Is Bugatti About to Enter the Vision GT Project?

bugatti_vgt_teaser_003With all eyes on the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance yesterday, Bugatti picked its moment to get a spot of viral advertising underway. Its choice of accompanying hashtag harking back to the company’s founder Ettore Bugatti – #imaginEBugatti – may have raised a few wry smiles, but not as much as the image accompanying one Tweet from the official account:

Unless our eyes deceive both us and our tipster Solo, that’s a pit crew wearing Gran Turismo overalls, fresh from servicing something exiting frame right at a rate of knots.

Bugatti is a very recent addition to the Gran Turismo series, first appearing in the PSP version of the game in 2009 with the Veyron before being included in the main ‘canon’ titles in both Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6. It has been around in various forms for over a century though, with the Type 57 Atlantic once being the most expensive car in the world and the Veyron’s predecessor – the barking mad EB110 – a personal favourite of Michael Schumacher.

Bugatti also chose to share this curiously vague teaser video last week:

The possibilities surrounding the image are myriad. When GTPlanet spoke to Kazunori Yamauchi at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, he suggested that there were more manufacturers queuing up to join the Vision GT project than the initial selection, though he couldn’t say who! It may also just be a coincidence as Bugatti starts publicising the Chiron supercar in earnest – the image creator may simply have forgotten to remove the GT logo overalls from the pitcrew.

As Gran Turismo is rapidly becoming a platform for car manufacturers to share their fantastic new creations with the world long before they reach public hands, we’re choosing to hope it’s the former!

A part of me cringes at this. I’d hope that all racing game developers would quit the exclusivity wars. But if so may are playing the game, why not PD and SONY?

  1. Sier_Pinski

Please tell me this is not Bugatti’s response to an already diabolical concept by SRT.

I can only imagine what kind of 4,000 or even 10,000-HP thingamajig they have in mind to pleasure those Route X top speed fanatics… o_O

  2. TRLWNC7396

With tire marks on the front AND back, I think we can be guaranteed that this is an all wheel drive car. Not a surprise, anymore, but it’s nice to confirm. ;)

    1. Tenacious D

Oooh, good call there. An all wheel drive Bugatti to go head to head with the Lambos? Sign me up for that too!

  3. GBalao888

If Bugatti were to make their Vision car, they better not make it too over-powered (however, a horsepower of 1500 would be acceptable) and murderous to drive like the SRT Tomahawk X.

    1. Tenacious D

I’m definitely with you there. I can barely tolerate Formula 1/GT. Give me a car that mere mortals can be halfway competent racing.

  4. Tenacious D

“In the endless hunt for speed, the horizon beckons… echoed beyond reality. Pushed forward by pure instinct. Every inch of the race sets me free. I chase the day, the night… the new dawn.
    Imagine the impossible.”

Remarks about GT7 are beginning to make me salivate. Could this be a dual teaser? For a Vision GT race car, and a new Bugatti, a Chiron, or something else with EB in the name? “New dawn… imagine the impossible.” I’m going to be imagining something very new at work today.

    1. Tenacious D

One more thing. Choosing to put out that image with the GT logo on those crew suits and the pit signal plate, and the fact that it’s a scene featuring a pit crew prominently… yeah, that’s deliberately designed to spark net rumors. Thank God for viral marketing. ;D

  5. SZRT Ice

7 pit crew members with 7 GT logos.
    GT7 is 3 syllables.
If you break “Bugatti” down into 3 syllables you get “Bug” “Att” “I”.
The 3rd letter of the first syllable is “G”.
The 3rd letter of the second syllable is “T” (Hmm, GT?)
The 3rd syllable “I” is also the Roman numeral for the number 1.
    3+3+1=7.

    ZomG!

    Turismogatti confirmed.
    XD

Okay, but in all seriousness… Anyone remember the song at the end of the video being in a video for GT5? It was up for a short while before being taken down shortly afterwards.

