSCS (which, when modded, becomes the 911 RSR). Both tuned to 700pp and to be as equal as possible on downforce (which means minimum on the RSR and maximum on the RS CS). In this case, the RSR has more power and the RSCS has less weight. The track is Dragon Tail.

Like I said, it is a game within the game. It's a game to sort out what works and what doesn't. Personally, I think the GR4 cars are built for Sport Mode and don't blend well with the other cars, not in the way the GR3 cars do. I know you were referring to AI, and I am referring to myself, but I can assure you that if you tune a car to it's potential, the AI will exploit that.

That said, if this speculation of an RM mod comes good, increasing the Downforce/Grip of the cars, then it's a different story.

Here’s one. How many will complain they wish the Espace had a race car interior?
Or that the Kangoo's interior is gutted if you remove all the weight. RACE CAR 🤣

Yeeeeeeessss! I forgot… The HiAce!

Matching in a time trial is one thing, putting the road car in a field of racecars will show you what I was talking about. Put the 993 at the head of the field and make the rest of the field the 991. The 993 will go backwards, quickly.

@SpacedInvader @Voodoovaj

You guys should just test this! Take a car that's in game as road- & race-version, tune the road version as far as possible to the same hp/tourque/weight (you could maybe also use PP, but only if there's no engine swap involved) and see which version is quicker on the track.
Then we know, if road cars tuned to track specs are as good as the racing cars in the game. I doubt it tbh but I may be wrong.
I'd say the major problem with that are the wheel&tyre(some road cars can't fit 18" wheels&tyres like the race car) and suspension physics and the downforce.
I've done it, geez a long time ago, with the Mustang GT350/Gr.4, Aston Martin Vantage/GR.4, 650S/GR.4, Cayman/GR.4. Haven't done it with the SLS/GR.4.

The road cars have more torque, but the downforce and like I mention, the suspension physics place the race car as the better performer. Fuel economy is the killer for endurance(including wear multipliers).

It may be nothing, but i remember in an old Online Time Trial we used a Nissan Z and i wasn't able to get anywhere near gold because of the unusual technique needed to extract the most speed from it.. maybe a niche case where the AI just can't get to grips with it.

Ya, it doesn't. In a full field, I have to boost the GR3 cars and the 911 RSCS an extra 10pp to keep pace with the F40 and Jag. Set up is a SIGNIFICANT factor when racing Sophy. If the 911 is set up terrible, it will go backwards, just like any poor set up.

FYI, I tested the Nissan you were referring to. You have to be careful because many cars have stats that mess up the PP calculations. Sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. That Nissan is messed up by a lot. I gave it an extra 10pp, and it should probably get an extra 15pp.

I ran the GR4 Huracan vs. Street Huracan vs. The Nissan Z Performance. (with all the race bits on everything).

The street cars are on par with the GR4 cars IF you set them up to be equal (generally speaking)

My Sophy races are on par with Sport Mode races, and I'm DR A+. Sophy is no slouch, but the cars can be awful, so it takes work. I get it, the work is not for everyone, which is why I hope a future update brings the sharing of custom race files with their setups and liveries, just like the pre-made single player races.

Oh I'm no slouch. Wasn't a GT Academy finalist for nothing. 😄 My races have been good too, but if I use a Gr.4 car against the AI Gr.4 cars, I have to detune my car to make it a fair race. The Z being a road car I don't have to do that.

I get your points here, but tbh my argument was less about performance, more about aesthetics and authenticity.
Well, ok, but then there's indeed nothing to discuss here. It's like you say. Those cars can look more or less the same outside, but never inside. And sound is also different. So the "authenticity" is rather low. But if someone plays in any other view than cockpit and watches regular replays (without cockpit view), it's ok I guess. Some ppl care more about things like this, others less.

Alright, I did the irresponsible thing and caved:

I’ll be hopping back in for the first time since August 2022. Not sure exactly when it’ll be on my doorstep, but it sounds like I’ll have a LOOOOOOOT of stuff to catch up on. Last time I was playing I was sharing my preordered copy with several housemates on one of their PS5s, and after we all went our separate ways getting one of my own to keep playing was a very low priority.

I’ve been playing some GT Sport custom races here and there, and man I’ve missed the customization. But beyond that I’m also excited to try and tune all the new econoboxes in my 3 year absence, Sophy, new missions, and the few decent event cards amongst the event slop they’ve rolled out. I can’t remember what collector level I left off with, but with the bonus books that have come in the meantime I should have a fair amount of free engines to pick up and try while I grind out level 50+.

Funnily enough after attending the LA event I picked up a used copy on my drive back to Seattle and halfway through dropped it by the friend that shared the console as an early Christmas gift, so we’ll be able to play together again. Split screen wasn’t working while we lived together so it’ll actually be the first time we do that.

Maybe the wrong place to ask this - but as far as profile goes, I should retain just about everything I had once I connect and setup my PSN to the new system? Even liveries? Or do those get lost in transfer like photos/replays?

You should be able to pick up where you left off.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it @Quakebass? Haven't had to chance to look at the Black Friday deals with how busy I have been and a friend of mine is interested in upgrading to PS5.

Would you mind sharing your JGTC tuned? Do you apply most racing parts to each car?

