Twin Ring Motegi to Appear in GT Academy 2012?

A very interesting new screenshot emerged today on German video game news site PlayFront, in an article they posted about GT Academy 2012. Included with a batch of various promotional images is one screenshot labeled “Round_8_Twin Ring Motegi East Short Course”, which you can see above.

GT Academy’s PR teams in North America and Europe have been steadily releasing screenshots on their respective Facebook pages of different tracks that will be featured in the 2012 mini-game’s time trials, but so far, they’ve only shown circuits from Gran Turismo 5. As you likely already know, no variation of the Twin Ring Motegi circuit been seen since Gran Turismo PSP, making this a potentially very exciting revelation.

First spotted and tipped to GTPlanet this morning by “hrusa2”, it is plausible PlayFront simply re-published a German press release’s material without realizing the significance of that particular image.

The screenshot appears to be unique when compared to other games, including previous Gran Turismo titles and iRacing, which recently added the circuit to their simulator. It is also worth noting that Twin Ring Motegi’s logo was one of over 25 new circuits discovered on Polyphony Digital’s GT5 website last year. Twin Ring Motegi is also home to the one-and-only Gran Turismo Café, a GT-themed restaurant which opened in 2009.

That said, as always when dealing with unofficial sources, this information has not been confirmed. Assuming the image’s title is correct, the track’s existence may not be verified until Round 8 of GT Academy 2012, which starts on June 19. Until then, stay tuned!

patience is a virtue…. just let’s what comes… I bought and paid for GT5 because of the content it had during release… evething else (especially fro free) is a nice.

A real big change will come with GT6 of course…

    so long…

  2. BkS

I can tell you right now, that is not a GT5 screenshot. That’s an iRacing screenshot.

There is no, “GT” billbord around, nor any other indication of the GT logo anywhere else on track like there usually is with most tracks.

I’m afraid I can’t see any new tracks until GT6.

  3. hobanator24

You know I haven’t played complex string in awhile. I hope this track makes a return

  4. SZRT Ice

Citta di Aria, kaido, touge, rally, drag, Gymkhana, and more epic surreal fantasy tracks with beautiful landscapes. More of this please. Yes, GT needs more “real life” circuits, but they take longer to scan, measure, and recreate. R/l tracks should be made as “base track models” that are updated regularly, as tracks change constantly. So as things change irl, update later, GT5 is there. However, in the meantime, some artificial tracks created from the PD mindset would hold many of the masses over greatly. I mean, something’s better than nothing. Especially in this case.

  5. Leo0308

Only yesterday i was thinking that was bound to be next DLC track, all 4 versions i hope.

    1. researchALLwars

Hockenheimring, Silverstone (all layouts), Sebring, Virginia International Raceway, Catalunya, Zandvoort, Sepang, Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta, Kyalami, Yas Marina, Interlagos, Shanghai Street Circuit….. what else?

    2. TomBrady

I don’t. There are just so many other tracks this sim needs. hockenheim is good but it’s very flat and there are a lot of tracks I’d rather have.

Macau, Bathurst, Zandvoort, VIR, Mid Ohio, Marina Bay, Road Atlanta, Road America, etc.

    1. DYLAN777-is-not

The main menu is not slow and is perfectly laid out. I miss the old layout from like gt2 but its billions better than say forza 4s menu.

  6. Youngun

Ok, Good. A new Track but wheres the one thats used in international events and GT Academy itself, Silverstone! Great track and great at night, as my track day tells me. Even donington park, Castle combe (good drift curcuit), Brands hatch (with rally cross sections!) would be well worth it

  7. hazellnut134

Kaz confirmed that the gt academy cars will be released after the 8 week event is over. Check it out on twitter.

  8. Hentis

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the track as a spec 3 download or as DLC released with the ,more of an incentive for people to download.

  9. Dionisiy

    Twitter Kazunori:
Good question! RT @jambogt: @Kaz_Yamauchi Hi Kaz :) so should we expect Motegi in GT5 after GT Academy ends? :)

    1. TokoTurismo

YES, YES and YES! :D I’ve seen that too. +1 to Kaz and +1 to you for letting us know that. :)

    2. omgitsbees

I don’t think he outright confirmed Motegi in GT5 there. He really didn’t answer the question, but if I had to guess, I would say he is probably open to the possibility if there is enough demand for it.

