Ford Focus ST Challenge

15300568831_49e229fb9d_z.jpg

Eligible Cars:
2013 Ford Focus ST
2006 Ford Focus ST

The Ford Focus ST has received high marks from car guys around the world. Though we have missed out on all previous versions of the ST here in the United States, the current version now on sale here is superb. But which one is better?

Top Gear reviewed the 2013 Focus ST saying, "The Focus ST drives with real poise and grace, delivering the agility of a supermini hot hatch but with the extra composure of something that bit bigger. It’ll both wag its tail if you lift off mid-corner yet also ride with firm, controlled comfort too."

In a similar review of the 2006 Focus ST, Top Gear said, "The torque it chucks out is immense. Any gear, any revs, any prod on the throttle, you get a deep bellow and a very, very satisfying surge. Oooooh."

Love for these cars in the real world is one thing, but how did PD do with them in GT6? Did they capture the essence of these cars as described by reviewers around the world? Or did they slap on the typical PD ill handling FF template and push them out in the game never having driven one or having read a single review? Which one will be more popular in this challenge?

Track: London Reverse 1.19 miles
The rationale for this track selection was to find something tight and twisty. The Ford Focus ST is said to have go kart like handling, so lets test it out. If you would like to grind for cash while you tune for this event, try the National B licence, City Trial: Race 3. Or you could use the current seasonal at London. Neither of these events uses the reverse version of London, but initial tuning can be done in the normal direction and fine tuning on the reverse circuit.

Ford Mustang Challenge

I wanted limited car choices across the classes. The Focus Challenge puts two fantastic and affordable cars against each other, head-to-head. The Ford GT Challenge holds everyone to one choice. For this Mustang Challenge, I wanted to open up the field just a little bit. There are three choices. The difficult part about this challenge will be deciding which to choose. Do you choose the high HP rating of the Shelby and carry all of that extra weight? Or do you pick the handling capability of the Boss 302? Or do you try the 2007 Coupe, which is a bit of a wild card; pretty good across the board, but not really great at any one thing? It will be interesting to see the choices.

Eligible Cars:
2013 Mustang Shelby GT500
2013 Mustang Boss 302
2007 Mustang V8 GT Coupe

Track: Willow Springs Big Willow 2.46 miles
The rationale for this track selection was to take American Muscle to an American track that would allow for some medium speed and high speed sections with a only handful of tight, twisty bits. If you would like to grind for cash while you tune for this event, try the International B event Tour of America: Race 1

Ford GT Challenge

15304281365_963de1cd1d_z.jpg

Eligible Cars:
2005 Ford GT

Track: Daytona Road Course Night 3.56 miles
The rationale for this track selection was to take the GT40 to a place that is a big part of its history. I also considered LeMans, but the track length would have been asking a lot of the test drivers. If you would like to grind for cash while you tune for this event, try the International B event, Midnight Races: Race 1 or the International B Tuned Car Festival: Race 2.

Allowed Parts:
600 PP
Racing Hard Tires
All tuning parts not on the banned are list allowed

Banned Parts:
No Oil Changes
No Body Rigidity
No Engine Overhaul
No Flat Floors
No Nitrous Oxide

Scoring:

FITT Rules

General FITT rules: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threa...-tuners-and-test-drivers.291311/#post-9017285

Scoring:
Fastest lap calculations - A maximum of 10 points can be earned from lap times. The tune with the fastest average lap time across all testers will earn 10 points. All other tunes will earn their score based upon how close their average lap time is to the fastest tune. For example, if the fastest tune earned the average lap time of 1:21.688 and the 2nd fastest tune equates to 1:21.832, the 2nd place tune receives 9.982 points (1:21.688 converted to seconds is 81.688 divided by 1:21.832 converted to seconds is 81.832 *10 = 9.982). Another example, if the fastest tune earned the average lap time of 1:21.688 and the slowest tune equates to 1:27.271, the slowest tune receives 9.360 points (121.688 converted to seconds is 81.688 divided by 127.271 converted to seconds is 87.271 *10 = 9.360). This method of scoring rewards tunes for being very close to the front and will keep the lap time portion of the competition very close.

Driver's choice - Each tester will score each tune on the scale listed below. Driver's choice scores will then be averaged across all testers. The maximum number of DC points that can be earned is ten points. Please choose driver's choice on a scale of 0.0 to 10.0.

Driver's choice scale:
10.0 among the best tunes you have driven in GT6
7 to 9 a great tune that could be a little faster if...
4 to 6 a good tune that needs a few adjustments to become a contender
Under 4 a tune that needs work (please be specific with feedback with any tunes listed here)

I'm in for the Mustang and possibly the GT challenges for tuning, and I'll be a tentative tester for the Focus ST challenge. Looks like a good challenge setup. Good luck to everyone.

Any restrictions on how many challenges we can enter? Sign me up for Focus and GT for sure, and Mustangs if I'm allowed to.

I'm in for the st and the gt classes tuner, I'll debate on the pony car for tuning and I'll test all of them.
Looks like a great challenges set up sir I look forward to this.

I will also give the mustang challenge a go at tuning. They are always interesting cars to try and get right.

Updated: I will tentatively put myself down for the Ford GT but this depends on time constraints. I start my uni course on Tuesday and I know I have time to complete two cars. I have a few weeks before the GT deadline so I will try and do all three classes if that is allowed?

Looks like great fun, sign me up as a tuner/tester for the focus/mustang groups please 👍

I might be able to test the GT class as well but I can't say for certain at this point

I will not take part this time. It is very attractive with the GT `05 but i´ll spend all my playing/driving time on DE LA SIERRA in the next weeks or monthes.
This wonderfull track have to be learned perfectly just like the ring and it´s not an easy job. Some people are already very fast there and i don´t like to be out of those battles.
Perhaps next time. Good luck to tuners and testers.

I'll test for focus and tune for mustangs please. I don't feel right doing anything for the Ford gt because I despise racing tires :)
So tune it on SS tires and let the testers have at it on the RH tires , I am going to resume my old habit of turning a tire level down so that I get better response from the cars on the correct tire.

Not a bad idea but 650pp is a lot of hp for sport softs. I may change my mind. I just feel bad tuning and not being able to test because of the tires.