You're a bit mistaken. In real life, I own a 45 HP 1.0 Fire Fiat Uno 45S
and I enjoy driving it, despite the fuel consumption.
I don't think it's that boring when you feel the carburetor starting to choke when you're revving.
It's 45 HP, but the Fire requires you to keep the engine torque up. It's a matter of driving style, which only classic car enthusiasts can understand 😉👊
Depends on what you had. on 1l 45 HP-ish it probably very different. It literally 30% over what 830CC had.
Newer 50 HP fuel injected models or Spanish 60hp Panda Twin with Abarth package probably were not that bad. With small and light cars with low HP it behave very different depending on what grade engine you have and extra 10 HP can be quite a differntiator. Having 4 grown man in the car while going serpentine uphill will be for sure different compared to when you drive alone on relatively flat. I drove 1.1 205 vs 1.4 205 (Peugeot) and 1.35 Hyundai Getz vs 1.6. It does makes difference. In Canadian realities it will be probably 4 cylinder Accord 1.5 vs 2l turbo as now or 2.4 vs 3.5 V6. It does feel different. Extra 30-40% in horses and very hefty extra in torque is key to totally different driving experience.

Does the 652cc version qualify as a kei car?

I'm guessing probably not, but I'm automatically suspicious of anything where it has an engine just under 660cc where kei regs could be PD's reasoning for choosing that car.
It looks like we getting 1l fire model from late 80s or early 90s. Grille on the model looks symmetric thus i doubt it first iterations. I can pull GT6 and look what was there. given my PS3 still works....

edit it was Fiat Panda Super ie '90

I think also that what was sold in Japan. they used to have very draconian limitations on Fiats so there will be no competition. Not sure when it was lifted. These i saw on sale are 90s and normal or 4X4 with 1 and 1.1 engines respectively.
2Cyl 652 should qualify as key car but it would be as slow as it can get with less than half HP and key events are usually limited to Japanese cars.

Panda in Nurbrurgring Turisfahren with slow cars galore!!!!
Let's brake 22 minutes lap record!!!!!
I did old 500 on the Nurb.... one time was enough. Could be fun as online event. With live chat, cheering, comments and that thrill of having final stretch last more than it takes for Gr1 to do full lap.
Don't remember how long it was... may be 19 min

I'd imagine it's the 1.0 I.e from previous games so 45bhp.

I remember it being surprisingly capable in gt6, I'm pretty sure it could dip under 8 minutes on the nurburgring with the little 1.0 maxed out and was dominant in its pp class.
1.0 is also seem more probable. I am sure it will not do 8 min. It too slow and despite light weight looses too much. And if they get physics correct there is no way to corner in it at decent speeds. I do rock 380pp and such vintage races on very mildly modified Autobianci. It is fun to drive. Especially when you go better then GTI, Alfa or Citroen DS.

GT6 had some quirky upgrades which were killed in GT sport and GT7.

I had Honda City Turbo II '83 maxed in GT6 and it was also very capable.

If Panda gets nice engine swap and decent stability with it.... we may get full throttle fun!

I don't think you'll be able to access your liveries, but I'm not sure

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for it @Quakebass? Haven't had to chance to look at the Black Friday deals with how busy I have been and a friend of mine is interested in upgrading to PS5.
I used PlayStation direct and went with the Slim+Disk Drive model. Black Friday had a $100 off deal, so it was (USD) $450+10.5% local sales tax.

My other options were scouring Craigslist, where I could find some for $300 in unknown condition, or PlayStation refurbished “fat” model for $400. I’ve seen and heard that old models have occasionally had various Bluetooth chip sync/controller connection issues develop, so $50 extra for assurance it’d work correctly long term seemed like the smarter move.

I think I’ve seen disk models with sales putting it at 400 or less on some other retailers? But most included a shipping fee, whereas PlayStation offered free shipping, and a 2 month zero interest Klarna plan. (that last bit made me feel comfortable pulling the trigger and not putting any risk with my booking travel and lodging for a shoot I’m doing at Daytona in January).

EDIT

UPDATE!!! I swear the base shipping said 4-5 business days, I pulled the trigger this morning and somehow It’ll land at my door in under 48 hours, not just in time for the update, but even gives me time to install updates before Spec III launches!!! WOOOO!!!!!

Nice one! I too caved in and ordered a PS5. It's time to grow a little and check out Sophy.
Looking forward to more Quakebass presence 😎

So what are the known things so far:
Spec III arriving Thu is a given, but what about the DLC date and cost? Looks kind of weird that (if it is) 2 day to go we don't know these details yet

It’s also coming on Thursday. We don’t know the price yet.
We will find out on Thursday most likely.

It’s also not that weird. As long as we know the price when we’re actually able to buy it we’re golden.

I am very happy to share various aspects of classic cars, as well as enthusiasts like you, I can only blame him. In fact, the 650cc Fiat Panda model is derived from the same type of twin-cylinder engine mounted on the Fiat 500 and 126. The Toyota 800 Sport is a valid and striking example.
Carestia is absolutely right about this statement.
If it were a model from 1980-85, we're talking about the 33 HP.

Learned something today. I always thought the Panda is just an Uno with AWD. It's even more compact and 4&4 is just one niche variant of it.

My parents had a Fiat Uno in the early nineties. I only saw Pandas (4by4) from winegrowers in the region.

Still great to have such a thing in the game.

Edit:
Off topic, but: Spot the outlier in my parent's car history (as far as i remember everything):
Renault R5, Fiat Uno, Opel Corsa (first one), Jaguar XJ8, Skoda Felicia, Micra Mouse, Skoda Oktavia (first one).

Fiat Panda (the real one, not the one for posers we have today) is a tank, it doens't stay in the same sentence with Fiat Uno