    3. SZRT Ice

This just hit me, I’m really starting to believe most of GT5’s desired DLC is being held off for GT6. Because they can’t give us EVERY new idea & feature in GT5, and have to have something worth wanting in GT6. I’m seriously starting to believe GT6 may arrive sooner then we realized. But then again this is all speculation, and there are still many reasons that make a long wait seem likely. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  10. hairystig

Hmmm interesting, this could be 4 new tracks the oval the main road course and I’m pretty sure there’s two short course versions too, that said its not a great track, very stop go stop go rather than nice and flowing……

    1. SZRT Ice

Makes it very competitive, as late braking, pace, and tire wear all have stronger bearing.

  11. kollosson

I agree, more tracks are what we need and classic tracks at that,i really miss some of the classics like Midfield, Apricot Hill, etc GT just is not the same without the classics, its like watching a movie with one of the characters missing, please Polyphony lets have some classics back.

  12. Tvensky

ahh, exiting news, Im always pleased when new tracks appear in GT5.. cant wait to know more about it, and then finally drive it!

    1. Raaj85

yeah it would be good to be able to play it and get the cars even if we cant qualify for the actually competition

    2. A_Higher_Place

I don’t understand that either, here in Canada we’re getting even though we can’t compete. I believe they just bum us along with our southern relatives though..

    3. Quakebass

That’s what’s confusing me – On the GT Academy Trophy Rankings page, it shows 59 different countries (New Zealand, Australia, and Canada are there), and they have plenty of gold medals coming in… Is it the fact that you guys can’t find it on PS Store, or you’ve downloaded it, and it won’t let you race?

    4. xx666Kris666xx

from memory it was released a bit after the rest for us (aus) last year?

and still not on Aus PSN store that I can see, I wonder how many US accounts are on rodeo dr, beverly hill’s …90210 lol

  13. Josh848evo

I love this track it’s a grate races track and if it’s coming for gt acadamy that’s even better.

  14. 20832

Can’t tell you guys, how much of a smile that would put on my face.
I miss the Twin Motegi Raceway so much in GT!

  15. omgitsbees

I really like this track in Forza 4, and it would be cool to see it return to the Gran Turismo series.

    1. omgitsbees

I’m also wondering how much stuff that appears in GT Academy 2012, is being used to test Gran Turismo 6. Anything new is unlikely to be GT5 DLC.

    2. Dmarc_Atl

Yea if this is legit They should release some races with. And some for spa and kart track.

    3. omgitsbees

Yeah, that’s kinda how i’ve been seeing it as well, just didn’t want to come right out and say it. This is actually a really great way to beta test future projects that PD is working on, in my opinion.

  16. ucwepn

No point having any more tracks without proper A and B spec events to play on them (not just seasonals), not everyone likes online racing either.

    1. TomBrady

lol there are proper a and b spec races. they’re under ” A Spec”, & “B Spec” LOLz facepalm

    2. omgitsbees

That’s not what he said at all. If we get new tracks, it would be nice if we got more single player content to go along with them. A-Spec mode off the game disc is really weak, and doesn’t even begin to cover the vast amount of cars, and possible racing combinations you could come up with. It was really disappointing, and that’s why the Online Events mode was added.

  17. montecarlo87

Should have been in GT5 anyway. After all the game is so bias towards Japanese stuff anyway. More seriously we should have many more real tracks in GT6 than made up tracks.

  18. CJSpencer77

Everyone keeps saying we need more cars but I hope we will get a “track pack” withmore than 1 track in it, obviously id like more cars, we all would but can you honestly say you have actually raced every single car in GT5 more than a cursory go?, i know i havent but i have raced all the tracks to death. Any non oval tarmac track will be good for me thx.

    1. HKS racer

      Couldn’t agree more

      TRACKS IS WHAT WE NEED

AND “SELECT YOUR OPPONENTS” IN ARCADE MODE

  19. Dekropttiv

I hope, if it ever comes out as DLC for GT5, that it has dynamic weather and/or day and night. Along with all the different layouts Motegi offers. Kept us waiting for so long, it better be good.

    1. lebes14

Yes Portland! <3 oregon. I would love to race in my home state, oregon's scenery would be amazing modeled by PD. also be cool to see barber motorplex

    2. Quakebass

^ I’d love having Seattle (even though it isn’t a real racing circuit), partly because of it being near where I live; the scenery is pretty accurate for the time; it’s changed since GT4.

    1. Jake

Would like to see the original GT4 circuits back. why make us wait for something we already had?

    2. another_jakhole

I “think” it takes work to port to or completely remake them for the PS3.

Not all previous GT tracks are SIMPLY going to be touched up, especially the world circuits.

