Just ahead of its official launch tomorrow, the FIA Rally Star DLC required for online participation is now available for WRC 9.

Polyphony Digital has released more information on the scheduling for the 2021 season of the Gran Turismo FIA Online Championship. Although we don’t have a full race calendar yet — and we’ll bring you that when it’s available — there are nonetheless important changes to how players will participate in the races.

The GT Sport Time Trials have refreshed for another week, but there’s a little change to procedings. Where usually you’d have two events to occupy you over the next 14 days, there’s now only one.

PlayStation Spain has organized an official national championship for Gran Turismo players resident in the country, which takes place later this month.

According to Polyphony Digital studio boss Kazunori Yamauchi, the total lifetime player count for Gran Turismo Sport now stands at 9.5 million users. Yamauchi shared this figure as part of an interview with Japanese journalist Toshifume Watanabi, for the Japanese regional version of Octane magazine, published this last weekend.

Polyphony Digital has already confirmed the 2021 FIA Gran Turismo Online Championship and, although we haven’t seen an official calendar yet, preparations are well underway. That includes new Balance of Performance (BOP) calculations for the various vehicles involved ahead of the first racing action of the season.
