Semi ridiculous post. Logitech used to be the flagship wheel of the GT series. They released the Driving Force GT but Kaz himself used and spoke about the G25 on many occasions. Therefore, many of us went out and bought the G25 or G27 assuming that this partnership would continue and that full implementation was just another thing to look forward to in GT5. Sadly, we were mistaken, but we detrimentally relied upon PD's implications that the G25/G27 were the "top of the line" wheels for the game. (As they were partners with Logitech, and these were/are the best that Logitech has to offer).

You are right but just like the game took longer to be released and many where buying the PS3 because of the game, but before the game came out - some 2/3 years ago, it seems that many did the same with the G25/G27. There was always a risk...calculated by the buyers?! maybe...
Myself, I only bought the PS3 when the game was out (and that meant the latest 320GB slim model) and have order the Fanatec GT3RSv2 CSed. + RWSv2 but only after reading that it work within the game. I minimized my risk.
Both calls are acceptable...but the later involves much less risk on the buyers side...

sounds about right.

I really do think it was a case of Sony forcing this game out before it was ready.

I'm not complaining though. I love it, flaws and all.

I don't mind incremental updates. atleast I have the game in hand.

honestly, 90% is great. best driving experience ever on a console.

I think Sony have been the real problem with the title for some time.
First they are the reason its been delayed so often and that is not ecxlusively to do with delivering GT for the PSP in order to relaunch the new updated handeld.

The Game was done to 90% a couple of years ago according to Kaz at the time, then Sony came along and wanted 3D, because 3D is going to be massive! and they have been investing heavily in all the developement of technology, ranging from helping create new Camera technology for movie makers right down to the home cinema/tv equipment for us all to view 3D Blue rays.
GT5 was almost ready again, Kaz comes with the, 'I can release it at almost anytime' quotes and first we expect an xmas 09 release then first quarter 10, then bam nothing.

Of course 3D home tech is still relatively new at the time, and isnt really ready for a full on home market launch especially in the global economic conditions, so a delay to the winter holiday season seems reasonable for a bigger push toward 3D and this makes more financial sense to Sony exec's who have adopted it as there baby to make Sony's 3D tech in the first part of the 21st century as succesfull as Playstaion 1 and whom, wholly intend to make their own mark and name in the world of high tech.
(Sony have had many such doomed schemes over ther years, when larger financial consequences may have been easier to write off)
The trouble is in the current world economic climate, they can not see beyond their own bulky cumbersome 3D 'Active Shutter Technology' glasses that the never ending novelty that 3D has always been, continues to be a bit of a old dog to Sony, home uptake is not nearly boyant enough to recoup investment at this time.

Kaz and his team had spent a year having to incorporate 3D tech into GT5at the expense of having to remove some of the coded routines of features we had expected and heard about for years previously, as im sure implementing 3D tech in the finished title has culminated in a lot of the elements of GT5 that we have either seen or heard Kaz talking about so positively over the past few years suddenly vanishing and turning into, by anyones standards, let alones Kaz's perfectionist standards, poor and shodily implemented features.
PD were still not free to release the product, as Sony continued to hold it back looking to maximise its potential usefulness.
In the mean Time Kinect is due, and Sony have Move and Eye toy on the way to compete, Sony in their urgency to use their most succesfull franchise try to get Move and Eye toy somehow implemented into GT5 too, something which PD failed massively to pull off in the time given, without compromising the title even further.

Shambolic is a word that comes to my mind for the whole process, even the last minute delays, pushing back the title beyond the announced release date.
In the end Marketing would appear to have been extremely limited for such a hugely influential title, reviews are somewhat mixed and the product is clearly somewhat short of Kazonuri's true vision and most worryingly for some, Sony's (internal) own expectation and needs.
3D is still proving to be the white elephant in the room, and its inclusion is pushing the now aging PS3 tech to beyond the initial boundaries that Kaz and his team were already determined to stretch the technology to the borders of its limits some 5 years earlier in the initial game design, this has cost gamers a truly genre defining title at its first full outing on PS3.