    3. Dr.Frogg

Hey, unlike GT4 this would most likely have day/night transition and/or weather system transition like Route X and Spa.

    4. TomBrady

that brings up a point, I’m hoping Motegi won’t just be a “touched up” version of the GT4 motegi like deep forest, autumn ring, etc. The track portions look great but the trees look just horrible. They look bad even for GT5 (most tracks have some pretty poor 2D trees). Would it kill them to do a little more than putting wallpaper trees at the boundaries of the track like on deep forest? LOL IO’m not hating on em but I think they could’ve done a little more with the scenery on deep forest than what it is. I love that track anyways but still

  20. tpark103

This is bringing back memories of GT3 or GT4. I have to say I for one am beyond excited! New twists and turns and ways to bring out every single thing that each car has to offer. :D

    1. DA6righthand

This is just speculation. Don’t get your hopes up until there’s an official announcement!

    1. TomBrady

I kind of agree, but it will be good for racing. Lots of passing. Plus the oval is sorely needed for NASCAR.

  21. TomBrady

I hope Motegi has night transition or at least a nightime layout like in iracing. It’s funny, iracing just added it and now GT5 will add it a month later. That’s great for me since I beast both of these sims!!!

    1. another_jakhole

I’ll be a bit disappointed if it isn’t a track with Time Change. It’s more simple to do it for a track that’s as plain as this than it would be for a track like Rome that probably required the most work out of any other track. It took two years to replicate.

    2. TomBrady

What took 2 years to replicate? Rome?

I do get what you mean, the scenery in rome is more complex, but would it be a system issue? I don’t know how it works, but doesn’t the lighting in the game work like in real life, where the main light source cascades over the map, and every texture has it’s own reflective index? Or does it not work like that?

    3. another_jakhole

Not a system issue, but it’s difficult, because of the meticulous work involved and time issue. The shadows for anything have to be individually worked on in Time Change tracks.

      ALSO
The lighting is the reason for the jagged shadows. THAT could be or could not be an issue with the PS3. The way it was explained to me, it seems it’s not.

    4. TomBrady

Yea I can’t see how the jagged shadows could be a system issue either because look at GT5p. It has virtually the same graphics, except no jagged shadows. Sure they made some refinements to the interiors but otherwise the graphics are just about identical. GT5p doesn’t have jagged shadows. I could understand them using it as an excuse for the time change tracks but I don’t get it for the normal tracks.

I didn’t know they would have to work each object in the map to get the shadows right, I always kind of assumed there was a light source the just cascaded over everything and the objects would cause shadows behind them. Video game design is complicated

    5. Quakebass

If you have a decent computer, try downloading blender (it’s a free 3D art/animation program) – you get to work with lighting, and you’ll see what it takes to make day/night transitions on complex scenes or objects. It is a bit of work, but not TOO complex. There is a bit of testing involved, as another_jakhole said, you need to check every little object to make sure it doesn’t shadow oddly. I believe the jagged shadows may be due to either the new engine, or the higher polygon count, though I may be wrong about that.

  22. Maddens Raiders

Damn. You know you’re doing things right when so many ppl come to the news portion of GTP just to troll. I mean, why waste your time – as if you’re going to somehow change our minds lol? Keep moving forward PD.

  23. TheBull

who cares if its anything under 4 miles long you wont be able to race it properly because the tyre model sucks ,to avoid crashes you will have to make a long line after each other and stick to one lane and if its as demanding as indy on tyres expect to pit every 10 laps oh what fun ,its no wonder theres hardly anyone playing the game now

    1. XxFineDriveFDxX

I wouldn’t really say that. I don’t really pay attention to tyre models, but my brother’s on GT5 right now, and it still has a stellar online community. But that’s not saying much. GT5 IS PS3’s only racer to actually take seriously, lol.

    2. TomBrady

      @xxfinedrivefdxx
Correction: It’s CONSOLE’S only racer to take seriously. And you still have to race with the right people. I wish GT5 had a hardcore mode, where you would have a safety rating like in iracing. Not to mention heavy damage would always be on, like it should already.

People complain about the online community in GT5, but the fact is, if heavy damage was on all the time, things would be so much better. People would behave themselves for once and we’d have much better racing even in public lobbies.

    3. XxFineDriveFDxX

The heavy damage thing is where I somewhat agree with you TomBrady. I’ve played GRID, when it came out on the 360, and I’ll tell you, THAT’S the best damage model in any console game I’ve ever seen.

