Nothing's impossible. With a five-place grid penalty, the best start Barrichello can get is sixth, which is where he ended up after the first corner insanity in Melbourne. True, Brawn haven't been as dominant in that second session as they were in Melbourne, but Grands Prix are not run over one lap. We'd still have to account for what compund tyres everyone was using, their fuel loads and whether there was rain on-track; some sections were reported as being wet about halfway through the sesion. Besides, I believe Brawn were more interested in gathering temperature data than topping practice times.

True but it was Rosberg who topped the times in all three practice sessions in Melbourne. Brawn were quick yes but they didn't show what they could do until Qualifying.

I think Ferrari are in real trouble despite finishing the second session 1-2. That screams morale booster to me. It's the sort of thing low to mid grid teams do.

I don't think most of the team practice a qualifying run until Practice three. Then we'll start to see who can do what.

Then the rain will came and mix it all up again.

I dunno, the top 15 were covered by less than a second. It’s not like Ferrari pulled some stupidly quick lap times just for the sake of it. Seems like an ordinary practice session to me.

Yeah, Ferrari were pretty consitent, with Raikkonen trading blows with Nakajima for fastest. The only significant time when they weren't at the very front was when the Brawns took over for a while in there.

i dont think thats the case heidfeld was out for a long stints if i remember correctly and his times just never seemed to fall so i think they might just be having trouble with the cars this weekend.

I think Hamilton has a serious problem. He's six seconds behind Bourdais; eight behind Jenson Button in first. The only reason he's ahead of Buemi and Kovalainen - who are currently on-track - is because they are yet to set a time.

Who the 🤬 is the muppet commentating on the BBC practice session that's just been discussing the gases that the tyres are filled with?

Talking about the fact that the tyres are air filled, and not filled with any "fancy" gases like nitrogen that has now been banned, they are now according to this moron filled with "good old oxygen"

Someone needs to take him to one side and explain that air is about 80% nitrogen, and an oxygen filled tyre at race temperature would be a serious explosion risk!

Quite agree, but an unusual mistake for Ferrari to make, he should be able to make it up on the day, but I would imagine that Massa is not best pleased (I know my daughter isn't - big Ferrari fan).

My guess is that they were probably trying to either save on tyres or keep the engine from getting stressed; possibly both. They just got a little complacent and weren't expecting a last-minute charge from everyone else.

They were trying to save soft tyres. I've noticed that the Ferrari's are only quick on the softer tyres. Expect them to be very slow on the hard tyres. The top teams, Brawn, Williams, Toyata and Red Bull can do quick times on both tyre types.

I think it actually sounds quite nice; I've never been as excited for a season as I have this one, simply because there are so many unknowns. I've been excited in the past, but never like this.