The Patches are coming quite fast, and its quite clear that a lot of the content that was initially cut to the production room floor is available, its just a question of whether it can actually be crammed into GT life, or just tacked onto Arcade or Online modes, where system resources seem slightly more free for PD to work with.

Who knows Kaz may in fact be able to raise the phoenix from the ashes after all, or we may have to wait another console generation to get closer to what we had been expecting over the past few years.

This is just a small take on why i feel we have what was finally delivered.
There are rational business explanations why things in GT5 have turned into a hashed up effort of a final product, the very fact that Kaz has often been upbeat and ready to release several times over the last couple of years, clearly shows that it is not time alone that brought the quality of the final product to its knees.

Now come on Kaz patch in a descent set of Leaderboards for now and ill be somewhat happier, while i wait :sly:

I've only posted a link reference :indiff:

I know, it wasn't aimed at you in particular and by the way the link had already been posted.:sly: I meant Nowgamer souldn't post such a story without linking to evidence to back-up their claim.

i believe this is all the damage we will see in GT5.. I dont see them re working the AI just to implement damage into A and B spec modes... Especially when there are so many other problems with the game to address.

Its quite frustrating when we get a quater of the experience in every different mode of gameplay.

I agree, with the way the A.I goes around punting you if given the chance, can you imagine the amount of complaints if damage was included in A-spec and maybe even more so in B-spec.

Mig
i dont understand, i dont pretend to be a programmer or anything but if you have the damage part done thats 95% of the work isnt it the rest would be a simple make a option menu? they just have to go the last 10 yards to put it into gt mode and fell short once again?

I suspect (well, I hope), damage will be made available for GT Life mode to if they've tweaked the AI. I think the AI is pretty good for one exception: cars bumping in you. When you brake, they seem to avoid you (or at least not hit you) but when you crashed they act like not seeing you. Only enabling damage in GT Life without tweaking the AI too is not a good idea I think.

I don't think it's a resource problem (like head tracking) because damage behaviour (apart from physical damage) does not seem very complicated to me.

Wow..seriously..theres like more complaints then appreciation for this patch. I think it would be better for PD to just not even bother with this game anymore. Theres probably going to be whining for every patch they release and these patches are not even breaking the game.

You moved the update about the patch destroying game files..

This is a bad move, people will not find it in this thread, and thus it is of no use to about 90% of people,. with its own thread the whole community can see it.

Sometimes i question the sanity of the mods here. sure clean up the crap but dont move important information out of sight.

And the Lord Mod shall strike you down with fire and brimstone:scared:

well like I said I lost my latest photos i took last night and some purchase of tuning for my MX5 not sure why but its scary to think that i could have lost my intire save game , i hope the backup is coming soon .

glac

Update adds mechanical damage option, but there are issues with it causing you to lose cars/photos, in same cases prompting you to re install the game corrupting your data, ie you lose your save file.

I don't know if it's just me but this update might have reduced a bit of frame tearing, but i'm not sure too sure, as of now i'm on the Nurburgring Type V 4 hour Endurance race and the frame rate is very smooth.

Can someone check if it destroys your save game before i update? :P Seriously someone mentions that it might corrupt your save and the biggest whine in this thread is the omg no damage in gt mode? Way the AI drives are you people sadists?

If the AI had any sense of self preservation, or acknowledged your presence on track at all rather than drive right through you if they are near you, then hell give us damage for gt mode. But all damage in gt mode would do is get you to use the restart race a hell of a lot more. Sure does not sound fun or helpful to me at all.

So has the patch eaten anyones save game? Sitting here wanting to fire up and let b spec do some races while i get ready for the day, but afraid to update cause if i lose all my stuff i will not be a happy camper.

I would, but at work. I really hope you cant. Then its not endurance anymore! :dopey:
Sure it is, it isn't much different to a driver change that allows the first driver to rest and recover. The only difference is that it allows you to pause time in this simulated life while you focus on real life. Fact is you can pause a race already and people will especially in a 24 hour race but having a save option when you pit allows you to give your PS3 a rest at the same time.

Three levels of Mechanical Damage in Online races only.
why.... I care more about a-spec than onlne for the mech damages.... I don't really understand what's going on in kaz mind this time!