Trolling aspect was kept to a minimum, as most of the races were on longer tracks, and those that purposely wrecked ended up quitting after about a minute or two after the wreck.

But since GRID’s online servers were shut down on the PS3, I decided not to get that game, and thus, GT5’s the only racing game I ever touch, that, and besides Ridge Racer, which, I still have for the PS1. ;D

Plus, with all the hosts AFKing to get a lobby going for 24+ hours, GT5’s online services are turning into the Red Light District of racing…

    4. TomBrady

Well I think you mean visually because physically Grid’s damage isn’t really that great. Sure you can total a car, but other collisions don’t affect the handling as much as heavy in GT5. Even heavy in GT5 pales in comparison to the damage in iracing or what it really should be. Frankly, the damage in iracing is exaggerated BUT, it does heavily promote clean driving. Eitherway, I wish GT5 just had heavy damage on from the start, and permanently, except for practice and arcade mode. I really think it would’ve imrpoved online racing. That and not allowing public lobbies to have people driving 500pp cars on racing soft tires would fix the online situation as well lol. Matchmaking would be good too. If they had certain events like in GT5p, that would be cool.

I’m not a big fan of grid but I am still pretty angry about them shutting down the online servers for PS3 only. I hate codemasters for their bias against the PS3. They put less effort into the ps3 versions of their games, and they’ve said bad things about it and the psp in the past. And considering some of their games sold much more copies on the ps3 than xbox or PC, I think they’re a bunch of bellends but that’s besides the point.

    5. XxFineDriveFDxX

Now that you mention it, performance-wise damage could’ve been better. But still, I’m not sure if wrecking your car at 5 miles an hour is considered realistic (It’s been done on GRID once, in the Demolition Derby event, sadly, I couldn’t replicate that)

I’ve never actually tried GRID on the PS3, but hearing about a CAR PACK not even mentioned on some sites, or advertised whatsoever, along with Bathurst, I find discontinuing the service an outrage, especially since Codemasters tests patches and such on the PC, who’s service was also shut down.

Hopefully, GT6 will add a better damage model, performance wise like in FM4, with it’s drag factors in broken fenders and loss of spoilers, and perhaps, it’s cosmetic damage, like that of GRID. THAT would be a major improvement.

    6. PIGBOY

Im glad it has crap damage, next you will want broken arms n legs too….next we might need roadworrthy’s,registration and such

    7. PIGBOY

we need the jeeps out of battlefield 1943 in gt5,they are so much fun to drive, jihad jeep’s = mmmmmm, they create alot of damage too…har har har

    8. Quakebass

As for Grid having the best damage model, I’d have to disagree. I believe Burnout: Paradise has had the best damage model of all time, though it only really gets activated when you get into a massive accident. As far as best damage model in a simulator/best physical AND mechanical damage integration, I think Grid would take the cake.

I agree, I’d like to see the damage model stepped up in GT’s future; either in an update or an all-new game (GT6). At least more dislodgeable parts on more cars, and aero tweaks due to damage. Also, I’d like the cars to be a bit more roll-able; kind of like in Shift 2 where you can tip your car and roll (unrealistically) by sliding into a sand/grass patch; though, SIGNIFICANTLY less extreme than in Shift. When racing, accidents WILL happen, and this being a simulator, they should look and act realistic, especially since we’re talking about GT here.

    9. MyFavoriteGame

The guys I race with usually race pretty clean. but more realistic damage would help a lot….. some understand the concept that, not because you “can” overtake, doesn’t mean that you “should”. Especially on Nurb,…a lot of ppl don’t pick proper overtake spots because they get lazy and Impatient….it also doesn’t help that the race is 1 lap, 600pp, Racing Soft tyres. :D.

But I think the next GT game will address a lot of these issues…Kaz did mention that he wanted to replicate his experience at the Nurb 24HR, to ME that means many thing; Multi-class, Better Damage, More cars on track, Longer races, Team racing….the whole chabang! Be PATIENT FOLKS!

    10. Quakebass

@PIGBOY: So you’re basing driving physics from an FPS game for a decision on a car for GT5?

      Key words:

      driving physics

      FPS game

      car for

      GT5

      They don’t mix well.

