GT6 Future Updates: Course Maker & New Cars Coming, No New Tracks

Gran Turismo 6

The “Course Maker” in GT6 remains as one of the game’s last unreleased features – and the one fans are anticipating the most. We haven’t heard much about the new tool in GT6, though, which is expected to be a significant upgrade over the course maker we last saw in GT5.

Kazunori Yamauchi last spoke about the feature when he mentioned he was beta testing the new app during the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year, and an odd, unreleased TV commercial for the feature was published by a UK ad agency back in February.

gt6-course-maker-ad

Although some may have given up on the Course Maker, it’s apparently still coming, according to Kazunori Yamauchi’s recent comments in an interview with JeuxVideo. “For now, the only planned update is concerning the course maker,” Kazunori said when asked about additional customization features in GT6. “It’s still in progress, but it takes us more work than expected.”

When pressed for more information about what’s to come for the game, Kazunori added, “There will be new cars, yes, but not new tracks.” Of course, that would cross out any chance of Pikes Peak coming to GT6 – another question he shot down with a straightforward “no”. He did confirm the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak would be coming to the series eventually, though.

gran turismo fiaAlthough he was evasive on other questions about GT7 and the FIA Online Championship announced last year, he did add a comment on the sound: “We’ve been working on the next gen sound for 5 years, so they [the sounds] will change. I can’t tell you what will change at the moment, but they will change.”

Kaz needs to be flour bomb. On that interview he’s coming off like a douche bag. Get a reality check and get your ego in check.

  2. Jayson619

    CARS!!! CARS!!!! CARS!!!!!

    Nissan MY15 GT-R
Nissan S13 (Dai Yoshihara’s Formula Drift Discount Tire/Falken Tire)
    Lamborghini Sesto Elelento
    Lamborghini Veneno
    Koenigsegg Agera R
    Koenigsegg one:1

  3. JackC8

Been working on the sounds for 5 years? Up until about 2 years ago he was saying the sounds were perfect, so I can’t imagine what he might mean by that.

Great to hear that we’re not getting any new tracks though – one of the things I was extremely excited about with GT6 was the promise of “at least” one new track each month as DLC. In the same vein, you can only imagine my excitement over his vague statement that the track creator is still “planned”.

  4. UJ BNR R34

So guys I play Gran Turismo since I was a little child. Obe track that I loved the most was Red Rock Valley. I think it’s a big mistake that they did not put this in the game. So what about putting a supra interior and some aeto parts? Or generally some more interiors and aeros!!!!
If anyone agrees send me an answer! See yaaa!

  5. 0r3n

    A. No new tracks…. very dissapointing… i hope the course maker lives up to the hype…. seriously… i better be able to sync with an app … drive around Albert Park Melbourne Australia and create the track . Heck.. I’ll volunteer to drive around a scanner in the middle of the night and laser scan the track.

    B. Does anyone know if there is any changes coming to arcade mode…. it’s seriously out of date… needs to utilise more of the new released tracks and is in desperate need of an endurance category?

    C. I really love GT and the Vision project. i though I would wait till GT7 till upgrading to a PS4 But with only the prospect of VGTS and course maker (at some undetermined future date) i don’t think that’s going to happen…. now that GT Academy is over all there is to look forward to is the weekly willow/Tsukuba timetrials/races. ITS a shame PD didn’t use E3 to make some announcement to get the hype train going… missed opportunity that may prove costly.

  6. dethringr

Is Kaz on trial for murder here? I’ve seen terrorist who gave more information in an interrogation

  7. HarVee

And suddenly the dream of driving on an visually-updated Seattle is crushed by the very man that created it. Sounds like the story of GT as a whole though, eh?

  8. DSUjoeDirte9

Hopefully the course maker comes soon. :)

While there are no new tracks hopefully they bring back some classics in gt7. I would like to see, El capitan, Hong kong, Seattle, ssr11, and more good classics I’m likely missing.

  9. iGetMadAngle

Sorry i never played gt6 but if i make course can i make a public lobby for everyone to join?? i would think everyone would have to download my track, interested in seeing how they do this

    1. eran0004

In GT5 you could host a lobby with your own tracks, other players did not have to download them.

Might be different this time though, we’ll see.