    Found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2vwla9q9yg

Typical… just as i put my F1 Ferrari Playseat up for sale… GT6 make a counter move… they really must hate me haha

  7. Wider

Have you seen the rain effects on the screen? They where 100% digital. Also the surface of the road. Could this be a teaser for the upcoming GT7? If so, the graphics will be amazing :D

    1. Tenacious D

Amazing graphics are a given, considering how powerful PS4 is turning out to be. Between Drive Club and P CARS, the potential for PD to milk the graphic prowess of this system for GT7 is extremely high. If they can harness those cores for even more lifelike physics, solid bot AI and some darn good damage, we could have the king of racers on our hands.

  8. TJC_69

Chance of this being a future VGT teaser – 80%+

Chance of this being Bugatti leaking a GT game announcement before PD does – minus 3000%

    1. Tenacious D

It will be more amazing in GT7, but I sure wouldn’t mind a Bugatti showing up in the current Gran Turismo.

  9. littleregret265

Haven’t seen the trailer yet, but methinks there are one too many coincidences for there not to be something in the pipeline. As usual, the GTPlanet community are very quick to put 2 and 2 together. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

  10. Psychopulse

ZOMG! Bugattiiii no wayy… So awesome! Just imagine the Chiron as GT7’s cover car… Wow! Nice observation CrackedTrigger. 7 people, 7 GT logos, I hope this turns out to be exactly what we’re all waiting for! :P

  11. CrackedTrigger

7 people in the photo, and 7 GT logos in the photo, hopefully not a sign of things to come as I’d like this in GT6 but with the Chiron set to come out in circa 2016… Possibly the cover car for GT7?… Just talking out loud here… Haven’t a clue like everyone else, but we’d be unlikely to get a production car in a GT game prior to it being available to market, and I doubt EB would show their hand to manufacturers.

    1. Tenacious D

This could possibly be a combo teaser.
      – Bugatti Vision GT race car in GT6
      – That, and the Chiron for GT7
      – And GT7 showing up before 2017
This would give me a very merry Christmas

  12. Mrweewee123

Well, as seen in the pit stop picture, then men have GT logos on there back…but where is the hint of what the car might look like…?

  13. Scuderia Paul

Now this is very interesting and exciting! A stripped-out Veyron SS with sharper styling and a fixed rear wing, which I think is visible in the teaser, would be great.

  14. RACECAR

Just when I finally began losing interest in GT6 (part of which can be blamed on the new hardware I got), along comes this.

I swear, this always happens with me: I begin to feign interest and then BOOM, stuff like this comes out of nowhere.

  15. Eager Snake

Sadly I’m really tired of the game, I have moved on to other games in the meantime, and also, Metal Gear came back to me again. It was probably the second franchise I’ve fallen in love with so, no surprise there, but it’s actually pretty sad how everything ended up with GT6.
I’m not deleting the game, I only have the digital version of it, but I suppose I’m going to wait until december. If they reach the 2 year mark and they haven’t released the course maker and all of the remaining features, then I’m done until GT7.
    Besides, I need to buy a PS4.

  16. JASON_ROCKS1998

Either A: Chirion will be coming to GT very soon or B: VGT Bugatti will be coming to GT very soon.

  17. another_jakhole

Just saw the teaser. And I do have to eat something first before progressing as an astronaut to board the ISS so I can have the best tinkle with the best view possible whilst eating vegetables. #eatdemveggies

  18. Enraged

Now this might be a crazy theory, but what if the cover car of GT Sports is the Bugatti Chiron. I’m probably wrong, but what if?

    1. Tenacious D

No, that’s not half crazy. A Ford GT for GT4, a Bugatti on the cover of GT7? Sounds like a winner to me.

  19. ttfn

This is going to be something very interesting to follow….. it’s not often i hold my breath but this is 1 such occasion…. Let’s see what they can conjure up in the foreseeable future eh ?

    1. AudiMan2011

The Chiron is more likely to happen than a VGT. There are rumours circulating that a prototype will be revealed at Pebble Beach this year.

A Bugatti VGT has nearly no chance of happening.

    1. yzfmike

With a rear jackman aka to F1 jackman, some sort of sports car with F1 underpinnings> Bugatti -> VW -> Future F1 team rumors.

    2. Tenacious D

I don’t normally go for the bleeding edge of racing, but a Bugatti race car? I’d sign up for that.