    11. TomBrady

      @PIG
Haha those jeeps are cool but I don’t really think GT5 needs another jeep. 2 was more than enough lol

      @Quake
I don’t think you’ve played a lot of PC sims have you? Grid has the best visual damage, but as far as physical damage, I think PC has a few titles with better physical for sure, and better overall damage because in my opinion, physical damage should count for more

      @MyFavorite

I race with clean racer too. But even amongst friends, and clean racers, you’re all less inclined to make that risky pass you would never attempt in the real if heavy damage is on. Playing iracing has made me realize that. The extra consequence of having to stop at the pits and ruining your race makes even clean races race more realistically. Realistic racing is the most fun by far. A lot of people consider iracing the best racing around because the damage, the safety rating, and the race length make you feel like you’re in a real race. Of course, impatience is an issue in iracing too, especially on the first lap. But compared to anything else, iracing has the best behaved community and it goes a long way in making the sim enjoyable. GT5 could be just like that, if everybody was commited to being realistic. No more street cars on racing soft, no more light damage, with boost, and strong slipstream. We should all make an effort to change things, one lobby at a time LOL

    12. TheBull

If you dont race on speedways then you wont understand what i`m getting at ,but when the game first came out you could go three wide at daytona ,without crashing around the turns ,that made the game competitive ,then a year down the line they changed the tyre model and greatly reduced grip and control of the car ,fine if your racing at nurbenring thats single file racing ,but at daytona your now lucky to go two wide in the corner even then theres a risk of being put in the wall ,when you have 10 or more cars in close proximity passing on a straight shouldnt be the only option ,now at Indy the new tyre model used to work great your tyres used to go at around lap 15 ,but you could control the slide safely ,now if you use softs your tyres wear out at lap 6 and hards dont grip at all ,meaning you have to get the line perfect to avoid the wall ,but when your tyres are slightly worn you always hit the wall regardless

So if this speedway isnt 4 miles long your going to slide even with the slipstream on weak ,the second problem i can see with this track is its flat like indy with no banked turns almost like a bristol it will be totally unplayable with the current tyre model using any cars over 300 BHP and that rules out 70% of the cars on here ,so like i say whats the point?

    13. Quakebass

      @TomBrady:

We don’t have any Jeeps in GT5… unless you mean the military VW’s…

And no, I haven’t played (or really LOOKED) at any PC game’s damage… so I may be incorrect. As far as console SIMs, Grid would take the damage cake, but of all console RACERS, Burnout Paradise BY FAR has the best damage model, just not the greatest polygon count.

  24. HOODGE

I knew this amazing track was in the works to come out.. I said it quite a while ago.. While everyone is crying about FM4 amount of trash car DLC (Dodge transit van/Smartcar (OMG)/and AMC Pacer) this month, but they offer nothing in the way of tracks, just watch PD will surprise you. Getting SPA was amazing and that track rendering is awesome. It doesn’t surprise me that the extra tracks that are missing will be coming out. Dam that Screenshot of Motegi looks like the rendering of iRacings version.
I have iracing as well and that track is beautiful. Motegi on FM4 and prior versions is so aweful looking graphically along with the whole game as a whole.. This track is gonna be gorgous. Bet it was laser scanned as well.. I expect Infineon and Valencia down the road as well..
One thing you got to remember is to have patience with Polyphony, cause art and works of genius like we know PD to live by doesn’t come fast and thrown at you like the Dan Greenawalt Gimpmobile game. Sorry to all the FM nutthuggers that are gonna trash my comment. Truth hurts.

    1. TokoTurismo

+1000! Taking your time with art is so much better then speed drawing. I’ll take tracks and save the new cars for GT6 anyday. ;) Don’t you just love backgrounds over seeing things on wheels every month? HA!

    2. XxFineDriveFDxX

Come now, sure FM4’s DLC consists of only cars, and the fact that most of the cars can be considered rubbish. But a Smart car being bad? Have you seen some of the possibilities with tuning? RWD? Three Banger? Smart car’s like a mad hatter hitting the track, good possibilities can come from that, for sure.

I fail to see how FM4 looks bad, graphic-wise. I mean, you get screen shakes I think at around 150 miles per hour (correct me if I’m wrong), and well, damage, while it may not be a hundred percent realistic, is better than GT5’s as a whole. (I say this because a game with 100% damage just ain’t fun, no one wants THAT amount of realism)

And the whole reason why PD takes the amount of time they do, is their staff. Their staff is about 10-15x smaller than Turn 10. While smaller staffs generally put the icing on the cake content-wise, people with shorter attention spans generally flock to the other games. It’s a sad reality, it is.

I wouldn’t just bash FM4’s DLC, even if it doesn’t contain tracks. I mean, I want a Pacer, Smart car, and hell, even a Ford (little mistake on your part? :P) Transit van in GT5. A game with just fast super cars, just doesn’t nail that point for originality, when it comes for tuning.