  10. RandomCarGuy17

Awww, no more new courses?! :(
I wanted Seattle Circuit or SSR11.

That so called course maker better be very customizable!

    1. SVPSkins

Agree wish they would add Seattle, El Capitan and also Special Stage Route 11. For a game that’s meant to be celebrating 15 years of GT, they sure did miss out a hell of a lot of iconic tracks from past games.

    2. essopsycho

as long as the course creator works properly we can build all these circuits ourselves! not ideal I know but it will allow us to include courses that PD wouldn’t!! personally im looking forward to building knockhill, east fortune and crail. all great circuits in Scotland that I have been lucky enough to thrash for real!!!

  11. dylanlikes88

A little disappointing that we won’t be getting any new tracks. Those were the kind of updates that I was always looking for too. Far more than the Course Creator. Oh well…

    1. Rallywagon

There have been a few tracks. Let those of us who have been waiting since launch for the CM to hit get what we’ve been waiting for. If it is half of what was hyped, you will have plenty of new tracks.right now have then same scenery, but do not doubt people will be making plenty of real world tracks.

    2. Stoop Solo

You’ll be getting plenty of new tracks once the course creator arrives. :P Whether or not they’ll be any good is another matter of course. I will do my part.

    3. Johnnypenso

Without a sharing feature which the game does not currently have, you’ll be making tracks alone and no one will be able to race on them but you. You might be able to share them online as you did in GT5 but watch the open lobbies clear out once you bring out a course maker track…lol.

  12. silicon1138

I’m wondering if the inclusion of these two Peugeot Pike’s Peak cars hints that the course maker is coming sooner rather than later. If the course maker might allow steep inclines, then some extra Pike’s Peek type cars will be needed.

  13. ZoidFile

A “no” from Kazunori is actually quite refreshing he should use the word more often. “No” stops useless speculations instantly.

  14. Monatsende

At least PD will change the name of their soundfiles. Nothing more was confirmed.

Course Maker? Maybe PD is waiting to put it on the new GT6 – Academy Edition. Not that I say something like this is coming out. Just guessing.

  15. Andefir

Still waiting for that course maker but at least we know it’s coming some day and really happy to see the 208 Pikes Peak being added to GT6. That interview however didn’t give me much since I don’t know much French or any Japanese…

  16. Cobra2245

Jeez, I completely forgot about the course maker up until now. It’s good that it’s finally coming to the game.

  17. spdzlla

Guys, we need 2014 Audi R18 e-tron quattro!!! I don’t know why we don’t have it yet? We have Toyota and Nissan hybrid prototypes but not Audi!?!?

  18. liv4hardstyle

I’ve never had such an astounding love/hate relationship with any other game as gt6. I think it’s better not to look at articles these days but I go on break at work and find my fingers automatically take me to gt planet. Ignorance is bliss with PD as I have a better game in my head than the real world.

PD makes my head hurt, What springs to mind is the Simpsons episode of camp Krusty where Bart tells himself that
“Krusty is coming” rocking back and forth in a ball on the ground. Don’t know if kaz is ever coming.. Great game though ;)

  19. another_jakhole

Ah man this is annoying. Oh well. The pikes peak red bull car is really telling. No new tracks? hell yeah. save them for GT7.

And screw it, I’ll say it. What a bunch of whiners!!!!!

Go play pCARS (I have it too). Go play AC (next year). Whine whine whine. GT isn’t for you anymore. So long. Adios. Don’t let the screen door hit you in the face when you turn back to whine s’more!

    1. Johnnypenso

Because PCars isn’t meh, it’s full of bugs for some users on console, completely different issue. The devs are working furiously, night and day, fixing the issues and with any luck they’ll have most of it ironed out in short order. The game itself is exactly as advertised (+ the bugs of course), a racing sim, nothing more, nothing less. Doesn’t appeal to everyone and never will, but apparently appealed to 1 million gamers in one month, unprecedented success for a pure racing sim.

Having said that, us “whiners” are still GT fans, but we refuse to just go quietly into the night, while the franchise that got most of us into sim racing in the first place, goes into the giant blackhole of mediocrity. The game was once the industry leader in many important aspects of gaming, but at this point can really only claim superiority in anything that’s meaningful to the majority of gamers in one category – car count. We want the series to return to it’s former glory and are not shy about exposing it’s many weaknesses, while many of you “fans” seem quite content to continue giving faint praise to Kaz and the crew for what is essentially a mediocre game for the past 2 versions by relying on past glory and future potential as your handrails. Sorry you can’t deal with that.

