I found it to be quite cringe. It's extremely on the nose about being an advertisement for the game, although, yes, one could argue it's inherently an ad for the brand regardless. The unconvincing imposed game footages ruin the immersion. We laugh at the usual 'boy mashing bleep bloop on his Polystation' you see all over TV but this is Sony themselves with all the source material and knowledge of depicting the medium correctly, but then again Sony's movie department is mostly misses. All the Nissan logos is not too far from GM's not so subtle presence in the Transformer movies. I'm reminded of games like America's Army or Call of Duty that doesn't even try to hide the fact it's a military recruitment tool for a certain target demographic. This "film" in absolutely no way can ever be respected as a form of art, it's a 90 minute product placement. Doesn't matter if Sony was able to attach notable Hollywood names to the project, it's an easy payday for them.
For sure, I largely agree with your trailer impression but cool race footage with a drone in theatres or at home on a 4K seems like it could be a pretty cool time.

Welcome to the movie industry where everything is a paid advertisement 🤓
how the heck does this have 5.7 million views lol? Who wants to watch a Gran Turismo movie?

I think this game can't really become a good movie, and It's my all time favorite franchise by far
Yes it can , while this one might not be the best movie ever still it can be good , hell example who knew that a Apple's Tetris movie would be so good

As SIM Racers, it’s our DUTY to go see this movie if it comes to theaters. Its failure or success will somewhat come from a generation of gamers that will range anywhere from 50 to 15 years old.
And over 50's. And what about the under 15's! ;)
That’s quite a broad swath of potential viewers if you ask me.
But a vastly skewed bias towards male viewers, so that is half of those potential viewers across that age range not really there. 'You know that driving game that you say I play too much, do you want to see a movie based on it?' Get to ****

I was sceptical about a film based on Gran Turismo from the start. The question for me was "Why?" Who has been asking for a GT movie over all these years! Not many I'm sure.

The premise of the film as reported at least, gives it a story to wrap the car racing around. It just looked so cliched and stilted in the trailer to me though, and doesn't sway me from not being a movie I'm in a hurry to see. And definitely not paying money to see it. Then again, I am outside of that 'age range', so not really aimed at me. ;)

As for a "DUTY" to see the film, nah, I didn't ask for a film to be based on a racing game, and don't want to encourage anyone to consider making more. Need for Speed should have been warning enough. ;)

So Need for Speed movie was bad, and I can see this being worse. They seem to be going a bit OTT with the overlays of the 'sim' racing on the 'real' world. Don't get me wrong, I like what the director, Neill Blomkamp, for what he has done in the past. He has made some stunning things on low budgets. I like that Djimon Hounsou has a more normal character to play, rather than just Sc-Fi. I've liked stuff that David Harbour and Orlando Bloom have done in the past and I wish them well. I didn't know about Geri Horner, so that is a huge red flag. 😲 Fingers crossed she got the part because of her good acting and not because of who her husband is, because most of her acting, according to IMDB, has been playing 'herself' in music videos. 🤔 Time will tell on that one.

I hope it is not as bad as I expect it to be. But it will be interesting to see the budget, and how it fares.

And let's hope they kept PD away from the car audio reproduction. ;):lol::lol:

I imagine if he doesn't, he'll at least get something since I believe he helped out with some of the driving. Correct me of course if I am not correct, but I think there was a shot with him there while they were filming in hungary.

With GM in Transformers the product placement is cringy and out of place because it’s a movie based on something fictional. Having Nissan plastered everywhere in the Gran Turismo movie makes sense because it’s the company that ran the real life competition this movie is about.

Ford and their racing team were the protagonists of Ford vs Ferrari. Is that movie cringe for portraying a real life brand front and center as a retelling of real life events?

Its as if the story involved a competition where Nissan literally was a massive bankroller in it:

Accurate to me. Guess you want to also tell me that GT Academy was an on the nose advertisement too?

Here's hoping that the movie will inspire PD to make a better career mode for the single player side of the game. It would make sense to have the movie link with the game so any new players that come from watching the movie will be able to relive the path the movie took.

I’ve been saying that for years:
I just don't understand why Single Player can not just be like GT Academy. Create your avatar with an option(not mandatory) to train them for stamina. Do the exact trials and races like the real GT Academy: dune buggies, karts, 370Z races, GT-R races, do a season in the R35 GT3/LMP or M6 GT3 or AMG GT GT3(since there will be the (AMG Academy).

Make the game fun. I didn't mind the trials at Goodwood. What was missing from that was the Goodwood circuit.

I guarantee, if GTS were to have Pikes Peak, I'd buy the game for that alone.

Improve your skills and racing strategies...
Wonder if there will be tests similar to real life GT Academy.

Some type of Career progression like this:
View attachment 1077737

Players can choose to remain at karts or continue to move to a higher discipline. Follow a strictly open wheel career, production car or closed cockpit.

I'm sure PD could even implant the exact plans from the GT Academy: GT4 cars to GT3 to GT500 to Super Formula.

How in the world would a GT TV series even work? It has no protagonist, no real character arch or even an antagonist. What? Is it going to follow the story of how Luca created his Cafe? I mean... I just don't see it.

The script is about a guy grinding Tokyo for one year (365 episodes) and one final episode where he recognizies that he will never be able to buy the Ford Roadster and then sells all his 20M legendary cars in the the UCD for 12K each.

Maybe something between comedy and drama... 😉

Regards
M

I agreed with you in 2022; looks like we got our answer; it looks fantastic!

@Jordan You hyped for the movie?

The LMP crash in the trailer is based on Anthony Davidsons crash at Le Mans in 2012.

Any movie about any type of vehicles narrows the audience drastically to begin with.

Expanding the story to include people and other events expands the audience.

If they can balance those well, like with the Ford vs Ferrari movie, it will turn out fairly well.

However, the ending will make or break it.

Sry, but a GT movie produced by PD? About an event that happened how many years ago? Really? You want me to buy this in 2023? FFS!

Produced by Sony pictures actually (Imagine that) and supposed to be based on the story of one driver that won said event (Albeit, put into the present).

OK, I'm not splitting hairs...but this was years ago.

Rush was based on events that happened decades before the time this movie is set in, so there's that. 🤷‍♂️
You're not inferring that Gt/PD/Sony sim Drama is equivalent to Lauda and Hunt? Now that really is a movie I would watch.

Well of course they're going to play up the drama and romance in the movie so it's more entertaining for general viewing.

Even in movies like Rush and Ford v Ferrari the off-track drama is played up to make the story more dramatic and compelling for the audience, especially since most of them don't care about some dumb 200MPH hunk of steel that is only designed to go in circles.

These are sports drama films, not documentaries for gosh sake.

No, this has nothing to do with Anthony's accident at Le Mans, it has something to do with Jan's own accident at the Nurburgring...

  1. Interest from the motorsport community
  2. Interest form the gaming community
  3. Paid promotion

It's easy to get millions of views on any trailer if a publisher puts enough money behind it.

I wish they'd put more attention on the Career in the game instead, but it's just me. (Edit: Me and most likely some people.)

Polyphony aren't making this movie.

Gran Turismo has become WAY too pretentious and seemingly never learns from its own pitfalls... A movie wont change this.