      TL;DR?

Twin ring motegi’s good and all, but we should get some newer tracks, and perhaps a mix of cars, as FM4 did in their DLC. ;P

    3. MuoNiuLa

      @Hoodge: Typical GT biased comment.

I love how you forget to mention Porsche coming to FM this month. Please get all of your facts straight before you go bashing another game. Thanks.

And if you’re going to compare the DLC of both games, at least do it fairly. It’s not ALL about tracks. What else did we get after waiting one WHOLE year for DLC, besides Spa? Oh yeah, more cars that are basically RMs and one use paint and helmets that you have to PAY with real money again if you wanted more than one. DLC 2 was also lacking, with only 2 cars that were new. The other two (GT-R and Cooper) were just newer year models. DLC 3, I admit, was good but it would have been better if they started that way sooner. But as you can see, both GT and Forza are lacking in DLC is some way. GT needs to step it up with the cars and FM can definitely use more tracks.

And Forza 4 has not even been out as long, yet they were still able to give out DLC from the start. Who knows how much better it will be when Forza 4 is as old as GT5? I would imagine that a game out for a year have more DLC content than a game that’s only been out for a number of months. Too bad that isn’t the case here.

    4. XxFineDriveFDxX

I’m siding with MuoNiuLa, content wise with him.

Don’t get me wrong, I support PD all the way by purchasing all the content up to date. I’m loving that Premium Jag, and Old beetle, two of which aren’t on FM4 (Let’s be fair here).

Although, you have to understand MuoNiuLa, Turn 10’s got a bigger staff. I just prayed that this all wasn’t already on the disc (Right so, it wasn’t. I’m looking at you, Capcom) Track wise, I could care less honestly. You could call me a dull driver then, but that’s mainly because the only track round these parts where I live, is only the Milwaukee Mile, which, I’D LOVE that to be in the game.

You do bring up an interesting prediction. I’m sure with FM4 being a year old, they’d stop most of the arguments of DLC on their forums. Like I said, if PD could at least do DLC, like Car pack three, then I’d be happy. A mix of new, and old, and you’d have a happier supporter!~ As for tracks, at least maybe put the old GT4 one’s in, revamped and such, which, I’m sure Twin ring will be.

    5. Quakebass

      @MuoNiuLa:

What do you mean by “DLC 3, I admit, was good but it would have been better if they started that way sooner.” – DLC 3 was a month early…

Also, just to this entire group: Forza 4 has a better car list than GT5, period. GT5 may have more cars, but Forza has so many brilliant cars and iconic cars, and GT5 has 150+ duplicates, and 800+ cars are in low-resolution.

This being said, PD’s workforce is SO much smaller than T10’s, so DLC and Updates won’t come out as quickly, and will likely have less content, especially since the workforce is split between the two games.

    6. MuoNiuLa

@XxFineDriveFDxX: I admit you have a point about their staff, and I am aware of that. But what I’m trying to get at is, how long can PD use that as a valid excuse? Eventually, they will need to step their game up and make a bigger team so they can get more done in less time. It’s bad enough that they aimed at such high level of detail with the premium cars, that it takes them 6 months just to create ONE car.

    7. MyFavoriteGame

Wheres the person who’s inevitably gonna mention the earthquake in Japan?…. wait for it….

But seriously, PD has become very successful and can more than afford a bigger staff. Kaz is a very hands-on type guy and a perfectionist….but at what cost?

    8. another_jakhole

“Wheres the person who’s inevitably gonna mention the earthquake in Japan?…. wait for it….”

      What does that mean?

    9. MyFavoriteGame

OK OK I’ll do….there was an earthquake in Japan 6 months after GT5’s release which caused PD to move, which in turn caused a lot of the content to be delayed.

    10. lebes14

While I’m a huge fan of gran turismo, after my friend rented fm4 over the weekend I’m having trouble giving PD excuses. We had gobs of fun just creating cars that were unique to us, which is something that doesn’t exist in gran turismo, that tied with the fact that it has perhaps the best car list ever constructed makes for a fully legit game that almost makes up for the lack of physics. And when you consider it took the GT series this long to get this level of physics in the game I fear forza may render GT obsolete in the next couple installments. GT is a wonderful game, but now that they have their physics reasonably realistic, minus tire wear, they need to focus on the most important thing about automobiles and racing: the passion, and connection people have with their cars, give us the endless possibilities to personalize a car and make it “our” car rather then “a” car.(end rant)

    11. lebes14

It seems with the insane size and accomplishments that PD has had, there is no reason for PD to be so small, now that it’s obstructing the progress of the game.