    2. liv4hardstyle

Well said johnny, it’s only when a racing sim like project cars comes out (exclusive console player) that makes me realise what GT is lacking. I refer souly to actual racing. Still love gt6 for hot laps but racing, no thanks. Oh and the sounds in PCars bring quite a bit of immersion to the table. Loving it

    1. Lambob

Kaz, listen! We the fans develop the tracks! why is PD spending now 400 days on developing them!

entire PD team standing still, looseleafs drop from hands, T500RSes wailing handsfree…

  20. Coquico

First of all, i want to say that i am a big fan of GT. But… nothing last forever. Kaz is not seeing the wind of changes. Project cars is doing everything we have asking for some time. The amazing assetto corsa is coming… and kaz doesnt seem to see it. Course maker? should be ready at last one year ago. B spec? Useless, it was better the gt5 one. Gt3 FIA championship? when? People want to play next (current) gen racing games, and isnt going to wait forever. I belive that some people havent swicht right because the logitech wheel (like me). Kaz, PDI have to really seed up, or Gt will be a thing from the past

    1. Tenacious D

P CARS is doing everything we asked for?? You ask for a PC sim as if they don’t exist.

Assetto Corsa? A PC sim with road cars that… all you can do is tinker with them as they are? Is that what you want GT7 to be?

No, this isn’t what I’m asking for, and I’m betting most GT fans aren’t either.

    2. HarVee

“Project cars is doing everything we have asking for some time”

Wrong. Everything you have asked for perhaps but not we. For me, Pcars doesn’t offer anything that GT doesn’t. In fact GT has actually offered me more of what I want. A game with a flexible core structure with a plethora of tracks and cars with moderately-accurate driving physics. At its basis, that is what is most important to me in a car game. Pcars doesn’t offer me the ability to drive a stock Volkswagen Beetle on the Nurburgring at night during the rain, now does it?

    3. Johnnypenso

PCars doesn’t offer anything that GT doesn’t? Have you tried to tune a car in both games? Drive a car in both games with a wheel? Race a car in both games? It’s night and day in just about every aspect of driving, tuning and racing between both games.

  21. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

If in 1 day it was possible to record 10 cars – GT has over 1000 cars – then in 100 days it should be possible to record all of the cars sounds ( unless we ignore the licensing for the cars to be in the game ) or let’s say 5 cars a day – then it should be done 200 days ( over 6 months )
if 1 car a day then it should be done in 1000 days ( in 3 years ) let’s count the other new 200 cars – then we add over 6 months = 3.5 years.
The thing is about the needed time to complete the process of each engine sound.
Does 1 car takes 2 days to process ?
    if 2 days then we time 1000 by 2 = 2000 days = 6 years.

    1. Pseudopod

If you are able to do 10 in one day. What if you need a week just to track down where one of the cars can be found? What if you need another week of mail correspondance with the person who owns it before you can even start recording it?

    2. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

We need to add a certain percentage on those kinds of cars which can be difficult to be found.
like the old timers ( old cars from maybe less than 1980s since it can be difficult to find the cars of about 1970s more than 1980s which can still be found in the streets – as a proximity guess ) which could be about 30% ( if not over that ) of the cars in the game.
so if 30% of 1200 cars, then let’s say about 260 of old cars.
260 cars & for each is 14 days for the expected response for the owner of each car.
      260 X 14 = 3640 days = 10 years & 40 days.
but ( What if you need another week of mail correspondance with the person who owns it ) if this is a guess then since we’re done with the added week for the waiting for that person then let’s make an assumption if just 1 week is needed to bring 1 of the 260 old cars.
      then 260 X 7 = 1820 days = 5.05 years is needed for the 260 old cars.