    12. another_jakhole

“OK OK I’ll do….there was an earthquake in Japan 6 months after GT5′s release which caused PD to move, which in turn caused a lot of the content to be delayed.”

I wouldn’t say it was delayed from the move. They had to have finished some content already, and it wasn’t the whole of PD that had to move. It might or might not have caused a delay in updates, because there’s a small select group that works on them. But, if anything though, work could have been halted for a short time for personal reasons.

    13. another_jakhole

      “@Hoodge: Typical GT biased comment.”

hahaha you mean “Biased comment is biased.” I’ve seen much more biased comments in favor of Forza on GTP, especially recently.

    14. another_jakhole

Damn it, sorry for the triple post.

“It seems with the insane size and accomplishments that PD has had, there is no reason for PD to be so small, now that it’s obstructing the progress of the game.”

It’s been that way for the last 20 years. It’s not like anybody has the qualifications they need, plus it’s more efficient managing the smallest team possible, mainly for when there are problems that need to be resolved, technical (programming) and feature-wise. Some of the things we were told would be in GT5 couldn’t work on the PS3 and were found along the way of creating the game. I don’t think all of it was about content either.

  25. Quakebass

This took me by surprise! I’ll be looking forward to this track if it’s coming out.

    1. MuoNiuLa

@Quakebass: What I meant by that was IMO, it would have been better if PD released a car pack with variety seen in DLC 3 from the start.

  26. DYLAN777-is-not

Ill be pissed if the dlc is gonna be the gt academy cars. Id probably stop playing gt5 if thats the case. Im bored now and adding in game cars with just a sticker on it is beyond stupid. It better have at least six new cars that arent useless (slow, ugly, etc). Ive yet to use the stupid leaf, the sciroco the golf many of the TC cars. I would even pay easily for like 20+ new (cool) standard cars. Not just gt4, gt2 cars but like new cars not seen before. Like 5 new vintage muscle cars, 5 european modern ultra supercars(aston martin the one77 would be awesome), 5 randoms that PD likes and 5 big race cars. Id pay 10 20 bucks for standard cars that i actually care about, i would.

    1. another_jakhole

“Ill be pissed if the dlc is gonna be the gt academy cars.”

That’s just stupid. Don’t you realize that even the TC cars weren’t the exact same? It’s not like the cars that we’re able to Race Modify are the exact same visually. I don’t even believe the sounds would be the same if you were to add the tuning parts to the original car.

    2. another_jakhole

Oh, and I’m not saying the GT Academy cars are any different performance-wise. I’m saying it’d be crazy to have the GT Academy cars be paid DLC.

  27. BlisteredHand

A dull, stark looking track, but laid out well for good online racing. With plenty of overtaking.

  28. Skython

Cue the GT5 threads asking things about Twin Ring Motegi in GT5 that no one can answer, and you guessed it… More wishlist threads.

  29. patriotzero

    1. TomBrady

They’re not going to charge us for the GT academy cars dummy. They might sell us the LMP 2s they’re racing, but any of the GTA cars will be free just like the 370z and GT-R GTA editions

  30. ChicoMaloXD

Average GT5 player: OMYGOSH! A new track is coming to GT5!! Let’s do some drag racing on it… -.-

Im sure it’s for gt5 or gt6 watch at the detail and then you can compare the surface with other gt track, it’s the same

    1. TokoTurismo

Nope. Not FM4 at all. In FM4, the Motegi track is dirty. THIS one however, isn’t. It looks clean and has that “GT” touch to it. This is 100% GT5’s Motegi track.

    2. Foxiol

Forza is not going to give you tracks…just cars cars and yeah more cars! Until they reach the amount of cars in GT5 and of course the amount of money that PD did with GT5 sells… lol…yes tons of cars.

    1. Jordan

I fired up GT4 myself just to be sure; it’s very different from the track pictured here.

  33. WJHMH

It was one of my favorites in GT4, way over due but looking forward to the next DLC track pack.

  34. carfanatic45

New DLC: Nissan Leaf GT Academy Ed., Nissan 370Z GT Academy Ed., Nissan GT-R Skyline Gt Academy Ed., and a Nissan GT-R GT3 GT Academy Ed.
    Gran Turismo Cafe’ Photo Location
    Twin Ring Motegi both variations
and an asortment of GT Academy themed driver suits.
All this and (probably) more coming May 10th, 2013.

    1. swynder

dont invent, probably by that time gt6 has already been announced, and even if that dlc existed polyphony would release it this year not next year

  35. HuskyGT

I would love this to be true. If it is then I also hope that it has time change so we can replicate that dusky look that it had in GT4. I loved this track so much.

  36. patriotzero

    Infenion Raceway
    Seattle Circuit
    Midfield
    Apricot
    El capitan
    all in 1 pack lol

    What’s next Silverstone?

    1. TomBrady

I want Macau!!!!!!!!!!!! If any of you haven’t seen Macau’s city track, it’s friggin insane. It makes monaco look like monza lol (I’m exaggerating). I’d also really like Zandvoort, and VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY!! Best track in America hands down. We already know bathurst is coming.

As for tracks in previous GT’s, Costa Di Amalfi!! I love that track. The scenery is really good too. Plus El Capitan and Grand Canyon. Who wouldn’t want to see those tracks in full HD?

Motegi is a great track to add because not only is it a good track, it’s real, and even better it has a much needed oval for the NASCAR portion of the game. I really hope infineon comes back, and seattle as well.

It’s easy to name a bunch of tracks we want, but I doubt even half of them will be added.

I think they should add silverstone though, considering it is where GT academy takes place. I’m not a huge fan of the track, but it should be in GT5, with ALL layouts, not just the old F1 layout. The new F1 layout is better and we all know it.

  37. BlindZenDriver

Motegi is a nice track or rather it’s two nice tracks. I hope they make these two into a GT5 download.

  38. cmbeal317

I was kind of thinking they would do something similar to this. Though I thought they would use GT Academy to introduce Silverstone. I used to love driving Motegi back in GT4 and would love to see it return again for GT5.

  39. Drevenger

    Sweet!!
When could we expect a confirmation?

I hope they dont get any more bad stuff in Japan, the situation is allready pretty bad.

    1. EDK

That’s the hairpin that was used for the License test in the BMW M3 on GT4. It leads onto the Start/Finish Straight of the East course, that’s not the Main Straight, which is used on the West Short Course. The corner leading onto the main straight is a chicane.

  40. MyFavoriteGame

For all you complainers….There you go,…PD does listen to the fans!! This track was HIGHLY requested….Keep it up PD.

    1. SimonK

It’s a bit late in the day though, what is there really left to do in GT5 with a new track? Especially when they don’t add any new events with them.

    2. TomBrady

What? of course they add new events with DLC tracks. As of RIGHT NOW, check your seasonals. Spa is on a few of them, and EVEN PEOPLE WITHOUT THE DLC can race on spa, for only those seasonal events.

They can use DLC tracks for events, because everybody has to download them, whether they pay for them or not. Frankly, I think it’s quite generous of them to allow those losers who didn’t get the DLC’s race on Spa, even if it is just for a couple of seasonals.

    3. Quakebass

He’s talking an A-Spec expansion – a race or two doesn’t really cut it, especially since we’ve only gotten the DLC track seasonals recently. I’d like a set of events or at least trophies with each DLC containing a track. Maybe trophies for a car pack. SOMETHING that can give us a little something EXTRA to do. That’s what the GT series has been all about, but we’re starting to run out of things to try and do.

Also, what’s the point of buying DLC if the events using the DLC tracks are free to play? Sure, there’s Arcade mode, but you won’t get a lot out of that…

    4. TomBrady

True. I would like that too but it’s still a new track for us to race. Like you, I don’t get excited by racing in arcade mode, but even the few seasonals and online racing is enough for to be happy. I’m just glad they’re adding stuff really. But more in game events would be wicked pisser

  41. ed24

With NASCAR in GT5, Motegi’s absence was really quite strange, as it was a great opportunity for them to easily get another oval into the game. At least that can hopefully be rectified now.

    1. GTP_Fangio

It would be great if the two or three versions of this track could be playable or :) Driveble

  42. mickoafna

We will probably get this track after the GT Academy 2012 is finnished :-) I just hope we will he he

  43. ENTERSANDMAN13

One track???? thats it?!!!!! FFS PD!!

Lol only kiding! :D this is awesome news!!! my spirits are once again high with gt5!.

  44. Callumfromleeds

I may have made a ‘woopee’ sound when I saw this :D If this is the next DLC I don’t care that I’ve had to wait. Favourite track of all time.

  45. cbabb

If and when it does appear in GTA 2012, I hope it will soon be available as DLC to the full game. :)