    3. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

      Oh i’ve remembered something :
Kaz said ( We’ve been working on the next gen sound for 5 years, so they [the sounds] will change. I can’t tell you what will change at the moment, but they will change. )
if this is true – then the work had started since the middle of 2010.
We’re now at the half of June, so since it was mentioned after the release of GT6 in December of 2013 it was mentioned that GT7 would take 1 or 2 years to be if not just finished then released, then if in 2 years ( since we’ve already passed 1 year ) then it should be released at the next December.
So my first calculations is not that far of the mark :)

    4. ynot

Your forgetting one important thing. Getting your hands on all the cars would be quite the challenge. Some are very expensive and not so easy to buy or borrow for a few days. I say just make them digital. They would sound good and we can’t tell the difference anyway. Most of us will never hear some of the real cars anyway and if we do it would just be in passing.

    5. ZEROTHEKNIGHT

*Getting your hands on all the cars would be quite the challenge. Some are very expensive and not so easy to buy or borrow for a few days*
That’s exactly what Pseudopod mentioned which made me prepare an assumed-new-calculations to see the result.
*I say just make them digital. They would sound good and we can’t tell the difference anyway.*
i think sadly that’s what’s almost exactly happening ( if i’m not mistaken ) right now in most cars in GT6 – which is why we want a realistic engines sounds to give you the best possible engines sounds for a very good enjoyment.
*Most of us will never hear some of the real cars anyway and if we do it would just be in passing.*
Which is exactly what we want *Cough* Forza 4 *Cough*.

  22. thegt500

Who cares ? Its a case of too little, too late if you ask me. I’ve moved onto pCARS so have about 80% of my online friends and with Assetto Corsa being announced for PS4 it’ll be hard for PD to convince me after the GT5~6 delays, online problems, broken promises, sounds etc etc.
OK, pCARS isn’t perfect, far from it, but SMS are actually working on it and more importantly, keeping us updated on progress which is more than Kaz/PD will ever do.
I’ll probably blow the dust off my PS3 to try it, but with all the other ongoing GT6 issues, it’ll probably only be a quick distraction for novelty value then I’ll go back to the PS4 !
Anyways, Assetto Corsa will be out on console before the course creator gets released or the new problems get ironed out at least !

    1. ynot

Will Project Cars make it to 6 games? Probably not. I’m sticking with GT till the end. Every other racing game I have tried does not compare. Time will tell though. I think it’s a good thing that all these other racing games are coming out. Gives PD a chance to see all the other players cards before they show theirs. Smart move.

    2. Rallywagon

To be fair. PD shouldn’t have made 6 games either. Well actually 9 if you could TT prologue and prelude. PC and iRacing both do actual iRacing better than GT. Not played AC for a comparison there. The only thing better in the GT series are the home screen menus. However. I only play for the online experience, and GT falls way short compared to either of those games. BTW, just cause GT has been around the block a few times, does not mean their games are instant gold. Just look at what happened to so man franchises. Sonic, SimCity, anything EA touches. GT6 was below the standard, which PC2, AC and have risen the bar for. GT tries to hide flaws in glitzy garbage. Cheap rhinestone glitz at that. GT7 is going to have to be on point and above, otherwise I see a huge influx of people joining those of us who are already walking away from GT.

    3. thegt500

ynot, you haven’t played pCARS I take it then ?
If you have, you’ll notice there is actual RACING going on with a proper challenge from adjustable AI ! GT6 doesn’t have the features of pCARS such as practice sessions, qualifying and then real, grid start racing, not the ‘catch the rabbit’ rolling starts from the back of the grid. GT6 gets most things wrong in this respect that’s why many have turned away from it for a more true to life experience where you don’t feel you have to grind away in a Pokémon ‘gotta get em all’ car collecting kinda way.
The racing is close, and more importantly, a challenge when you ramp up the AI. They will actually challenge you into a corner to try take the lead, not just cruise around and fall back once you’ve overtaken them. The feel of the cars is better in pCARS too. I’ve used a DFGT and more recently a Thrustmaster T300RS with GT5~6 and can categorically say, the handling physics in pCARS wipes the floor with it.
I possibly will get GT7 after it’s released, but in no way am I going to pre order like I did with GT6. No I’ll get it after there’s been some reviews on it so I don’t get stung again !

  23. Chikane

Ok guys which you think will release first GT7 or the Course Maker?/ Taking bets. Crazy i know but its PD so no not really

    1. RoadRageRacer

It will be the course maker for gt6 obviously. They can’t scrap stuff from the game that was already announced like GT4 online making it harder to use
